Hello all, I was banded 9/2009 and lost about 80 lbs (went from 250 to 170) in 18 months or so. I always had problems with getting stuck and vomiting/PBing, but I pushed through it. I started to have difficulty swallowing more and more, and after an upper GI study and endoscopy, I learned I had esophageal dilation and prolapse. If you aren't familiar, it means my esophagus was stretching out above my band and flopping over, creating a tiny pouch where food would get stuck. My lap-band doctor gave me a complete unfill, with the goal of letting it heal and then deciding what to do next. Next thing you know, I'm regaining weight. In addition to the personal st…

I am new to this support group. I am weighing 288 and been looking forward to having this surgery done for a long time now. I was very excited about being able to finally go through this process and finally be in track to a better living and healthy life. But now that my surgery is less than a week away, I am completely terrified. Just the idea of altering such an important part of my body is all of the sudden making me think twice about this surgery. I won't turn back now no matter what but, I was wondering if there's anyone that is feeling the same way and maybe some of you that have been through it already could tell me what to expect. My main worry for after the surge…

I had my surgery in Jan of this year. Everything has been going great until this month. I have been having alot of sugar lows. Dangerous lows. For you all out there that have had to deal with a problem such as this. Is there any foods that help your sugar levels stay stable longer? I get tired of eating banana's all the time. Any suggestions? Thank you

Hello all, Just out of curiosity, what is the average weekly/monthly weight loss for someone close to my size? I am 5' 1" and my pre-op weight was 241. My surgery was 6/1, and I am currently sitting at 200lbs. Just came out of a stall this week, I was at 205 for a few weeks, and magically the scale went to 200lbs overnight and it seems it is taunting me now..."Oh, so you wanna get below 200, huh? tell me again how that would be so amazing!"...I swear it says that to me every morning. So, it seems like I am losing weight. I am walking on my treadmill 45min/4 times a week and resistance exercise in off days, which I started today. I am finally taking all my multi…

My bypass surgery is scheduled for July 26th and I am inches away from calling my doc and cancelling the whole thing. I am 100% self-pay and am terrified of all the complications that I see and hear about. It took a lot for me to save the 22k for the surgery. I worry that complications could send me to the poor house. I am 5'5 240 and wonder if it's worth it. Is anyone else out there getting a full bypass via self-pay?

Struggling!!! A whole year has gone by already and I have received more negative than positive from family and so called friends. Now I am concerned and feel ashamed because I have not lost as much as I should have. I did not even Celebrate my first surgerversery (sp). Just healing from two major surgeries at the same time (RNY & gallbladder) was enough but now I realize that the negative reactions sent me more into a depressive state. My starting weight was over 500, maybe there is a willing buddy out there who has been successful with losing a massive amount of weight too.

I need help with accountability and my struggle of eating.....I had a revision from sleeve to Bypass on May 30. In the past I have had 2 lap band surgeries....then lap band to sleeve in 2012....with not successful weight loss and recently the sleeve to by-pass. I have no issues with dumping......I ate a cookie to see how my body would react....nothing happened.....The only time I feel any type of discomfort is if I get too full...but it seems I can eat more than most folks who have had by-pass. I struggle with eating when I am not even hungry.......I have struggled with this issue for years which is one reason why my WLS have not been a success. I currently wo…

Hello! I'm one week post op. I realize that isn't that long and so this is all likely normal, but I'm nervous and started to go crazy worrying if it's not. I did fine in the hospital, but ever since I've been home I've had diarrhea. I wake up with it and a stomach ache every morning. It will hit me out of no where when I have or haven't eaten. And almost everything I eat makes me sick. I've backed off all milk products for the past 3 days and I thought that helped, but I still feel terrible and I'm scared to eat, because I'm scared to make myself feel worse. I'm getting about half my water in, and all of my vitamins. How long does this usually last? Is it normal? Shou…

  19. Surgery went great. He found a hernia & repaired it. There was a lot of expected scar tissue since I had a lapband that was removed 4 years ago. Dr Nair said the scar tissue wasn't half as bad as he expected, so I got lucky. My question is about the JP tube drain. I've been stripping it, emptying the pouch a few times a day & measuring. But the pads around it get soaked through pretty fast. The drain fluid is relatively clear at this point. Not so much blood in it anymore. There's no odd odor,. Skin looks good. No fever. Would the pads getting soaked be something to call the doctor about tomorrow? Or just wait till my Thursday follow up?

  20. My date is August 22 (trying to get a week earlier if possible). I've seen some people say they started earlier than two weeks for their liver shrinkage diet. What does it actually consist of? I haven't met with the nutritionist or had the one required class yet. Those appointments are in early August. I have an aversion to powdered shake type stuff so I want to know if it's possible to get premixed shakes. I would at least like to test different flavors.

Forgot my bathing suit while meeting my hubby over at my parents house for a hot tub (they were out of town) and stopped in at Giant Tiger at 7:55 when they closed at 8. They had bathing suit tops and bottoms on sale for $7 each. Grabbed an XL bottom and a size 14/D top and got out of there before they closed. Here is comes....they fit perfectly! Never in my life have I bought a bathing suit in the regular sizes with out trying it on and it fits!! 25. So I preface this with....I need a moment to vent. I'm not far into my journey, currently in my 6 month supervised. I was originally keeping a lot of this process to myself, partly because I didn't want to say anything only to find out the I wouldn't qualify. Partly because I was afraid of the various reactions. But based on conversations with my boyfriend I started feeling a bit guilty about the possibility of just springing surgery on my family and close friends. So with that I started to tell folks little by little and every reaction thus far has been completely unhelpful and depressing. I know most are reacting to concerns about "surgery" and associated dangers, but t…

The only time she has any relief is when she is lying down or reclining. All nutrient, neuro tests, etc are normal. Please, any insight???

Hello everyone! I had the DS surgery on May 5th and I've lost 32 lbs. I feel like that isn't a lot so I think it's time for me to start reaching out to others. I'm only 5 feet tall and I weighed 249 when I started my journey. I weighed 233 going into surgery. I have had it pretty easy, easier then I thought it would be, I have never thrown up or had dumping, so I feel like I'm following the rules. I would just like to hear other people's stories, especially ones who've had the DS, because I can't find a lot of talk from people who've had it. And I'm posting a pic so I can start this off being brave!

I identify with caregivers, educators, counselors, etc. It's a lifestyle that often requires we give a lot of ourselves, we have to set boundaries and learn to put on our own oxygen mask first (self care). My surgery is scheduled for July 28th. I would love to have someone in the area to talk with!

I had RNY Gastric Bypass on November 14, 2016. On my day of surgery, I weighed 334 and have lost a lot of weight. In February, I was rushed to the ER with a perforated intestine (hole) caused by a Marginal Ulcer near where my Roux limb attaches to my stomach pouch. I survived that ordeal, staying in the hospital for 5 days after nearly dying from sepsis. In mid-April, something changed...my "intestinal motility" slowed way down and my (sorry) poop practically turned to clay. I wound up back in the hospital during the 3rd week of April with a diagnosis of "Prostatitis" but my CT scans revealed my entire pelvis was inflamed. I was on strong antibiotics (liquid Bactrim…

People also are surprisingly pushy about getting me to drink alcohol, like I'm some sort of weirdo if I don't get a drink. They're always asking when I can eat or drink things. I also had no idea that after surgery you can't take ibuprofen (used to eat it like candy), that I would have to separate eating and drinking liquids, and that soup is a bad idea. The pre-op class was really surprising for me. The salad thing also surprised me but I can eat a little salad with m…
