Hello all, it has been a while since I posted here. As of today I am 18 months 3 days post op for RNY. I met the goal ( and them some) that the surgeon has set for me. I was feeling great and went to my doctor and low and behold I am a full fledged diabetic again. Also, my sleep apnea went from being obstructive to being central. A huge reason that I had the surgery was to take care of these issues. When the doctor told me that I was a diabetic again the first thing she did was put me right back on metformin (I think that she should have sent me to a specialist to find out what the problem was). But that is the VA hospital for you, just give you pills and not worry a…

Uggghh, I found a lot of information about local support groups and a program with another doctor. With my current doctor all I have left is my psych eval and my 3rd appointment is Thursday before I can get cleared for surgery. I believe the other doctor has more experience under his belt and performs the proceedure at a more equipped facility...uggghh decisions

Question. Have any RNY patients had any complications with their sphincter of Oddi? And if so have you undergone an ERCP for diagnosing and treating this? I’ve been having ongoing bouts of intense right upper quadrant abdominal pain that can at times be extremely debilitating, as well as some abnormal LFTs, I’m scheduled for the procedure in about two weeks. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this. Also were you able to have it done endoscopic or did you have to have it done laparoscopic? My doctor is going to try endoscopic although it may have to convert to laparoscopic. Did this procedure/treatment work for your symptoms? I did have my gallbladder out abo…

My 3 month post op went great! I met with the PA but the surgeon called me a couple hours later to personally congratulate me on my success so far. Down 84lbs and took 14 points off my BMI. Here’s a pic from our great day! Thank you to my super supportive hubby!

The first stall has arrived. For the past week I've been fluctuating between the same 2 pounds. It makes me really appreciate others that are in a stall because it certainly isn't easy so I am going to swallow my own medicine and just persevere through it.

So My surgery date finally happened today. I am scheduled for June 4th. I am super stoked but also scared if that makes sense. I often wonder will I look 100 years old since I am already 55 and I wonder if my face will cave in. Maybe I am over reacting thoughts in my brain. It is always scary I am sure whenever anyone goes in for surgery. My son does not want me to have the surgery since he lost his only brother my son and also my husband was killed a few months ago in a wreck. I am his only person left so he does not share in my enthusiasm.

I started at 257lbs, I now weigh 213lbs. The weight is coming off slower now. It was really exciting to try new clothes on. I was a size 24 and when I went to the store, I grabbed a bunch of size 18's to try on, they were all to big. Friends and family or noticing. My confidence has really increased. The changes are very motivating. Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app

My stomach is mad upset this evening. Wasn't able to hold dinner down and I think I got a little behind on my liquids and boy am I feeling it. I just want to find a piece of furniture to hide behind. I forgot the nauseous feeling from not drinking enough water. It sucks big green balls!

I had my sleeve done on the 17th, I had fair amount of nausea in the hospital, but I got to go home the next day. I feel like every time i sip, there is a gurgle, and has but I took Gas-X and the pressure went away and I walk and sip as much as I can. BUT my concern is, I'm hungry! Why am I hungry? Everyone said with the sleeve you don't feel hunger, but I am feeling hunger pains, my stomach rumbles all the time. I'm thinking about food a lot, purely because I feel so hungry. I can start full liquids tomorrow. I still get nauseous mostly from smells, I haven't vomited since my night home from the hospital, and I am still in a good deal of pain. Anyone else deal with this?…

I tried these for the first time, because I figured I had better get used to them before surgery, and they're disgusting! What else did you use to get in your protein right after surgery? I was told 2 of these Myo's and 64 oz of Fluids. Now I'm unsure of being able to get enough protein in as I cannot stomach them now. Any advice?

Now that I am down 51 pounds from my heaviest, I have some new found courage to explore going back to school to learn a trade. I am 41 years old and spent most of my adult life working in Information Technology. I've fallen a little behind the times since going on disability. Now that I am feeling well enough to return to the work force, I am finding it increasingly difficult to get hired. Information Technology is a young man's game. Well, now that I've lost some weight it dawned on me that I could go to a trade school to learn a trade and hopefully get re-employed in an entirely new career field. I am thinking about going into the Automotive/Diesel Technician field or m…

Hi there. I just finished my 6 month supervised diet and I’m just waiting to hear back from insurance so I can schedule for RNY. So far I’ve had no issue telling people my plans. Everyone at work knows. I work at a psych hospital and we have a lot of potlucks and I just figured early on there would be a lot less pressure if I told my coworkers so they’d be understanding when I wasn’t eating or going for weekly beers after work anymore. All my friends know and are very excited for me. My immediate family knows and are very supportive however.... This passed weekend we had a huge family get together with family members I haven’t seen since my mother passed almost 2 years a…

I know it might seem a bit desperate but I'm going to give it a go... I feel kind of alone even though I'm surrounded by people. I feel like I'm a liar because I can't be honest with anyone. I put on this smiling face and say I'm f.i.n.e. but really I'm not and I really need some people to talk to. Maybe, hopefully some people can relate and we can help each other. How long is everyone taking off work? I had my surgery Wednesday and was planning on returning this Wednesday but it has been rough recovering. I’ve been spiking a fever from the pain since coming home and quickly get short of breath from the discomfort walking. I walked more than anyone on the floor while in the hospital but I have a ruptured disc and after the surgery my back was hurting as well as my tummy. I also had a hernia repaired. I am planning on trying to go back April 30 or May 8....what did everyone else do? I am trying to heel doing small frequent walks vs long because I think I overdid it my first days home...I can barely stand up on my own from the swelli…

So my surgery date is set for May 2 here in Oklahoma City. I have lost 22 pounds in my pre-op diet and looking forward to a successful bypass. I was talking with a friend today who got me a little nervous. She said she has heard of many people having complications or not keeping weight off long-term. Could use some positive thoughts or advice here. I was pretty confident I was doing the right thing until I heard these horror stories. Thanks, .

Well, it’s almost here. Tomorrow, I will finally have RNY surgery. Although I’ve enjoyed many incredible moments, many have been based around food. I am looking forward to new adventures. Starting with a trip to Disney!! It has been quite a journey so far. Gaining and losing 100s of lbs. The straw that broke the camels back for me was losing 50 lbs last year. I was working out and eating right. I fell off the wagon and not only gained back the 50 lbs but an additional 40 lbs. I was devastated. I’m approaching 50 years of age and I feel myself slowing down. Missing out on activities with family and friends. It is time for a change. I have spent time during my pre…

I have a grilled chicken salad just ready and waiting for dinner. I can't wait to take a bite of that one. Grilled chicken, leafy greens, and some match stick carrots. I had a 30 cal bag of Apple slices with 4 slices of cheese as a snack. Now I get to discover all of the good food that I used to pass up in favor of fast food. I still must be careful about portions but it feels like the worst of the surgery is over.

I started running again about 4 weeks ago and was very surprised how easy it was to get back into it. I used to run 6 miles a day every day about 17 years ago until I blew out my Right ACL for a 2nd time. The injury also severely damaged my meniscus so most of it had to be removed. I was told I would have pain walking let alone ever running again. That is when I started gaining weight. I went from 160 lbs to 270 lbs in about 2 years. I attempted to control my eating so I wouldn't gain weight but I wasn't very successful. Over the past couple years I started doing a lot of walking (a couple miles a day). The walking didn't help my weight but it kept my legs lea…

Hi All Paranoia setting in around how much we should be eating at four months out?! I am full after 3/4 of a cup… Does that sound right? Usually around 600 -650 calories and 4 ounces weighed but sometimes that equates to 3/4 of a cup volume. Anybody know or have insight where we should be at 4 months for volume? Ie half cup? 3/4 cup? Hi team I have been quiet this week - I am in China and the Internet is ... patchy. Great visit - managed my official banquet lunches and dinners with dignity, a bite of every dish (there are usually 12-20 different items, all circulation on a lazy Susan - you never know how many will come and are constantly exhorted to eat more, try another signature dish. Lucky the food is healthy, proteinous. And I have dropped a couple more pounds this week ?) Just before I left I went scuba diving and as I was training, lifting tanks on and off my dive buddy, I felt like I pulled a wee muscle, off to the left side of my breastbone to navel RNY scar - right where my gastric…

Hi, I am 14 days post surgery, I had my first try at mashed potato and cheese for lunch yesterday. I could only manage a yogurt for tea as I was so full. Today I have a really bad stomach and have been sick about 8 time. My throat and esophagus is burning. I am not sure when I should panic and what I should do. I had my surgery done privately and so am not sure who to call for advice. Thanks for any thoughts you have. K

I can't remember who told me about Iceland Yogurt but I decided to give it a try today. Let me say that it tastes so much better than Greek Yogurt. Greek Yogurt had a funny aftertaste that I found disagreeable. If you want to try the Icelandic variety, the brand to look for is Skyr. It has less sugar and carbs than Greek and tastes pretty darn good. You can't beat that a serving size has 15g of protein.

The surgeons office called today and they’ve scheduled me for August 13th. But ... she said my weight was down and they want me to stay at 240. Last weigh in was 238 and I’ve since lost 3 more lbs. I have to get it back to 240 and hold it there for my weigh ins. She said the insurance companies are weird about comorbidities and they need me to keep my BMI at 40. WTH!

I'm just looking for feedback possibly from people who've had gastric bypass that are taller than 6'1". The reason why I am looking for info is because my surgeon said in my consultation that being 6'3" might have a higher chance of a complication when trying to attach the small intestine and stretching it to the stomach as per gastric bypass surgery. He suggested I think about this procedure or the gastric sleeve. The sleeve being better for my height as it usually results in less complications because they really dont do anything with small intestine. so im leaning towards the sleeve though gastric bypass has faster results... i would greatly appreciate any feedbac…

Hi all! I am new to this group. I'm sure this question has been answered before but I just need some reassurance. I am 51 years old and had the gastric bypass on 3/5/18. As of today I have lost over 50 pounds in 6 weeks. A few weeks ago I tried eating the soft food stage. I tried cottage cheese, yogurt, canned tuna, soups, etc. I would eat and it would feel like it was stuck and then I would have a severe pain in my stomach. It felt like the food wasn't going down. I would then throw it back up. I saw my doctor and I had an upper GI done and minor surgery to widen my esophagus. That was 2 weeks ago. I am still having the same issue. I feel week, have head…

I had a revision from Gastric Sleeve to RNY on 1/30/18 so I’m roughly a month out. I’m having trouble tolerating solid food some days I’m fine other days I’m not. I’m terrified I may have stretched my pouch already because of some poor choices. I let stress and depression get to me and I’ve been drinking juice and have had some potato chips. I know bad decision so close out. Have I already screwed my self? Can I still make this work for me? Any tips and advice for getting my life and diet back on track would be appreciated.
