I am in my fifth year since the weight loss surgery. As of today; 25lbs gained and very depressed about it. I don't eat a lot because most foods make me feel like I need to vomit, so I drink a glass of red Wine or a ginger ale. I purchased the 5 day Pouch book and plan to start officially tomorrow. However need the accountability for to be successful. HELP with ideas to stay on track to loss this weight. I know it's doable, but having support makes it easier. Has anyone experienced gaining weight from drinking red wine or ginger ale?

Hi there...a week shy of 5 months post op RNY....down almost 80lbs. I will admit I am not taking my vitamins, water or protein like I should. I know...what a dumb f**k I am. I know. But I have started to take my liquid vitamins and my protein but did bad with water this week leading me to be SO constipated from Monday to today. All in all everything cleared out and I thought I was okay but the last couple of days I've been feeli my a sort of nauseas feeling and almost like indigestion but not fully since RNY...almost like a thick grease feeling in my throat. This is after I made and had about 3 oz of home made pulled pork. Since I am losing regularly I've been eating a ke…

Hi there! I need advise on what to tell my doctor, if I need to call him. So I'm 70lbs down, 55 from surgery which was April 5th 2017...3.5 months ago. Everything has been great, I can eat meat and veggies and usually have no problem unless I eat too fast or drink water too soon which has only been a couple of times. I've inky been bad with my vitamins and water which I know is major, but I am trying very hard to get my **** together when it comes to that. I haven't been to a check up with my surgeon since May. Problem: I had my period this week and with that I get bloat, cramps, gas and constipation- it's real fun! Not lol. On Friday or Saturday I noticed my tummy kind…

Hello. I have severe Gerd. My EGD today showed hiatal hernia, gastritis and esophagitis. My doctor has already mentioned converting to bypass as a solution. I'm willing to do anything at this point, and want the pain gone yesterday. The nighttime episodes of asperating acid is scaring me. For those that have converted from the sleeve, did they make you go through another 6 months of classes? Thank you for any information. Debbie

I've been struggling financially and emotionally for about a week or 2 now.. I gave in today and ate a fun size pack of m&ms and I ate maybe 10 French fries that my friend left behind at my house today... Food has always been my coping skill.. so, my question is.. how do you cope with this kind of stuff now? Thanks.

I had RNY on 8/21. I am recovering well and sticking to the recommended foods. I have lost 20 lbs and definitely inches that are noticeable already. But the scale hasn't budged in a week. Is that normal so early on?

I'm confused about vitamins. My instructions say I will need to take a multivitamin or children's chewable vitamin, twice per day, 200% DV. Does that mean 2 vitamins that are 100% DV each and that EQUALS 200% DV or each one should be 200% with a DV total of 400%? What vitamins do others recommend? I'm thinking chewables would be best for me but I'm open to suggestions.

I will transition to solids finally tomorrow and dont know if that will help with the weight gain. I was doing fine while on liquids and for the majority of pureed. Just feel bloated and my chest feels very tendered which dont know if that is something normal for men. Thank you..

Hi my name is Amber. I'm 43 years old, no kids (I do have 2 fur babies though), and widowed. I've been to hell and back in the past 3 years, and I've suffered a lot of loses. I'm trying to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and find me again. I had RNY surgery on 8/30 (which was also the 3 year anniversary of my husband's passing), so I'm 8 days out and done really well up till now. I seem to have hit a wall, just the thought of drinking another shake makes me ill. I'm not getting nearly enough liquids down to do any good, and I don't know what to do. I'm afraid that I'm going to get sick, or fail!!! Any help, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Se…

Hey all, I am 24 yo from Australia. I'm also new here. My surgery is set for 24 November. Im Super excited, it's been a long three years I've been preparing for it, financially (as I am self-financing) and equipping myself with as much knowledge about it wls, particularly gastric bypass. I know support is important. I hope to make good friendships here as this can be a lonely journey especially if you don't have people around who understand what you are going through. So I had surgery on August 2nd and I have had a very hard recovery. I have no appetite because everytime i just take a sip of something or a bite I want to vomit. I went back to work 3 weeks after surgery and was ok for a little bit but this week Ive had to call out because the last couple of days I would go to work and then as soon as I got to work I almost had an asthma atack. I have lost a lot of weight but Im getting really depressed. My nutritionist told me to force my self to eat but I cant find the strength to do it. My surgeons nurse told me to go to the ER for the breathing, but when I went 1 week post op when I was having problems they did every test and just to…

Hello everybody, My wife is having surgery next month and to help support her I've been looking for any resources geared towards the partners of Gastric Bypass surgery patients but sadly I found very little. We all know that the rate of divorce after weight loss surgery is statistically high and I think that is quite sad. So I've decided to start a blog to recount my own experiences as my wife and I go forward towards and after the surgery. The blog is anonymous as requested by my wife though she totally supports the endeavor, she knows that some people can be very judgemental regarding weight loss surgery. Anyway if you'd like to take a look at m…

I used to binge eat a lot before my bypass. I hadn't struggled with that since the surgery, but 5 months out it is rearing its ugly head. All afternoon I wanted a sheet cake, a whole sheet cake. For about 3 hours I was back and forth on whether I was going to resist the impulse to stop and get a cake on my way home. I got up from my computer, went for a walk and ran through a short meditation session. It helped, but urge was still there, just looking for the zoned out feeling I used to get when i binged. I've been working with a therapist and i kept hearing her voice in my head. Do you really want it? Don't deprive, but listen to your body, not your mind. I was hungr…

Good Afternoon All, I'm just plain nervous. I'm trying to keep busy but it isn't working. Although this groups is a life saver. I am trying to get all my house in order but my husband keeps making a mess. So I've decided just to keep my areas clean so I will do well after surgery. I am worried about infections because I have gotten them before, but I feel that this time I will be okay. Thinking about the changes in my life ahead is daunting at times. On the other hand, it seems exciting to be starting over so to speak. Thanks for reading.

Besides @Diva Taunia and Minnie Me In TN, does anyone here have a YouTube channel or know of some RNY peeps who have one? I love watching all WLS-related videos but would love more pre- and post-op content for the RNY specifically. I'm thinking of doing some videos of my own, my husband is wanting to start a YT channel for himself so it could be a fun project we work on together! And I feel like a lot of people getting RNY feel alone due to the popularity of VSG. So I'm just wondering who else is out there on YouTube!

In 2 days i will be entering solids stage. What is there to expect now in this stage? Any advise is appreciated. Nervous about it because i dont know how my body will react or how i am going to feel when i eat or how full will i be getting? Right now i can easily tolerate almost 6oz of pureed foods which i dont know if its normal or not. Also will the weight loss start again now on solids as it has stalled a bit under the pureed stage.

I have lost almost 90 pounds and I am thrilled with the way I look, the issue is I think I am going crazy. I am yelling and angry all the time. I have no patience with people, especially my husband and daughter. I have so much rage inside of me and I never was like this before the weight lose. I was the jolly, happy person, or was I? I think I mask a lot of my feeling through food, but now that I am not eating is the real me shining through? I hope not, because I do not like the new me inside, but love the person I see on the outside. I need help and do not know if this is normal or just me? Any advice would be appreciated.

I am currently supposed to stick to 4 oz of food at each meal.. this has been the hardest.. we do have local support groups, but I work on the nights that they meet.. so I'm reaching out to you guys! So I was advised to have gastric bypass to help with all the health issues I weigh 195. I did not qualify for gastric bypass for weight. I qualified for health reasons it would help with the fatty liver, diabetes, sleep apnea, Gerd high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sciatica, leaky bladder and I have ankylosing spondylitis. I was told I really needed this surgery, it would add years to my life. I was even fast tracked. My consultation was the first week in October and today was my surgery January 10. During surgery they discovered that my stomach had so many adhesion that they have adhered to my intestines that it was unsafe to do the surgery. I have not had a chance t…

I believe our collective wisdom can be priceless and because of that I would like to ask for your opinions/advice. I have been a successful RNY patient and educator/ support group leader for many years. I am 5'4 and started at 302 lbs and have lost 164 lbs and maintained. The only issue I have dealt with is constipation from time to time. My gallbladder was removed prior to RNY but I have had no other abdominal surgeries. My labs have been excellent and I'm very disciplined with my food and vitamins. Phew! About 60 days ago I started to experience nausea, abdominal pain, and long periods of constipation. I also had to change my diet to solely liquids and puréed foods. So…

In one week, I'm having surgery. I have a sleeve, currently, and need to treat a rare condition called achalasia. So, to reduce complications from a myotomy, I am revising my sleeve to a modified gastric bypass. I'm getting a second chance at losing all the weight that I needed to lose from my sleeve. I was originally over 460 lbs (not by much, but that's as high as my doctors scale went at the time). I had my sleeve, lost about 150lbs and then got pregnant. I gained back, in total, about 70lbs in a year and a half of being pregnant and post partum. Then I got back on track. I was heading in the right direction until this achalasia started about a year ago. The cond…

I'm post-op day 8 and am doing well, but feeling extremely fatigued. Everything takes effort. I had to take a break while putting sheets on the bed earlier today! I'm getting in 65-80g of protein each day, 50-70 oz of fluids and taking my multivitamins. I've been able to do this for the past 4 days and I'm not physically hungry. I will note that I'm now starting week 4 of the full liquid diet (had to do it 2 weeks pre-op as well). While keeping track of my protein and fluid intake (via My Fitness Pal), I've noticed that I'm only getting 550-700 calories per day - and that's even counting my 3 calcium citrate chews! I can't help but wonder if the low calorie intake is wha…

A very large international study, the Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiology (PURE) study included over 135,000 people from 18 countries in North and South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. As is usually the case with this type of epidemiological study, various aspects of the results were reported and published separately, although the reports were based on the same data. One report on fruit, vegetable and legume intake and their association with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and death, was published in The Lancet, as was the second report, linking dietary nutrients, i.e. carbohydrates, proteins and fats, with those outcomes. The first report on fruit, veggie and legu…

(I accidentally posted this question to the wrong board--it should have been here, not in the complications board! Derp!) Hi guys. Can you help me brainstorm a medication "hack" please? I need to try to maximize the amount of time in my potential new "tummy." I know when we have RNY our "tummys" are MUCH smaller and we also have shorter duodenums. I'm taking an anti-cancer drug that is highly dissolvable/highly permeable (BCS Class 1) and is very quickly absorbed in the tummy and intestines, but it is a fat soluble drug rather than a Water absorbable drug. I know it isn't dependent on the pH environment for absorption. So my goal would be to get my dru…

HI everyone. I had a Lap band to a Mini Bypass revision on July 5th. So far. I have lost 23 pounds, but somehow I keep feeling that it should be a bit more. after some difficulty in the first two months with my eating. With a lot of food rejection, I now feel that I can eat quite well. I can eat a small size of fish, or one whole very well cooked and soft chicken thigh. I avoid carbohydrates to maybe one dry diet cracker in the morning with cottage and s bit at lunch (at the most have half a potato or a spoonful of carrots or zucchini with the protein) and concentrate on the protein. I walk a lot on my job (I am a tour guide) sometimes for two whole hours.. I try to drink…

Hi all, I had my first consultation with my surgeon last week and he recommended that I should get the mini gastric bypass. I must admit my heart is rather set on the general gastric bypass. It is a rather specialised area and not so common. I've never had weight loss surgery before but I've noticed from my research thus far, that many have transitioned from another weight-loss surgery to the mini gastric bypass(MGB). Anyone here had the MGB? And if so, what has been your experience? Sent from my SM-G935F using BariatricPal mobile app

So I have only told a couple people about going through this process immediate family and few close friends, and I feel like ever since I told my girlfriend she has been acting different. When I told her she said she was jealous of me, and now when I bring it up she doesn't really say anything I was hoping for a little support from her. So now I don't want to tell my other bf bc she has made comments about her cousin who has had the surgery like "look at her Fb she posts all these photos of herself in skimpy clothes... she did it the easy way" I think she says it out of jealousy... so now I'm afraid to tell her this exciting news. Is it wrong to let her think I've lost t…

I would never have considered this surgery until I was told it was the only fix for my hiatal hernia. I have many mixed feelings about it. 98% of my stomach is up in my chest area and it's all twisted up. It can be very painful. I've been told that the twisting can shut off blood flow and cause death so it doesn't seem like there's much of a choice. Almost 2 years ago I had breast cancer. During my treatment I lost 45 lbs. once treatment was over and I could eat again, the weight came back fast. The doctors say my stomach pushed upward from the pressure of the weight gain. I'm hoping for my surgery before Nov 1st because of insurance/financial issues. I'm nervous and a …

Hi everyone. I'm 17 days out from RNY and I'm feeling some pretty intense pain since yesterday after I bent over and felt it for the first time. Its s sharp, stabbing pain, so bad that I can't stand upright. It's not bad when I'm sitting, and I can ease the pain by holding my belly when I walk. I've been reading a lot about it, and sounds like it's a pain caused by a stitch that's pulling or some scar tissue that a may have torn a little. Doc said it's normal and will go away eventually. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this before and how long did it last?? Thanks in advance.

Wow. So I'm 6 weeks out and grilled some killer baby back ribs thinking that because they are soft I would be okay... WRONG. Not more than 5 bites into it I start feeling sick. Then the terrible pain starts. So I'm outside waiting for the inevitable and here it comes. Barfed and dry heaved a few times and then proceeded to go back inside and barf another 3 times. I thought I was in the clear from dumping but apparently not so be careful and once it happens you will pray it never happens again LoL.

Hi peeps, I had sx on 8/9. Was back for readmission last week bc of dehydration. At first my weight loss was slow. Now it seems to be about a pound a day (or more). But I feel it's all muscle that I'm losing, not fat, and I'm worried. I'm definitely NOT getting in all my fluids or protein- maybe 40ish grams of protein and 32 oz liquids. I'm also exhausted and dizzy. I can't eat/drink anything with artificial sweeteners/flavors since they make me sick. I'm also a vegetarian. Last week while inpatient my labs showed I was in ketosis. Now I'm on phase 2, so full liquids and purees. Still getting in a protein shake each day, plus eggs, and some carbs like potatoes and sweet…
