Found a new fave item at the grocery store this week...flatout bread (light original). Great for pizzas, wraps, etc. I wrote a blog post about it, including a brief discussion on comparing the nutritional info on the various options in the flatout bread line. Anyway, I can only eat 1/6 of one (with toppings) at the moment (9 weeks out) - nutritional info attached. I'm going to post separately about Taco pizza I made using them last night. More info on blog at http://gastricsleeve4me.blogspot.com/2012/07/fave-alert-flatout-bread.html

Ok, another one of my "on the fly" recipes. Ground chicken was used because I find ground turkey dry and bland, but you could sub turkey if its your thing. Full of flavor and simple. 1lb ground chicken 2Tbsp Franks Red Hot Sweet Chili sauce 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 tsp black pepper 1/2 tsp chili powder (or more if u like spicy) Mix ingredients, form patties. Grill or throw in a frying pan..I used a george forman and have used a frying pan, no extra oil needed. Makes 4 4oz burgers..3oz after cooking. Cal 198, Carb 5.4g, protein 22

I'm pretty sure that I've seen a thread where a few people gave out their Pinterest names... I tried searching...but I just can't find it. So I thought I'd start a thread dedicated to that purpose. http://pinterest.com/aeveach/food/ This isn't strictly healthy food. I might eventually split this into two boards, one healthy and one not. But for now, that's what I've got.

Heyy! I'm new to the site, so forgive me if I'm repeating a topic or something, I'm still trying to figure this all out. But could someone give me a typical average day of what they eat? I'm almost 4 weeks out of surgery, and I've only lost 20 pounds. And I think that's because I'm not eating the way I should be. I take my Vitamins and usually I start the morning with a protien shake. I get down as much of that as I can, but then I'm SO full for the rest of the day that I can't really eat anything else until about 2:00 ish. Then this is where I get confused. I never know the proper amount to eat (or what's the healthiest options) so I can still get in a dinner, bu…

For those of you fresh post-ops, I found this an easy way to get a large chunk of my Protein in. 1 pineapple 3 Oranges 1 cup greek yogurt 1 scoop Protein powder First peel and chunk the fruit so you can juice the pieces (no pulp!). Then add yogurt, protein, juice, and ice to texture to blender. Blend and enjoy! Depending on the protein brand, generally there are 23 g per scoop. There is also 23 g per cup of yogurt, so it amounts to 46 g (plus whatever is in the juice). Yay! Made my life a lot easier figuring this out!! Good Luck!

Ok, Im not sleeved yet. But love to cook and experiment. I found if you soak wonton wrappers for a few minutes they make a perfect sub for lasagna pasta. I made this a couple nights ago: 1lb ground chicken or turkey 8 wonton wraps 3/4 cup ff cheese (I used jalapeno jack) 1 10oz can enchalada sauce 1/4 cup chopped onion 1 chopped jalapeno (cored) 1/4 cup chopped cilantro 1 small avacado Plain greek yogurt Preheat oben to 375. Brown meat (drain if needed) add onions, jalapeno and cilantro and 1/2 of the enchalada sauce. Soak wontons in a bowl of water while this cooks for about 10 mins. Spray small baking dish w/ nonstick spray. (I used a small 6x6) Carefully…

Ok now I HATE Ranch dressing with a passion, but I saw this while looking for healthy receipes and decided to share it. Healthy Ranch Dressing 1 cup Dannon Oikos plain nonfat greek yogurt 1 packet hidden valley ranch (dressing, not dip) 1/2 cup 1% milk Whisk together in bowl and chill for 1 hour before serving. As you can see below this filled my canning jar. There is a lot of talk about HOW much milk to use, to get the right consistency and I found this dead on for 'regular' ranch or any other creamy dressing. Protein. That calculates to 8pts on the new points plus system. For an entire jar of dressing. I would hazard a guess that this would yield about 20-…

I saw a recipe on here from Emily Bites and decided to go and visit the site myself. I miss philly cheesesteak and french dip so much! But its just not the same without the bread. Adding that won ton makes these so great that its almost like having a real french dip, but its much easier on the sleeve! I just thought I would share with y'all that they were very very tasty and tolerable. They look cute too lol. http://www.emilybites.com/2012/01/french-dip-cupcakes.html

Was reading on msn.com this morning and clicked on an article on various things to do with Tuna. Most of them are just different variations of salads, but I liked the one that talked about making a "tuna burger" almost like making meatloaf in the sense of putting various vegetables mixed into the tuna and then forming a patty which you cook like a hamburger. Looked really yummy, gonna have to try this. http://www.delish.co...recipes#slide-7 Turn a can of tuna into a zesty tuna burger with this quick recipe. If you can't find good whole-wheat hamburger buns, whole-wheat English muffins are a great substitute. The burger mixture might seem a little soft going into the…

Another article on msn.com... Probably want to watch the amount of avocado since it is so yummy and will need to be added to your carb count for the day. Gonna have to add avocado's to my grocery list!! I LOVE avocados!!! There are other recipes listed here too using avocados that overall are pretty healthy but will want to look closely at the ingredients listed and modify where appropriate. http://www.delish.com/recipes/cooking-recipes/easy-avocado-recipes#slide-2 Scrambled eggs with Bacon and Avocado When choosing avocados, opt for heavy, undamaged avocados. One that yields slightly to pressure is best for slicing and dicing; if pressure leaves a small in…

Hey there - just a few weeks post-op and today was inspired by Emily Bites Buffalo chicken Cupcakes (but not ready for wonton wrappers) and Eggface's famous bites (but, alas, no buffalo chicken recipe). I was craving buffalo chicken, and mexican food, so decided to make my own in two "flavors"; buffalo chicken and chicken enchilada to use up a can of chicken I'd bought at Trade Joe's. They were sooooo yummy! Posted recipe and pics on my blog if anyone's interested.

Hi all! A friend and I experimented with making pizza dough out of oats/oatmeal that we ground. Came out quite yummy. I've been needing to add some carbs here and there for energy, and was pleased with these. 9g of carbs in the mini pizzas I made (photo below) but, frankly, I can only eat a half in one sitting. I was running late on my way to work and didn't have time to put together a decent lunch for myself. So I found myself wandering around my local Hen House trying to decide what to eat. Here's what I ended up with... Sliced provolone cheese, sliced deli ham, and some Wholly Guacamole. High Protein, low carb, and some healthy fats thrown in for good measure! Anyone else have an odd last minute meal they came up with?

The biggest hurdle I've found in my new cooking regime is having so much food. One can of retried beans is like 8 meals. So I figured I would use ice trays to freeze foods like chili, soup, veggies, quiche, beans, etc. It works great because I can thaw out one or two "cubes" depending on how much I am going to eat. Plus it's cheaper and easier to store than a ton of bowls that hold too much food.

ok everybody...here's what I tried today.....AWESOME! 3 slices of sandwich size pepperoni (sliced thin by the deli) I nuked these for 30 seconds in the microwave (on a bed of paper towels) (Most of the grease goes into the paper towels.) topped each one with a few drops of Contadina pizza sauce (squeeze bottle) smeared around a bit topped that with a couple Tablespoons low fat mozzerella (divided between all three) Put back into the microwave for another 15-20 seconds until cheese is melted. The pepperoni gets so crispy...loads of flavor...NO SOGGY CRUST! You could slice up a black olive or chop up a mushroom to add to this. About 2 carbs total for all th…

Hi Everyone, I'm 5 months post-op and have been doing great until very recently. Between taking classes and working full-time I have found myself grabbing "quick" meals and could use some help. I've decided to take a day in the week to prepare some low-carb high-Protein freezer meals. I'm going to start off with Breakfast and make some mini eggwhite and veggie frittatas with a recipie I found online. But I am having a difficult time finding other small portioned recipies that fit the low-carb high-protein bill. Any ideas?

I had something similar to this while travelling. It wasn't the greatest choice on the menu, but I knew I'd eat only a small amount, and my husband enjoyed it, too. I have started eating cheeseburger salads and they are a revelation! When I really need that fix of juicy mooing cow goodness and miss the flavor profile of a good cheeseburger, I get this from a whimsical burger place in town but it is totally makeable at home. Any greens you like, a patty's worth of any kind of protein - the restaurant offers everything from elk to veggie burger - pickles, onions, mayo-mustard dressing, and tomatoes. It is delicious and satisfies the craving for that special burger combo of juicy hot meat meets cold crunchy vegetables, yay!

So I found this recipe today and made it. I didnt use the bacon and instead of Water I used really strong decaf tea. I also could not find low carb ketchup so I used reduced sugar from Heinz. I let it simmer on my stove for an hour or two till it reduced to 2 cups of finished product. each 2T portion has 16 Calories, 3 carbs, 1g Protein and 2g sugar. I like a dark molasses sweet barbeque sauce so I added some extra splenda. compared to Kraft BBQ sauce which has 15g carbs and 13g of sugar per serving. I think this is a new winner !! enjoy !! Ingredients: 2 strips of thick bacon, chopped fine (or see note) 1 small onion, minced 1 clove garlic, minced or …

I see a lot of recipes out there that tell you how much Protein powder to put in the shake which is great if you use powder. The only protein I've found that I like is a ready to drink protein. Is there a way to know how much protein liquid in my shakes is in terms of scoops? In other words, if a recipe calls for.one scoop of chocolate powder, how much of my liquid chocolate protein is that? I hope this makes sense. Thanks! ~Amy

Confession: I have been super bad recently, although my weight loss is going fine, I am eating TOO MANY CARBS. I didn't want to do any kind of liquid cleanse, but I needed to get back to basics, so I am trying to be super low-carb for the next few weeks. Voila, eggs. Because eggs are delicious. (I like egg whites too, but in the amount I can fit into my stomach, the plain egg is fine.) I love to make frittata, which is pretty much like an omlette you can't screw up (and also I can't spell omlette). Usually I just do whatever's in the house, but I saw a recipe and had to try it. I adapted it by adding chicken sausage for an extra Protein boost, cutting the olive oil,…
