Hello. I'm scheduled for RNY surgery on 7/30/18. I thought I wanted DS, and my surgeon does perform DS surgery, but he's worried about insurance coverage so won't do a DS unless I pay for the surgery upfront (and hope to get refunded later). I'm confused as to whether I should seek another practice to perform DS, or just go ahead with the RNY. I'm sure I can make RNY work for me, I'm about 40 BMI, and can lose weight pretty easily when I put my mind to it. It's just keeping it off that's the problem. -Shane

Hi everyone! I am only 11 days post op but I’m already so discouraged. I logically know I am still swollen and due to a longer hospital stay with continuous IV fluids running, I have more water weight to lose. I also had adhesions they had to take down which gave me pretty significant pain and swelling also. I lost 17 pounds during the 14 day liver shrinking fluid diet. After surgery I was discharged home at a weight of 15 pounds higher than when I went in. I have finally lost the weight and after 11 days I am where I was upon arrival to the hospital. However, I should be down from there as well due to remaining on a strict liquid diet. I am hungry and depressed …

I just had my bypass surgery on Monday this week. I’ve been doing good but have been having pain at my incision sites. I have six of them. One hurts really bad and the doctor said it’s where he had to scrape my band out. I also had my gallbladder removed. I ate broth in the hospital and was fine. I just tried to drink some more and it was hotter than the hospital. I had the worst heartburn feeling. It really hurt. I’ve not had heartburn before. Has anyone experienced this?

Hi Everyone, I am going outside US for a mini gastric bypass (MGB) in August. After reading many posts, and watching YouTube videos related to gastric bypass and MGB, I am really concerned about the following: - Bile Reflux: It seems like a large percentage of MGBs get Bile Reflux and have to have convert to RNY. Have you seen this and what issues have you dealt with? - Foul-Smelling Stool: Is this the case for all gastric bypass and MGB? Some mentioned they can't even use public restrooms due to strong smell. What has been your experience and does this get better after a while? - Malnutrition: Has this happened to you and is taking Vitamins (multi, D3…

My gastric bypass is a little over 3 weeks away and I’m starting to get freaked out a little. I keep thinking about the foods I love that I’ll never get to enjoy again. I’m worried that food will get stuck and I’ll have to throw up or go to the hospital. I’m scared I’ll never enjoy a meal again. Are these fears logical or things I should be worrying about? Thanks all. Megan

So it been some time since I posted. I was sleeved in 2012. I was blessed with being the 5% with complications such as GERD and now I have a hiatal hernia. I was told the a RNY is no only option. I desperately tried to find an alternate solution to no avail. I would like to know a few things. 1) for those who have fed bc/bs., how long did it take to get a revision to RYN approval. 2) have you had any complications since the revision. 3) any regrets? I just idea of losing the with you have gained because of all the crackers they manage the GERD is appealing but I am scared out of my mind. A little depressed. Feeling like a failure.

Surgery went well yesterday. Ended up with horrible gas pain and extra pain due to my incisions. I had a hernia repair years ago and one of my incisions had to go through some scar tissue. So that may the pain almost unbearable. I felt like I was in labor and could barely get up to walk they way I needed to. It's almost 6am and i'm still in some pain and a little nauseous now. Despite the pain, i'm still happy that I made the decision to have it done. HW: 297 PSW: 248 SW: 245 GW: 145

Hey all, I am going on my 4th month of dieting for my per-surgery. I have finished all the blood work, EKG, Upper Endoscopy, X-Ray... then I had the sleep study a few days ago... today I was contacted that I do indeed have sleep apnea. I have to now have the second step to get the Cpap machine. I was told by my doctor I need to wear the machine for at least 3 weeks prior to surgery. I am looking at an October surgery date. I so far have went from 352 lbs to 336 lbs. I need to lose 32lbs. Any sleep apnea friends? October surgery buddies?

So now that I'm officially back on the market, I am meeting new people and going on dates etc.... that's all great. Now my ex and I have split I would like to think that I will meet someone that I wanna get up close and personal with. He had a vasectomy so the baby thing wasn't something we had to worry about... My question is, after RNY, is the absorption thing a problem when it comes to the contraceptive pill? I have a 3 and 5 year old and I really don't want any lil surprises! Implants and the jag don't work for me. The coil sorta freaks me out so I think the pill is my preferred option, if it actually is an option.

So I had VSG in November of 2014. On June 1st, I'm having it revised to RNY. Prior to surgery I will start my 2 week liquid diet. My question is....I don't have to do a bowel prep or anything. So if they are working on my intestines, what happens if I'm not cleared out? Since having VSG, I have had issues with constipation and I am a little worried about that. Sorry for the TMI. I appreciate any help!

Hi everyone , I'm kinda new here. I'm going for 3rd wls in September. None thru my fault, or surgery complications. Just because it's the way things went... I had a very fantastic journey with my band. I started at 136kg and reached well below my goal, sitting happily at 58 kg for roughly 5 yrs. in 2011 I became pregnant (second with band) and suffered ridiculous pregnancy sickness vomitting multiple times a day so my band was loosened and then slipped.. I regained to reach 109 kg in less than a year because of living on slider foods. My band was removed and I had vsg 3 mths later. I wish I had a new band put in :( I have lived with GERD every day since surgery. I ha…

Hey April Bypass-ers! Just wanted to know how everyone is doing? How much have you lost? Have you had a stall yet? How's your eating? I had my bypass on 4/23. I'm down 34lbs since surgery & 64lbs since my highest weight. I got a stall for about a week when transitioning to regular foods but I didn't panic and started losing again. My eating has been great! I just gotta watch the carbs Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Its been a journey since March 9th until now my weight loss has been slow and steady now I feel stronger, lighter, able to concentrate more on short goals. My workouts change every day so that helps me to stay focus. My current weight is 160 lbs from 245 lbs, now my size is a 10 from a 20. One thing that is my encouragement is that I bought a Fitbit to keep going and to motivate me every day you should see me talking it like it's a real person, lol. Hey everyone...this is my first post! I'm in my 4 month pre-op program for Insurance, and suegery will be sometime in the late fall! Would love to know your favorite types of 'clear' protein drinks? Docs say I should start experimenting and finding one I like now so it's easy to have ready post-op. I tried the Isopure Lemon Tea and Grape flavors today, and they were bitter and had to get watered down. Thanks in advance!

Help! During the puréed and soft phase and beyond. I would like to know: POWDERS/SHAKES-What have been your best and worst protein powders? What were your favorite shakes? What was the best vanilla powder to cook with? APPLIANCES/UTENSIL- What appliances did you use? What tools did you buy (example smaller whisks/veggie bullet chopper) Did you buy a small slow cooker? I have a ninja and a food processor and a normal sized crook pot and a food scale.

I had gastric bypass over a month ago and my surgery went great. No pain, no gas, no nausea no nothing but I have a little problem.. I get hungry. I know some people don’t get hungry, others feel a little hunger but I get hungry HUNGRY! I feel almost the same hunger pangs that I used to get before I had my surgery yet that doesn’t bother me too much because when I do eat I can only have a few bites before restriction takes over regardless of how hungry I feel. With that being said, my issue is how long it takes my stomach to send me the message that I’m full. So let me explain.. I get hungry, I eat, I feel the restriction, I stop. I’m still hungry but I can’t eat anymore.…

So, my surgery is scheduled for July 11th! Scared to death, but ready for the life change! I have been overweight almost my whole life and it has been a journey to get to where I am at now! It has taken almost 2 years to get here! Anyone else July bypass? If you are, how long of a liquid diet do you have to do pre-op? Mine is 2 weeks!! If you have already had your surgery and gone through the liquid diet, any advise to get through it!

Anyone else go through major ups and downs the weeks leading up to surgery? One minute I’m fine and confident in this decision, and the next I’m reconsidering going through with it. I have a new therapist but she’s no help... responds with, “You’re going to be totally fine!” Or, “Well you can always cancel if you want to!” And my favorite, “You’re really not that big, so maybe you don’t need the surgery.” MY BMI IS 42 LADY. I might have a pretty face but that don’t win the race, mmkay! A few weeks ago, I was scared that I would fail and not be able to control my eating after surgery. But now I’m seeing that I am fully capable of following the pre-op diet without cheat…

My RNY was 10/30/17. I have had extreme nausea, vomiting and wound up on TPN. My gastrin levels were 400 (normal is<100), have ulcers(they are healing). The biggest problem though the emotional ups and downs! I have very little patience. Pre op I was very patient and tended to think before I opened my mouth. Now I am easily insulted, quicker to anger and I speak re-actively. I feel like I am pre-menstrual all the time. It has been a rough post op course but things are sloooooowly getting better. Hope to be off Tpn soon. Anyone else have these issues? I feel caught between some people being angry with me and others going " It's ok". I need to fix this. My behavior is…

Hi all! This is my first post as I am in the very beginning stages of my weight loss journey! I am almost positive that I will be approved for surgery, as my BMI is 41 and I know that my insurance covers it. I am hoping to have gastric bypass done, however I am concerned about the amount of time that I’ll have to take off of work. I currently work in a hospital as an emergency room technician. I know that most people are out of work for a couple weeks at most, however my job consists of a lot of heavy lifting! I am always transferring patients, pushing stretchers and wheelchairs, lifting people, etc. I am in a financially comfortable place at the moment, however I’m conce…

I had my lap band out on April 18th and they were supposed to do the bypass, but they weren't able to due to scar tissue. I saw my surgeon today and all should be a go for June! Yay!!!! I am seriously struggling with the pre-op diet.....I have no problem doing a liquid only diet, except that my doctor requires a certain "kit" and I am kind of a picky eater.....(go figure) so I didn't get the chance to see what flavors/ brands I would like best. But, the shakes are the worst!! Chalky, lumpy (from powder mix) and I have to add milk instead of water, and I do not like milk (never been a milk drinker) It's a struggle for me to get even 2 down out of 5 I am supposed to have every day. I am not hungry, I can easily skip it with no problem......good news, surgery is next week. Bad news, I have 2 teenage sons who are always eating! LOL Thanks for li…

Not sure if it's just me (I'm pretty sure it's not) but pooping at work, post bypass is a crazy embarrassing event! I've had folks walk, in and then turn right around and leave thanks to the wonderful new smells I'm producing! So embarrassing! And it lingers think and heavy, like some cross between tear gas and smog, some unseen nasal assault team going full speed ahead attempting to cause gagging. I've recently decided to bite the bullet and buy some Poop-Pourri, just a little 4oz bottle to pocket and take with me to the can. I don't want to advertise or promote, but for what it's worth, it helped out greatly. A few times it didn't work as described, but it sure…

I'm scheduled for RNY next Wednesday. I'm a diabetic, edge of obese but taking this drastic step in a bid to minimise or stop my diabetes. The one thing giving me completely irrational fear is the stories of uncontrollable bowel movements. Now don't get me wrong, I expect some wariness around farting and some loose stools for a few months or a year but I'm hoping normalcy is on the horizon for most. It just seems like a lot of people are reporting lifelong uncontrollable diarrhoea, destroying marriages and requiring diapers. Conscious of how people suffering specific issues frequent forums, and can overrepresent incidence - can some veterans let us all know how they're…

Looking for those who have slipped, fallen or complications. I am 10 years out and have all of a sudden gained 40 lbs!!! Was living the good skinny life and about a year after surgery started smoking again. Well about 2 years ago my doc said quit or be on oxygen by the time you are 60. So I quit and almost over night I gained 40 lbs. Now I have no motivation and my drive is in the toilet. I am recovering from hernia surgery but was like this before. Have had checkup and blood work everything is fine. So I’m just looking for answers. Thanks

Hello everyone, I have a question...I know after having the sleeve surgery I won’t be able to drink any sparkling bubbly water. I love to cook, try new recipes and grill especially on Sundays and I enjoy having my wine or cocktail ( it’s just so relaxing, fun and chill) lol...so anyway I have been preparing myself for change, surgery and working on losing weight with my nutritionist so I just decided on my own to cut out the alcohol and switched to sparkling water with fruit in it for now and I put it in a wine glass so I feel like I’m still enjoying my cocktail, are there other drink options out there besides the protein shakes, Gatorade etc that I can still sip on i…

Is there anyone who has had a laparoscopic nissen (surgery for severe acid reflux)? I just wondered how the nissen affected the RNY. My surgeon said he would have to take down the portion of my stomach where the nissen was. He also said my surgery time would be about an hour longer than the typical RYN surgery.

Hello! My surgery was just scheduled and it will be August 28. I am curious how you handled notifying your work. When & how did you let your boss/work know you will be out for surgery? What did you say? How soon did you tell them? I know some folks are open to sharing about the surgery; I applaud you!!! Unfortunately, I am a pretty private/introverted person and am not comfortable with sharing too much. Thank you! <3 and added kitten picture just because it makes me happy!

Hello everyone ☺️ I have been on the site for a while now , I recently finished my kaiser required 6 month classes, labs , fitness test and I received my formal authorization, I am now waiting for meeting with surgeon and surgery date. When I see my surgeon I will need to have made a decision regarding specific surgery i. e bypass or sleeve. I decided to come to this specific bypass site to get some feedback from you guys, my questions are, was the recovery difficult? How much weight did you drop the first few months?, any dumping ? Regrets? Anyone wishing they did the sleeve instead? Etc. whatever you can offer as info on your experience with the surgery . Th…

Hi, my name is Leilani and I had RnY bypass on 4-4-18. I am wondering if an increase in appetite is normal at almost 3 months out? I feel like I can eat more and it honestly scares me! And when I look at the scale I feel like everyone else who has had this surgery has lost way more than I have. Is this normal? I know I shouldn't compare myself to others but sometimes it's hard! And I know I can't expect instant results but I just feel like my weight loss is sluggish even though I'm working out every day and eating and drinking properly.
