I had my 6 month post op appointment today and I am so happy! No more sleep apnea, no more borderline type 2 diabetes and I am just 20lbs from my goal weight. It feels so good to follow the doctors orders and get the results! Hard work pays off! If you are discouraged keep going! We got this!! SW 249 CW 168 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

In a new position statement, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) and the American College of Endocrinology (ACE) have replaced the word “obesity” with “Adiposity-Based Chronic Disease” (ABCD). While that sounds like a clunky switch, the authors have laid out why a simple notion should be replaced with what they call a "complications-centric" approach to the diagnosis and treatment of excess body fat (adiposity). It's more complex than something like BMI. By making this change they have decided to use a new term that puts more emphasis on the chronic diseases that result from excess body fat. Here is a link to the article that discusses th…

I had a moment a little while ago. I started thinking about the beginning of my journey and talking to our new HR rep about insurance and coverage, etc. She told me that she had WLS herself. I remember thinking "I'll never look as good as she does". I honestly didn't think it could happen. I knew I'd be successful but it just doesn't mentally translate into what that really meant. My moment today was when I realized that other people are looking at me like that -- whether they know I had surgery or not. So, I decided that I needed to make a "cheerleading" post. Where ever you are in your journey, don't give up! Hang in there! Everyone has their struggles -- s…

Hi! Is there anyone out there who is or has been one week post op Gastric Bypass and feel /felt completely normal? I'm not complaining and I'm not asking for complications but honestly, I'm talking no nausea, no pain, no diarrhea, no sipping of anything, no timing my eating. Everything fine! I even have an appetite!!! What the hell! No lie, today is day 9 post op and I just ate Greek yogurt with whole fresh blueberries. I ate it about an hour ago. Nothing. A little full. But fine. I was told my surgeon is a genius and that I was really lucky to have him do my surgery. Is he really that good that I feel like my stomach is still in tact? I'm not feeling any of what ot…

I really enjoy attending my monthly WLS Support Group. It is the 4th Tuesday of the month at the hospital. I find it comforting to be able to talk to a nutritionist and listen to others who have been through the same surgery as me. It is almost like being on this forum except I can speak to them one on one if I need too.

So I'm wondering if anyone has tried them or discussed with your dr. I'm trying to simplify this as I feel like I'm obsessing about Water, Protein and Vitamins. Yeah, if I could just plug in an IV line every few days, that would be great too. ???? Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App

I'm 5 weeks post-op for bypass and I burp constantly. I've decided that if I'm not burping you may want to check for a pulse! When does this stop? On a side note I've also noticed that on the days that I drink close to what I should be I feel gross by the evening. Anyone else experience this? Sent from my LG-H811 using the BariatricPal App

I'm currently about 2 1/2 weeks out and I'm the middle of my hormonal tears stage (so please bare with me), but amidst all of my current pain and inability to progress in my diet I'm beginning to wonder why doctors don't recommend diets of less than 800 calories due to "safety reasons" but seem all too happy to invite this suggestion AFTER my body has been mutilated beyond repair with surgery? I lost almost 30 pounds during my 2 week liquid diet, and have now stagnated in my 2 weeks post-op. My highest weight was 249 and I am now hovering around the 209 pound mark. Does anyone else feel as if surgery recommendation was, perhaps, some kind of industry farce? Since su…

I had the gastric bypass RNY (or is the r&y??) on October 5th. I unfortunately had a rare complication of internal bleeding, my incisions ripped. On top of that I have a blood disorder, factor5, which causes blood clots- had several on/around the area. The surgeon actually told my parents I had a high chance of dying. Luckily, I am still here. Had to spend multiple days in the ICU and then multiple days in the regular IP hospital. I had some delays with my progress. I started at 257. 3 months out I am 205. My doctor tells me I'm where in supposed to be. I just don't feel I am. Does anyone else have this issue? It's as if no matter what you feel it's not enough? I ba…

Hey guys! My friend/co worker had her surgery about a month ago and I'm scared for her. I feel like she's doing everything wrong. Shes not eating (claim to be not hungry). When she does eat it's something unhealthy. She hasn't started on any Vitamins yet because she said she isn't ready to swallow. She removed the bandages from her incisions and they aren't healing as they should. I'm really concerned. We both started this journey together and she had her surgery before me. I've talked to her but she has her own idea as to what she should do. She's losing weight but I'm just not happy about how she's doing things. What should I do? Sent from my iPhone using the Ba…

So I think I saw this topic before but I couldn't find it again.. So, I am 31 and have lost 78 lbs so far and have about 28 to go to hit my goal weight. I am a very happy, go-lucky person and haven't been in a relationship for about 7 years. I have been thinking about trying to put myself out there in the dating scene again but I'm not sure how I would bring up the bypass topic. For instance, if I was going to go out to dinner on a date, do I tell him why I would only eat a few bites, or how have others handled that? Do you tell them up front that you've had it, or wait for a time for it to come up? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

EEEEEP. Its almost time! I'm having my Bypass surgery on February 15th. I already had my four hour long class. Just my pre-op appointment and then my surgery! dun dun dun! I'm so excited. I'm nervous about the drain though. They are going to put a drain in me through my stomach, the idea of having something inside and outside of me through an unnatural hole is just freaking me out. but everything else I'm okay with. I'm so weird. Any words of advice? I'm so excited.

I was sorta, kinda, maybe wondering if there are any cornhuskers out there that are at the beginning stages of everything? I'd love to find someone to go through this with step by step. I've gone to my initial consultation and now I await the dreaded 3 weeks to hear back from insurance for a decision. They did put me on the books for my 3 hour block appointments late February and blood work in march. And what the hell, I suppose you Iowans are welcomed as well. Hello everyone I hope everyone is doing great. I have a huge situation. I keep losing weight. I was 114 and now 104 and saw a nutritionist and gastroenterologist. They are concern that I may keep losing weight and may end up in a serious health problem. I do not want to go back on iv TPN. The surgeon said it had to come off since I was on it for 6 month. I need more calories but I feel so full even though I am so hungry at times. It is so hard to eat and constant drink all day long. Any suggestions??? I am very worried. I am so weak and tired. Tomorrow I have a appointment with my surgeon and will talk to him about what is going on. The nutritionist stated I need 1500 ca…

Hi, So, my RNY surgery was Monday and I finally got home yesterday! (I had severe post op nausea and dry heaves so they kept me until they were sure I could stay hydrated without an IV). Right now, I am being told to focus on liquids above all else. Jello, G2, and popsicles (and water) are all fine. But when I try chicken broth I sometimes get pain on my left side. Sharp, weird pain. Could it be the heat? The fat? (I made and froze homemade chicken broth; I skimmed the fat but didn't manage to get it all) I'll try Protein shakes soon too although the smell bugs me so far. Just curious: was anyone else sensitive to temperature post op? The very good PA in the hos…

I feel like a broken record complaining. So, here goes. I had RNY on 12/18/14. I have only lost 13.2 pounds in three weeks. I get either right close to 60 grams of Protein a day or a little over it. My calories is 400-600. Generally in the low 500s a day for calories. I am sad and frustrated. I see others (I know we aren't suppose to compare...but it is so hard not to) who have lost 25-30 pounds or more in the same time frame. Right now I am 5 ft 4 and 212 even.... Is this normal? What am I doing wrong? I am freezing and irritable most of the time.

He said it's common with band to RNY revisions and told me to be patient.

So I have been overweight all my life and at my heaviest I weighed about 350 pounds. I have Diabetes, High Blood pressure and a few other issues. In January of 2016 I decided to start losing weight. It worked, for the most part. I was walking every day, I started taking my gym membership seriously and even got a part time job at the gym. So far I have lost 50 pounds. In about March of last year I signed up for Bypass surgery. Having been a big fan of the show my 600 pound life, I felt this was a good idea for me. I had just turned 45 that April and knew I only had a short window of time to do this while I was young enough to recover. However, I was dealt a huge blow in S…

Post RNY Dec 1, 2016. Post reflux surgery. I am having problems with foods mainly meats. Within two bites I suddenly become in excruciating pain to center chest and abd, and I dry heave. I also am unable to swallow my own spit without dry heaving it back up. This does not go away for over 6 hours. I am severely uncomfortable, and can not lay down nor stand up straight for very long. I can only tolerate the gas x strips. My surgeon did not seem very concerned yesterday when I saw him, he just wants me to try different, lighter meats. Then last night it occurred again I am trying the Protein shakes but they cause diarrhea and dairy is intolerable. Can anyone relate ? I …

Hello, my last weigh-in appointment is tomorrow so still awaiting a surgery date. I'm wondering what was your first overall emotion the morning of your surgery and after you woke up? Besides the pain did you feel more peaceful, happy, etc ? Every time I think of it I get a very light and wholesome feeling b/c it's something I've been waiting for for years and I'm so excited for it. I'm excited to finally feel healthy and in control. I'm doing this extremely early in my life (I'm 19) but I'm so ready for what it'd bring.

I am 4 weeks play-op and what the surgical nutrition department says is allowed is mostly discouraged by my surgeon. On paper what he says is true for the most successful rapid weight loss but my body feels awful and brain is making plans to have some no no food party at six months. I feel guilty and I had poor sleep but I've decided to go with the recommendations of the nutrition department and not the surgeon. That means that at max, at weeks 4-6 I can have up to 10% of my meals as complex carbs. That is nothing and honestly I'm mad at the surgeon for pushing something closer to 3% or 4%. My weight loss will slow but I've been losing a pound a day and hating eve…

Has anybody used the New whey Protein 3.8 ounces ready made? It has 42 g of protein per little bottle. I ordered some, but wanted to see if anyone else used it. I figure I can drink half the bottle in two small sips and have my morning Protein Drink and the other half for my afternoon. I'm just struggling so much with protein. My other shakes make me gag or take me an entire hour to drink. And at this point with only being able to eat 2 ounces at a time, I can not get my protein through food. Maybe when I'm able to eat more at a time. Any other ideas?

Hi all, I'm a 30 year old female, around 41/42 BMI. I'm 1 NUT session away from submitting to insurance. I initially went to my surgeon asking for the bypass, to which he said I'm not overweight enough for and wouldn't be worth the complications. He said he wouldn't even consider it for me. And I left it at that. As I'm reading more, I'm having some doubts about the long term success with the sleeve. I know that one can be equally successful with both, but when looking at averages across many people, bypass wins out. In my mind, I would want to take the option that affords me the best chances at success forever. But I'm not sure if there are other considerations I'm …

Hey everybody I haven't had my surgery yet but Ive been reading all of your stories and I am very encouraged by them. Im excited and scared at the same time. I met a lady at my dr office the other day who had wls and of course I had a million questions to ask her. She was sweet enough to answer them all. She was wearing a fitness tracker and she said it helps keep her on track. She can keep track of her progress and set reminders so she doesn't forget to eat and drink on schedule. I'm going to get one but not quite sure which brand would be best for me. Like the idiot that I am I forgot to ask her the brand she had...I was so excited about the things she was telling me a…

Did anyone reach a "normal" weight around six months, or at least during the "honeymoon" period after surgery? How much more did you lose, and how long did it take for your weight to stabilize? I hit my goal weight last Friday, which is also a "normal" weight for my height, and due to ongoing issues I'm concerned about becoming underweight before stabilizing. My surgeon just told me "we've never had anyone lose too much weight even though we rarely have people lose all of their excess weight, you're still in the honeymoon phase, your body will stabilize eventually." Okay, fine. Then I step on the scale this morning and find I've lost 3 pounds since Friday. I lost 3 pounds…

I had surgery on 11/29/16. On Friday I was carrying a slightly heavy box in to my daughter's dance studio and later began to feel a sharp/ stabbing pain at my incison site. I didn't have any other symptoms and so far have not felt any bulges, been naseous, constipation, etc. but the pain is getting a little worse.
