Hi I am Darrell. My story is a little different. I got diagnosed with gastroparesis and within a month i had gastric-bypass. I had no counseling, no information about what life would be like afterwards. I am about 100 pounds overweight so the weight loss will be great, but that was not my primary reason for getting the surgery. I had one visit with a nutritionist. It seems that most of you had a lengthy process to go through to get your surgery. I am 12 days post op and really nervous about what the future holds. Has anyone had any type of similar situation?

I felt like I was very prepared for everything that occurred when I went for my surgery Wednesday. The nurses and doctors seemed to respond well when I knew the answer to some of their questions. I'm home now and I'm only tolerating Jello in micro amounts and Water. Not supposed to add a Protein shake ( 1 through the whole day) until tomorrow. Also the endocrinologist in the hospital reduced my insulin already by a lot!!!! I'm finding the hardest thing is getting up and down....and finding a comfy way to rest. My abdominal muscles really ache. Overall....I'd say I'm still thrilled with my decision to have the surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the Bari…

Hello. It's been a long time since I came on this site or posted. I am scared to death to write this post, as I already know what many of you will say and I also know most of the answers. I'm so scared of all of you because everyone has success stories and I am a complete, dire failure. I had my revision from band to GB last June. I have a lot of emotional problems that are being treated with many medications and weekly therapy. My really good therapist has little experience in WLS or food addiction. We've tried to communicate my issues, but seriously, each time I go in there is a new legitimate crisis that must be addressed first. She speaks about using EMDR to combat my…

Hi all, I'm due to have my surgery at the end of next month, but I'm concerned the surgery may affect my ability to do my job. I have a job that requires heavy lifting and strenuous work in sometimes very hot conditions. On a hot day I could consume 8 ltrs and still end up dehydrated by shift end. Can anyone tell me if they think I will be able to get enough Water to function? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I was floating along just fine until last Thursday, which was three weeks post-op. That day I had horrible upper and lower abdominal pain all day. I had terrible gas and six bowel movements, which got looser as the day went along, ending in yellow diarrhea. Friday it was better but by day's end it was back to horrible pain and yellow diarrhea again. Middle of the night I woke up in pain so bad I thought I was going to pass out, had another bowel movement, and it eventually passed. Saturday morning I called my surgeon, was told to just do fluids that day, and if it didn't get better to go to the ER. The pain was better all day but still had a BM that evening, same thing. T…

I'm a bit confused about Water intake.....I know I'm supposed to sip water all day except half an hour before and after eating. My question is do I take a drink once every 5 min like the way I do with my food or just continually sip? I'm trying to understand if I can only do like 5-6 tbs in 30-45 min of food how does it not stretch the pouch if you put more water in it by sipping constantly? I am only getting a litre of water in at this point. 16 days post op. Any advice is appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I developed a GI need after surgery (10/19). I got readmitted to the hospital and released again yesterday 10/22 once the bleed seemed to significantly slow and my hemoglobin stabilized. They mentioned it might still see blood for a bit but I had more this morning (toilet) and it makes me super nervous. Being monitored closely and going to get tested again tomorrow. Just wondering how long I might still see blood. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I've noticed that I feel hungry a lot. I'm 6 month post op RNY. I used to drink a Protein powder with milk and coffee in the morning but I've switched to having an egg with toast or yogurt with fruit, etc. but I've noticed I've been snacking a lot and I'm nervous about my increased appetite. What are some suggestions for foods that keep you feeling full? I actually consumed 1700 calories yesterday vs my average 900-1100 calories. Yikes! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I am 4 weeks post rny. HW 371 Pre op 364 Sw 345 Cw 322.8 Gw 199 I have been having issues with pain management lately. I was off all pain meds by my 1 week post op but was having some pain in my rib cage. I asked my surgeon about it and he basically brushed it off saying it's nothing. I saw him again this last week. Still in pain in my ribs and he again brushed it off saying they will be tender for a while. for the past 48 hours the pain has gotten to the point I had to start back on pain meds. I've used ice heat everything I can think of to help this pain. I'm also on my period and the pain seems to have gotten worse with the on set of my period. I am so …

So ive read on here that most insurance requires 6 months of nutrition appointments.... my first nutrition appointment isnt until December 15th! Does that mean I won't even be considered for surgery until june of 2017??? Im so worried about that because the company I currently work for is not doing so well and may even close its doors before then. I have bc/bs insurance. My surgeon is out if Gainesville Fl. So I had RNY on Tuesday and while I'm almost 25lbs down since 9/6 I noticed a new weird symptom- I'm constantly freezing!!! I used to always be the one who would say it's hot and crank fans and AC but just now I had to walk out of church and go sit in the hot car to warm up. My hands and feet were turning pale and blue just from sitting in sacrament meeting. Is this normal? I didn't think it would happen so fast! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Did anyone else feel this way at first too? I'm having a hard time with getting the Vitamins and Protein down and last night I woke up several times choking on regurgitation. Need some advice. I'm about 12 weeks out RNY. I've been doing great with my weight loss and with walking everyday. I decided to add strength training to my routine twice a week. I feel great but have also been feeling exhausted- if that makes sense. Lol I'm having a hard time with fluids. I work a fast pace job and barely able to drink 12-oz during my work day. Then pushing fluids after work isn't easy either. Might get 36oz a day...52oz on strength training days. Im sure this could this be causing exhaustion. I'm getting about 800+ calories most days. My question is...my trainer wants me to increase carbs...good carbs...for working out. Is this something I should do? I'm…

Hello All, I had the gastric bypass on Aug 22 (5 weeks post op), and I have stalled several times since surgery (lost weight the first week, stalled weeks two and half of three, lost weight half of week three, stalled week four and five). I have lost a total of 18 lbs since surgery, but have gone up two lbs, and lost one of the two, and am pissed! I am following my surgeons guidelines perfectly! I drink at least 90 oz of Water, eat 80-90 grams of Protein, stay under 800 calories (usually around 600-700 calories daily).... I don't snack, avoid carbs/sugars, and unneeded foods. I walk at least a half hour a day (usually more), and take my Vitamins. What can I do to make …

Hi all I'm not a bypass I'm a sleever but my husband did the bypass. He has lost 240lbs in 13 months. I have watched him over the past year become so unhappy. He finally talked about what he was feeling the other day and it is really weighing on our marriage. He said he feels like a Frail old man. Has no muscle ton and no butt ( lol) but his diet is pizza and chicken parm. He is it a fruit or veggie eater before or after surgery so I know he is undernourished and does not take his Vitamins and depression meds on a daily basis. He doesn't want to lose anymore weight and he doesn't know how to stop it. Has anyone reached their goal weight and been able to maintain it? …

At my puréed stage,I began to have issues with the food going down. I had an endoscopy, and they found that some of my surgical staples had migrated and caused an ulcer, ultimately causing a structure. I was only 6 weeks out, so they weren't able to dilate me. The GI doc told me to come back in a month and he would attempt to dilate me when I was more healed. I contacted my bariatric surgeon who told me to just deal with the GI doc. The GI doc told me to come back in a month. I guess no one seemed to care that I was NOT eating ANYTHING. Water was the only thing that could go down. 4 weeks later, I had another endoscopy. The ulcer was unchanged and deep so they were not ab…
