All is going pretty well with my recovery. I'm 20 days post op- and I can tolerate everything in my soft foods diet stage, with the exception of scrambled eggs. My question is when will I regain that full feeling? I pre measure everything as to not go over what I can handle. I'm just waiting to actually feel full or satisfied. Currently I don't feel much of anything, no hunger, no fullness. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  2. So, today is finally my last doctor visit of my six months of required visits. We thought last month was, but the bariatric center said they don't include my visit with the surgeon. So I called them today to make sure they have everything they need to send to the insurance company. I hope a decision is made quick so I'm not waiting forever! I did also finally decide on the Bypass vs the Sleeve.

  3. dinner tonight was supposed to be 2 oz of rotisserie chicken and a spoonful of mashed potatoes. I ate about half an ounce of chicken and felt full, so I stopped. Put the rest into a tiny plastic container for later. #1. Yeah for me for stopping based on how I feel, and not how much I've eaten. #2. Seriously? A half ounce of chicken? Why did I bother to get a plate and a fork again??? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I have had pain after I drink (liquid diet, 10th day post op) finally spoke with my dr, we determined that apparently I swallow air when I drink which creates air bubble inside and hurts... Apparently I don't know how to drink???? I have been really paying attention to it, and even before talking to my dr was doing very small sips... I tried different bottles, different cups, spoons et. I feel like I am not able to meet my Water goal because of this and getting nervous I will get dehydrated. Have you guys experienced this? Does it go away? I know we are not supposed to use straws but I am tempted to try and see if it will help me get water in since I already get air …

(2/3/2015) my sister had hers this past week so I can't talk to her about the fun things (constipation, exercise, etc) yet. Does anyone else have this problem, or is it just me? Lolol anyways. I'm down 130# since November (pre op requirements, included) a total of 70# lost from surgery. I've plateaued at 197. My gosh I am so disappointed the scale doesn't move so rapidly anymore. In dyer need of motivation, here! ????????

Hi all, I am 8 days post op, full liquid diet... I think i might be lactose intolerant now... I am allowed to have low fat creamy strained Soups and I have noticed that a while after I have it I get this bloating feeling with cramps pain. For those that have become lactose intolerant after surgery, what were your symptoms? I am not that big on dairy products I don't think I would miss it too much but still wish I would be able to have cheese at some time in my life. Thanks!

I'm currently in the process of weight loss surgery. It's something I've thought about doing for some time. The thought of a major surgery scares me, so lets just say this is not a decision that took overnight to decide. Working on a med/surg floor, I see many different recoveries and know that anything can happen. I'm the typical candidate for surgery. High BMI, pre-existing medical conditions, many attempts at weight loss my whole life only to gain all of it back plus some, poor family genes of obesity on top of diabetes and many heart conditions. I have many family members who have had some type of weight loss surgery (9 to be exact) so I see the benefits and success …

  18. Sorry to get so morbid here and mention chemo. I DO NOT have cancer, but it does run in my family like wildfire, and I expect that one day I might get the dreaded diagnosis. I am 48 now, hopefully this won't be for at least 2 decades, fingers crossed. So my malabsorption/malnutrition questions have to do with how does the body of an RNY patient get enough nutrients if -- heaven forbid -- they one day face chemo? I have seem family members really ravaged by chemo (granted, not all of them were compliant with doctors orders and suggestions), and many of these folks were overweight to start, and none of them ever had RNY or any weight loss surgery. So any nutrients they…

  19. I am considering bypass surgery. My BMI is a little over 38 and I have very bad GERD with Barrette's esophagus and a hernia. Because I am obese, my surgeon as said that if the hernia were fixed, it still may not completely help the GERD because I am obese. I have been considering bypass surgery for someone time now, but had other things come up. He has told me that Bypass surgery will solve my GERD problem and he can fix the hernia while he is in there. I had originally wanted a sleeve but he said because of the GERD, he would suggest the bypass. One of my major concerns with the bypass is malabsorption. 21. I'm 6 weeks out and have been having issues since week 3. food and liquids seem to have a hard time going down. First pain in my upper abdomen and then some times it resolves and sometime I have to vomit. This is not every time I eat or drink. Some times what goes down easily one day, refuses to go down the next. I am not drinking while eating, I am eating slowly, and I am chewing the crap out of each bite. I went to my surgeon and told him all of this. I could tell he was rolling his eyes at me and probably thinking I was eating too fast or not chewing enough. I asked for an endoscopy to rule out a structure. Well....I had my endoscopy yesterday. The results were--my …

Still deciding between the sleeve and RNY. At the first info session I went to, they stressed how the sleeve made hunger go away bc they removed the part of the stomach that produced gherkin. They didn't mention hunger going away with the RNY, and since the RNY diagram showed the entire stomach remaining in the body (even though it was divided) I assumed hunger must still be an issue after RNY. Attended a different program's info session last night, and they said hunger also goes away after RNY. Has this been true for you? Are you less physically hungry? Do you think about food less often? I am very hungry often, so I was leaning to the sleeve to help mitigate that, b…

Hey all- I had my RNY surgery on Wednesday. Yay the big part is over! However, When I went home the day after, I had an ON-Q pain pump that was supposed to release medicine when necessary. The nurse at the hospital said it was supposed to shrink in size as the pain medicine went in my body... This morning I woke up and the ball was the same size as when I left hospital. I ended up removing it and feel much better now that it's gone. I think I had a faulty pain pump. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks! A Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

April 19 I had a bypass revision. 14 days post op my heart rate started racing and my temp was up . Went to the hospital and was sent home. Now roughly 2 weeks later I'm back at home and have been on tpn and unable to eat or drink anything. I can't even take pills. I went in for a barium swallow today to see if the leak has resolved itself and no change. It's a very small leak, only 2 mm in length. I am so frustrated I wa…

I'm currently doing my pre-op diet. I am not supposed to have more than 60 grams of carbs a day. I am constantly over this because of all the veggies I eat. If I don't eat a bunch of veggies, I stay hungry. My NUT didn't really explain if carbs from veggies count. Do you think it will be OK to go over the 60 grams of carbs a day as long as it's from veggies? Broccoli and Brussels sprouts are the only thing saving me from hunger and since I'm vegetarian, I'm eating meatless "chicken" strips which has a small carb count as my protien. I'm at a loss. Along with GERD and Barrett's Esophagus, I have IBS. Wednesday while teaching I had a terrible attack that left me on the floor of my classroom and in an ambulance to the ER. I couldn't breathe, the stabbing pain was unbearable. I had eaten a cheeseburger for lunch and that set it off I guess , that and the minor stress of teaching . If I avoid fried food, meat, all dairy products, I feel ok. I'm so anxious for the mini bypass, because while I have every sane reason to avoid bad foods, I cave in to the hunger pains. Eating for me is a process that always ends up with a distended stomach, reflux, and terrible lethargy. It's been this way for years. I cannot wait to …

A recent study out of Denmark shows some strange results on BMI and mortality. Led by Dr. Shoalb Afzal from Copenhagen University and the Copenhagen University Hospital, a team of researchers analyzed data from three cohorts of the general Danish population. There were nearly 14,000 people from the Copenhagen City Heart Study (1976-78), another 9,500 from that study in 1991-94, and over 97,000 from the Copenhagen General Population Study in 2003-2013. All the participants were followed from their first enrollment in their respective study until November, 2014, or until they emigrated or died. Typically the lowest risk of mortality is associated with a BMI in the lower…

Hi, I'm Erin, my gastric bypass was may 4th. I had some complications. A 1 hour surgery took 5.5 hours. My liver encompassed my entire abdominal cavity. Dr didn't know or missed. Was on 8 liters of oxygen a minute 24 hours a day because my liver was crushing everything and I was having troubles breathing. Preoperative I was on liquid diet two weeks. And my liver was still ginormous. So far in two weeks I've lost 25 pounds. Today I graduated to soft foods. Here's my question...... Will I forever hurt/be in pain/be uncomfortable? Dr says it was lucky she found my liver in the state it was, it can now begin to heal. She said how my liver was I'd died within a year.…

At times there can be a lot of stress associated with weight loss (especially when dealing with the health insurance companies or from the comments from co-workers). One way to relieve that stress is grown-up coloring books. Experts speculate that the rhythmic repetition of coloring helps tune out the outside world, which in fact releases stress. But, they quickly note, the moment of zen is not meant to replace actual therapy when needed, because of the relationship that’s established between a therapist and the patient. The American Art Therapy is behind the craze, too, releasing a statement saying it supports the use of adult-coloring books for “pleasure and self car…
