Hi All. Love this app; it has so much useful info, encouraging people, and wonderful success stories. I am still doing research to see if a surgery is for me. I definitely need to make a life change. I am wondering how much time you all needed for recovery? Is there some time need prior to the surgery as well? I work full time and am trying to see how much time away i would need. Thanks for any and all replies. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Hi, My name is Christine and I'm 14 days post Roux en y and of course my Dr says no carbonated drinks but I've had friends who have had this surgery and they say if u really want soda then just dilute the Diet Coke with 1/2 Water and ice. At first this sounded like really bad advice but I've tried it for the last 48 hours and have hard no issues. I'd like to hear what u guys have to say on the subject!!! Hi. New to this site and forum. I had RNY GSB on October 20, 2016. For four weeks I had ongoing cramps on my left side that moved around. One was the pain from the muscle incision someone else wrote about. That resolved. But at four weeks I still had this almost constant sharp pain on the left just under my rib cage. It felt/feels like I suddenly ran and got an ache in my side multiplied by 50. Nothing showed on the scan. My surgeon suspected adhesions or scar tissue to be at the root of it. So two weeks ago, I went under again for an "exploratory" and for her to remove scar tissue. There was scar tissue that she did remove but not as much as she thought would be the…

Granted I'm only a week out from surgery, but I can't stop crying! I'm not in pain, so I don't know why I have such a feeling of regret. One minute I'm so full of hope, and the next I'm terrified. Please tell me this gets better. GBP was not an overnight decision for me, it was a four year, so I thought I'd be more mentally prepared. Hi. Does anyone know how malabsorption affects time released medication? Or doesn't it? I take two RXs that are time-released. My doctor changed one but it isn't as effective. Now that I can swallow better, I'm going to try the original one I was taking and see how it goes. Want to have more info when/if I ask him to return me to my original dose. Thanks in advance.

Every night he makes me a huge bowl of snow ..... and I cover it with sugar free/fat free/no calorie snow cone syrup from Ralph's online store. Ralph has tons of sugar free flavors like blue raspberry, Hurricane, fuzzy navel, sour watermelon and so many more. A wonderfully sweet, filling day-ender that helps with my Fluid consumption. How many calories per day should a gastric bypass patient be eating at two years post op? Someone in my support group who has been very successful, is still eating 800 to 1,000 calories a day at two years post op. It seems really low to me especially the 800. My nut gave me a print out at 6 months. The calories per day were 1,200. I'm just curious what you are doing if you are successful and 2 years out from RNY. Thanks in advance.

Hello fellow Bypassers. This evening before my VFW Auxiliary Meeting I went to our local Rutter's Convenience Store and got the sugar free French vanilla cappachino. Figured it would be a win win for me since I am now on puréed and at that point I was hungry. I dumped for the first time today and it sucked! I read an interesting article on Fiber today and I am still trying to absorb it. Some of the key points are: It is important to consume a minimum of 25-30 grams of fiber per day. It should be a natural fiber from real plant food rather than processed or refined fiber produced industrially like inulin powder. We have a massive microbe community that live mainly in our lower intestines (colon). These microbes line the wall of our gut and their numbers reach generally 100 trillion microbes. These microbes digest high fiber foods (that we cannot) and extract the key nutrients. Humans produce around 17 digestive enzymes while microbes have thousands. These microbes (ma…

I'm 6 months post mini gastric bypass. I'm at my goal weight. I have been miserable with gas and painful bloating ever since I went on solid food. Everything seems to trigger it. I'm constantly uncomfortably bloated and the gas is horrendous. It's ruined the joy of my weight loss. I'm eating or trying to eat a paleo diet. I eat small portions, fist size or lower. I chew chew chew. What can I do? I'm seriously considering giving up all solid foods. My fiber and protein intake is huge. Does this ever end?

  38. Hi, I have had my first consultation with my surgeon. Hoping to have the Bypass next March, yippee! However, I am scared that I will experience malabsorbtion after the operation. I am currently on an SSRI and a SRI (antidepressants) and they are essential to my wellbeing, my worry is that after the op, my medications won't be absorbed properly and that I will have complications with the medication. The surgeon assured me that it wouldn't happen, he said that its more Vitamins and minerals that are concerned with malabsorbtion. Anyway, has anyone had any problem with malabsorbtion and antidepressants? P.S I am currently over 145kg. Apparently my ideal weight is <…

I'm currently 350 pounds and am tentatively looking at a June gastric bypass surgery.
