I'm worried about my pre op test I haven't been approved for surgery yet but I did reach out to my PCP to check my levels now so he can make changes to my medication if necessary to prepare me for surgery. Any advice for me should I worry? The last time I did blood work the only concern my doctor had was my blood sugar.

Officially 1 week post-op....everyday is a climb towards success...yes the first week was rough, painful, and making myself doubt the decision I had made regarding this WLS journey...one week later, pain has subsided, days are now easier, and that dark cloud of doubt has turned into a beautiful rainbow of positive feelings, get up and go's and wishing I had done this before that stupid lap band I had implanted 4 years ago...so ask me again, do I regret and doubt what I have done to live a longer, healthier, positive lifestyle? Hell to the No! Food is now SECOND in my life, not first...It's about ME now, and I'm finally in first place and plan on staying there forever! Joi…

I'm 3 weeks out and was so excited that I hadn't experienced buyers remorse... yet. Everything was smooth and weight was coming off. THEN it hit. The traditional woman's "week before" cravings hit and so did the buyers remorse. I miss taking real bites of food and enjoying feeling full to my soul. Warm gooey food. This new full feeling is all wrong. It doesn't give leeway. One bite too much turns into horror. It's painful, burns, and just plain sucks. My head hunger this week has been worse than ever and it is mixing with my real hunger to make it hard to tell which is which. I've over done myself more yesterday and today and have thrown up 4 times by necessity. It's lik…

Hi! Can anyone who has had band to bypass give an insight into how your weight loss is going? I know it's gonna be a little slower but I never really lost weight with the band (long story), so I don't know what the expectations are. Thank you!

2mo out, the progress feels slow, but there have been many wins along the way. I was able to fit into an airline seat without an extreme. I'm learning to eat again, in a good way this time. Everything has gone wonderfully so far and hope to keep it going. To anyone having doubts, I have absolutely no regrets. This is a wonderful tool! HW 310 pants 22 SW 299 CW 264 pants 18 GW 170

Since my surgery last Thursday I have had problems with constipation that were causing lots of pain so I followed my doctor's advise and used Miralax. I finally had a bowel movement this morning but now I have pain from that since my gut is so sensitive. I am currently laying in the couch, about to cry and feeling so guilty because it's been 4 days since I have been home and have not been able to meet one single goal of either protein or water or vitamins. I feel like such a failure

So I know I'm not the only one, but when I woke up from surgery the 1st thing I asked was "how did go? Am I all bypassed??" I wanted to hear it directly from my surgeon, as I thought " I only feel slight pain from incisions, they must have gone in and cancelled it for some reason." I've talked with nurses, anesthesiologist and everyone else that was in the OR with me and they all said it went perfectly!! I didn't see my Surgeon until this morning (day after surgery) and he caught me walking the halls and just laughed and said "well, you're up and smiling I guess you want to go home?" So I finally got to ask him face to face if everything went well and he said it went rea…

So, I'm six weeks post op. I'm wondering if it's normal for my hunger to be back so soon? It seems like as soon as I started taking meds for nausea, it started up. I've tried looking up the topic but I felt like nothing answered my question. Nothing is satisfying my hunger either, not even meat. I get hungry every half hour or hour. Sometimes less. I'm not drinking with my meals anymore. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or just not eating enough.... ---------------------------- HW- 273 Pre-op Wt- 230 SW- 226 CW- 197 GW- 130 Ht- 5'2.5" DOS- April 26th, 2017 "Only those who try will become." ~FFX

I am 9 days away from surgery and terrified/excited. I am currently doing the 2 week liquid diet. I am on day 6 I cheated last night and had a slice of pizza cause I had been awake for 48 hours and only having protein shakes and water and could barely stand or talk. I'm really worried maybe I screwed everything up. Other then last night I've been very good about my diet. I was told my doc is strict about the 14 days. But I can't afford to reschedule surgery since I already have someone flying in to take care of my kids while I recover. Did i totally screw everything up?

I flew for the first time since losing 145lbs. Going thru the full body scan it alerted to my stomach/groin area. I had to have a full pat down in that area. This is the area with the most lose and extra skin. My stomach hangs out like an over stuffed fanny pack. I didn't mind the pat down because I appreciate airport security when I'm going to be on a plane. So I'm just assuming my skin and fat in that area are the reason I was flagged both times. Anyone else experience this or other things at the airport and suspect it was your extra skin?

Has anyone has impacted stool? Yesterday morning I noticed that I was having trouble and that I hadn't really experienced anythikng like it before. I am 2 no the post op RNY and have suffered some constipation but for the most part have had regular am BM. I've had to to some unorthodox things to help with this situation and last night I drank some milk of magnesia to maybe help soften what was left. Well this morning I found myself batrlijng the softr stool that was stuck behind the hard stool. I'm scared, I don't want to injure myself but now whatever is left is causing some annoying discomfort. Help a girl out...the last thing I want is a rubber glove and a doctor [em…

Hi all- I've been lurking for a bit, but could use some advice on WLS and children. I'm almost half way through my 6-month requirement, but during my first visit with the surgeon I was throw for a curve. I went in expecting to discuss sleeve, but due to my issues with acid reflux that was tossed. I know it's the gold standard but I'm struggling with the malabsorption pieces, especially since I'd be looking to get pregnant shortly after I get the "ok." I'm curious for those starting or who have gone through the process. Would you wait (or have/did wait) to have WLS until after you've had children? Or do you go for it before? Full disclosure, we haven't started trying yet …

Researches in Australia (Dr. C. Westgarth from the University of Liverpol, Leahurst, Australia, and colleagues) looked at the relationship between owning a dog and the exercise one gets by walking a dog. What they found was “Forty-five percent of owners reported that their dog ‘very often (3+ per week)’ ‘encouraged them to walk’ in the past month and 66 % of owners reported that they agreed with the statement ‘Having my dog(s) makes me walk more’. “ They also found that "a number of factors could influence the likelihood of an owner walking his or her dog. The dog-related factors that significantly increased the probability of frequent walks was the size of the dog,…

so i had a bad day yesterday, I am on a liquid diet leading up to surgery this coming monday... the day before, all I could THiNK about was my favorite pizza, since that's my favorite food, but I made it through that one, and THAT was a tough one...I was at my last series of appointments, had my 4 month old daughter who was fussy, and had not had any liquids for a few hours, had a SPLITTING HEADACHE and was RAVENOUSLY hungry... It was my first day of the fast... i felt delirious, SERIOUSLY... and had 4 beef jerky sticks... WAH WAH... i don't think this will affect me, as I am ok now... and I am pretty confident my liver will still shrink prior to surgery as it should... I…

Nov. 14th 2012 was my new life changer. Gastric bypass. I was never depressed or diagnosed with anything before surgery. But after surgery I have been the most depressed person ever. I look in the mirror and I still see this big fat ugly person. But I'm not as big as I used to be. I have gained weight and don't know why?! I was 380lbs Nov. 2012, day of surgery. Then I dropped to 170lbs. Just this past year I gained weight 211lbs and I feel so disgusting. Is depression normal? Is this weight gain normal? And how do you get this weight off? Also I have allot of extra skin. Seeing it makes me sick. I don't have medical nor money so does anyone know how to go about gettin…

Hi, I live in Austin, had surgery 12/3/16 in Mexico, in recovery for the holidays with my parents in Mexico, but thought I'd check in too see if there are any newly post-op people near Austin for local support with being accountable with meals, working out, handling the unexpected changes that will accompany WLS (weight loss surgery). My journey story is in the share your journey forum.

I joined this site because I am wondering if anyone is in the same boat as me...I am pre-surgery, it is in a couple months. I am having a Roux En Y because my stomach doesn't work-it doesn't empty and I regurge everything I eat for about 5-6 hours after. Two surgeries (in an attempt to fix the problem) later and the symptoms are all back, so my surgeon has resorted to this procedure. I am starting to become anxious about the after surgery stuff-learning to eat again, how long are you on a liquid diet for? How to make sure I get the proper nutrients/vitamins. How long will the recovery be? They are doing an open procedure so how big will the incision be? Any insight …

Had sleeve November 2016. I see the weight loss in my clothes but looking at pictures gives me encouragement. Started size 28 pants and now I am in a 14/16 pants. Shirts started size 3xl and now I am in a 10/12 or medium/large. Each day is a work in progress but with God standing with me I can do it. I do not like to take pictures but did and had to share. A work in progress! "Unfinished"

Currently still in the hospital and losing my mind. I had surgery Monday 6/5/17 and will hopefully be leaving today, but I'm not mad about not eating or anything like that I just find myself pissed off in the hospital and at the same time the "buyers remorse" is getting to me probably more because I want to be out of here. When does it get better? When you get home?

This is my 2nd attempt to have bariatric surgery. About 3 years ago I set it to have the sleeve done. I was all set and all I needed to do was see the surgeon and schedule my date. However my insurance changed but further more I got scared and backed out of it completely. At that time I was worried what other people would feel about me having this surgery and how they would look at me. At that time that was very important to me. Even though I had people's approval I was still worried about what people were thinking . Even though I was unhappy with what I saw that didn't matter. So I just couldn't go through with it. Fast forward till September 2016 and i sat down …

I'm having a hard time preparing meals. I am cleared for a reefular dietr and have been for about 3 weeks. My main go to's have been steak, ground chuck burgers, home baked chicken wingettes. I try to eat veggies like corn and Brussels sprouts but it's hard to fit much other than the protein in for lunch or dinner. My problem is that I am running out of things that sound good. Soup is still a no from the scarring of post op, and i tried zucchini noodles...that was a no go either. Please just drop some suggestions... also chicken breasts are a no ? I have a lot of weight to lose....around 200 lbs give or take. I'm about 4 months post op now, I've lost around 70lbs and all I can think about is how much further I still have to go! How do you stay motivated and focused?? I find it hard to accept compliments from friends and family on my loss so far because in my head I'm thinking "yeah, but I'm still so overweight". I'm still solidly in plus sized clothing and have a very very long way to go before that changes so shopping for new clothes doesn't bring me any joy - I'm just the next size down in the crappy selection of clothes that the fat stores carry. Hi all, I'm preop and set tog 7/13 bypass surgery. My husband is wondering what typical meals I should be eating (typical dinner) once my stomach is completely healed. I had a lapband in 2009 to 2013 that did great right till it slipped bad and had to be removed. He's wondering what will be the difference in foods as compared to when I had the band.

When I was young I thought I would try and lose a little weight by bicycling to and from work. After a few months, I gave that up because it was way too unsafe. On the way home people would pass me in cars going around 50 or 60 miles per hour, get within a razor thin distance from my bike and then honk their horns. Even the slightest knee jerk reaction would have caused a serious accident. And it would be me, the bicyclist, that would be on the way to the hospital. This didn't happen once or twice but was almost a daily occurrence. So I retired the bike. After weight loss surgery, many take to the roads in bicycles for exercise. Are the steep rise in accid…

I've been having tingling sensations mostly in the left side of my body (usually both feet though) since surgery multiple times a day. My limbs don't "feel" asleep but I get the pins and needles sensation but more often than not it feels like it's literally vibrating. I keep wanting to explain it like a car revving up its engine because it's pretty forceful and sometimes gradual. It happens even when I'm rubbing my arm in a specific place its so odd and unnerving. I have my 1 month post op appointment tomorrow and I will be asking abt this but I want to know if anyone else has experienced this ?

Hi guys and gals!! I'm new to the forum, so forgive me if this isn't posted in the correct area. A little about me; I'm 28 years old. I started this journey back in October of 2016 - I went to my first information session and then wasted 3 months doing research and really thinking about it and finally got the ball rolling in December of that year. I have now been approved by insurance (YAY!!) and am scheduled to have gastric bypass on July 5th (Double yay!!) I have a 2 week pre-op diet, I have met with my nutritionist and think I have everything I need to begin. I have my final pre-op appointment scheduled with my surgeon on June 22nd. I have a very small list of ques…
