Hi everyone i have enjoyed reading so many posts, thought I should introduce myself. I got a band put in 2009, weight 260lbs. It worked pretty well, and I held a weight I was happy with, 175lbs, for some time. Then, a cancer diagnosis and imminent chemo led me to have it emptied. Ended up not having chemo, just surgery, so began the process of getting filled about three years ago. By this time I lived two hours away from my surgeon, by plane. So, after fill after fill he realised the port was broken and leaking - a faulty batch. Two years ago, port replacement. But I have never hit that ‘sweet spot’ again. I now have no restriction at all, but a fill lea…

I'm almost four months out and I've hit a plateu with my weight loss. I've only lost two pounds this past month. It's frustrating because I'm not doing anything different with my eating. Has anyone else had this issue and were you able to work through it? What helped you break through it?

So im in a bit of a mental pickle. I’m 31 years old and I have always been dealing with weight issues since a kid. I took the initiative to look into surgery at the beginning of the year after diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. After speaking to my surgeon we agreed that gastric bypass is the best option due to the diabetes and my BMI of 55. With just a few weeks to my surgery my husband has mentioned to me that he thinks I should get the sleeve and still get the same results. As from my surgeon and reading up on both surgeries the results of diabetes being gone are greater with the bypass. He’s afraid I’ll regret doing the bypass because I won’t be able to eat the same. But…

Hello everyone, first post here. I tend to type a lot, so I will try to be short. I'm 41 and I have had the band for almost 8 years. 293 surgery weight, got down to 220, back up to 290. I have had it unfilled for a long time. I am tired of the restriction (even unfilled) and it's not working with me so I want to get it out. I am thinking about the RNY but I have a lot of questions. I won't ask all of them now, but if there is a good FAQ or resource of common revision questions, I would be grateful for the link. My lap band failed me because I failed it. That's the honest truth. I don't like timing when I drink, and I eat a lot of pasta, so I drink as I eat. …

I’m so excited to be having my surgery on November 15. That’s only nine days away! I’m terrified of the actual surgery and also scared I️ won’t succeed. It’s crazy. This forum has been such a blessing for me, as I’ve met new people and have read many, many stories. I would love to also make a friend who lives close by! Do any of you live in the Seattle Washington area?

I'm 2 1/2 years post op and just hit 100 pounds of weight loss. It's been a long slow road but at least the scale has gone in the right direction. I still have 71 pounds to go. I'm wondering if anybody has some jumpstarting tips or even pearls of wisdom for me. I need to get some more of this weight off before I lose my mind. Thank you!

Hi, I need help picking the best vitamins pre and post op bypass surgery. I was told to stay away from sugar and sucralose, but every chewable I look at even the Fusion ones advertised on this Bariatric Pal app has sucralose in it. I'm worrying about the dumping syndrome. My surgery is scheduled for June 20/2017.

So I'm scheduled to have my revision on June 19th from the band to the gastric sleeve and I wanted to see if anybody traveled after they had theirs. I'm supposed to be flying out of town on June 26th for a family reunion and I guess I want to get a feel of how you guys felt after your surgery. I'm thinking I might be OK by then but I really have no idea so I would love to hear your stories please. Sent from my SM-G925P using BariatricPal mobile app

I know I am crazy, got a appointment with the Psycholigist next week. But it is really doing my head in. When I weighed 30kg/60lbs more I was much happier with my naked body and sex life. I love sex as much as I love food, but my love affair with food had to change or it was going to kill me so I got the bipass in Feb 2017 at the time I weighed 160kg and am 174cm/5’8” I was confident with both my naked body and my own sexiness. In fact one of my fears with the surgery (which btw want fantastically and highly recommend Mr A Cheng of Mater Brisbane to anyone) was I would loose weight and wouldn’t be as sexy any more. Yes crazy. But it seems that is exactly what has happened…

I had my RnY gastric bypass (revision from gastric band) on 20th October. I did a one month pre-op liquid diet during which I lost about 30 pounds and was 340 pounds on the day of surgery. Since then I’ve bounced around the 340 mark (341 today), with no significant weight loss. I’ve heard that the fluids from surgery can prevent weight loss immediately after surgery but I wasn’t expecting to stall for this long. I’m getting around 500 calories a day from a combination of protein shakes and soup. I have been coming close to my protein target, but my fluids are less good. Has anyone else experienced such a long stall so soon after surgery? Should I be concerned?

Hey y'all. I'm a new member and this is my first time posting here. It's been an incredibly long time since I talked to ANYONE who has had RNY, and I'm just trying to reach out and find others who maybe understand what I've been/am going through. I had my surgery when I was WAY too young. I was 23, and totally confused being healthy with being thin. About a year and a half into it I had lost about 150 pounds, but became severely depressed. Then that thing none of us thinks is going to happen to us happened to me--my mysterious food addiction transferred to opiates, then to alcohol, then to alcohol AND opiates, and unfortunately I made it all the way to meth, where I staye…

My sister had gastric bypass surgery 6 years ago. Over the last 6 years ago she has developed what appears to be bipolar, borderline personality disorder, dental problems, fibro, excessive drinking etc. I have moved over 1200 miles to try and help her. I am not sure she is not aware there is a problem or she is choosing not to talk about it afraid of what her family will think since she feels as if she has been judged her entire life by many. My sister is married to an absolutely amazing man who has taken care of her over the last 20 years. Everything was great until she had this surgery. Her husband and I have discussed a possible problem and this is one of the main reas…

I start soft foods on Thursday this week (I see Dr H on Wednesday, along with nutrionist. Recommendation is to get protein & calories from food. I really struggle right now to get to 700 calories in a day, even eating every few hours. Average about 50-60 grams of protein. Since soft food says do about 1/4C at a time of whatever you're eating (up to 3/4 C total), plus two snacks,, I'm rather at a loss as to what they mean as snacks. Soft food suggestions would be appreciated. I feel good, and have hit almost 30 lb loss, so not complaining just a bit at sea.

I'm ten months out. I've lost a total of 85 pounds. And I'm in the stage where I can tolerate more food and bad food. And I don't want to deprive myself so I binge and I don't mean eat til I'm sick but I eat way more than I should, instead of one cookie I eat 8. Instead of one small pick up I eat 3 mini size candy bars. This was an issue before surgery and it's returning partly due to stress on the job. I'm trying to find coping skills. Please tell me if you're experiencing this and how you're working through. I don't want to be a failure and I definitely don't want to regain. I don't need your judgement. I need encouragement, support, and advice. Sent from my SM-J700T1 …

Ok so tomorrows the big day for me & the last few days I've found myself, well.. to the point I am having a lot of (excess?) concern & questioning myself on surgery...can this sort of thinking be normal sometimes before a big surgery? I should point out, I've never been in surgery before, never been under general anesthesia before. Im really afraid of something going wrong. Maybe part of it comes from that-never having had any surgery experience. Nonetheless, wondering if anyone has gone through any similar sort of psychological thought process earring their surgery day. Am I feeling a NORMAL sense of fear & anxiety considering the extent of surgery which lay …

Hi all - My surgery was on July 25th and I've been doing great up until the last 2 or so weeks. I started feeling nauseated when eating, drinking and in between meals/snacks and at first I thought I was taking too big of bites or drinking too fast, so I tried to slow it down. It seemed better for just a bit but came back quickly. I then thought I caught a stomach bug of some sort but its been about 2 weeks now and only getting worse. I have also tried taking gas-x and again I thought it worked yesterday but has come back worse today. I feel sick when I eat anything or even drink water and also at night when I am sleeping, so I know I'm not getting enough fluids or prot…

Hello everyone. I need your help. I already had my surgery about 3 months ago and are feeling great at this point but, I have my wife who had hers about 3 1/2 weeks ago and she's still having a hard time. She's experiencing bad nausea, stomach discomfort and some vomiting. She's hardly eating anything because of how she's feeling. She has contacted her surgeon and he prescribed some nausea medication but, even with that she is feeling the same. She has an appointment set to see him next Monday. What I need help with is knowing if feeling this way is normal? I myself didn't go through that but, has anyone experienced this?

For those who use Patch MD patches, which ones do you use and when did you start using them after the surgery? I’m pre-op RNY right now (waiting on date any day now) and currently use multivitamin, biotin, and omega-3. The multivitamin alone has everything my surgeon suggests but I want to be thorough.

Hi all! I'm 45 days post op and I find my pouch confusing...I discovered ricotta bake when I first started puree foods. I ate it for dinner for days, and then one night two bites in I was in discomfort and it bounced right back out. Ricotta in general, tried it again on it's own. I was fine. Tried it another day and it bounced. Scrambled eggs, good one day, I'm throwing up the next. Same thing with tuna salad on Protein chips. So I'm wondering, for those who have experienced this, does it become more predictable? Is my body just weird :o)

Is been now 3 months post-op from sleeve to bypass and for the past week i been dealing with bad GERD.. feel like my throat is on fire and i have discomfort on the area just below my throat. Also when i swallow it feels like something is stuck. Dont know if this is just a temporary thing happening or something really of much concern. Contacted my surgeon but he is away for a week and will return the following week. I know bypass is supposed to make GERD much better to deal with but i am just concerned and frustrated with this uncomfortable feeling.. any help would be appreciated!!!

Hi folks, I want to know if anybody has a solution or timeline of where this will go away... I have spent the past week in pain and extreme nausea. Anytime I eat or drink I get nauseous. It does not matter what I do or how little I drink or eat. And it's a persistent bugger. And I have pain that my surgeon is just saying is incision pain because it's near the incision (upper right quadrant). I went to ER and the CT and Ultrasound were clear and the endoscopy was clear. I had zero issues with food in the first few weeks and now I literally cannot have it without wanting or actually vomiting (zofran has curbed some vomit spells). Is there any …

So i was approved for Gastric surgery, and right now i am in the process of being cleared by multiple specialist. I when to consult with a gastroenterologist, but he stated that he doesn't think i should go for the bypass, and should op for the sleeve because the complications of the duodenum switch. He just felt like i would just do great with a sleeve. I initially wanted the bypass because my BMI is 42.4, and i know you lose more with the bypass, and that was his other proposal because he said losing so much weight in a short period of time is not good and the bypass has been proven to do just that. I'm stuck. He's advising against it and told me to not let anyone push …

I've had pretty steady loss since my 10/5 sleeve, although getting enough water & protein in a day is still very hard some days. The= I'll have a day where I'm up 1/2 - 1 lbs. Is this the body trying to find its equilibrium from losing steadily? Is there something I should be doing that I'm missing? I could understand "flat", but gaining seems kind of weird. Any great things that have worked for you?
