Anyone willing to post photos of their surgery scars especially those that are at least 6 months + out? I'm not looking forward to the scars because I already had a tummy tuck. I kind of have done most things in reverse order. I should have had surgery first. Oh well! I'm excited for this journey! Surgery is on MONDAY! Yikes!

I am 3 weeks post op. Whatever I eat, which is soup, baby cereal, pudding, etc. feels blocked at about 2 or 3 teaspoons. Then I get the foamies, then I throw up. I can’t get any liquid to stay down bcus it’s feels blocked. It comes back up. Protein drinks are a catalyst for throwing up. I just can’t. So I feel like I’m dehydrated and starving. It’s a challenge to take my antacid pill. Sometimes it feels like it slides down. Other times it feels like it’s stuck sideways and then the day is done. I get the foamies and whatever I try to eat or drink comes back up. Then I think maybe the opening is too small. The scale isn’t moving much either. I am leaving on a …

Hey all. 3 weeks out post bypass. I had the sleeve 3 years ago and developed GERD. Dr suggested converting to bypass. Would immediately go away. Woohoo. NOT !!! I can’t keep anything down except liquids and baby food. Not even cottage cheese. I can’t even keep my Protonix in. It feels like if I have anything with a little substance it gets stuck. After that there is no drinking or anything. Then I get the foamies and slime, throw up everything and then I’m ok. It’s a ritual now. I went to the doctors and he said the opening is about the size of a dime and that’s how it’s supposed to be. For real? If I can’t fit a pill down my throat how my ever going to get fo…

I keep noticing what seems to be a disproportionate number of forum participants from Missouri. Are you from the St. Louis area, the Kansas City area, or somewhere in between? "Kansas City" also includes cities like Overland Park, Olathe, or Shawnee Mission. Natives automatically know when we're talking about the Missouri or Kansas side. Missouri ranks 27 on this list: https://wallethub.com/edu/fattest-states/16585/ (I think it would be cool if BariatricPal created a graph or something to show where many of us are from, including our international buddies from Australia, the UK, etc.)

Oh my word!! I had the revision from sleeve to RNY on 6/6. I had some peanut butter chocolate milkshake today. Just a 1/4 of a small sonic cup. I have been so ill!! Do not eat sugar! I don’t know if I ever will again after today. Headache and nausea is horrible. Also, how long were you off work after RNY. My revision was because of a bad stricture/stenosis. I lost 90lbs with the sleeve. I am 180 now but my doctor said I did not have a choice but to get a revision because my stomach was so bad. RNY is not what I wanted but the GERD and nausea were awful. Will I lose much more? Sitting here feeling like I’m going to barf.

How's everyone doing? I am honking along but not losing weight as fast as I liked so I went back to tracking and discovering some nasty little carbs that have mysteriously come back. Hoping to get back on track. I'd like to drop 10 more pounds before I start driving a truck again. At least I am not gaining which is important!

help!!!! I just went to see my surgeon to decide on my surgery. Oh man he really confused me. I had previously decided on rny. Then we start talking and he goes into detail about the 2 surgeries. I was always of the belief that rny is the king of the surgeries. He said, yes the original and the one most known...but.... Then he told me the results so far with the mini (still considered relatively new in comparison) are better then the rny. Obviously, they cannot tell long term as it is not old enough. It's less complicated then the RNY but can 'possibly' result in diarrhea and or bile reflux. He said only some people not all get the complications. So now - w…

I am having a hard time here, I had my RNY in July of 2013. I had very good results but due to my adding some carbs back into my diet and (not saying iit is his fault) but I have a bad obsession with lightly salted Barbque Chips. I have never been a chip eater before but Lordy Lord I am making for it. Bad me!! So now my remission of diabetes is back My Dr put me back on Metformin 500mg 2 times a day. I can gladly say theyt have worked. My Blood Sugar went from 199 to 104 today. I really don't eat many carbs but in the last 3 months I have been eating some carbs, I don't eat many like 1 slice of a whole grain bread. Cut in half with 1 slice of chopped ham and…

From what I have read, a lot of people get the sleeve! I need to lose over 150 pounds. I also have pcos. I know that the vsg might take a shorter amount of time on the table and it may extend over time. Also I heard it can cause acid reflux to become worse. The issue with the bypass, the dumping syndrome. What are your thoughts? What made you decide to do the surgery you picked? Thank you.

So tomorrow marks 1 week post op for my rny. My surgeon had me on clear liquids for the first 5 days. It's very hard for me to get more than 4oz of protein the past few days. I have no hunger and always feel super full just trying to sip protein and water. I'm extremely over the sweet tastes and broths. I have to be on this liquid diet for the next 3 weeks before I'm allowed to move on to the pureed stage. I'm started to feel like I made a huge mistake between the diet and pain. I try to walk and move as much as possible but feel like my heart is going to burst out of my chest at times. I've been monitoring my pulse when slightly active it reaches up to 120 and when sitt…

Hi guys, first post.. but I need help. I had my bypass on Monday 11th, today is Wednesday 13th. I'm really struggling and right now feeling much regret. I'm struggling to get anything down, I'm only on clear liquid at the moment. I'm so thirsty and miss just quenching that. My body is showing signs of hunger (like my throat and stomach feel ravenous) but my brain doesn't and I couldn't get it down even if I tried. I'm trying to be positive but right now I'm only happy when I'm sleeping.

This is probably a dumb question but here goes. So WLS makes you feel uncomfortably full so you don’t overeat. My fear is, I overeat like crazy now, being full or not has nothing to do with it. I am having surgery next week. What if it doesn’t work for me because I still eat now when I feel terribly full?

Hello everyone, this is my first time here or any kind of support group for this major step in my life. My surgery is in 8 days! I have found a lot of resistance and negative comments when I talk about it at work or even family. They tell me "just stop eating junk and exercise." Just don't eat too much, don't take the easy way out." A lot of co-workers and friends and even my husband tell me not to do it...But I have tried everything already, this is my last option...just to become healthy and be able to have a normal life again. Please give me some hints that I can use to get me through this last week and the strict diet I have to follow. I am having a hard time in…

Hi all, I am 5 weeks out from surgery. My brother who is also my roommate has told me twice “if you just didn’t eat junk food or fast food you wouldn’t need that surgery.” He also asked if I think maybe surgery is a bit extreme. I’m at a total loss how to answer him. I did say that even if I dieted and exercised vigorously I would still be diabetic, but with surgery chances are the diabetes will be reversed. Is he right!? Am I just denying the truth and being lazy? I’m feeling defeated and unsure right now. Megan

Just had my final pre-op appointment yesterday and I was so stoked when I stepped on the scale and it said 249lbs.!!! I've been tolerating the liquid diet really good, no headaches or nausea. However, I did have a craving to chew some food...I chose to chew up a popsicle instead. I've come to far to listen to my cravings...not today Satan!!! OK, so today is my second day post-op. I was advanced to full liquids, meaning yogurt, skim milk, cream soup, and watered down cream of wheat. So far, the food is staying down with no problem. I was supposed to be discharged today, but yesterday afternoon I developed a fever of 100.4 and chills, and my blood pressure dropped to 102/48. They’re monitoring my temperature and BP today and I expect to go home tomorrow. I’m not experiencing any pain at all. (I fully expected to be pretty miserable, but I’m not!) All of my food is being served in tiny 2 ounce cups. I’ll add a photo of today’s lunch (tomato soup and skim milk).

Hello all, I have a 4 hr drive to the hospital where I will be having my surgery. My surgeon likes his patients to stay in the area at least a week post op in case of complications. Although I do think it’s a good idea, I would really rather be in my own home/bed while recouping. Hotels are on summer rates and will be really expensive to stay there......anyone else have to travel?

Surgery was 5/29, so far great, no sickness, no pain pills needed. My surgical glue is already starting to peel off, i go back to work tomorrow. I've lost 31 pounds since my first day of my liquid diet. So 31 pounds lost in 21 days. I feel great, I have tried small bites of yogurt, mashed potatoes, refried beans, and sugarfree vanilla pudding. Nothing upset my stomach. Im still on liquid diet other then just a small bite here and there. Getting my water, and trying to get all my protein in daily. I love how I feel, im excited to see how the months to come go. Good luck to everyone on the pre op side, and good luck to us all on post op side. Keep us posted. Sent from …

I had my surgery February 20,2018 and I’ve had no real issues except for when I was wake up I’m extremely nauseous at least until I get my first few sips of something to drink, even to the point of gagging while I’m running to the kitchen for a bottle of water. Anyone else have this problem? Am I just dehydrated when I first get up? It literally stops as soon as I drink something! Hw- 341 Sw-305 Cw-248 Hw/180

Hey all had lapband in 07 lost about 60lbs or so but have had issues like Gerd and random tightening throughout last 5 years or so had it drained gained all weight back. Went through 6 months diet for insurance and did EGD which doctor said band looked good didn’t see any major issues. I’ve been waiting on insurance approval for about a week or so but having major anxiety about being denied for not enough issues with band. Anyone have experience with this? how long did it take for approval did you call or did it show up online as approved?

Hi All, I'm new to this site. I was banded in 2008 at 220 pounds (5 feet, 2 in) and did not have much weight loss success. Then got terrible acid reflux and had to have it all unfilled. Gained weight and am now 30 pounds more than when I got banded. Now I'm considering a revision from the Band to Bypass. My surgeon advises me to get the Bypass due to issues with reflux with the sleeve. I am reasonably comfortable with the bypass except that I have a mesh inside of me from a previous hernia repair. The surgeon doesn't seem too concerned about it because the incision is below the belly button. Still I'm a little nervous. What if he can't do the bypass and I e…

My surgery is in 3 more days May 30th! Wow! It came so fast! I am freaking out thinking of all the ways it could go wrong and I would be the one that things happen to on the table(I have had multiple surgeries so going under isn’t new to me) for some reason I’m just freaking out about this time around! I’m scared nervous and excited all at once! Ughh! Deep breath! I got this right? I can’t wait to have a new healthier life style, I am not afraid of commitment especially one that will change me for the better!! I want it all too happen so fast and that’s unrealistic I think I may be too hard on myself with the amount of weight I want to lose in the time frame I’m giving my…

I apologize for the lengthy backstory: Just a little about myself: I was originally Lap-banded in Nov 2007 with HW 256, SW 246. In May 2008 we discovered I was pregnant (band unfilled and gave birth to my son in Jan 2009). Then I began the process of starting the lap band fill process again. I was able to get to my lowest weight in 2012 at 168, but normally could maintain between 175-180 with moderate restriction. In Feb 2016 I began having a lot of health problems; I couldn’t get over the “flu”, I had constant reflux- to the point of waking up in vomit a couple of times. At the time I wasn’t thinking much about band complications (I previously had amost of th…

As some of you will have read from earlier posts, my RNY has been a dream run. An absolute dream. But, A glitch in that, and here I sit in hospital, awaiting further tests. 10 days ago I had a bad experience -it just felt like bad bloating at the start, but became really quite bad pain in upper stomach (navel to rib cage) which made me retch, but not vomit. I ended up curled in a foetal position on the bathroom floor in pain (thank heavens for under tile heating!) and then *click* just like throwing a switch it was over. 45 minutes of pain, then as if nothing had happened. But it did make me wonder if I was developing gallstones, the dreaded RNY risk. So, two n…

I've been waiting a year to get to a surgery date for my RNY. I'm proud to say I have gone from 297lbs to 252lbs on my own, over the past year and finally have a surgery date. I'm 13 day says away from surgery and currently doing my liver shrinking (liquid) diet. I've had so many people try and discourage me but, they don't realize the health issues that the weight has caused me. Hopefully this will be a good place of support and positive vibes. Thanks for listening (well technically for reading lol)

So I’m having a hard time with my fast changing body. I mean I have just begun to buy new clothes (7 mos post op) because now I’m losing at a slower pace. But, in the beginning I refused to buy new clothes. I felt it was pointless, especially with the way you run through sizes and all. So, I made a resolution to only buy tights in those first few months after surgery, which I still think was the best idea! Most of my shirts still seem to fit okay to me, although recently my kids and DH kept complaining about how everything was hanging off me and made me give away my old rags ...which was cool because they bought me some new ones but I digress! Currently, I’m strugglin…

So I am just about 6 years post op, my bariatric doctor is no longer practicing and I have not had a real visit specifically for bariatric in a few years. I am maintaining a good weight,my issue currently (has been for a few months) is that I have a stuck feeling in my belly, I still throw up almost daily. It seems worse with any type of beef. My real issue is that I would actually like to see a doctor who is a bariatric doctor. I love my PCP but I sometimes worry that he is not keeping in mind that I had this surgery. Can anyone help me find a CT doctor who will take on a new patient post op??

Everything is been cool for me, a little bit of discomfort, on my stomach (which is normal) butt the only thing that’s been killing me since Saturday night is that I’ve been having coughing episodes, and I feel terrible and been trying to not cough because of the pain that I feel on my lower stomach Any advise would be great for me ??? My wife recently had her surgery (I had mine in April) and she’s not feeling so hot. I know things fall into place and you start feeling better over time but she’s become depressed because of the constant nausea and being unable to comfortably drink. She said it feels like her drinks are getting stuck on the way down and her stomach bubbles when she does get it down. She’s tried ice chips and eats popsicles which works decently but she says she can’t quench her thirst because it’s hard for her to drink. She goes back to work Tuesday and I want to help her feel better. Any tips no matter how big or small? Thanks.

I know I am only 6 days post op from gastric bypass! I am super sore and this tightening in my stomach but really high up just won’t go away. I’m not getting anything over 20oz of fluids a day...today I finally got in 30g protein from a protein shake(that was me forcing myself) I feel like any movements I make hurt and even walking is really painful (I’m walking every hour or even more) I’ve lost 17lbs in 6 days which I’m sure is awesome! Is there a trick to this LOL sounds so silly to ask how can I get all this down and when does the pain start to ease? Or atleast this tightening feeling? I know everyone is different and all recoveries are different. Figured I’d ask to t…
