I went out with a girlfriend tonight and actually wanted to look pretty. The amazing part is I wore heels all night long and didn't have to take them off ten minutes later. Being 2 months out and seeing this change is amazing. My confidence is way up lately and I am so happy about my outcome. I wouldn't change my decision for anything in the world. Best tool ever.

Last week I had my consultation. When the surgeon walked in he told me he was surprised I was leaning towards RNY instead of VSG. He discussed both and said he would do either one, but it was up to me to choose. He didn't want to tell me what I should do, but he also said if he had just read my chart (5'6, 260, no major health issues) he would have said VSG was good option. I'm worried I won't lose enough of my weight if I get VSG. I'm worried that VSG won't be drastic enough to help me make changes. Worried that I'll have complications because RNY has more risks than VSG. During my 2nd C-section my OBGYN mentioned removing excess scar tissue from my 1st C-section, so now…

I had my surgery on June 29th and am doing well. People have begun to notice my weight loss. When they ask me how I did it, I don't know what to say. I end up telling them that I had bypass surgery but to me that is personal information. Maybe I'm making too big a deal about it and it shouldn't matter. Anyone have advice on what to say or deal with this issue too? Sent from my LGLS990 using the BariatricPal App

Maybe I'm posting in the wrong area, sorry I'm tired. I am 5 days post op and I'm having terrible nausea in the middle of the night. I feel good all day but I wake up in the middle of the night sweating and nauseous. Sometimes I'll have a bowel movement. Has anyone else dealt with this? I know gastric bypass was something I needed to do but this makes me regret having it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I am curious on what kind of diet you were given for post with gastric bypass? For me purée for 6 weeks.. i am almost 2 weeks post op and really want to eat meats.. I find myself chewing on ice to help with the feeling of wanting to chew.

I had RNY 2/16/17 and I'm feeling so down and depressed. I see everyone around me eating everything they want and it depresses me that I will never be there again. Never be able to go to pizza Hut and eat pizza and breadsticks or go to Mexican and eat chips and salsa or Taco Bell and get a Mexican pizza and tacos. I'm on stage 3 soft food and all I want is a huge cheese pizza or large plate of chips and salsa. Even though I don't have much of an appetite. I have been struggling daily with my decision and at times wishes I wouldn't of done this to myself. Please someone tell me this gets easier.

Anyone heard of stricture coming back at over 1 year post-op? I am 15 months post-op and had balloon dilation exactly one year ago to fix my stricture. The last few days, I am having a terrible pain. It is like a spasm in my esophagus and I am having trouble getting food down (well good food - chips seem to go down too easy ) Anyway, the pain is pretty bad and not the same I had with my previous stricture but not be able to get food down makes me think stricture. I will call my dr on Tuesday and meanwhile try to eat when I can and supplement with shakes (which seem to go down fine). Just made fabulous chicken and 2 bites in, I simply cannot eat anymore - and I took…

  20. I did this for my diabetes because nothing else worked. I did everything possible including being raw vegan for a year. My blood sugar never changed at all! Surgery was my last resort. The Only reason I did this was diabetes, the weight loss is just an added bonus for me! I got surgery in Mexico 7 weeks ago. I was under the impression (due to all my research) that I'd leave the hospital with my diabetes in remission. Well, that was 7 weeks ago, my blood sugar hasn't changed even a little bit! I've lost 33 lbs. but no results with my main goal, my blood sugar. I'm devastated! I'm frustrated! I'm extremely discouraged. My dr communicates to his patients through Facebook. A …

So I hit my 2 month mark and I've been having issues with trying to not go back to my old habits, especially at work. I am super busy with school, work and being a mother so trying to get my eating schedule down and making healthy foods and snacks are hard right now. I'm looking for someone who had surgery around December to keep me motivated since I have no time to go to meetings around me. I'm not just looking for someone to keep me accountable but also I can keep someone else motivated and accountable.

Hello everyone, I thought I'd stop by and check this out at the recommendation of my therapist. I am having RNY on 3/21. I have gone through the whole approval process, and so far I'm down 40lbs from diet and exercise. I call myself a grumpy newbie because that's how I've been feeling a majority of the time since I changed my eating and started exercising. The dietician recommended adding 2 snacks to my regimen, and that helped with the irritability a bit, but not totally. Also, I am 3 months into this journey, and exercising still sucks, and I feel like I'm not getting any stronger, which is frustrating. I can't figure out if I'm grumpy because I can't eat like I use…

I am just over 4 weeks post op and in the last week I started noticing I was having more and more problems with food that didn't want to go down. 3 of the last 4 days I have had episodes where I have thrown up after taking just a few bites of food. One night it was fish, another well cooked cauliflower the third tuna salad and the last cream of potato and leek soup. In each occurrence I got 2-3 bites of food in and I could feel it backing up. I would stop eating but would have pain directly in the middle of my chest like food was stuck in my esophagus. The next 45-60 minutes I would spend throwing up tiny bits and dealing with all my mucous producers going into o…

  30. A recent report in the New England Journal of Medicine describes a randomized trial comparing two types of bariatric surgery with intensive medical treatment with respect to reducing or eliminating T2DM (Type 2 Diabetes). One hundred thirty-four patients were randomly assigned to receive either Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery, sleeve gastrectomy, or intensive medical interventions. The participants were followed for 5 years, and the primary endpoint was determining the level of glycated hemoglobin (also called hemoglobin or HGB A1C). HGA!C is a way of estimating the amount of glucose in the blood over time: higher levels suggest that diabetes management is in…

  31. Hey! Is everybody just picking their dream goal weight or have you actually discussed a realistic goal with your physicians? I'm asking because I feel so lost and uninformed. I've done all my pre-op testing, seen a nutritionist twice, lost nearly 20 lbs and just waiting on insurance approval. With all this said, I have received absolutely no info about anything it seems. Maybe my expectations are skewed. All I know is that the surgeon (who I met once and told me I'm a perfect candidate for bypass) told me most bypass patients lose about 100 pounds. I'm 300 pounds overweight. Should I enter 200 pounds as my goal weight even though I should and dream to be about 100-11…

Was discharged in a couple of days, came home to recover, and doing fair. Having severe muscle spasms from two surgeries in less than a week, issues with constipation, and struggling to get anything past my lips. The potassium supplement I am supposed to take 2X daily are too large to swallow. I cut them up and took in pieces, then threw them up. I crushed and put in applesauce which tasted terrible and also didn't work. I dissolved in small amount of tea. Nope that didn't work either. How can I possibly get enough potassium…

I really hope i have not stretched my pouch, but don't believe I have as i follow my doctor's orders/diet to a T. Is it possible that as I am healing i'm just able to eat more and more? I'm still not eating anywhere CLOSE to the amounts i was able to eat pre op, but certainly a lot more than i was able to just a few months ago.
