Has anyone had a gastric bypass with a starting BMI lower than 30? I had gastric sleeve two years ago. I lost 40 pounds within six months, then plateaued, and then regained 10 lbs. I also have severe GERD. So, my insurance approved the revision to bypass (shocking/surprise). My surgery is next week. When I started my pre-op diet I was at a 29 BMI, now I'm at 28 BMI. I'd like to hear from anyone who's had bypass with a low BMI, as I'm concerned with malnutrition and losing too much weight.

Hello all, It seems that I have come to a plateau and would like some advice and or words of encouragement so that I can get back on track. I had lower limb surgery in December which has caused me to be less active in my daily life activity. I know this is what has caused my weight loss to stop and I’m confident I’ve gained ~3 to 5lbs. I don’t want to lose hope and I want to continue my weight loss progress successfully. If anyone has any advice on how to get back on track it would truly be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello. I had my surgery June of 2017. I stared at around 304 (356 highest) and am down to only 256. I’m 8 months out. I feel like a huge failure. I am 24 years old. My old habits kicked in, bingeing and all that stuff. I’ve been a complete mess this evening, crying and the whole bunch thinking I have lost my opportunity to finally be where I want to be and have completely failed the surgery. I feel like now it will be impossible to lose the weight and I have completely missed the boat. How long will it take to lose 60 pounds from 8 in the out? Will the surgery still work? I’m just so scared and upset thinking of how I have failed such a wonderful opportunity.

HI New to this forum and it's so educating reading everyone's stories, goals, concerns, ect. You guys amaze me at your strength and determination. After much research i think i am going to have the gastric sleeve. Personally I think it's the best option for me. I talked to my insurance today because i had to get preapproved and things look good there. They have assigned me one of their nurses who will call weekly before and after surgery so that is nice. Now i have to call for an appt with a surgeon. I will do that tomorrow seeing how that closed early today. My biggest fear is telling my boyfriend and family. I am terrified to tell him afrai…

I hit my goal and lost 25lbs in the first four weeks. That's 25% of my total goal approximately. I started at 257lbs now I weigh 232lbs. I hadn't thrown up once in the four weeks until last night. I had chicken and mashed cauliflower. I did everything wrong. I didn't chew enough and I probably ate to much to fast. I spent an hour with the worst indigestion of my life. I could tell that food was just sitting there and was not going down. I sipped some water hoping it would help. Then I finally threw up and felt so much better. It was a good lesson I guess. I finally understand what sensations to pay attention to with my stomach. I will be more careful going forward. I s…

I have read stories that really run the gamut when it comes to weight loss over a 3-6 month period and I know it largely depends on metabolism and genetics but what would be considered a reasonable expectation? I don't want to go in to this expecting a 90 pound weight loss in 90 days (it's happened to some people) and end up significantly short of that.

Hi there. My 6 month supervised diet is set to be over on April 10th. My Dr. Has given me a time frame of surgery being 1 or 2 months after that which could put me into June for surgery. It seems like a long time to wait to me as I’m already super impatient! I’m curious to see how long insurance approval took for others. I have regence uniform plus for insurance. My Dr. Says I’m doing really well so far with my diet and he thinks I’m a great candidate for surgery so I don’t foresee there being any problems.

Hello, I haven’t posted an update in awhile. I’m down 100lbs and have basically been able to maintain since my lower body lift in August! RYN - Oct 2016 - 292 LBL - Aug 2017 - 197 Today 191lbs Everything has come pretty easily to me and no complications! I don’t exercise very much, just keep busy with my son and try to walk on treadmill 1-2 times a week, some ab work and push-ups here and there. I want to maintain at 185, so I’m back to logging food and watching things a little closer. But can’t believe how far I’ve come. Planning another round of plastic surgery probably for April - revision to upper tummy with breast lift as well as a small arm and thigh lift. Would a…

I have my psych evaluation on 3/10 and last nut appointment on 3/12... insurance said it could take 3 days to 3 weeks to approve in patient taking longer. How long did it take for your approval how long of a wait for surgery date? I want to have it in April or at least by mid May is that realistic? I had a full abdominal radical hysterectomy last June I'm assuming that the pain will be similar, anyone have both and have pain comparisons? I wish I was more patient person

Hey all! So, I had my surgery (RNY) at 7 am on the 5th. Surgery went perfectly and, after a very easy hospital stay, I went home the next day! My recovery has been pretty great (a few pics below). I've had *very* minimal pain, I think I only had to take the pain meds 4 times, and even then I only took the minimal dose to sleep. I don't think I really have any pain at all, at this point. My fatigue level is also getting better day by day. A few days ago I was worn out just walking around the mall, now I'm itching to get back to work! The biggest thing is that I had my post-op appointment today- total weight loss so far is 20.5lbs (woo!). I haven't used any i…

You know being heavy, fat, fluffy, chunky, overweight, obese, or whatever else you want to call it gave me a unique understanding that our world our enjoyments revolve around food. It has been amazing to see this enlightenment hit my friends and husband, and for them to find real empathy when dealing with the sensitive subject of eating and dieting. These past two weeks have been intense first my twin daughters turned 14 and had a slumber party the treats they chose to give to their friends could have given you a toothache just from looking at them. My husband rattled around asking if I was ok, how can I be doing ok he can barely keep from eating them, and then eventua…

Okay, I decided to eat one meal a day that is pureed instead of staying on liquids another week. Tonight's meal was blended brussel sprouts and chicken. It tasted amazing! I don't think I have ever eaten brussel sprouts before but they sounded so good when I was at the store. I am so glad I did. This seems like a lot of food. Three weeks and 20lbs down. I can start pureed food today. However, I would really like to see 25 - 30lbs come off in my first month. I might stay on liquids one more week. I have not exercised at all yet. Frankly, I have no energy because of the liquid diet. I am listening to my body and I figure week four will be when I can start my workout routine. I am seeing changes in my body and it is exciting. I started at 257lbs and I am now down to 237lbs. Overall, things have been great with no complications. No buyers remorse here. People say the first month is really hard but it hasn't been bad. Sure, day one looking at three weeks ahead of liquids seemed impossible. Yet, her…

Hello all! I’m at the very beginning of my path for WLS. I’m leaning toward gastric bypass but am not 100% decided. I have a few questions: 1. How long should I expect to be off work? How long were you off? 2. What did you tell your boss when asking for time off? 3. What did you tell your co-workers? Thank you! [emoji4]

Hi All. I had my surgery almost 3 weeks ago. I went off diabetes meds before surgery and I'm still off. My b.s. is running from 87 to 160. I am wondering if any of you had these kind of numbers at 3 weeks out and then still had remission after more weight was lost. I have had type 2 for 13 years. I was on metformin and victoza. Thanks! I am almost 6 weeks out of my RNY and I am scared to eat very much. I am not hungry so I feel like I have to remind myself to eat something. I only eat 2-3 oz of food at a time and only about 3-4 times a day. I still am doing soft foods and I am really scared to eat anything else. What amount of food do most people eat at this stage and what are you eating. My husband laughs at me because I take my tiny bowl and tiny spoon with me everywhere.

Hi all 8 week’s post surgery. I have noticed in the last fortnight that I am getting regular bruising appearing on my arms in particular - clusters of bruise dots. I have the fourth or fifth lot now - the older ones are still disappearing. Not big - maybe clusters the size of thumb from the center joint to tip. I have always bruised a bit easily, and I am fairly active around the place, but I am keeping an eye on it - is this a post WLS ‘thing’? I am eating about 750 calories a day, with 50-60g protein - less veggies than usual, but if hungry I snack on cherry tomarto just to try and get veggies in. Taking good vitamins daily, and just started sub lingual …

Hi All. I am almost two weeks out and on what is called the full liquid diet by my surgeon. Basically, they added skim milk, 4 oz of yogurt, 2 oz of no sugar added applesauce and 2oz of sugar free pudding. The SF pudding, in my opinion, is not really necessary except for the texture and taste but I can live without it. I will say that before the RNY I thought the SF pudding wasn't sweet at all and now wow it sure is sweet lol. The dannon light and fit greek yogurt is healthier - no fat, lots of protein, etc. No sugar added applesauce is ok and the only fruit I can have so I eat it. Thing is, I don't really want to eat more than 800 calories a day so I'm…

Hi all, I'm currently in my pre-op phase. Not sure if I will be having sleeve or bypass, depends on my EGD results on the 22nd. I'm hoping for sleeve. Anyway, some questions for those of you who are post-op and have reached their new "normal": 1. Can you take pills? My gallbladder was removed in 2004 and I've been on PPI's ever since so not sure if I will still be able to? 2. Does anyone still need to take PPI's now that I'm thinking about it? I suppose it's possible that surgery will eliminate the need for them! 3. Carbonated beverages? My surgeon hasn't said much about them. 4. Alcohol? I'm not an alcoholic or anything but I do enjoy a margarita or martini for my birt…
