Coming up on the 6 month mark and feeling great! I'm down 73lbs! I have a lot of new found energy and have been working out like crazy. I'm been using the new Patches Vitamins because I am not good with them orally. And the gummies are too sweet. Is anyone using the patches, I go in two weeks for 6month bloodwork so I'm hoping they are working! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hi everyone. I am 8 days out from a lap band to gastric bypass surgery. I am finding it hard with the stage 1 diet because mostly everything like the sugar free puddings and Jello are just too sweet and my only savory option is broth and Water. I am getting really discouraged because I have never been a person to endulge in sweets only savory foods. Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App

Has any one had this surgery and suffered previously from any bowel conditions? I have had long term diarrhoea problems which I've had all investigations done for and nothing ever diagnosed. My surgeon has just told me today she's concerned about the issue with my bowel being a complication (4 weeks out from my scheduled surgery) and wants me to yet again see a gastroenterologist. I was just wondering if any one else has had similar issues pre surgery and how they manage now? Also is diarrhoea a major problem for any one after surgery?

I am 4-1/2 months postop. A month ago I decided to save time by having a super Protein drink for Breakfast -- 1.5 c unsweetened silk soy milk, 2 scoops of BioTrust powder (20g protein) and 1 scoop of whey isolate (22gr protein) in a shake. It kept me full for 5 hours, but I got super constipated and was on a plateau during that time. Im turning over a new leaf, reviewed my very lean and lean protein lists and am taking benefiber daily. Hello all, I've had Gastric bypass March 8th. I noticed that I really don't have anyone to talk to that has been through it or someone that is going through it.. Just need someone to be able to ask question and find out if anyone is experiencing the same or similar things that I am going through....

I'm trying to understand why this is still so difficult for me, sharing my before/after pics. And I think, in part, it comes down to the fact that no matter how much weight I lose, or what number I am on the BMI chart, in my head, and through my eyes, I will always be obese. But you know what? That's okay, because if that's the highest price I have to pay - just tell me who to make the check out to, because it pales in comparison to everything I gained in return. Plus I will never forget as a pre op how motivating seeing other before/after pics inspired me. It's really important to me to pay that debt back. Brace yourself, because here comes the dreaded cliche: We…

Hello everyone I am new to this site. I have a question though. I have finished all of my requirements for the surgery besides, seeing the nutritionist next month and losing the 15lbs. I'm at a point of excitement and I'm ready to see my surgeon. The first consultation I had was with her Nurse Practitioner, however it was suppose to be with her but she wasn't in. I let that slide. Now I'm stuck again because she is out on leave. No one has returned my calls and I'm worried about getting surgery done from her because she is never around. My surgery is suppose to be done at John Hopkins Bayview Hospital in Baltimore MD. I requested to see another surgeon there and they said…

I had my surgery on 8/19/2016 and I am still on the puréed foods part of my diet. First couple of weeks my stomach tolerated everything (yogurts, refried Beans, different temperature waters, cottage cheese, foods from my approved list). I watch carbs and sugars. However, it's like my new pouch woke up this week and now every time I eat something I dump (yuck!). It's got to the point now even thinking about food is starting to make me sick. Will this go away or is this something that I need to adapt to? Also, what are some basic foods that are super easy for the pouch to tolerate? Like brands of yogurt (or if some people just can't eat yogurt). Please help as goi…

Hi all. I literally just had surgery. Went in 4 1/2 hours ago. I'm up, walking around, doing that spirometer w no coughing. No problems. Knock wood! I imagine the diladid (sp) helps, but still in all...it's NOT a nightmare. I did lose 25 pounds this summer on my own and exercised a fair amount. I'm sure that also helps. Tmr I could be writhing in pain w complications galore, but for now I feel fine. Don't let the horror stories scare you. Make sure your surgeon and program is a Center of Excellence. Mine is. HW 279. SW 245. Goal weight ????? I honestly don't know. Good luck to all of you. If you're contemplating but scared, as NIKE says...just do it is my recommendation. …

I am a month and a week after RNY. I am losing but my arms are just bugging the crap out of me. They're now misproportionately larger than the rest of me and so what fits my body now doesn't fit my arms. Have you done anything that really helped get rid of the arm fat? If so, what? I don't wanna have big muscular arms. Just get rid of the fat. ~~ LadyDarkness415 ~~

Hi all, so my recovery since August 18th has been pretty uneventful with one exception: I have never gotten my 64 oz. hydrating fluids goal achieved. I have no problem with Protein drinks or my purées, only problem is getting in the hydrating fluids. Whenever I drink the clear hydrating fluids (Water, decaf tea, Crystal Light) I can get a sip of about 1.5 teaspoons in no problem. But if I try to take another sip within 5-10 minutes I get a strong pain/pressure in the middle of my abdomen, strong enough that it makes me stop and wince. It does not hurt in my pouch which is much higher up. The pain is about 6-7 inches above my belly button and feels like tight gas press…

I'm back again, but not doing too well. I finally got my official approval date for surgery yesterday and I thought this was supposed to be a happy moment/day for me, but it hasn't. My fiancé and I aren't really on speaking terms and we had an argument (not wls related) two days ago and haven't really communicated much since then. We speak, but it's not our normal conversations and its to the point where we're sleeping in two different rooms. I feel overwhelmed and a bit depressed. I feel like now a part of me is ready to walk away and then part of me wants to try and work it out. I've built so much with him that just the thought of walking away scares me especially with …

No I'm not approved, BUT I found a Protein that I like!! People who have issues with taste and aftertaste then try the pre made Premier Protein shakes! The do have that smell. BUT they don't taste like it! Not one bit!! Thank god!! I've tried so many things and I was getting worried that I wouldn't be able to do the pre op diet because I can't stand protein shakes!! I see so many posts about what people should and shouldn't eat....Its not a one size fits all.....I go by what MY surgeon and nutritionist advise ....some say no carbs....some say low carbs...some say a well balanced diet focusing on protein first....You trusted your surgeon to do the procedure...now trust in his/her team to aid you in the results you dream of achieving! I have buckled down! Watched everyday what goes in my mouth (both food & liquid) written down not only what I have eaten but the calories, fat content etc. keeping my calories at 1750 or lower. I was going to the gym getting back to the routine that I was in prior to my daughter leaving for college and my father suddenly passing away. In about 2 weeks I was down 7 pounds, to say totally over the moon was an understatement. Now today I weigh and I gained 4.6 pounds in 7 days!!! Why the sudden weight gain in the short amount of time? What do I do? I had gastric bypass 5 years ago, my heaviest was 265, my lowest was 128. My dr.'s goal weight for me was 175, I eventual…

Dr. J. Carson Smith from the University of Maryland in College Park and colleagues wanted to know what happens to the brains of older folks who exercised vigorously and often; if they stopped exercising. The report of their study was published in the journal Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience. In particular, they investigated what would happen to the blood flow to two parts of the brain — the overall cerebrum (controls voluntary actions, emotions, etc.) and the hippocampus (area under cerebral cortex important for learning and memory). They recruited 9 adults (7 men, 2 women) -- master athletes from local running clubs — older than 50 years (age range was 50-80) who had …

Hey everyone! I'm new to the BP website/forums. Just curious as to how old everyone was/is/will be when they had/have their surgery! I'm looking for help. I was doing well for a few years after surgery but life happened and I got COMPLETELY off track. I've moved and the local practice at last check wanted $3000 to follow me. Needless to say I didn't go since I couldn't afford them. I've been following different sites and just have a hard time with coming up with the money for multiple shakes on a daily basis. I work 6 days a week between 8-12hrs a day or more. The one thing I want to do on my day off is REST not exercise. Exercise it the last thing I want to do at all after putting in so many hours in a day and week. Any suggestion would be welcomed. Please don't berate me. I'm human. I fell off and no…

I had RNY on 8/20/2016, I am 30 years old and no did not have any other problems beside PCOS before surgery. Today, I was sitting on my couch watching Netflix and all of a sudden I just vomited (no warning). It shot straight out on floor. Just some Water and what I believe was bile came out. So raced to the bathroom and puked a small amount in the toilet. I had not been eating just drinking water. I had ate earlier at 5:00 pm (no problems). So I go back out to living room to collect myself and obliviously my stomach hurts. So I just take a look and my indent where my biggest incision on right side is gone. It was there earlier when I showered. It was a pretty good inde…

Hello, I want to start off by telling you all a liitle about me. My name is Jennifer. I'm 52 and I live in Central California. I have struggled with my weight most of my adult years. Tried every diet. Been successful at diets but only to gain the weight back and then some. About ten years ago I looked into weight loss surgery but the insurance that I had at that time (Blue Shield/Blue Cross California) did NOT cover it. So I went on with my life gaining weight, trying to accept that I was going to be overweight the rest of my life. I have been on a couple of diets since then and had success but like I said I put the weight back on. October 2012 my Mom passed away…

What exactly is the 3-6 month nutritional counseling phase? What exactly is the point of it? Are they trying to see if you can lose weight on your own? Or are they trying to see if you have the ability to follow a program since you will have to after surgery? Just wondering. I have not met with anybody yet about surgery.
