Hi Everyone! I just want to hear some of the best advise you can give regarding WLS the good the bad the ugly! I am an avid traveler and i am worried about how this will affect that, and your daily life! Is it different now? Are you happier? I suffer from anxiety i have never had any type of surgery and quite honestly it terrifies me. i have extreme anxiety about anything medical related and i have what i would consider "worst case scenario brain" i enjoy torturing myself and looking up all that could go wrong with the surgery... but i am so tired of feeling like this, and have seen so many beautiful success stories it motivated me! Hi all, im one week post op today and I am not feeling well at all. I feel so weak my legs get shaky just holding me up. I tried to take a shower today for the first time since surgery and that was a big mistake, instant nausea and totally dizzy. I’ve pretty much been living off popsicles and water because all broth tastes terrible to me and I’m worried with how weak I am getting. I put a message in to my surgery team and I’m sure I’ll hear from them tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone had the same experience because all the videos I come across people seem to happy-go-lucky by one week out. Thank you

I had Gastric Bypass on 10/17/17 and my surgery weight was 475lbs. My heaviest weight ever recorded was 581lbs on Jan 9th of 2017 today I weighed in at 405lbs 70 down since surgery and 176 total since last Jan. Going back to Junior high and school I can't remember the last time I was able to tell someone that I was 3 something and even though that's still a large # it's not 400 and it's not 500 and it defiantly not near the almost 600 I was at just over a year ago, I've been struggling a little bit with the scale the last 6-8 weeks. It would either stay the same or go down 1/2 pond here and there. These last 8 pounds since being 408 has been a real strugg…

  6. I had Gastric Bypass on 12-1-2009 and have recently discovered that my teeth are riddled with cavities, issues below the gum lines, broken teeth, crumbling teeth, teeth turning gray, enamel thinning and cavaties under my crowns! I reached out to a friend of mine who had the same surgery about 5 years ago and she is going through the same thing! She spent over $8K last year and $7K needed this year only for her dentist to tell her she will eventually lose all of her teeth and need dentures! I had my RNY surgery Aug 4, 2017 so this seemed like a good time for a check in. I've lost just about 150 lbs since the whole journey started--110 since the surgery. Went from size 30-32 to 16. I've had some really noticeable "firsts" in the last couple of months: flying without having to use a seat extender, having someone who didn't know me before tell me that I was so much smaller than they (in my mind we were the same size), being able to shop in a "regular" store and have choices. My mobility and energy is so much better, though I'm still building strength from a foot and ankle condition, at least I'm able to make progress on them. Eating can still be a puzzle. …

  9. I have a lot of supportive friends and family and I am truly blessed to have them, but... sometimes their questions about how I am doing make me feel like I will never progress fast enough for them. Getting lots of questions about how much have I lost, am I ready to buy a whole new wardrobe, what am I eating...etc. Sometimes I just want to get back to my routine and not have the focus on me. I really think some of them expected me to be thin right after the surgery....it’s been 3 weeks! My Dr. Office and husband assure me I’m doing great, but when you start off at almost 400 pounds, 50 pounds down (since beginning journey) just doesn’t make a dent. I’ve got a…

Everything is going well - but today I experienced something I hadn't before, so thought I would share here for any input from others who may have experienced the same thing. I am very diligent about eating my 3 meals per day, drinking my 64 ounces of water per day, and not drinking 10 minutes before, during, or 30 minutes after my meals. However, today I literally had to force myself to go get lunch. I grabbed a bit of hummus and a few crispy crackers and tried to eat some. But after literally 2-3 very small nibbles, I couldn't eat anything. I felt as if I would make myself sick if I tried to eat anything. So I threw it away - and went for a 30 minu…

  19. Today, so joyful. Tomorrow - on a flight to a small pacific island for 7 uninterrupted days of scuba diving - no mobiles, no internet. Scuba is MUCH harder when one is obese - you need so much more lead weights around your waist just to make that damned fat sink, plus I was less fit, fatty tissue uses that air faster, etc. This photo - me diving 5 years ago in NZ just as I started to regain weight following my lapband failure. I am smaller than this now, and in the warm pacific water this diving trip should be paradise - interspersed with fishing, and then eating fresh fish and crab meals when on land! Against the prevailing advice of everyone out there, I decided not to take before pictures this time. Being overweight has brought me nothing but physical and emotional pain and misery. I want nothing further to remind me of where I was. The past two times when I lost a lot of weight, I took before photos and failed. I am just not doing it this time. Where I was no longer matters at all; it's where I am headed that matters. I am also losing weight for completely different reasons this time. I don't have some delusions of grandeur or doing anything big. This is simply a quest for better health. The last time I lost a lot of weight, I could ride a bicycle 100 miles and I ro…

Now that I am on pureed, I notice that my tastes have changed. For example, I really like Greek Yogurt now, whereas before surgery, I couldn't stand it. I bought some shaved pepperoni and ended up throwing it out. I hated the way it tasted and I used to love pepperoni. It's really interesting how things have changed. Even eating is still mechanical and brings me no feeling of joy. It's just eating to live now and I am grateful for it. I wonder if this surgery could be a cure for an eating disorder?

I had an endoscopy for an ulcer and they found that my opening was only 9mm. I had a dilation a few weeks later to bring it to 12mm. It’s been 5-6 weeks and I don’t notice any improvement so they will go in again in about 2 weeks. (I just had a double mastectomy a week ago so need to wait). My questions for those of you that had dilations are what size were you stretched to and then how many dilations did you have until it “took”? My surgery was 5-8-2017 so coming up on a year soon. I’ve eaten mostly soft foods and tiny portions this whole time and can’t wait to add some variety into my diet.

I’ve struggled with vomiting after eating foods since I’ve moved on from the soft food phase, so much so that I’ve gone back to soup being my primary intake as that’s the best chance I’ve got of keeping it down. There are no patterns to the types of food I eat and which can result in vomiting and pain. i went to see my GP and my bloods are showing iron deficiency and further issues with my parathyroid (?) which they are investigating. Hi Folks, I did not find a topic of patients travelling within the EU and Turkey for BARIATRIC surgery. Your personal experiences in this forum can be very useful to people of our fraternity. Cost wise, Turkey bypass cost is just over £3k and Riga or Lithuania is about 30%+. The UK costs are a minimum of £11k. This makes medical travel very cost effective. I was advised in the Emirates that Turkish hospitals are very good. Can we generalize though? I do understand that one cannot be overtly critical. The goal being - minimizing risk. I have come a cross various clinics with reviews that are questionable. I cannot obviously trust all service providers with myself. I lo…
