Help! I am 5 months post RNY. I had band to RNY revision and was laced with complications (leaking, feeding tube, fistuals, PICC line etc). I have a remaining gastro-gastric fistula which is not closing with conservative (wait and see) approaches. I have lost about 116lbs in 5 months. Still 80lbs from goal weight. I see from a medscape article there are many approaches to deal with fistuals. My question to those with gastro-gastric fistuals: 1) Did you have the fistula repaired? If so, by what method? 2) Has anyone lived sucessfully with the fistula and maintained weight loss? My fear is after going through this the fistula will stretch and I will lose the r…

Brains naturally shrink with age. Starting in middle age, the brains of obese people show startling differences in gray matter tissue versus white matter tissue compared to those of normal weight, according to an analysis of fMRI images. White matter tissue connects regions of the brain and allows for information to be communicated between those regions. Scientists looked at data from 473 individuals between the ages of 20 and 87 who were recruited by the Cambridge Centre for Aging and Neuroscience. It’s a cross-sectional study (it looked at data from individuals at only one point in time) so it can’t be conclusive, but they wanted an idea of how obesity impacts brain…

I'm just over three months out. The past 4 or 5 days, I've been working having strange issues in my chest. Understand ..I'm under a huge load of stress between my 12 year old with HORRIBLE..INSANE...ADHD.. my husband who is working two jobs and I see 15 minutes a day (also with horrible PTSD and highly grouchy working 18 hours a day and sleeping 3.) As well as myself going through a change of jobs. The issue is... I feel like food is stuck. I know it is not. I threw everything up last night to be sure. Since then I can hardly even drink my Water much less eat. I have eaten about half of a 1/8 pound hamburger patty and hardly drank. When I do, it feels tight in my ches…

Is there a simple app out there that lets us check off grams of Protein consumed, Water swallowed, minutes/hours of exercise? I am thinking it would be helpful after surgery, but many of the apps out there want yo start you with a calorie requirement, or set weight loss no higher than 2 pounds a week. What do you all use? I was encouraged by my doctor to do the depo shot due to the risks and effects of the others. So my question is...did any of you have the depo shot and did it mess with you loosing weight? I still need to lose 50 more pounds...please give me some insight. Thank you! ????????????

Hi, A week from yesterday I will be having Rouen Y surgery. I have noticed other members have been prescribed liquid diets for a pre-op diet and my provider has me on a 800-1000 calorie diet. I am really struggling with sticking to the eating plan. Should I switch to a liquid diet at this point so I won't face the cancelling of the surgery as my liver hasn't shrunk enough? Kinda nervous. Struggling!!! A whole year has gone by already and I have received more negative than positive from family and so called friends. Now I am concerned and feel ashamed because I have not lost as much as I should have. I did not even Celebrate my first surgerversery (sp). Just healing from two major surgeries at the same time (RNY & gallbladder) was enough but now I realize that the negative reactions sent me more into a depressive state. My starting weight was over 500, maybe there is a willing buddy out there who has been successful with losing a massive amount of weight too.

Hello to anyone who may be considering or have just had roux-en-y gastric bypass surgery. I see there is not a lot of activity going on in our local forum. I am 43 years old and mother of two wonderful children (24 & 7) I live on the north side of Brisbane and work full time. I have been overweight most of my life. I have dieted plenty and always put more back on. It's time to change and take control. I have been sitting back for nearly 2 years just reading the incredibly informative posts on this site (not to mention pouring over the success pics like crazy) and after waiting a year for my private health fund to mature I finally have a date. I am having RNYGB surger…

Hi everyone. I had my gastric bypass surgery 6 months ago. A few complications having had another surgery but so far so good. Have lost 68 lbs so far. I finding I am having no appetite for a few weeks now...have been skipping my morning high Protein shake. I eat a late lunch and therefore a late dinner. I seem to be very hungry at nite and am reaching for healthy foods but just seem to have gotten into this unhealthy practice. I haven't gained any weight, matter a fact have been losing. Am looking for someone to help with support and accountability. Also was exercising at the beginning but broke my foot on May 10th. Just this month has been feeling better. I liked doi…

Hi. I stopped using Protein shakes because my husband works third shift and sleeps till 4:00pm and I didn't want to wake him by making shakes in my Magic Bullet. I used to take protein shots (the liquid in tube) but stopped. I didn't have a clue what to do, until I found this Protein Drink on pinterest. And I LOVE it! I'm a decaf coffee drinker, hot and/or iced. So, I found that mixing a cup of cold coffee, creamer, Equal and a scoop of vanilla Protein powder and shake real hard, makes a great, refreshing glass of iced vanilla coffee! BAM! I found something pleasing to drink (3 times a day) Also, since it's freakin HOT outside, my ice melts real quick so I poured decaf …

2 weeks post op, suspect seroma under one of my incisions. It's hard and building, more painful and warm might be infected since I have a mild fever even though the scar itself healed well. After talking to dr on call when to get it checked out. Prayers are appreciated please, I am still emotional and chicken when it comes to stuff like this. Thanks all!

I am 4 days until surgery and I went into anaphylactic shock last night from antibiotics that I was never allergic to before. I'm fine now. Ran around doing stuff all day. I'm just scared that they aren't going to allow me to do surgery because of it. I've worked so damn hard to get where I am now. I'm down almost 20 lbs in the last week and a half on the liquid diet. Did anything like this happen to anyone else pre-op? What was the outcome? ~~ LadyDarkness415 ~~

Hello my name is Elizabeth, New to this and full of questions.I had my RNY bypass surgery on 7/14/16. Started on the eggs and some other soft foods on Friday. I'm seeming to have a heck of a time getting 64ounces of fluid in a day. I'm also having episodes of hunger couple hours after I eat.I'm not sure if its because I'm not really eating much solid or what the issue is. I'm also having episodes of depression and mood swings are these things normal? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using the BariatricPal App

I had gastric bypass on June 28....so a little over a month ago. I am on Phase 3 of the dieting. Phase 1 went well and phase 2 was ok. I had a hard time eating on Phase 2 but I tolerated it. Since starting phase 3 I have thrown up almost everyday. I started Phase 3 July 23rd. I get a very sharp pain in my side to the point I can't breath and I have to make myself get sick to feel any type of relief. I have tried canned chicken, grilled chicken tenderloins and still get sick. Everytime I try a new food I seem to get sick and then don't want to eat again. I have gotten sick on all kinds of food except seafood. My doctor is not too concerned with the little calorie…

Is there anyone I can connect with for accountability? I'm about 10 months post op and have only lost about 50 pounds. Shortly after my surgery, I got a new job,my dad passed with little warning, moved, had a huge work project, and now am dealing with my grandma-in-law about to pass. I haven't been on track with food OR exercise and I want to do better, but I lack the moment to moment focus and need someone to check in with me if I haven't checked in with them daily... even via email or something. Hello! My name is Jackie I am 27 I started my Journey on April 1st 2016 at my highest weight of 442 lbs. I had my Gastric Bypass with a packed wound on July 26th 2016 with my weight being 400 lbs. After my 3 day hospital stay I came home and weighed in at 410 lbs Although this made me sad I knew it was due to all of the added gas and swelling. I am 5 days post op today and my weight is 397 lbs. I wanted to join this community to see how others manage all of these new changes and to share my own as well as it serving as a sort of... diary. Hopefully I can communicate with people who want the same. I'd love to share any info I might have that someone needs and I am open …

I had my operation 3 weeks ago, an RNY bypass, and weighed this morning. To date I have lost 3 pounds. That loss includes the fasting before surgery and the day of 1 cup of yogurt only, plus the day I tried a scrambled egg and ended up blocking my pouch and not eating all day. A low BMI patient with a starting weight of 187.3 (at 5'4" my BMI was 32), I already had a very controlled caloric diet, eating only 900-1200 calories per day and essentially low carb. I was slowly gaining weight on that which is why I opted for the surgery. When the nutritionist went over my post-op diet I told her it was the same number of calories I was already eating but she had no reply to …

I met with my surgeon again yesterday... now I'm just waiting on a surgery date for my band to RNY. I'm really really excited, and a little scared, but mostly excited. I think what is making me quite nervous is going into work today to ask for the time off for 'necessary surgery'... I know my boss will be 100% supportive, he's great, but I feel guilty having the time off. I'm not telling anyone (for me it's no ones business) so I just wanted to tell someone I'm excited ???? Hello. I am a month out (yesterday) from gastric bypass. I have had a very difficult time getting fluids and food down since surgery. I have gone twice for fluids due to becoming dehydrated. My Dr. has me on nausea medication that helps some. I'm struggling the last few weeks with throwing up even if I'm not nauseated. I've thrown up Fairlife milk, chicken broth, Greek yogurt, applesauce, even Popsicles from time to time. Anytime I put food or liquids in my stomach, I feel heavy and bloated. Has anyone dealt with this? Did it get better quickly? I'm barely eating more than 3-5 Wheat Thins a day and drinking Gatorade. I'm miserable and am not sure what to do.

I'm scheduled for revision on August 29 - a Monday...taking the week off and then will have Labor Day off as well. My husband will be there for surgery and 2 days in hospital and bring me home...but then has an event out of town on Thursday that he wants to go to over the weekend. I was single when I had the lapband done and managed just fine. I have friends I can call. I am fine with him leaving, but just wanted to get some reassurance for both him and me. He feels bad (sort of) and I want him to go. Just need some idea of the condition I'll be in that first week. Thanks

Hi Everyone: I'm beyond excited to have my Gastric Bypass surgery on August 29, 2016, one month away, and I would love to have a support buddy/Mentor who is going through the same surgery or has already had it. I live in Mississippi and I'm 56... I'm looking for someone who is interested in having someone to team up with that we can help one another to give encouragement, and support to. I believe that a support system is imperative to having great success. I am ready to lose the old habits and looking forward to becoming the healthiest I can be. I am counting down the days! Please let me know if you are interested in a Buddy also.

I am 7 weeks out of RNY surgery. Have been sticking to plan, with the exception of a few days where I did not meet the minimum Protein and/or liquid requirements. Yesterday was such a day. For the first time since surgery I was hosting a family BBQ. I was so wrapped up in preparation that I did not take in any protein and not much liquid (>24 oz) until evening. I ate about ½ a hamburger (only burger nothing else) and, against my better judgement, about 4 bites of apple pie. Still no liquid. I should have known better. This was the second time I have tried hamburger since surgery and had the same result – vomiting within 30 minutes of eating. Fortunately this could be…

Ok, I have been reading for months, been to support meetings, on forums, and I can't understand one specific thing about hunger post-op. I hear both RNY and sleeve patients claim little to no hunger immediately post-op and through the honeymoon period. For the sleeve patients, it's bc they've removed a large portion of the stomach where ghrelin (hunger hormone) is produced. Makes sense. But then why do RNY patients feel no hunger, when that hormone-producing part of the stomach DOES remain in their body, creating hormones and digestive acids and sending them down the roux limb into the intestines to meet up with food that comes from the pouch. And I have heard t…
