Hello everyone, I'm in early pre-op stage of surgery, completing checklists, evaluations, etc. I've attended my first five pre-op support groups. So my question is, how much on average, does it cost monthly, for all of the Protein, Vitamin and nutrient supplements that will be required post-op? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My surgery is on August 17th. I've lost 35lbs on my preop diet. My dr wants me to lose 40. Would it mess up my surgery if I ate stir fry from Mongolian Bbq? Just a tiny bit of chicken and a ton of veggies and very little oil. No rice or tortillas or that? I am having a very hard time with only having sweet things but I also don't want to screw up my surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  10. Dr. Mary Hickson from Plymouth University in Plymouth, UK, and colleagues published a preliminary food intake. * Acyl.-ghrelin: activated form of ghrelin * GLP-1:glucagon-like peptide: when glucose levels in the blood rise, GLP-1 induces the pancreas to release insulin and thus promote normal glucose levels. * PYY: Peptide YY is released in response to feeding and reduces appetite. Analysis of the hormonal levels in the women in each age group showed that, compared to the 60-79 age group, the 80+ group demonstrated a higher level of PYY than did any other age group. http://acsh.org/news/2016/08/08/appetite-control-in-the-elderly-might-help-the-young-control-eating…

  12. Researchers in the United States and Australia conducted a meta-analysis of 174 studies published between 1980 and 2016 that examined the effect of exercise on five chronic diseases: breast cancer, colon cancer, diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Study authors observed that, to a certain point, the more a person exercised, the lower his or her risk of all five conditions. But the sweet spot for health gains occurred when individuals had a total activity level of 3000-4000 metabolic equivalent (MET) minutes a week, according to a news release. Benefits halted beyond an activity level of 4000 MET minutes a week. http://www.foxnews.com/health/2016/08/10/researchers-ide…

I'm 4months post op and haven't lost any weight in a month. And I went to the doctor and they told me I was behind.. I should have lost more weight than I have. Ive lost 74lbs in 4months. I'm not sure what Im doing wrong but it's upsetting. I'm stuck between 250-254lbs..im tracking my calories and protein intake and it's good..I walk 3 miles every morning and use my resistance bands... I only eat 4oz three times a day and it's white meat and veges... I don't know what to do. This can't be the end of my weight loss... I started at 328lbs and need to get to 165lb!!!

Hi. I am a year out from my RNY. I was non compliant all that time. I did not gain any weight but I also did not lose. All my fault, yes. Recently, I was somehow ready to jump back on the wagon, thank goodness!!!! The problem I'm having is, I have NO appetite, I feel nauscious (I Can NOT spell that!!!) at the idea of eating food. When I am able to eat, it's thankfully a bird's portion. Protein and veggies/fruit. I am now losing weight, but I can't get myself to eat several times a day, no matter how yummy the food is. Right now, I'm going to eat Hummus and a baby cucumber, but I'm not pleased that I have to eat. And I love hummus. My food goes down well. And I'm drinki…

Struggling!!! A whole year has gone by already and I have received more negative than positive from family and so called friends. Now I am concerned and feel ashamed because I have not lost as much as I should have. I did not even Celebrate my first surgerversery (sp). Just healing from two major surgeries at the same time (RNY & gallbladder) was enough but now I realize that the negative reactions sent me more into a depressive state. My starting weight was over 500, maybe there is a willing buddy out there who has been successful with losing a massive amount of weight too.

I've been getting worried at the amount of food I can eat now that I'm almost 6 months post op....for Supper last night I was able to eat half of a 7oz piece of salmon and roughly half of a baked sweet potato....at this point I wasn't stuffed...didn't really feel "full" either ....then for breakfast this morning we were meeting friends at Denny's and I had no problem eating 2 over easy eggs and 2 pieces of bacon....this just scares me! [emoji53]. Anyone else have these fears? I still have a long ways to go...I'm sitting at 233 and my surgeons goal weight for me is 155.... I started this journey at 324... Surgery weight 295.

I am on day 1 of my pre-op diet, and I was wondering if there's a danger of getting too much Protein? My Protein shakes have 30g, and if I drink 4 then I am already at 120. That does not include any I might get from bone broth, or sugar free pudding made with milk, etc. Is there a high end protein limit I should avoid? Thanks, I really appreciate it. 30. Hi guys. This is my first day on here. Today I started my two week pre-operative liver reduction diet. My surgery is booked on 11th August. So two weeks tomorrow. I have no weight related illnesses. So in that respect I'm very lucky. However I'm so anxious and scared. Hi everyone, I'm about 11 months out and recently (about the last two weeks or so) have started having nausea after I eat. This morning, for example, I drank some coconut water and a protein shake after my morning workout. Later, after I got to work, I ate a luna bar and feel nauseated and yucky. Has anyone else experienced something similar a ways out from surgery? If it continues or gets worse, I'll definitely call my bariatric clinic. Just want to see if anyone has insight in the mean time. Thanks!

A study by David Cummings et. al. published in Diabetalogia investigated the mounting evidence indicates that Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) ameliorates type 2 diabetes. 32 adults were divided into 2 groups. In the ILMI [intensive lifestyle and medical intervention] group, the individuals performed ≥45 min of aerobic exercise 5 days per week, a dietitian-directed weight- and glucose-lowering diet, and optimal diabetes medical treatment for 1 year. In the RYGB group, the individuals received Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB). Diabetes remission at 1 year was 60.0% with RYGB vs 5.9% with ILMI (p = 0.002).
