I am a month post op. I am a revision from sleeve to RNY. The first week I lost 18 pounds. Absolutely nothing since. I have actually gained 2 pounds of that back with no reason to. I am now on regular foods and do everything I can to get Protein in with foods. I cannot drink the shakes because they make me sick. I have given up everything as I needed to. I eat chicken, fish, Beans, Greek yogurt, turkey, vegetables and little fruits. I drink Water only. I feel like this has failed me. I feel like I am doing everything I am supposed to. This is a true 3 week stall after only being a month out. I have measured and my measurements haven't changed during this time either. With…

Today is my one year anniversary of my surgery. It has been an amazing year and I have lost 180 pounds. I have reached my goal weight and I'm thrilled. In the old days, going out to eat would have been the way to Celebrate. That's not the case now. I'm looking for fun ways to celebrate my surgiversary. Any ideas?

Hey everyone! Today is exactly 4 months since my gastric bypass....I have lost exactly 50 lbs since surgery and 80 lbs total since I started this journey....I had a very rough month of April battling horrible diarrhea and then constipation! Finally for the past few weeks now I'm starting to feel somewhat back to normal [emoji3]....I have yet to start a regular exercise routine ...I know that's bad!! If only the weight would fall off as fast as my hair is lately! [emoji15][emoji37] Anyway..I would like to thank everyone for helping me along the way with any advice you have given to me...I find a lot of great information here...along with some humor and drama...makes for…

Just read the mini bypass has a risk of bile reflux developing? Wondering if I should just go ahead and get the full r n y and be done with it? My mini is scheduled in Mexico for June 27, would switching cause major differences? I will talk to the folks there tomorrow. Just with all my reflux issues don't want to take a chance to get it after. What say you all?

Hi all. I'm 4 days post op and having severe pains in my lower abdomen which make it difficult to move around. I called the on call registrar last night who wasn't concerned as I'm feeling well otherwise, tolerating fluids etc. The pain is really bad however. I have read my notes today and after googling the jargon it seems they found a lot of adhesions in my pelvis which they removed (adhesiolysis). Has anyone else had this done? I'm wondering if this level of pain is to be expected or if something is wrong? All advice welcome.

My RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery My name is Carla! I live in NJ I'm a 35 year old married mother of two. My weight loss journey started in March 2008. My son was one year old and I decided I no longer wanted to live my 300lb unhealthy lifestyle! I wanted to live to be able to see my Son grow and I wanted to be able to play with him and not watch from the side lines. I had my gastric bypass surgery Sept 15 2008. After the usual Two days in the hospital I was feeling good and diacharged. Only to return to the hospital at 4am in severe pain. I had a leak. Had to do another surgery and recovery was very painful I stayed in the hospital for three weeks. With that being said I wo…

Today is day two of my liquid diet. I've been using low calorie juice, unjury and nectar and lots of water. My main issue is with "leakage" to put it as delicately as possible. Does this last throughout the liquid diet? I'm lactose intolerant so only mix with water at this point. Any tips from veterans would be most helpful. Do I need to wear Depends? God help me I'm gettin ready for the Home....

Dr. Katherine M. Flegal from the CDC and colleagues presented an analysis of obesity data from NHANES 2013-2014, as well as an examination of trends in obesity data from surveys from 2005-2012. Their study was published in JAMA. Overall, the NHANES crude results from the 2013-2014 survey indicated that 38 percent of American adults were obese (BMI >30) — 35 percent for men, and 41 percent for women. When they examined the prevalence of class 3 obesity (BMI > 40), they found an overall prevalence of 8 percent: 6 percent for men and 10 percent for women. For both genders, the prevalence varied by race/Hispanic origin, with black women having the highest prevalence…

Whatever you do, don't blame it on Epigenetics! This has nothing to do with weight loss surgery (at least I don't think). But I read this article this morning and I still don't understand it. But any article that incorporates "flapdoodle love" in an article has got my attention. Anyways maybe I am just getting old and my thought patterns are getting disrupted. Epigenetics is a new term that describes how genes get turned on or remain off. Methylation is a process that keeps genes turned off so that they will not make the proteins that they are supposed to make. Acetylation, on the other hand, turns genes on, allowing proteins to be synthesized. With any new subje…

So, I've been stuck in this stall for quite a few weeks now. I keep going up and down with the same 3 lbs. It is really beginning to bother me that I'm not losing right now. The main reason for having WLS was to help me gain control of my blood sugar. Well, that is happening (fortunately), and I am having blood work done this week to check everything since surgery. But, the weight seems to have stopped coming off. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, or if I'm doing anything wrong. How long does a stall necessarily last and what should I do to help get over it? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I feel like a loser; just not the good kind here.

I'm a little over a month out and doing great, feeling good, regaining my energy. I weighed myself this morning and I have lost a total of 35 pounds! However when I look on the mirror I just can not see it. I'm glad I didn't have the surgery for purely aesthetic reasons or I would be so frustrated. My clothes are literally falling off of me, I can see they are big but I can't get to make my brain see any weight loss. Any one else experience this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Only three more days to tolerate the pain and complication this (#)% lapband has caused for the last three years. The removal and revision to RNY is on 06/01/16 and I CAN HARDLY WAIT!!! I thank everyone who posts on this forum for providing the insights, traumas, and laughter that has helped me through the last stages of this process. Though I lurk more than I write, I have gotten so much great information from all of you, information I needed to make this a smoother transition. The next step will be tough, and I really hate pain, but reading the stories you've shared gives me comfort and hope. See you on the other side! Rosie

Hi all, I tend to swallow air sometimes more than other times and that results in day long discomfort/pain. I don't use straws and try to pay attention to it but I guess today I swallowed too much trying to get my Water in so I have been struggling. I am almost a month post op. Do you have any tricks for the relief? Last time I had this happen it went away the next day, and I do take gas ex strips and they help temporarily just wondering if there are others like me.

I interrupted my bath to write you this post! I am exactly 1 week from surgery and I have been making a list of goals and rewards; like ... tying my shoes straight and not at the side because I can't been over to tie them correctly. You know what I mean; I got that sideways bow that looks as if someone standing next to me tied my shoes! Well, It wasn't until just now that I realized that I have yet another goal I want to achieve after WLS: I want to take a bath and have my WHOLE body under Water at the same time. No more visions of my stomach sticking out of the water like Gilligan's Island! Well, I hope this put a smile on someone's face today. It made me chuckl…

So I have been going through it with my doctors office. I finished my 3month disciplinary program and met all of the criteria Aetna requires May 26th. My information was supposed to be submitted to Aetna May 27th. My doctors office has yet to submit to my insurance company. They have been telling me that they submitted to Aetna but Aetna says they haven't received anything not even a call. When I contact my doctors office they said we submitted on the 8th then they said the 9th and they will let me know an update in 7 days when they check with my insurance company. Something just don't seem right to me. I just don't understand what they are doing. Aetna even conference ca…

I'm scheduled for RNY June 20th. The nursing Union will be voting on June 6th to decide if they will accept the contract offer (very unlikely) or vote to strike. Should they choose to strike, the earliest they could walk off the job is June 16th. This most certainly would affect my surgery date. I talked with my surgeon who stated that his understanding is that if there is a strike - it could delay my surgery up to another 5 weeks. I have another option to move up my surgery date to June 13th if there is OR time available. I know it sounds great, but I'm having my daughter's high school graduation party on 6-12. I will have so much to do for this along with clean up…

Ok.. I gotta vent... I am so furious right now! I had my surgery at a hospital an hour away because this surgeon is awesome. On Sunday when I wasn't feeling well we decided to go to ER by our house...that's where I found out I have seroma after a cat scan. I was still feeling very crappy since then went to my surgeon, they obtained a copy of cat scan report from the ER and guess what... No seroma! But I have a huge Abcess!OMG! Really! So now we are on the way to the hospital where I had surgery to the ER to have my surgeon open me up and drain the Abcess after which I will start antibiotics. Also going to get Doppler on my leg to make sure I am not forming a blood c…

Hello! I am scheduled for surgery July 5th. I met with my dietician yesterday and she gave me the pre and post-op diet plans. I am sooo confused because so many on her talk about 2 week liquid diet pre-op... My Dr only requires 3 days. Has anyone else only had 3 day pre-op diet? Also, from what I have read... you should intake 60-100 grams of Protein a day... my dietician says you only need 30 grams per day. What does intaking more protein do for you? Hi all, Just wondering what bypass peeps are eating 5 weeks out. Not sure if there is a thread / topic already. Yesterday marked 8 weeks post op for me and for the most part- I feel great! But I do have one question for all my RNY pals...when did your appetite/hunger return? In these 8 weeks, I have truly felt "hungry" once. And it was because I slept later than usual one morning (11 hours total ) and felt a slight bit of hunger when I awoke. With that said- I was prepared more to fight the head hunger that everyone talks about. And I never imagined I would have to FORCE myself to eat. It's great for the most part except, there are times when I have to make myself eat and it just makes me nauseous. I rarely struggle with head hunger as well [knocking on wood]. If it were up to …

How do you know it is time for maintenance? Is it a conscious decision or does it just happen when your body hits its new set point? I ask because I am now just over 9 months post op, Hw 277, Sw 246, and Cw 150, my goal has always been 150, but my surgeon wants me to lose another 10 lbs so that if there is any regain I will be where I want to be, but for the last 3 weeks it seems that the weight lose has stopped. And it just feels different than the usual stalls. Could this be an indication that it is time to maintain? Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App
