After months of googling information, I finally decided to join this forum [emoji847]. I am soooooooooo excited but very nervous bout getting the gastric bypass. I have Anthem BSBC and it requires 6 months of consecutive weigh-in attempts with my PCP. I am nervous because last month I actually gained 5lbs. Although they said I did not have to lose any weight throughout those visits, I'm afraid that will give them a reason to deny me. Can someone with Anthem insurance let me know how long it took to receive an approval? Was the process smooth for you? My patient advocate said she would send the paper work in as soon as I get the last weight attempt sheet faxed over. I really want to get approved so I can go ahead and have the surgery in January.

OMG, I am having the same issue. I have insurance with UHC Oxford plan. I gained 7 pounds the first 3 months of my 6 month pre-op weight loss program, but on my last visit I was 5 pounds lighter. I'm praying I don't get denied because of the weight gain. My surgery date is 12/26.

My surgeon won’t give me a surgery date until I have received the approval. I’m praying it will be the first week in January!

I am in the same situation, are you in Indiana? I have Bcbs with HIP. I started in July and hope to be approved with surgery in January.

I’m not in Indiana but my company is based there. I’m actually in Tennessee

I also have Anthem BCBS and had to go through 6 months of doctor visits, 1 psych evaluation, a nutritionist visit, etc. I began my journey in May and met the surgeon yesterday as the final step and sign off. The Bariatric Coordinator submitted my paperwork for approval today and it came back approved today!! So it was an immediate turn around.

As for the weight gain, I lost about 8lbs and regained a few. I was still approved.

That was a great turnaround!!!! I think I’m more nervous at the fact that loosing weight wasn’t a requirement but because I did, that would cause them to deny me. Also my last visit is close to the holiday so I hope I get an approval same day like you did. Thanks for your response. Congrats on your journey and approval
