  1. Started by lauratro,

I am just about 3 weeks post op gastric bypass and looking for more ideas of pureed foods. I am so tired of eggs, refried beans and yogurt. I'm going to try the ricotta bake and smoothies tomorrow, but still need a few ideas to keep it interesting. Can't tolerate tofu or fat free gravy and not allowed to have meat yet. Thanks in advance Sent from my SM-G935T using BariatricPal mobile app

Good Morning Group, My name is DeeDee and I am on my 2 1/2 - 3 week post-op Gastric Bypass journey. During my journey so far I have endure many different feelings and I wanted to know if anyone out there has been through the same or similar? Some days I feel I have made the right decision for my health and life, on other days I feel like I made a mistake. I think I feel like this because of the struggles each day to abide by the restrictions that it takes to maintain my health goals. I just have a fear that I may not being doing enough since being home. I see my surgeon and nutritionist in two days for my follow-up. Some days I am happy and others I cry when it seem…

  6. I am currently halfway through the process on my way to RNY surgery, hoping for an October 2017 surgery date! So far the only people who know are my husband and sister because both are very supportive. My goal is to never tell my in-laws and some friends that I am having/had surgery. Not because I'm embarrassed but some of them are very judgmental and have in the past even tried to sabotage my healthy eating and weight loss efforts. My one issue is that I do home daycare and take care of my sister in-laws girls (my nieces) so I have to take time off for this and I'm not sure what to say as far as taking so much time off. Also how do you handle family get together after s…

I am a week post up, and don't feel either hungry or full. I'm just eating something every 2 to 3 hours. Since I don't feel full, I just make sure I pay attention to quantity and don't over-eat. Is this normal? If so, when do people get these sensors back? I've had zero issues so far!

Hello all, I was just wondering... How long after surgery were you able to meet your protein requirements? I am now two months post op and allowed to eat anything but I know, even without restrictions, my protein intake is nowhere near where it needs to be. I know the importance of it, and I think I may be getting 40-50g in a good day but I am still not able to eat much (maybe 1/2cup of food per meal, maybe 3/4 if it's something light like a salad)... So, how long did it take you to be able to eat all your protein from food only without having to supplement? I cannot stomach protein shakes anymore. The smell alone makes me gag so that's out of the questi…

  13. My surgeon told me that I could not have a sleeve due to having hiatal hernia surgery a few years ago. I need to have the bypass. Along with the bypass, he must revise the previous HH surgery. Has anyone had this done? Was it considered more risky? Were there more complications? I'm more anxious than I already was just having the sleeve.

I have lost 55lbs over the last 7 weeks and my starting weight was 310. I do have the implanon in my arm. Any suggestions and or anyone else experience this?

  17. HI everyone. I had my Lapband to mini gastric bypass revision on July 5th. So far I am feeling fine with my weight loss of 23 pounds so far, considering it is a revision. And my age of 61 both me and my nutritionist and doc think it is pretty good. My problem is that I am throwing up a lot. Almost after every meal, specially if it has meat in it. I really try to chew slowly and a lot, stop after 3-4 spoons and choose my food very carefully, and still it happens. On rare occasions it stays in. I am worried! Also having great difficulty drinking all the liquids recommended... What does go down really well is natural coconut water, which I drink a lot of. As food. One egg…

  20. My surgeons team says to eat for 20 minutes. I cannot always practice mindful eating, where I am ONLY eating and doing nothing else. I work and type or get up and down for my kids, while eating. Taking dime size bites (sometimes I take a little larger bites without problem), if I only spent 20 minutes eating, I'd only eat an ounce of food. If I get distracted, I may go 25-30 minutes with a meal. What is your ritual? How long are the meals where you are eating? And what size bites do you take? I'm a little over a month out.

Although I have decided to do this (the gastric bypass) for the weight loss also, which I have suffered since I was 6yrs. old, my main reason is my health and my family. Yes, I look forward to the day I might be able to wear shorts for the first time in my life. However, I also look forward to the day I'm not constantly stressing about my diabetes. For a year now my sugar levels have through the roof and uncontrollable. Last Christmas and in June again I got the biggest scare of my life when my meter wasn't even reading my sugar levels. I am now on insulin and not even that is working. I chose to go on a liquid protein diet last week and I don't even have a surgeon picked…

I have a question about how others are making sure that they are meeting the requirements for protein intake. How are you doing this? I eat so little and am starting to get worried about how I can make sure I get enough protein daily. Just an FYI, I take medications for mental health that make me not hungry at all, so that also cut down on the amount of food I intake.

So I had RNY 11-29-2016. I know its been a while but I'm still going through the dumping often caused by things that I can eat just fine the day before. My dumping is very hit or miss and often im really unsure of what is causing it as I eat the same things. One week I can eat tuna for 4 days straight with no issues and sometimes I eat a few bites and I dump for hours. Long story short this has caused me to miss time at work as I work the front desk at a busy medical office. unfortunately my employer is now threatening my job even though I have not used any leave without pay. Hi everyone! I was sleeved 9/26/2016. I'm down a bit over 90lbs. My husband was sleeved 4/14/2017 and is down 60lbs. We have two children, a 13yr old daughter (5'5",230lbs), and a 10 yr old son (athletic, but chubby). As you all know, 13 is a formative /tender age in a young girls life. I have a good relationship with her, been very open about why I had surgery etc. And she's been fantastic about supporting me in all the changes I'm still striving to make. We've had a few touchy points lately. The first is when it became evident that I couldn't shop and try on clothes with her at lane Bryant or Avenue, and almost torrid now. The most recent is when we went to six flags…

Hello all! Just a question for all the vets out there, just trying to determine if what I am "feeling" is actually ketosis? This happened during pre-op, and immediately after the surgery. Then it stopped during my stall, and now that I am out of the stall it started again. My symptoms...It feels like I have the constant taste of alcohol in my mouth, almost like a burning sensation. It doesn't seem to be coming from my mouth per se, but more from like the inside of my body and my mouth is acting like an exhaust system for the vapors (not a very good description, but the best I could come up with, sorry). It's like...like I am doing gargles with vodka all day long!!! I…

I had my sleeve surgery in December 2015, we have a wonderful, active, supportive, and SECRET Facebook group that I still turn to regularly. I've lost a lot more weight than anyone expected, currently about 113lbs. After having reflux issues, it was discovered that my stomach is twisted, with similar results to a stricture. My surgeon has recommended I have a gastric bypass, which is booked for August 18th. I can't remember much about the recovery from the previous surgery, my surgeon said it will be easier this time because I'm at a normal BMI and much fitter. I'm mostly worried about the recovery, plus doing the liquid diet again will suck! Just wanted to reach out to m…

I had my band removed 2 weeks ago and had to pay for it myself due to insurance wording of their policies!! I have went over and over again in my piles of literature for the Lap band and this is NOT listed as a side effect or potential risk. If u have had this happen to u please email me with your story. Gastric bypass will be needed to help reduce my risk of further damage or development.

During emails he has suggested I may be better with the gastric bypass rather than sleeve due to having a lap band that had to be removed ( nothing to do with band complication of other surgery ) He said the bypass works much better after the sleeve but I'm worried it's a more complicated operation and with a bmi of 31 is it necessary to go for the bypass ? What would you do ?
