I finally have a date for surgery! January 4th, 2017 is the date! I am a bit nervous as I have never had surgery or been under anesthesia before but I'm looking forward to dropping this weight for good! The surgeon wants me to do a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery as he would like the liver to shrink to make it easier to get to the bits he needs to work with. This is me now but I am so looking forward to posting some after pics some time next year! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

So I had gastric bypass surgery on 1/23/17, highest weight was 330, surgery weight was 274, and currently at 224. I've lost 50 lbs and 15 inches. I feel great, have tons of energy, and love going to the gym or outdoors with my 3 kids, but my boyfriend, who is over weight as well (around 315lbs.) Just can't seem to keep up with me anymore. He has lost around 20 lbs on his own since last Christmas, which is fantastic, but lately he has been sliding back into old bad habits. He always has an excuse not to go to the gym, he sneaks sweets late at night, won't go out with us, and just generally sits on his butt all day watching YouTube videos...when not at work. We started thi…

Hi everyone, i had my lap band removed in May 2016 - out of necessity rather than want. It took a couple of years but I lost 176lb /76kg - the problem being in the last year I think my band twisted and I couldn't eat much and became malnourished with damage done to my vagus nerve resulting in blackouts/convulsions and general ill health with my BMI hitting 18 at its lowest. I was skinny but with no energy and felt like I was slowly dying. My surgeon at the time said I should get a bypass revision but I refused as I foolishly believed food was no longer an issue for me and I'd be able to keep the weight off easily. I had a difficult surgery and was in a l…

My surgery is scheduled for Monday morning -- Band to Bypass. I've had explosive diarrhea on the shakes -- both the whey Protein Shakes and the vegan shakes. The only Protein powder that doesn't seem to both my digestive system is Trader Joe's Pea Protein. I ran out of the TJ Pea Protein 3-days ago and started using the vegan protein powder (recommended by the dietician). For 3-days now, I've been feeling really sick -- upset stomach times ten. No fever or nausea -- it's not a virus. It's that something has disagreed with me in a major way. I feel exhausted and my head feels as though it's sitting in cotton -- I feel spacey. It's from having very little in my stomach -- j…

I am still getting all of my pre requirements done for surgery and I had 2 EKG's come back adnormal so I had to see a cardiologist. He ordered an echocardiogram and everything looked good except a mild tricuspid valve regurgitation. She said it wasn't anything to be worried about, but I'll have to get cleared from the doctor before I can have surgery. Has anyone else had this issue? It makes me scared having an issue with my heart. Sent from my SM-G935T using BariatricPal mobile app

I have not had my surgery yet either, but did anyone else feel like bc your bigger then normal no one wants to get to know you? Not one person has asked me who I am or my daughter, who is 7 years and very approachable. I feel like I'm nasty. But I'm pretty, clean, white teeth, dress normal no cleavage showing, and smiles a lot. Just a helpful tip for those of you that suffer from constipation. I was constipated for 3 weeks straight. I had taken 4 gallons of Go Lyte Le, 6 bottles of magnesium citrate, gastrograph, 4 water enemas and several suppositories. NOTHING WORKED!! Finally I was reading a blog and a women who was in the same place as me and also had surgery swore if you drank 1 Mountain Dew it would work. Well I know I'm not supposed to have soda or sugar but was desperate. I did it and oh my goodness IT WORKED!!!

I am having revision surgery on 4/20. I currently was very successful with vsg. I unfortunately had a ton of issues with reflux, gastroparesis, and esophageal dismotility which is why revision to rny. All approved with insurance and ready to go. I have pre op this Wednesday. I just have this terrible feeling something will go wrong. I have been stuck with all these issues and now I am getting it fixed. I guess I just can't believe it? I have also read all the rny horror stories I can find.. Anyone else freaking out? Anyone want a freak out buddy?

Good morning!!! Well my three month wait, finally paid off. I had surgery yesterday. My experience thus far has been pretty good. I slept most of yesterday, so Im wide awake since 3am pst. I have 7 incision sites. I cant feel much pain in any of them but one. The big one is about 3 inch incision right next to my ribcage, it's rather tender, hurts to sit up and walk. My nurse ordered me a binder to support my belly better while walking. No appetite as of yet. Ive walk twice, once a couple hours after surgery and the other last night. Last night I doubled the distance and felt the gas moving after. Only minor burps, no passing gas yet. I cant wait for the relief though. My …

I'm having revision (band to bypass), on Monday morning (Yikes!), and I'm looking for a mentor/buddy. I'm nervous (par for the course, I would think), and of course, I want the surgery to be successful and I want to be a roaring long-term weight loss success. Anyone care to jump on the success bandwagon with me?

Sleeved 4/14/14 did well with my sleeve. Severe GERD meds not providing relief. Scheduled to be revised to RNY 4/11. Just looking to hear from others that's had a revision. Very worried about extreme pain after surgery and how different will life be with the bypass in comparison to my sleeve.

Has anyone been told they cannot have a Roux-enY (RNY) if your BMI is over 50 even though your weight is less than 350 pounds? And the Duodenal Switch (DS) would be the choice? I hear horror stories about the DS. Any comments would be appreciated.

Hi all. Had gastric bypass on 1-18. My surgeon mentioned to me at my last visit that the amount of gut that is bypassed is less when your BMI is less. So basically he said because my BMI was around 41, he only bypassed something like 25% ( or cm - I can't remember) but that with someone with a higher BMI, he could bypass 50% (or 50cm - like I said I can't remember exactly). Has anyone heard of this? I thought all bypasses were the same as far as how much gut was actually bypassed. I almost feel cheated and I hope this doesn't slow my weight loss. I've lost about 46 lbs. 12 from pre-op liquid diet and 34 since surgery. And I feel my weight loss stalled the past week…

Good morning all, Would love to connect with any seniors over seventy who are traveling this road. There's probably not a lot of us. For sure, our journeys will differ due to our advanced age. Personally, am not quite two months post-op, but I must say I feel great! Let me know how you're doing, and if there are any issues you need help with. Hope to talk to you soon. Hugs, Jodi

ETA: Disregard. I was in the wrong forum. I don't know what to do. I had the VSG 02/15/2016 and lost fine right after surgery (though slowly). That was okay. I've historically been a slow loser and I'm 56 and was right at 40BMI (SW was 235). Right now I fluctuate between 181 and 177. For SIX MONTHS. I've been at the same weight range for SIX MONTHS. I'm moderately active (walking) because of leg injuries. I drink at least 64 oz. of Water a day and get in my Protein (and basically follow a low-carb diet with around 50 carbs per day). If I eat over 700-800 calories I gain. I'm afraid of slowing down my metabolism by eating so few calorie…

In 1999-2000 I had a Vertical Gastric Banding (mesh) by a Doc Mason Jett in OKC. Over the past 17yrs I've countlessly struggled with vomiting, avoided meat, bread and Pasta due to everything getting "stuck" or anything spicy due to terrible reflux. Also, I've had some serious issues with not being able to have bowel movements. So I've constantly been on fleet pills, suppositories and other devices to be able to go. Needless to say I'm terrified at what they are going to find when they do a scope. My abdomen is always very distended especially up top above my belly button. BMI is 33.3. I have my 1st consultation on Thursday 2/9/17 and I will have to be a self pay so …

I am 6 weeks post op, 30 lbs list & I habr stalled. Well, not only have I stalled but I gained 2 pounds in the last couple days ???? Wth??? That is mathematically impossible as I would have to be consuming an additional 7000 calories a week to gain a pound. I am NOT..... unless this water weight fluctuation &/ or PMS....I cannot think this type of restrictive dieting can lead to any gain. Please please shed some light on this for me.

I and my 7 year old girl were having a quiet time, while the baby sleeps. So I decided to tell her that soon I would be having this surgery and my big belly would disappear, her first response was Then how will I be able to see you???? hehe, so I told her I would not disappear, just the big tummy. And then I asked her what she felt about it, and she said HAPPY. Because the I would be able to walk, and run, and ride a bike, and jump.. If I would have any doubt about doing this, it would have disappeared right then and there. I am so happy that I am going for the surgery, not just for me but also my children. So many things that they miss out on because of my weight. …

"Kidneys filter 200 liters of blood a day, help regulate blood pressure and direct red blood cell production," states the National Kidney Foundation. "But they are also prone to disease; 1 in 3 Americans is at risk for kidney disease due to diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of kidney failure. There are more than 26 million Americans who already have kidney disease, and most don’t know it because there are often no symptoms until the disease has progressed." Prior to my RNY gastric bypass surgery around 4 years ago, I had high blood pressure and diabetes. After surgery these diseases quickly went into remission. Which will positively affect the condi…

Hi everybody, I will be 7 weeks post rn.y tomorrow. Since last Thursday I've been having the feeling of food being stuck in my throat. Over the weekend it lasted for 48 hours and that was while I was on liquids only. The surgeon ordered an upper GI for me tomorrow. Super annoyed, but what can I do? It comes with the territory right? Just curious if anyone has had this.. did one endoscopy take care of it or did you have to have multiple? Feeling annoyed. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
