I think it is safe to say that none of us got here without trying diets that we inevitably cheated on and then quit. I am at week seven and I have lost 33lbs. My clothes are getting big and I am starting to see changes. If I wasn't seeing changes, I think I would be having a harder time dealing with my new lifestyle. Now that I can't turn to food, unless I want to suffer, I am starting to realize how much I used food to deal with almost everything from stress to boredom. I know I would have never found the self control to stop abusing food without this surgery. I am so glad that I jumped through all of those hoops to make this possible. I started my journey last month met with Dr he said I was a good candidate for gastric sleeve using robotic surgery. I screwed up and I am not sugar coating it in any way or making excuses. I had two Philly soft pretzels (350 cals ea.) I ate one slowly at 4:00pm and the other at 6:00pm. I was hoping that I would get dumping syndrome and I did not. I only felt full. Okay, I am right back on the horse. Other than reminding myself that this was a poor personal choice, I learned something interesting. Food no longer induces the euphoria and relaxation that it once did. I didn't feel any better, just fuller.

  6. OK y'all. Much has been written right here in our little slice of heaven about getting into pools and hot tubs post surgery! I was cleared for full work-outs with weights at my 4 week check-up. My incisions are healed, scabs gone, bruises almost gone. We discussed water aerobics. She seemed to like the idea of them... But! I forgot to ask her about getting in a hot tub. Derp! Next weekend I will be 5 1/2 weeks post op. Do you think it will be safe to get in a hot tub? It's privately owned rather than public. I don't want my wounds to re-open or get a bunch of grahdoo growing in them. God wouldn't it be aweful to be sitting there and look down and like a zombie,…

  10. Had gastric bypass on July 2017. So its been 8 months post op. I lost over 100lbs and I am weighing in at 209 lbs. Been a battle. Weight loss has slowed down and I feel my body is battling with me to stop me from getting under 200. My hunger somewhat increased but I just eat more fruit. I have cheated a few times with nut free gingerbread cookies but really nothing that will develop into a habit. I still at times cannot satisfy my hunger because sometimes I dont like any food or this strange habit of food being disgusting to me or after I eat it. My appetite changes daily. Some days still hard to get in food so I still turn to my premier protein. I have been working out r…

Hi, y'all. This is my first time here. I had severe constipation. I wound up taking Fleet suppositories which finally helped (after taking oral stool softeners, drinking lots of liquids, eating healthy fats). This lasted days and was blindingly painful. I thought I might have to go to the hospital. Has anyone experienced this? I am 160 days post RYN surgery and this is the first time I've had a problematic bowel movement. Pre-surgery, I always had diarrhea, so this was very foreign territory. I seek to learn of medical and non-medical remedies and coping mechanisms. Thank you, Cindi

Background: I am 12 weeks post op from RNY gastric bypass that was uneventful. No complications. No hernia repair or gallbladder removal at time of surgery. My recovery has been uneventful, progressed on schedule from liquids to solids right on schedule Problem: I've had this weird thing happen to me twice that scared me and I can't figure out the cause. It happened 5 weeks apart. Both times in the morning. I get rather strong, want to double over "bad gas" type of pain in my lower intestines, I go to the bathroom to release what I think will be trapped gas, but just as I sit down on the toilet, I start dry heaving uncontrollably with nothing but saliva…

Has anyone used the Vasayo core instead of flinstones vitamins? I am going to ask my dr next month but thought I would check here too. The liposome delivery system seems like it would be good for my new digestive system. Thanks for any info you may have.

  14. One of the top three reasons I chose to have the RNY gastric bypass is to get relief from the horrible heartburn that I experienced from GERD and to hopefully (ultimately) get regression from Barrett's Esophagus. Not daily, but once or twice a week since surgery, I have had worse heartburn then I ever experienced prior to surgery. I am taking the same medicine (40mg Prilosec and my surgeon told me to add 300mg of Zantac after the first week) and my diet is the blandest it has ever been. I literally only eat vanilla OIKOS Zero yogurt, bananas, almond milk, Premier Protein, no sugar added applesauce, plain rolled oats and chicken broth. I am scared. Could th…

Hello again everyone, I am pretty new here and have mostly been on the pre-op pages. I am in the process of getting cleared for my RNY bypass/revision from lap band placed 8 years ago. I am back at my lap band surgery weight, but the band has been wide open for a few years. Anyways, in preparing for this elective surgery, I have been very honest with myself about the extremely low (0.4% I see a lot) chances of dying with this surgery. After having the lap band, I also realize (somewhat) about long term effects from the band. I am not near 600 pounds (I am about half that), but I watch "My 600# Life" to help motivate me to move forward with the progress. One of t…

So for those of you that don't know it, I am culinary-challenged. I am an awful cook and terrible at food preparation so I thought the pureed food stage was going to be murder until I found this from a company called Thick-It: http://thickit.com/products/purees/. Now certainly not all of the products will qualify as some have too much sugar/carbs. But for the most part, they look like they could work well. I know that this is kicking the problem a little further down the road, but for the time being, it may help for the pureed stage. So what are your thoughts?

Ok I am five days post op and have had very little pain except right after surgery. Today I was just chilling in my recliner when I got this burning stabbing pain that rolled up into my chest, left shoulder and left shoulder blade. I felt like I needed to burp but no matter how much I burped the pain got worse. Then I got super nauseous and every time I dry heaved a puff of gas would come out. My stomach is all bloated and painful too. I don’t understand what happened? I didn’t drink anything different or do anything different. I got super light headed too, so I called my surgeon who said this is normal post op gas pain. How can I get rid of this? I tried walking, gas x, …

Ok so I woke up in post op with some serious pain. I just remember moaning and groaning. My surgery was at 10 and took about an hour. Finally made it to my room at 3pm. I honestly don’t remember much. I was getting dilaudid every 2 hours I took my first walk at 10pm but not far. I didn’t sleep much at all. This morning I went for another walk, and tried Percocet but it was not cutting it so I got more dilaudid. Took a nap. The nurse filled up 16 1 oz cups for me to drink in order to go home. But it hursts to swallow so I haven’t been doing too good. My Dr decided I will need to stay one more day to get pain under control, walk and drink more. My pain is all in my stomach …

Contact your surgeon’s office immediately if vomiting persists.” An acquaintance of mine that had the surgery pukes all the time and tells me about it happening when it happens. I’m terrified to throw up. Is puking normal after surgery? Does it happen often? Thanks!! Megan

  31. I am worried that I might not be able to handle this. I'm not concerned about the cost because my insurance has been awesome. They seem to be on board and just want me to go through the motions (regular doctors visits, showing a consistent weight issue, nutritionists visits, heart and lung testing, etc etc.) I'm worried about myself emotionally and mentally. I have many issues and I thrive on consistency. Any type of change or unease seriously hikes my anxiety. (Diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.) I don't feel that it helps much. I had RNY gastric bypass in 2009. Any helpful suggestions I could mention to my doctor. He is aware I had this procedure so I'm not sure extended release os the best option.

I will say this: protein is incredibly filling. I just tried my first protein shake, an 11 oz. Premiere Protein Vanilla, and I drank it over a period of about an hour. I am full to the brim. I was feeling good on clear liquids so I decided, even though it is a just a little bit early, to try some protein. Yeah, I be full .... I don't think I could get any more water down at the moment so it is a good thing I am at my water goal for the day. Tomorrow when I officially go on protein, I am going to have to be extra careful. I really don't want to puke. The next several months are going to be a learning experience.
