Hello Everyone, I just moved from my 21 year home in North Carolina to Rhode Island this past summer. I also made a decision I had been thinking about for a few years, to have Weight loss surgery. I had my first appointment with my surgeon on 11/16/17. We decided on the bypass due to my diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I have gotten through all steps required for surgery except for my endoscopy, I have that tomorrow. Everything is going well I have no reason to think I won't be approved by my insurance (Tricare Prime). I am just feeling like I am hanging out here by my self. My family is very supportive but I left all my friends behind when …

I got delayed several months for factors that I won't go in to, but I got my surgery date and will be having gastric bypass done on Feb 1st! I feel so relieved that after months of back and forth with my health insurance, they have finally given me the all clear and I have a date on the books! I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous, getting surgery of any kind done is always scary! (I mean who likes anesthesia!?) But I at least feel good knowing that this will be a wonderful tool in my weight loss arsenal. I have never been an average sized adult so I am not even going to know what to do with myself!!! Walk in Target and buy clothes off the rack? ME???

  3. It is 9 days since my RNY procedure. (A bit unusual because I had open surgery and also had a gastric band removed.) After the surgery? Well, it iwa a brutal surgery because they used a rib spreader to give maximum easy access, and an incision from rib center down to tummy button. The wound felt ok, but my chest felt like I had been kicked in the chest by a horse. (My family were bemused as I inadvertently txted them all that it felt like I had been licked in the chest by a horse, and they couldn’t understand if that was good or bad!) The joy of open surgery - no gas pain! Slept rest of day 1 and much of day 2. Self pump morphine allowed a dose every 5 mins, b…

Hi All: I am days away from surgery, on my preop diet and I went to the cardiologist today for clearance. Had my ekg. Then the doc came in and said that since I have diabetes and a family history of heart disease I had to have an echo cardiogram and a nuclear stress test on the tread mill. I must say I was surprised and a bit let down because I thought that this was the last thing I had to do before the surgery. I right out asked him if there was anything wrong and was told no, just my family history and diabetes. I do realize the he is probably just trying to take good care of me but..... Have any of you had to do this before the RNY? Have any of you had …

I had RNY on October 30 of this past year. I’ve shed a few pounds and am delighted with how things are going...however, my skin is in chaos. In the last week it has gotten so dry that I don’t know how to maintain it. Especially on my face. My whole face is peeling and tender. My skin feels dry and bumpy. Am I dehydrated? Anyone experience similar issues so soon after surgery?

  6. Has anyone suffered from depression after gastric bypass, not just sad about not being able to eat like I used too but depressed. I have been having insomnia too. I’ve read that tryptophan might help, I feel better after taking a lot more vitamin D beings I was deficient before my surgery. Has anyone suffered from this or tried tryptophan supplements? Any ideas ?

  7. I try my best to be vegan, but I am not 100% strict about it if I'm being truthful. Usually when I cheat it's with seafood (pescatarian diet). I am drinking Soylent shakes right now which are good, but I'm getting bored with them and am looking for some variety. I have lots of ideas for when I get to the stage where I can eat normal, but healthy, foods again, but I'm not sure about good protein sources prior to that, particularly the soft food stage. I would really love to know how other vegans ( and wannabe vegans) are handling post op. Thank you. Sent from my SM-N950U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Hello everyone. I had my RNY bypass on December 8th and I am feeling great and have lost almost 30lbs already [emoji15]. I was just curious if anyone else is or had experienced soreness on their left side near their large entry point for surgery. I know that this was going to be the longest to heal but I just wanted to see when it might go away. Sometimes the soreness goes to my back directly behind where it is sore on the front. It’s weird. Thanks for any responses.

As you can see from my profile, I've received a gastric sleeve nearly 6 months ago and have had great success. Unfortunately, my stomach has a leak, so most likely my sleeve will be converted to a bypass. I want to know from Bypass recipients, how long after surgery where you back doing normal activities? Began exercising?

Surgery request submitted Monday, approval received on Wednesday. Had to do psych, 3 nutritional visits and medical 2 Year history. Surprised and pleased at the quick process. On to the next step.

I did not have my bypass (12/27/17) as WLS. It was done to repair a hiatal hernia and severe GERD. In fact when the doctor got in there ⅓ of my stomach was in my chest cavity so they also had to repair my very torn diaphragm. I could not be happier that I had this procedure and (knock on wood), I am doing incredibly well. So well in fact that at my first appointment with my doctor (9 days post surgery), the doctor cleared me to eat all foods. No more stages. I have been still following the progression - just plan to speed it up. But looking for advice on what to try next. Have done cottage cheese. Have had some tilapia. If I progress to the soft foods stage in a couple …

I have cheated and maybe I should have not gotten this surgery bcuz I've already failed! I've had like 3 pieces of chips, drinking my soup with chicken and a lil potatoes. However, I didn't over do it. It's just to taste. Is have lost 21 lbs since my surgery date on 11/20/17 but still afraid that I'm not going to lose as much bcuz of these hunger craves. 18. Hi everyone, Just had surgery on the evening of December 29. My surgeon did a laparoscopic RNY and instead of stitches, he used surgical glue. They have been itching a bit and looking 'dry' but was just touching the one on my bellybutton lightly because it was itching in that area and the glue CRUMBLED and collapsed. I've had a history of MRSA from surgical wounds, two c-sections that turned into a NIGHTMARE. Any advice? I feel really like I shouldn't have touched it at all, and now very dumb!! I will call my surgeon on Monday. In the meantime, not sure what to do. I was concerned about scarring and infection, but my surgeon said just to take a showe…

I’m almost 10 months post op & lost 65 lbs from day of surgery. Some people say I’m getting too skinny (I’m 5’0” & at 130 lbs now). I hate people giving me their opinions about MY body. Frankly, I still feel like I’m that fat girl. I’m so grateful that I lost the weight fast. But prior to my sleeve, I was always put down for my weight. I don’t think those “scars” go away so quickly. People will always have their stupid opinions, but I haven’t “healed” from the negativity I endured over the several years I was obese. My mind hasn’t fully accepted I lost the weight. My mind still sees a fat girl when I look in the mirror. I know I can’t be the only one that feels th…

Hi everyone, I couldn’t be more pleased with the way surgery went! Surgeon said everything went by the book. I stayed a day longer than I thought I’d have to, but it worked out ok. The pain from surgery was the gas they pump you full of settled in my upper back. I’m not going to lie, it was pretty miserable! However, it only lasted about a day and a half. I’m not having any trouble getting enough fluids. I’ll be on clear liquids till next Saturday. I haven’t been taking anything for pain because I don’t have any. Obviously the incisions are slightly tender. One is right under my bra, ouch! So far so good! I am hungrier than I thought I’d be, but, I’m just glad I’m not nau…

I am 6 days post op from RNY. I tried last night and the night before to take my normal RX Ambien to get a good night sleep. Both nights I was stunned to wake up only 90 minutes - two hours after I took my pill....wide awake and unable to go back to sleep. Has this happened to anyone else? I had made the wrong assumption that since it would not need to go through my old huge stomach for a long time, that it may work faster...and possibly be too strong now and that I would have to cut the dose in half. Now I'm wondering if it's the opposite...goes straight from the pouch to the small intestine and never gets in my blood system?? Is that possible??

I am currently 3 months post op and living with a stricture. Right now I have been on liquids for the past week because my stricture seems to have swollen up almost over night. It’s too early for another dilation. My last dilation was on the 5th. I’m so exhausted all the time and even having trouble with liquids backing up into my esophagus. I will be traveling to Mexico from Arizona to have surgery in February. I am still undecided on the sleeve vs bypass. My BMI is 40, and I am close to 100lbs overweight. I realize that this surgery isn't a fix, but a key to enter a new life. I am 37 years old, and was skinny most of my life. At 20 I had my daughter, and struggled with my weight since. In 2002, I lost close to 100lbs (around 80ish or so) and kept it all off until 2009. In 2009 I gained a good majority of it back (about 70lbs), and then I lost it again (around 50ish lbs). I don't know if anyone else has had this happen, but I feel like I get hungry sometimes. I know we are supposed to, but I think I was getting used to not feeling hunger at all in the first month or so. I am eight weeks out, on Stage IV. I can't eat much in the way of solids without getting full really fast. But then I feel hungry later. I'm trying to keep water and food seperated, chewing 20 times, taking my time with eating - any other suggestions? Maybe I thought the 'no hunger' phase would last longer and it's disappointing. But then if I try to eat more, I can't. Anyone else?
