I am 7 months out, have lost 73 lbs from my highest weight, but have been stalled for 4 months. Lost 63 lbs the first 3 months and only 10 lbs the last 4 months. While my tolerance to foods got better I didn't think I was doing that bad until I started logging everything down again. From that I realized that I picked up so many bad habits again. And also my portions have gotten way larger then they should ever be. For a little while I was so disappointed in myself. I did all this work to get the surgery only to slowly slip back into horrible habits. I tried to ignore it and make excuses but I have finally come to terms that I have fallen off the wagon completely…

I'm 56 years old, and had my bypass on Sept 19, 2017. So far, I've recovered fine and am losing weight, and am happy with my results. I've had arthritis in my SI (sacro-iliac) joints for a number of years, and in the last 2-3 years, one side has become particularly painful. Before surgery, I relied on NSAIDS for inflammation relief and pain control, but now NSAIDS are off the list, and I'm having a hard time controlling that pain. What are some of you doing for inflammation and pain in a post-bypass world?

Ok sooooo 12/22 makes my year surgiversary!!! My start weight was 345 and I’m currently at 188!! 157 lbs gone in less than a year! Ok so reason why I’m scared is because I am about a year out and can obviously eat more and although I stopped eating bread pasta and rice. This Halloween has tested me. Chocolate is my HUGE weakness and I had a small piece which I didn’t dump to and now I’m scared that i will continue to make a habit of this and think a piece every now and then isn’t going to hurt me and eventually gain weight. I’m comfortable where I’m at and happy with the progress I’ve made so far. Any advice on how to stop killer cravings or head hunger/temptations? I eat…

My surgery is this week and I'm extremely excited and nervous. Partially because I am stressing on what I will need after surgery that might be out of the ordinary. What did others bring or have to do after surgery. Also I'm still looking for the best place to get all the vitamins. Any suggestions on that would also be amazing. Good luck to any other December surgery patients WE GOT THIS!

Hello, My surgery is scheduled for 11/27; I am currently on the 2 week pre-op diet. I am 5'3" and weigh 254; during this whole process, I found out "mild fatty infiltration". I meet with the surgeon earlier this week and he informed me that if they find my liver is too fatty and in the way, then they may not be able to do the bypass and may have to go the sleeve route. I really want the bypass not the sleeve so Just wondering if anyone ran into this issue and if they had to have a sleeve rather than a bypass. Thanks for reading.

In the beginning I didn't really have any particular goals as I wasn't really sure what to expect. As I have gone along I have celebrated little milestones as they come up. For Eg I was able to buy underwear from a regular store instead of paying a fortune online. I went to a friends house where I previously struggled with her toilet but this time I fit easily. Fit in chairs at venues. While shopping I can stand a bit longer walk a bit further. Lots of little things along the way not just the scales. My story so far RNY Aug 10th 17 HW 407lbs Pre surgery weight 367lbs CW 257lbs so a loss of 110lbs in 15 weeks. I'm really happy with that! My current mini goal is to be 220lb…

I’m super excited that I got my surgery date today! Saw my surgeon last week on Wednesday the 18th, at that time he submitted my paperwork to the insurance company for approval. I was anxious all weekend and expected to hear something by Tuesday, so when I got up and made some phone calls this morning. My first call was to the insurance company and was delighted to find out that they had approved me and had already sent the approval over to my doc. So, immediately I got back on the phone and called over to the Drs office and they set me up with a date for November 7th. It just seems so surreal!!

I got my surgery on 11/20/17 and I stay hungry. I have lost weight from surgery day, 280, to now 261. I'm afraid that once I can eat "anything" I'll regain my weight. Because we have deprived our self in the beginning due to the surgery and food restrictions, I feel that I can possibly gain it. I'm now at my puree/soft foods but I feel that I'm eating more soft food as opposed to puree. I'm not even having an issue on eating the food or "full", I'm ok with the 2 Oz. Is anyone else been thru this? I need more guidance. Thank you.

Sup all...I currently pre-op working through my checklist of all the medical test and screenings. I am shooting to get a surgery date in April/May. I see there hasn't been any post in this area in a long time. Hopefully I can connect with patients in my age group, but Any age is welcome though. Holla if you want. In the meantime, I will keep checking out post in other areas.

Thought my pouch wasn’t working Post-Op. Seriously thought of calling my surgeon, but alas the patience is paying off. My pouch does work. Here’s the breakdown week1-week 5 post op rny. (242lbs highest wt. and surg day was 227lbs after liquid diet (started using NO SODIUM BROTHS & it flew off then) Week 1-2 no hunger. Week 3 felt hunger again but it was satisfied very easily with tiny portions of Puréeds(1/4 cup). Week 4 had a little more hunger and needed more to satisfy at times 1/4-1/2 cup Puréeds. On week 5 (mech soft diet starting now) & not hungry at all again. Forgotten to eat 3 times already, so this week is different. The weights …

So I started looking into WLS about a year and a half ago. I started out with one doctor and then our insurance changed and it delayed me significantly. In the meantime, I had a slew of health problems. I'm finally ready to take charge of my life again. I found out through insurance that I have to go to a Center for Excellence (COE) A.K.A. Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery . The closest one for me is 3 hours away (without traffic). By happenstance I know someone who lives near the closest COE and used a surgeon with great luck. It was a no brainer to pick her surgeon instead of finding one at random. Long story short, I have been and will be traveling back and…

After months of googling information, I finally decided to join this forum [emoji847]. I am soooooooooo excited but very nervous bout getting the gastric bypass. I have Anthem BSBC and it requires 6 months of consecutive weigh-in attempts with my PCP. I am nervous because last month I actually gained 5lbs. Although they said I did not have to lose any weight throughout those visits, I'm afraid that will give them a reason to deny me. Can someone with Anthem insurance let me know how long it took to receive an approval? Was the process smooth for you? My patient advocate said she would send the paper work in as soon as I get the last weight attempt sheet faxed over. I rea…

Another benefit of Bariatric Surgery. A new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report shows that 40 percent of all U.S. cancer diagnoses can now be linked to overweight and obesity. Out of all cancer diagnoses, nearly 55 percent of female cases and 24 percent of male cases were linked to overweight and obesity. These cases statistically affect older adults, mostly between the ages of 50 and 74-years-old. http://www.foxnews.com/health/2017/10/04/cdc-40-percent-cancers-linked-to-obesity-overweight.html

I just need to vent for a moment. Nearly everyone I've told about this surgery thinks they have some way to relate. What is it with people? If they've dieted, they think they know the same issues, or had another surgery, or ate baby food. Has anyone else had this? I'm glad I limited who I've told. This is annoying.[emoji36]

I had my RNY Gastric Bypass on November 14, 2016 and lost most of my weight in the first 9 months. I started this journey at a maximum weight of 360 pounds, and on my day of surgery, weighed 334 pounds and am down to 234 pounds. When I was released from the hospital after my Gastric Bypass, I wasn't sent home with instructions to stay on any PPIs or antacids, so since I was feeling great, I stopped taking my daily regimen of Pepcid. In February earlier this year (2017), I had a perforated intestine that nearly killed me (became septic) and was hospitalized for nearly a week after they repaired the hole in my intestines (near the pouch). I went through another treatment fo…

Needing your input for motivation please. Can a difference be seen yet? I truly am having a difficult time seeing a difference in myself & am wearing the same elastic yoga pants still. (I guess since we see ourselves every day in the mirror it might be tougher to spot the changes..?) I’ve read that this can be normal though. I see it clearly in others pics, but not mine & I think that’s so strange! So I’m really curious...is there a difference this early to anyone else? Does it show yet or too early..? I’m a stay at home mama for now so not getting out as much as in earlier years to be around many peeps, just my hubby who thankfully appears to notice some differen…

11 days to go until surgery and I am busy buying all my stuff now before I get to stressed. My Dr told me all the vitamins I need to take but then only gave me one resource for those vitamins when I went onto the website and loaded up the cart it was a bit over 200 for vitamins. Do any of you have brand suggestions or any other helpful hints. I know the 200 is actually spread out over a few months but I have to pay a pretty large payment to the hospital and any savings out of the gate would be so very helpful.

I'm very close to revising from band to bypass. I have polycystic kidney and liver disease, and I'm concerned that the surgery could (possibly) escalate issues with that disease. My kidney and liver function is normal, but even so, I have a 50/50 chance of needing dialysis and a transplant as I get older. I'm curious to know if anyone here has PKD and/or PLD and underwent a RNY. As of now, I only need to lose 40 pounds. But once the band comes out due to complications, I'm afraid that number will climb. Ugh.....so many things to consider!

According to researcher Vann Bennett, there might be genetic underpinnings to obesity. A deficiency in the ANK2 gene, which codes for chemical activity on cell membranes, has been shown to cause obesity in mice. Is there an analogous situation in humans, after all, some of us share the same ANK2 deficiency with our rodent friends? Consider the definition of metabolic syndrome (MS), which is not a disease, but a cluster of symptoms or findings. Metabolic syndrome is important to physicians because it is a risk factor associated with cardiovascular disease. Humans with metabolic syndrome have increased waist circumference, an elevated blood sugar (due to insulin res…

I’ll be 62 in March so first looked into the over 60 group on this app but there wasn’t much going on there and the posts were pretty old. So if I behave myself can I stay in this group?! I’m almost 9 years post-op. I had my RNY on 10/24/2008. Hey I was 51 then! The day before my surgery I weighed 243.6 pounds. I lost 110 and kept it all off for a few years until I started eating the wrong foods, grazing and drinking alcohol. It wasn’t long before I had gained back 60 pounds. I’ve gotten 10 pounds off but would like to lose maybe another 40. I’m coming to this app looking for support from people who understand the struggles with regain. Have any of you regained s…

I️ am 8 weeks post op RNY and I have had nothing but issues since surgery. I have had constant acid reflux and vomiting. This weekend I was rushed to the hospital with horrible vomiting and abdominal pain. That episode turned out to be cause by kidney stones but the weird thing is I was vomiting food from 9:30 pm the night before. Has anyone had major issues with their stomach emptying? I’ve only advanced to puréed foods no further and keep getting put back on liquids. I’m scheduled for an upper GI tomorrow but my surgeon just keeps telling me this will get better in 3-6 months. I’m absolutely miserable and I regret everything about this surgery. Any advice would be we…

Hi there! Scheduled for revision from sleeve to RNY due to severe GERD. I've been vegan since October 16. I absolutely love plant based diet. Currently using Raw Fit Protein which is a vegan protein powder. It has 28 grams of protein and taste great. Looking to connect with a mentor or mentors that follow a plant based diet. Totally fine connecting with those that aren't as well.

I had lap-band surgery around ten years ago but it was put in wrong and has caused some issues based on pieces coming off, etc. It was removed six days ago along with repair due to the parts floating around my body for who knows how long. My surgeon plans to do the RNY in about a month if all goes well. So that is my story, but I am concerned that losing the weight at this age may have heath ramifications and....well, I may look worse in the long run. I am concerned that my skin will hang from my body and I will lose hair and since I am 56 I may not bounce back at gracefully as those younger than I. I see many people having surgery to remove skin, arm lifts, face…

It looks like my insurance approved the band removal and bypass revision all in one shot. I'm already scheduled to have the band removed on 12/6, but now I'm considering the revision as well. I'm interested to hear other's recovery experience. I know everyone is different, but I'd like a general idea of how long it took before you were up and around; able to work, etc. I'm a self employed bookkeeper and January is my busiest month. I'm thinking......if I have the revision done sometime during the first two weeks in December, I'll be ready to hit the ground running (figuratively speaking) the first week of January. I work from my home office, so I don't need to…

So I had a consult with my surgeon today and he told me that most patients tend to go into a maintenance phase after 1 year (I'm 10 months post op and lost a bit over the weight that they expected). So I lost 70% of my excess weight, but I would like to loose a few more kg, I would actually like to loose at least 4 more kg (which is definitely possible before my 1 year mark) and my personal goal weight is actually still 14kg. What experience do you guys have with losing after 1 year? He also told me that most people tend to regain a few kg before going into maintenance (he told me that regaining 5kg would be normal for me). Also would like the hear some experiences on th…

6 weeks out today and I'm wondering if anyone has a feeling of "just drank too much liquids" with just one bite or one drink. I feel like I came in from working out and guzzled too much water. Keep in mind I am only eating / drinking 1-2 oz at a time. Too scared to take in more. Then within a short time I am very hungry again. Just not feeling satisfied. Hello all, I am very new. I have been reading a lot about bariatric surgery. I haven't gone to my first appt., it is tomorrow. I have read that a pro to the vertical sleeve is that it stops the hunger causing hormone. Does RNY do the same thing. It seems since it is left and reattached that the hormone would just run out into the intestine, but it would still be absorbed and cause hunger. This is one of the biggest questions I have on deciding which surgery.

Hi guys. Im about 2 months post op from gastric bypass and finding it SO difficult to get in my daily water requirements (64oz min). I've tried different water bottles, flavoring the water, ice in the water, no ice or flavor, everything, it seems! I'm just not that damn thirsty, lol! Plus, I can no longer chug water (u know, to just get those ounces in and over with) because anytime I take even 1 semi-big gulp, it fills my pouch so full that it takes like 5-10 minutes just to empty!! It's so uncomfortable. Even prior to surgery I never drank that much liquid in a given day. Heck, I really only drank when I was eating (and now that's against the rules, so can't do that an…

My spouse and I both got referrals for bariatric surgery within a month or so of one another ( I was first, then my spouse). We have worked through all the preliminary steps together and it's been a real comfort having someone I love and trust by my side for all the steps so far. I was looking forward to us doing this whole adventure together, getting healthy together and we had already talked about things we wanted to do once we got this weight off. Friday my spouse had a pre-surgery consult with the surgeon and the surgeon did not recommend any surgery options for my spouse due to smoking history and severe GERD. I am disappointed but I am still moving forward with my s…

Hello, I've never actually posted on here before this is my first post, and I'm coming here because I'm scared I'm eating or consuming too much. I haven't gained any weight or anything, so really I have no reason to be concerned but I guess it's just some late night anxiety? So a little about me: I'm 14 months post-op. I was 336 pounds when I started the surgery journey, 302 pounds on the day of surgery, I blew past my surgeons goal of about 220LB's, my own goal of 199LB's, and currently weigh 156 LB's. I'm 24 a 5ft 9inch male. What I currently eat and have been eating like on a typical day I'd say for about the last 6 months usually looks something like this: B…

Have any of you had neuropathy come on due to B12 deficiency? Started off with the top of my right foot feeling numb for a few weeks and i thought it was my new shoes. Then later i couldn’t bend my foot up and down as much as before. (This came on before my first chemo session, so it’s not related to that, which I had posted about separately.) I’m 6.5 months post gastric bypass and have lost 115 pounds. Too fast! I’ve read that if you lose it fast you can become deficient more easily. I see my gastric surgeon once a month and brought this up last week. He gave me a B12 shot and we will do more to try and reverse this, but I’m worried. I have to lift my foot when I walk s…

Curious, has anyone gotten a waiver on the 6 month nutritional requirement if you have a hiatal hernia and gerd? [For reference, I technically, I have 6 months done (6 months through former insurance, 10 months of weight watchers aug 2016 - may 2017), and doctors appts in aug, sept, oct, march, april where my weight was taken. Regardless, I am curious as my insurance said it might be possible to get a waiver for things like that.]
