I was wondering if anyone else has had an increase in salt craving since WLS or since losing weight? I never added salt before and now I really crave it. I find myself wanting nuts and seeds, almost daily. Ug, I need to break this new...um habit? I take potassium daily, been trying to research the minerals to see if it is a physical response or not. Just curious if anyone else as well. By the way, I have 23 lbs to get to goal, I have done the reset, cut carbs, increased exercise off and on, and tried to reduce calories but eating 800 a day is tough, as I get hungry but darn I want to reach goal! I have gone up and down 3-5 lbs for over 6 months. Anyone else? …

  10. I've watched my eating habits for a long time and I can honestly say that I'm not a snacker. I overeat during meals, yes, that's my very bad habit. I'll overeat a lot. I used to drink my calories in juice too but have since stopped buying juice before surgery. But in between meals? No. I don't snack. I don't like snack foods either. Just 3 meals a day. Was anyone else like this? How did it fare after surgery for you? Did you suddenly get the urge to graze or something afterward? Everyone says snacking is the devil and since I never did that in the first place, I'm worried I'll pick that habit up Sent from my DROID RAZR using VST

I still don't eat perfectly and I'm still obese, but I still try to teach my family about healthy eating. I would prob do better if they were all on board too. My mom has type two diabetes and numerous problems because of it. She'll say "I'm allowed to eat.....(amount of whatever food)", yet she never actually eats it. All she eats is cake and fried chicken. My sister goes out to eat constantly. Last night I calculate her calories just for dinner and it was over 1,000 calories... Then she went out for ice cream and today she brought home a bag of donuts. She's avg size, just a lil thick in the tummy. My dad will buy a bag of chips and she eats the whole thing, but I'm alw…

  18. Hi y'all. I'm pretty new here and I've tried to research to see if I can find my answers to questions in the forum before I ask something you've all discussed before. It's been great. I'm sure after reading many posts in this part of the forum that many, probably most, in this community have experience with searching for and learning how, or at least strongly desiring to eat healthy. It seems to be a logical theme involved in the search for weight loss to find what is the right way to nourish our bodies. Right? When did you decide to eat fruit again post op? For example, apples and bananas. I am almost 10 months post op and think it is time to start adding fruit as I have been maintaining for a few months now. I think fruit will help me fuel better for lifting and running. I used to really like fruit, but have "forgotten" my like for it as May 2012 was the last time I ate any fruit (1-2 months pre op). My diet includes fruits now as part of a green drink (71 different veggie and fruits). Let me know what you think.

I didn't want to chop up the veggies every day. I saw something on Pinterest (Such an addicting site) and tried it. It worked great!! I took canning jars and made salads for the week. Read it all the way to the bottom, I know it's lowbrow humor, but worth at least a smile! Portions after Weight Loss Surgery Practicing Portion Control in the early stages after surgery will help you avoid eating too much food which may cause some discomfort. Continuing to practice portion control will help avoidlarge portions sneaking back up on you. I've seen this question posed on here several times, but have never really seen a good answer to it. Today I had my 2-month follow-up with my NUT, and lo and behold, she shared a recent article from "The Bariatric Times" addressing that very question. I'll post the link, but the bottom line was for the first year post-op, keep carbs under 90 grams, and after 1 year under 130 grams. http://bariatrictimes.com/recommended-levels-of-carbohydrate-after-bariatric-surgery/ Enjoy!

Anyone make their own turkey or chicken burger? Whole turkeys and chickens can be had pretty reasonable. I've made deer burger a lot, and have my own grinder, but now thinking about thinking about just buying whole turkeys or possible whole fryers when they go on sale, and making my own. I know turkey burger is cheaper than beef, but I should be able to get 8-10lbs of meat off of a 15lb bird I would think. Seems like it would be cost effective. Talk to me about it if you've done it.

I know people have mixed feelings about Jerky. It's good Protein per oz, but it has loads of sodium. After searching high and low in every supermarket around, I think I've found the best in terms of sodium. It's Sprouts brand turkey jerky. It packs a modest 270 grams of sodium per oz. It even beats Whole Foods which is 380 (I think) and the next runner up Oberto which is over 400. Some of the worst brands come in at 660 or more. This is the best I've found from a commercially produced product.

My friends dad swears by them. He says they are really good for digestion and for regulating your blood sugar so its great for Type 2 Diabetes. He also says its great regardless of your issue: if you are plugged up it unclogs you. If you go too much it slows you down. I'm doing some more research on my own but I wanted to ask and see if any of you have tried it. Thank you!!!
