I am 10 days post op and was feeling great. I am getting all my Fluid and all my Protein in. I have had some trouble sitting up in like a dining room chair but not too bad. Yesterday I was on my feet all evening with no problem and no pain. I drove home last night which was uncomfortable but I made it. Today I can hardly move, I haven't been able to walk much. Every time I get up I have burning pain way worse than before. Does the pain come in waves? Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App

Went through Gastric Bypass on 11/14/16 and feel like my weekly weight loss is too slow. I guess my expectations may be unrealistic, but it's just discouraging to see some early success and then have it slow down and I'm not even 8 weeks post-op. I know the weight loss may look more like stair steps on a chart, but I seem to be metabolically resistant and I'm not sure what to do. To give you an idea, I am sharing my weekly weight loss chart below. Has anyone else experienced this? Any tips for revving things up? I am a guy so I was hoping I would lose weight faster than the average numbers. Day of Surgery weight: 334 (I weigh on Mondays) Week 1: 323 - Weight los…

My sister in law gave me a crapload of clothing in mid December. I was amazed and very little fit at the time but.... Today I am able to wear a pair of the jeans she sent! She had surgery a year ago - and told me that I would be the last to notice until my clothes got big. Yesterday I noted a pair of my pants were too big....so today I tried these jeans. Blue jeans! 44 pounds from the day I came home from surgery. 40 pounds on record! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm still in pureed stage but adding genpro to most things to meet my needs. From what I've read, it seems most people add Protein when they are years out. Is it safe to supplement your diet with protein long term, even for life? I guess body builders do...So might not be that bad? Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

Have been in active afib for over a year.. Nothing worked to slow heart rate or give me regular Sinus rhythm. Having pace maker this Wednesday....Hope to get back on track. Feeling sorry for myself I went back to old habits. I am 4 years out and moved to an area that has limited bariatric surgery support groups. So how many calories, how many of those are carbs. Are Protein shakes etc. That are in the 'store' safe? Are they considered low carb...And the night. Sugar alcohols don't bother my digestive system....But they seem to make me not lose weight..Even if I make the bars a meal Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

I mean if he was already in the extracting my wisdom teeth then there had to be a way to take out that darn sweet tooth! Lol So I am the person that silently throws darts at the person in the room that says "I have never been big on sweets" I'm always like "Dude, did your mother make you suck on lines with your Similac?" Well I'm trying to cut back and off of sweets. My pre-opp appointment is next Monday so I'm sure I'm going to be told when my "new normal" eating should begin. I just don't want to shock my system but slowly ease into not eating sweets ever again in life. But today I am struggling and it's the first day that I'm starting. Yeah Breakfast was…

I just want to warn gastric bypass patients that at 16 days post op don't take a bite of cake. I have no idea what caused me to do that becayse i have followed my plan completely but I paid dearly in pain for several minutes afterwards. I thought it was going down fine but no in fact it did not. I couldn't do anything but wait. I thought I was going to vomit for a few minutes but no such luck. I just had to wait. It was really bad and I definitely learned my lesson. Just a bite will hurt! Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App

So I'm almost 6 months post-op, MGB (the reason I'm posting this question here is because I rarely get an answer in the MGB section) I've noticed in the past 3 weeks that I'm feeling extremely sleepy almost all the time. Iron levels, hemoglobin, B12, D3 and thyroids are all within normal. Could this be something related to my surgery, Vitamin deficiency or something completely different??!! Hi all-- I've got a kind of new thing going on the last several days. Nearly everything I eat causes pain. Even things like yoghurt and Protein shakes can make me hurt. Super excited today. I had my first appointment with my doc today. He said since I had great insurance that usually approves everyone, I don't need to do a 3 month supervised diet as long as I can loose 20 lbs asap. I'm super stoked. I want this Lapband gone. It has been a horrible experience and I'm so ready to start living life again. He said my best option would be gastric bypass. I simply cannot wait. I hope everything goes well. Healthy eating and strict diet start asap. It will be hard to cut out sweets but I know I can do it. I have the best motivation of all. Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App

A new study reported in JAMA Surgery investigates the long-term durability of weight loss after bariatric surgery. Led by Dr. Matther L. Maciejewski from the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Durham, NC, the researchers used data on mostly (over 73 percent) male veterans from the federal Veterans Administration. Participants' BMIs on average ranged from 43 to 48, putting them in the extremely obese category. They underwent one of 3 types of bariatric surgery: about 1800 had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB); about 250 had adjustable gastric banding (AGB); about 380 had Sleeve gastrectomy (SG); and about 5300 served as weight-matched non-operated controls. The me…

Hello. I am currently in the pre op process. Should have surgery on 3 months or so. I had planned on sleeve but surgeon is recommending RNY. I'm Still researching both. I have a new question. I was diagnosed late in life (40) with ADD . Honestly it was life changing once I found the medication for me. It's probably been as life changing as I anticipate this surgery will be. But the med I am on (Vyvanse) is long acting. I did not tolerate the short acting ones well at all. I'm concerned if I go the RNY route the medication will no longer work. Anyone care to share their experiences with medications absorption post RNY? Any med, but ADD med would be a bonus. Sent from …

I had RNY gastric bypass almost 1 year ago. I have been 165, 166 for the past several months. I am stuck here. Any advice from people who have gone before me? Should I try the 5 day pouch test? Maybe I should do the pre op liquid diet of 3 Protein shakes a day? I just want to jump start my weight loss again. I am 5' 3" and at 165 I am still overweight. Any advice on getting the remainder of the weight off would be appreciated. If you had RNY did you continue to lose after the first year?

Can anyone recommend a Protein shake that doesn't taste like a Protein Shake lol i've tried several different brands in different flavors and i just can't seem to get any of them down without wanting to throw up. it probably doesn't help that i hated milkshakes and ice cream and anything like that before my surgery. my nut recommends that i get 78 grams of protein a day, but i'm barely getting 20! i don't know what else to try. I absolutely hate the limited options that are provided by OB/GYN's! I know they're doing their job and perhaps there's not enough research done for quality treatment regarding PCOS; what birth-control is not going to cut it, what about when I want to have children? I've heard from several people that getting a gastric bypass will help with the hormonal issues developed from PCOS as well as fertility issues. What do you guys think? I had surgery on December 12, 2016 I noticed just about a week ago that I have a doll ache and pressure sensitive pain to the left of my belly button it does not come and go but just seems to stay there. The pain doesn't move around at all it is just site specific. It hurts more when I press on it so I try and refrain from anything touching that area. Any idea what this could be? So long story short....I was banded in 2005 and due to recent complications I am having it removed in February and then gastric bypass in March or April. My endocrinologist is suggesting an insulin pump right now for my diabetes. I am taking 5-6 shots a day and three pills and it is still not under control. It sounds absolutely wonderful to be free of the multiple daily injections. I will have to pay a $1000 deductible and then 30% of the pump which will be about $2400. I spoke with my surgeon and he as well thought it was a good idea. I was hoping after I had the bypass I would not have to take insulin after I had a significant weight loss. I do not want to invest…

Hello folks It's been 7 years this July since I got my band. I was losing weight (368 at surgery) really well until I got near my adult low which is 225. At that point I hit a mental block and stayed between 239-226 until now. Currently I am at 233 but I've had a breakthrough recently and I believe that I'm ready to lose the weight now. Part of my issue is that I've been at least obese since I was 5 years old. So much of my identity was that of the Fat Girl. I was always the heaviest one in the room. At my highest weight I was over 400 lbs. How much over 400 I can't tell you, that was as high as the scale went. It took quite some time before I was able to use the …

So I am approved for RNY and I get my date on the 16th! I am about 240 right now so I want to lose another 100-115ish pounds to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 140-125ish depending on how I feel. Does insurance cover skin surgery/body lift to reduce sagging skin if I were to need it? If not, those who've had it... what was your out of pocket cost total?? Hi All, I'm currently 245lbs and am going to have gastric bypass in a couple months. My goal is to get down to 160lbs. I know this is a very intense process and I was hoping you could share some of the things that were most difficult and maybe some of the things that surprised you about having gastric bypass surgery. I'm a little nervous about my surgery and want to hear about all aspects of this process, not just about how great it is to lose the weight. Many thanks! My bypassed stomach had to be removed because of gastrroparisis... I posted a few days ago asking if I would ever NOT be in pain or ever NOT feel sick...well, the pain in my left side of my ribs got so bad I thought I was going to die and I had a fever of 102.9 and was very nauseous. I went to the hospital and they found an abscess on my spleen. They had to put in a drain and drained 400 units right then and they had to leave the drain in to continue draining . I will be in the hospital for a few more days... Sent from my SM-J320V using the BariatricPal App

I had a gastric bypass performed in March 2010. Almost 6 years ago. Went from 260 to 130. I had no rashes under stomach or anywhere so insurance would not pay. I am happy with weight loss, but still unhappy with loose hanging skin. I have no funds and not good credit or income to make monthly payments. I am on disability. I see adds for free tucks, etc for donating skin. Are these for real? Is there some kind of wish foundation to apply to so you can make your dreams come true?
