  1. Hi folks, I had my laparoscopic RNY on 12/29/17 and the weight starting fall off rapidly. I know I tend to carry a lot of Water weight and I lost quickly what seemed to be about 30 pounds from my surgery weight of 360. BUT...I've had very low appetite. Not going to lie, I've been a bit lazy about taking my Vitamins. I only drink one Protein Shake a day because my formerly beloved Premier Protein is too sweet and artificial tasting. I'm about to start on mushy foods so I am thinking I will go for Protein heavy choices like my favorite, Breakstone's 2% Cottage cheese (so creamy and tight curd, not slimy and a good flavor with a dash of salt and pepper on top!) and I gu…

Hi All, I’m new to the forum and new to the lifestyle. I had surgery 5 days ago (1/17/18). Everything seems like it’s going according to plan/expectations but I find myself quite dizzy and haven’t taken any pain relievers today to see if maybe that was the culprit. Now I’m uncomfortable and dizzy. I got my fluids in today so I don’t think I’m dehydrated. Any one else have this/suggestions for a cure? Thanks!

  7. Hi all I am nearly six weeks post op, and down nicely - loss is a bit slower now but mine was a gastric band replacement and my surgery was also to call a halt to the regain, so I was needing to lose ‘only’ 65 pounds or so. My observation is this: my new tummy seems to let me eat faster than others can (although I try to slow down, but I find that hard). I have been easily able to eat a pottle of protein plus yoghurt (60g) since maybe two weeks post op, but I restricted myself to half, to get my morning 20g protein in. I can eat pretty much whatever I chose (haven’t done sweets and won’t, but very lightly sweetened rhubarb went down fine). Now, I am hitting 50…

  8. Just had my RNY this morning. I was definitely prepared to experience a lot of pain and discomfort. But let me tell y’all...i feel amazing!! Hardly any pain, no nausea, not much gas. So those who have surgeries coming up, DONT BE AFRAID! I am your reassurance that not every story is a horror story. Be brave and remember that it’s so worth it! So blessed!

Hi everyone, I just have a quick question. My insurance's only requirement to have gastric bypass is that the surgery be medically necessary. I do not have any health conditions because of my weight. I am in good health except for my weight. I do have issues with my gallbladder. Because of that my doctor plans to remove it at the same time during my gastric bypass surgery. Will a bmi over 40 be enough to prove it's medically necessary? I'm worried I might get denied by my insurance because I do not have any health conditions related to my weight. Any and all replies welcome! Thanks!! I had surgery Wednesday morn came home yesterday.. last night was so hard to sleep because of the back pain and have had it all morning.. at first it started low down by kidneys and radiates upward but then will feel like kidney stone pain. Hi y’all! Band to bypass on 12/12/17. I was losing weight pretty steadily and I’m really sticking to the rules and eating my required (at least) 68 g of protein a day. I’m not perfect at getting at least 80 ounces, but even thru the holidays I managed to lose a few pounds. But how did my weight jump three lbs overnight? I was just 246 the other day and now I’m 249.4? WTF? My weight has ALWAYS fluctuated like this so I shouldn’t be surprised but Jesus I’m only like a month out and only 26 (well, 23) pounds down since before my liquid diet. Shouldn’t it be way more than that considering my liquid diet started the Monday after thanksgiving?

  14. Hi All. I just signed my consent forma at the surgeon's office. I am having gastric bypass surgery and the surgeon said that if there were adhesions or scar tissue where I had my lap and removed 3 years ago he would do the gastric sleeve instead. Yikes. Long story short. I started this process last January. My insurance at that time was United Health Care. I met with my surgeon and got all required testing and psych evaluation done. I had my surgery scheduled for July of last year pending insurance approval and I only had my last supervised diet class to attend. Well around May I was faced with financial crisis that ended in having to file for bankruptcy. At that time I was unable to go through with surgery because of my finances and other issues. Now fast forward to this January I decided to go through with the surgery. I called my insurance company. I now have new insurance because my husband's employer changed insuran…

I am 10 weeks about from my RNY. I weigh once a week. It seems that my average is to lose 3-5 lbs./week. However, last week I dropped much more - from 254 to 248. I was so excited. So I weighed a few days later to see if I was on a roll - and the scale went back to 253-254. I'm logging my food faithfully, getting in my protein, water and my calorie counts are typically 600-800/day. So I'm confused - why would the scale jump six pounds? Should I be worried?

Hi All. So my surgery is scheduled for Tuesday next week. Last night I forgot to plug in my phone. When it was finally charged at 515 today I had a voicemail from the bariatric team coordinator. She said she needed to talk to me regarding my bloodwork. I have mild stage 2 kidney disease. I also have Fatty liver disease. I saw my labs last week on my portal. I knew they weren't great but I am on the preop ketosis diet and they did them without me fasting and I didn't get a chance to hydrate. These are the worst parts: urea nitrogen/creatinine ratio, serum 31.8 urea nitrogen, blood 35 potassium, serum 5.3 erythrocyte (RBC) count 3.95 …

I dont have reflux or GERD, i do have type 2 diabetes but it is fairly well controlled and for me at least very much weight related so either procedure should help in that department (also read an interesting study on which procedure is better for diabetes yesterday and long term they are showing it is actually pretty even). We were approved last week and I have a surgery date set for 2/5/18. The main thing that pushed me over the edge towards the surgery was that my husband and I really want to start a family. I have PCOS and a combination of type 1 and 2 diabetes, so my weight is a huge problem that (when combined with those other two) creates a whole host of fertility issues. It has been a crazy week, as I went from submitting for insurance approval, to approval, scheduled for February and today was moved up to January 25th. There is a lot out there discussing post op diet and I have read through a lot of it. Question is, I see a lot of “menus” that realistically, seem like they will be hard to follow years down the road, on a day to day basis. I’m not talking about the type of food etc., I mean the eating 2 oz of meat then in 2 hours, a cup of skim milk. Same routine, throughout the day. On a regular schedule, doesn’t seem too hard, just some planning. But what about on vacation? Or on a day full of errands? Years down the road, are you still…
