I understand low fat and low carb but is the liquid diet truly just to get you used to the diet after surgery?

I am going through bariatric classes to get ready for surgery and our bariatric team told us it was to shrink our liver before surgery. They are very strict about it.

It is to shrink your liver. My surgeon does not require one. I am just on a well balanced pre op diet until my surgery in December.

I just do not understand how chewing food effects the liver. I mean i can eat low fat low sugar low carb but why does everything have to be liquid?

Chewing food doesn't affect the liver. Chewing food and the liquid diet after is so the your smaller stomach can handle it.

The liquid diet pre op is help shrink the liver and also gives Water weight loss so it is easier to work around. The liquid post op is to get your stomach used to intake.

The liver is right in the way and can fracture (not my word, the Drs) easily. So the liquid diet before is so it shrinks and can easily be moved around. After surgery is to give the pouch and other area time to heal. Is what I was told.
