Hi Everyone, Just wondering how I fare against others. I'm 6 months out and have lost a total of 70 lbs. (80 counting the 10 lbs I lost on my own before) Still have 84 more to go. I know that everyone is different but I am a numbers person and want to do a general comparison. I havent started to work out yet (joining gym tomorrow) and want to try and hit my goal of 95 lbs by my birthday. Also what have you found to be your most effective weight loss work out regimen? I'm considering a Lapband/plication to RNY revision and combing through the various posts online for info. I'm reading a lot about reactive hypoglycemia, and how many start having it anywhere from 6 months to several years post-op. I'm concerned because I already deal with RA, but I'm able to control it with diet. It sounds like it can become a runaway train and very tricky to control after this surgery. I think this scares me more than anything else because I've dealt with it for years; long before band/plication surgery. I'm interested to hear from anyone dealing with blood sugar issues since their bypass.

I had a RYN August 11, 2015 and so far I feel like I'm doing okay but I continue to seek the input of others on their meal plans. Daily how many calories are you taking in? How much food in 1 setting? How often are you exercising? I would love to talk to people who are in this stage. [emoji4]

I see many young people having Wls. I'm not positive I could have the right outlook and patience that I do at this time in my life. My life is less busy also and the kids are grown. So it helps with keeping groceries healthy and me on track. How do other "mature" adults stay on track for years?

I'm two days shy of being a month post-op. I haven't lost anything in over a week. Some days I don't have an appetite...I hate this protein shake...and my tummy still feels numb by my belly button...and sometimes when I eat I don't get full quick. What is happening? I'm so discouraged and this counting protein is really getting difficult because I'm running out of options of food. Any advice? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Today I met my surgeon and now the fun begins! I'm required to do a 3 month supervised diet, and I surprised the doctor, because I started this in November and Friday is my 3rd and final appointment! He said that is great and is kind of fast tracking to my Surgery date! Most likely it will be at the end of March or the beginning of April! I have to see a hematologist because 3 yrs ago I had bilateral pulmonary emboli and they never found out why I had these, so he said it's better to be safe than sorry! Next Monday I meet with the dietician and go to my lifestyle changing class! I also need an EGD due to reflux and to see if I have a hiatal hernia. Then my psych ap…

Hello everyone, I'm about 6 weeks almost 7 weeks post op this upcoming Monday. I've lost 30lbs overall since the last time I weighed myself which was on my one month post op on 1/12/17. However, I'm not seeing a difference or feeling much different and am beginning to feel discouraged. Does anyone have any advice? I don't want to feel like this anymore. Also, what is or was everyone eating at this point in their journey? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

This is my first post on this forum. I am almost 7 years post surgery- April of 2009. I went into surgery weighing 344lbs. As of this morning I am 236lbs, not my lowest, but the lowest I have been in about 3 years. I got to 222 in 2010 and then stalled. Fast forward a couple of years, I was back to a high of 265! I had quite a bit of early success- I felt that my brain was at least 6 months behind my body. They are now finally in synch, but it was not pleasant... I think this is one of the biggest issues that wasn't talked about in my pre/post surgery meetings. As I have become more active, I've had to have surgery to repair one of my very flat feet. Ironic…

Hi guys! As I am preparing for my band to bypass revision, my doctor made it crystal clear I have to stop smoking. I have been smoking for about 5 years, which is terrible for me to even say, and I know I have to. if it came down to it I know I could just torture myself and do it cold turkey, but I am asking for advice or things that people have done that has helped them. I am considering the nicorette gum but again just asking for advice! Thank you!

Hi there! I am looking for people who have had WLS or are going to get WLS this year in the NY/LI area. My band to bypass is scheduled for 04/05/17 with Dr. Ahmad! I also have instagram and Facebook. Even if you aren't in the area but you are planning on having WLS in the spring, it would be cool to have some people to chat with aside from support groups!

Hi all. I just wanted to share a great, new cookbook that I found. It's called: Fresh Start Bariatric Cookbook by Sarah Kent. It is for all surgery types and has recipes for all diet stages. Recipes look simple and include Breakfast, dips and sides, dinners, drinks and Desserts, and dressings, sauces and seasonings. I purchased it at Barnes and Noble for $15.99 and it is on Amazon for the same price. Enjoy! For Breakfast I had a banana premier Protein shake. I didn't pay attention to how long it took me to drink it. Pretty much the same amount of time it usually takes me. At the half way point I began to feel kinda nauseous, so and weak. Like a anxiety attack. I can't tell if it is just an anxiety attack or am I experiencing dumping? I did have a emotional morning ( stupid hormones) It's been 30 mins and I'm a little better no more nausea but still Shakey and weak. I'm 12 days post op Sent from my Y538 using the BariatricPal App

I am one month post-op (RNY gastric bypass) and have started having symptoms that could suggest a stricture and/or a marginal ulcer. Everything I've read seems to say that endoscopy (tube w/tiny camera down your throat) is the "gold standard" for determining if you have either of these conditions. However, my doctor is wanting me to go through an upper GI (studies have shown that these fail to find ulcers in their early stages fairly frequently). I am reluctant to go through a third upper GI in a month simply because that is a lot of radiation in a short period of time. So, my question for those of you who have ever had a suspected a stricture and/or an ulcer…

I got caught in pouring rain yesterday and had to run to the car. It felt amazing! I was able to do it. It was the first kind of vigorous activity I've done since surgery (RNY 12/8/2016, I think I've been taking it too easy). Now I feel like I can take on the world and can't wait to get on a treadmill. Gonna wait until I've lost more weight to jog because my knees would hate me if not, but what a motivator it was to get caught in the rain. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Today I got a phone call from my insurance advocate. She said that she was submitting my info to the insurance company today. I'm so happy! Apparently I don't have to wait to do my 3 month supervised diet because I've been a patient of my surgeon for years. My doc and her say that my insurance is one of the best that they almost always approve for revision sugery, especially when it's due to the Lapband. She set a projected surgery date of March 1st!!!! I am super excited. I'm praying that everything goes well and that I'll be able to have all my finances in order by then. This is something I have been living with for years and I'm just so relieved to know that this horr…

Hi everyone, This is my first post! I'm 1/2 way done with my 6 month insurance requirements. I had lapband placed 1/2008 and had zero success. My doctor said he would like to do the sleeve on me but bypass is an option depending on what he finds with scarring. I'm fine with either procedure. My question is what are the possible complications with bypass? The one I'm most curious about is when the intestines wrap around or get tangled. Something about when theY are placed back inside the body they are incased in fat and as you lose weight the intestines become loose as well? Does that sound familiar to anyone? Any information would be great. Thanks!! Sent from my iPh…

Hey everyone! Just curious what kind of pain meds are prescribed after surgery. I'm not a fan of heavy duty pain killers, and was wondering if managing the pain with ibuprofen/everyday pain pills would be appropriate. So you know the whole "mic drop" thing? Hubby and I use cloth napkins with napkin rings. Tonight after, once again, I ate a third of my dinner, I put my napkin in the ring, held it up, and dropped it on the table. "Napkin drop."

Hi, brand new here. I'm not sure where to post this. I'm also not sure what's happening to me. I ate good food all day (tofu & veg & lentils) but I had homemade mac and cheese with asparagus for dinner. They were brown rice and quinoa noodles. Now I'm sweating, my heart rate is very fast, I'm breathing fast and my insides are gassy and moving around like crazy. It feels similar to a panic attack, but with a throw up factor. Is this dumping? Is there an antidote, like drink milk, drink Water, eat Protein? Or do I just need to wait it out? Any help is great! Thanks.

Hello everyone, I've been lurking this forum since day 1 of my op on 24 oktober 2016. I have lost 60pounds already with another 40 to go as my final aim. My food intake is normal, with the occasional eating too fast and it will come back out as fast as it went in. Other then that I have had no issues at all. I am very satisfied with the numbers I am pulling down, however with only 40 pounds left too go, I am so amazed my body fat is so visible still. I still have the double chin and my belly fat is "large". Does the inches fly off once you reach your final weight? Or will you always keep your belly? I'm quite concerned that I still have so much fat once…

If feeling older than you look appeals to you, take a seat while you read this: A recent study found that women who sit longer than 10 hours a day, combined with low physical activity, have cells that are biologically older — eight years older to be exact — than their actual age. The study looked at the lifestyles of 1,500 women, between the ages of 64 and 90, who are part of a Women's Health Inititative (WHI) — a national study on chronic disease and postmenopausal women. Researchers found that women who sat for more than ten hours per day, and exercised less than 40 minutes daily, had shorter telomeres — the caps at the ends of DNA strands which protect chromosomes.…
