I had surgery April 8, 2014 and was down a total of 90 lbs. I have slowly started gaining weight. I'm now only down 50 lbs. I need to get back on track, but I'm having the hardest time. At this time I'm able to pretty much eat anything, and much larger amounts then I used to after surgery. Any tips or advise will be greatly appreciated. I NEED to get back on track soooo bad. Any by the way, I have not had a Protein shake in over 6 months. I should prob start with those again as a Meal Replacement. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I am overwhelmed. When I say you can't beat God's timing. I have pleaded my heart to my family, tried to get insurance through job's to cover surgery and even asked for charitable donations. Nothing worked. This started when I was 19 years old. 14 years later I was blessed with an amazing job with great benefits that cover bariatric surgery. I started my process on March 30, 2016 and finished July 6, 2016. All of my information was submitted to my insurance on July 18, 2016 and on July 25, 2016 I received a call that would change my life forever. I was APPROVED! Surgery date 8/15/2016. I start my liquid diet 8/1/2016. When I say I need somebody to pinch me and wake me up…

My surgery date 7/26/16 finally arrived. Everything has gone smoothly so far, I'm just extremely groggy and thirsty. I've had no liquids in my mouth for the past 30 hours. My pain is minimal but I do have a bit of nausea which has improved in the last few hours. My starting weight in May was 271 lbs and my weight day of surgery was 251 lbs. My RNY date is 3 weeks away, and I'd like to do my shopping for the immediate post op period now, get reasonably stocked up. Here's what I have purchased so far: Plenty of Premier Protein shakes GENEPRO Protein powder Bone broth (more protein than regular broth) sugar free Jello and sugar free pudding packets Tiny medicine cups for drinking Sugar free beverage mixes w stevia I plan on getting a case or 2 of Water (my tap water is awful), some coconut water for variety, sugar free Popsicles. What else do you recommend? Keep in mind that I will be recovering alone mostly, I won't have someone on hand who can run out and grab something I might need. I'd really l…

I would like to hear from those who have to take pain meds for chronic pain issues after RNY. I am 62 years old. I started to take pain pills for arthritis, bone spurs, compressed discs in my back and other problems several years before my surgery, which was one year ago. I never could take NSAIDS so they were never an option for me even before surgery. Now that I have lost 138 lbs. I do feel the difference on my joints but I still have chronic pain from all the years of obesity and genetic reasons. I have noticed a difference in the the effectiveness of the Norco's that I take. They wear off more quickly and I find myself taking another pill before the 8 hours goes…

So I'm having this odd time, I'm almost 4 months out and I've lost 35kg, I'm over the moon but it's like someone has disconnected my body and brain! I can't recognise myself, I get freaked out when I see pictures of myself and I jump when I catch my reflection sometimes. I am sure this is probably normal and part of the adjustment but wow it's odd! Sent from my MI 4W using the BariatricPal App

I am a 5-days in on the liquid diet, so far so good. The only thing that is really hitting me hard is the lack of energy and the same liquids day in and day out. I have two different shake varieties, low fat/low sodium broth, sugar free Jello in different flavors, and lots of Water. The other thing is the food commercials, which never bothered me until now. Not that I am hungry, just looks tasty and makes me think of food for a brief moment. Oh yeah, and the day my boss had pizza he ordered right in front of me in the office space we share. That was rough, but I made it through. My surgery is scheduled for Thursday 7/28. I am excited, and nervous which is to be expected.…

So I am 5 days post op... You know how they say to keep walking and keep passing gas... Well I went to Lowes with my husband today after finally starting to feel better and figured I could use a walk... Well I passed gas at Lowes after about 20 min of walking and unfortunately it wasn't gas... I apparently had my first BM and I started my period since this body is all confused and shocked after surgery. I mean it was bad.... on the way to the restroom I started to leave black gross trail .... Sooo embarrassing! How come people don't talk about this lol others must know this can happen lol Good thing we live close so my husband went home while I was in a bathroom cleanin…

I am 4 days out from surgery. I had my drain removed today. The doctor wants me to have at least 1-3 Protein shakes a day. I had problems getting them down pre op and experimented with different flavors and brands. I just tried to get one swallow in and I gagged and heaved and vomited so violently I popped a stitch in my wound. I have this reaction every time. My family is telling me go to yogurt and egg whites since my doctor told me to do that next Friday. I am afraid it is too soon. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm tired of vomiting. Good evening everyone. I had a bad experience today. Last night my wonderful husband broiled shrimp for us. They tasted great! I ate 3 small shrimp with no side effects. We had left over shrimp so he re-heated them for us at lunch today. Within 15 minutes of eating 2 shrimp I became very ill- stomach cramps, nausea, and vomiting. This went on for about 4 hours. I finally had to go to bed and sleep it off. Has anyone else had this happen with leftovers? The good news is I'm down 14 lbs since my bypass date of 6/27. I got bypass on 7/19 and I'm trying to figure everything out. My nutrition guides don't say anything about max serving size or times to consume thing. Day 5 I was supposed to start incorporating Protein drinks so I tried a Protein shake (Premier Protein with some pb2) and I was sick the rest of the night/ next day. I'm trying to figure out if it's what I'm eating or how fast I'm eating it. How long did it take you freshly post op to eat a Popsicle, drink some Soup, have a shake? What are the symptoms that you should stop (I don't get that full feeling anymore so I have no idea when enough is enough)? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had my band to bypass revision a few days ago on 7-20-16. I had to stay an extra day in the hospital because I couldn't pee on my own, but finally got to go home yesterday. Now I am just working on sipping protein water, walking around the house, and resting. I did manage to get 1 premier protein shake in today by taking small sips throughout the day. I am so glad to finally begin my weight loss journey. [emoji4]

So I have an Instagram and I enjoy showing off my fitness journey but I notice there's a bunch of people who're like "all natural weight loss" and "weight loss surgery is the easy way out". Yes, because getting my insides rewired is easy. So I had this one person try to sell me something from Herbalife and I kindly told them no and they literally said "you had that fat people's surgery, you probably need to cleanse your colon". Um, what. Have you ever been told surgery was the easy way out? What was your reply?

May 2010 I had a RNY. I spent 15 years starving myself and running/working out to stay below 300 pounds. I have PCOS since 11 years of age. I've been overweight my entire life despite diet and exercise. I met my bariatric surgeon he was charming and he was thrilled I ran and had no meds no diseases and I was the perfect candidate. He said I lacked will power despite exercising twice daily at the gym and 600 calorie diet. So I had the bypass done because he said it was the ultimate tool to get me back under two hundred pounds. He lied. All this surgery did was make it possible for me to starve myself permanently without feeling it. I initially lost 50 pounds of muscle …

Hello beautifuls! I'm at 3 months post-op and I feel great and am so much more active than I've been in YEARS! I am slightly concerned at my occasional increase in appetite... Sometimes I can only nibble a few bites, but more frequently I've felt like I'm eating more than I should be able to... Can I pretty please have some people who are at 3 months or have recently been there tell me what their normal portion size is for meals? Measured in cups or ounces would be super helpful... Hi everyone! Today marks one year since I got my lap band revised to gastric bypass. I've lost a total of 87 lbs so far. 275 to 188. I am 5'5" so I still have about 30-35 lbs I'd like to lose. I was very discouraged a few months ago, but I left my pity party behind and made sure I was sticking to eating well. This is not always easy! I have an appointment with a plastic surgeon in late August. I have some sagging skin on my stomach, inner thighs, and arms but nothing too horrible. Also of note, I have PCOS, which always made it harder to lose. The surgery has definitely helped with this and it seems to get easier to lose weight the more weight I lose. It seems c…

So, its almost a year and I'm excited but a little anxious about it. My weight has gone up and down and stalled but I finally am starting to lose more weight since being off risperidone. Here is a little update: I saw my PCP and she told me I was a little bit anemic and she told me to buy Iron pills. I already had been taken iron pills before my blood work so she just said increase to two a day. My PCP also put in a referral for me to see a GI for a colonoscopy and to see a new bariatric surgeon. I am still waiting for the calls. My aprn finally took me off risperidone and I am on vraylar and I have been for two days. I already lost .8 pounds. I am no longer tak…

So, I have medicaid and, since I've moved down here I have bad issues regarding my rny surgery (bleeding) and my new surgeon hasn't done anything about it. I got my lab work back from my PCP and my hemoglobin was low as well as a few other things. I am having some other symptoms and neither my surgeon or my PCP is doing anything. My mom is thinking about filing a lawsuit and, honestly, I don't think its worth it. It'll take too long, too much paper work but she is so headstrong about it. What do you guys think?

I have just started my process to have WLS. I go to my first appointment with a surgeon on Monday. I have attended his information class and he has verified my insurance will cover my procedure. I have done a lot of research on the procedures since discussing it with my PCP. I have began making some changes to help prepare for life after the surgery. I have already started retraining myself to not drink while eating and to wait for a while before and after my meals. I am no longer drinking from a straw. I have started looking for new recipes to make that fit in the new lifestyle. (One of my hobbies is cooking) I have purchased a food scale and something similar to a magic…

Today marks 4 weeks post op it has been a roller coaster of emotions, but over all I am SO happy! I can already see a huge difference in my self confidence. I feel great! There are moments when I miss comfort food and start to feel sorry for myself, but I just try to remind myself of my ultimate goal; to be healthy and that junk food isn't worth it! I've gotten sick twice (thrown up), I think from eating too fast, or too much. I'm still learning how much my stomach can handle, how slow to chew/swallow and everything. For many years prior to my Weight Loss Surgery, I was waiting for a magic bullet [no, not the blender] to come along and make it very easy for me to lose my excess weight. Some new drug or Vitamin that made the process very easy. Many weight loss drugs were introduced through the years but many had adverse side-effects, some were outright dangerous. Well, a new device called AspireAssist was just approved by the FDA. The device works by restricting caloric absorption and decreasing the rate of eating/chewing. Under conscious sedation and with the use of an endoscope, a tube is placed within the upper portion of the stomach, with the other end attached to the surface …

I'm having a hard time getting the Proteinshakes in......nothing seems to taste pleasant. I have had a hard last few months. I began to get sick around the 1st of March vomiting 5-6 a day and unable to really eat or drink anything. This went on for a month and a half straight. The vomiting stopped but since then I lost feeling in both my legs and feet. I spent over a week in hospital before they discovered I had a B1 deficiency. I've spent another week in a rehab hospital and then transitioned to in-home rehab. I now have feeling from my waist to the top of my knees. I developed bad nerve pain during this time and am now on Lyrica. Now my weight loss has seemed to stall and I'm very frustrated. I keep bouncing between the same 3 lbs. I go up then dow…

Hi, I've just started my weight loss journey a month ago. At my initial weigh-in I was a BMI of 37.5 with comorbidities which qualified me for a gastric bypass per my insurance company. As part of the pre-op routine, I have to do a three month diet and exercise program. I started the program and it's going well. Maybe too well. Right now my BMI is 36. If I keep going at this rate, I'll be below 35 by the time of my surgery, which is the cutoff. Am I going to prep myself out of they chance to have the surgery? I know if I don't have the bypass, I'll eventually just put the weight back on so I really need the operation. Anybody run into the same situation? Wil…

Hi y'all I had gastric bypass surgery on 7/13/16, everything went very well, I was only in the hospital overnight and I've had no pain or problems maintaining hydration. Yesterday I was told I can start the puréed part of the diet, Ive started off with cream based Soups and if there is anything in it I just blend it prior to consuming. My problem is I am consuming things slowly but I never feel full, is this normal? Is it basically because things are somewhat in liquid form? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hello all! I'm 34 and new to the group. I am a month+ out of gastric bypass surgery. Being from TN I am dealing with sinuses and allergies. I'm having a horrific time getting whole foods down and getting full quick due to drainage. I chew my foods slow and a lot. I know I'm not getting enough food because of this. What can I do? I have told my dr but he and the nutritionist just suggested powder protein with drinks. I still need to eat! Any advice welcome!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
