Hi dear Friends, I would like to know if my situation is common or if it's something people have discussed here before. I'm a 6' 1" man with very wide shoulders whose heaviest was 305 lbs at various times over the years during the morbidly obese periods in between my losing 50 lbs at least 5 times in my life. Well enough of that crap!! So I went to my surgeon's public presentation a year and a half ago weighing about 285 lbs suffering from every co morbid element one can think of, and some one usually doesn't think of...! So when it was confirmed I went on Atkins Diet and started a strong daily walking program and ended up meeting the surgery half way; I went un…

Good morning everyone! So today I started out with being cool and called out sick for the first time since last year! I'm not sick by the way just need a day off since I work seven days a week! I made my coffee(strong) as usual. I had coffee cake muffins on the table that I bought for my sons. Today this fearless one decides it's ok to eat one with my coffee. It even had cream cheese icing on it!Ohhhhhh well now I know what dumping symptoms are for me!!!!! Firstly it was a wonderful feeling of sweetness! I ate the 1/2 of the muffin with my coffee. Now the uninterrupted feeling of nausea....... Blaaaaa what a terrible feeling. My nose is kind of runny and feel blaaaaa. …

I am eight days out of the revision surgery but I would still sometimes feel hungry in the evening. Is this normal or not? I drink about 70g of premier protein shake each day. When I feel hungry, after drinking two sips of protein shake, it kind of relieve my hunger. I feel worried that I would still want to eat? How does everyone else feel? I have lost 10 pounds since surgery but did not lose any weight in 2 days. I don't know if I am doing something wrong.

This is probably TMI, but I had my revision from band to RNY on April 1. I had a gi bleed afterwards and had to get a blood transfusion. I'm doing fine now. I'm on the blended/pureed stage for eating. I'm getting about 60 grams of Protein in. Drinking Water about 40-60 oz. per day. My question is, dis any of you experience diarrhea afterwards? It's usually 2-3 times per day. Just curious if this gets any better. Thank you. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

A totally TMI subject but I'm curious....I have issues being regular since I had my band placed in 2010 and have to take miralax to help things along. Since the bypass messes directly with that process moreso then the band I was wondering how the poop process goes. Does anyone have to help things along or is it easier, does it change the farther out from surgery you get? Thanks peeps Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I want to let everybody know that you need to thank your support person. I am a support person but I am also on my own rny journey. If you haven't hugged, thanked, or told your support person you love them please do now. Being a support person is hard. We watch the people we love be hurt, suffer, cry, and be generally sick. We know that the rny, sleeve, or band is hard on the person who had the surgery. Just remember that we love you and want the best for you and that as a support person we have to be strong when you can't be. #bariatricsupport Sent from my BLU LIFE ONE using the BariatricPal App

I'm in a bad place right now. Had surgery on August 11,2015. I was 285 day of surgery...I am now 243.5. I have been 243.5 for over a week now. I'm frustrated...sad...and missing food so bad that I cry all the time. I'm Italian and used to be a huge Pasta...bread....cheese person. Yesterday my husband made an amazing sauce and I sat there as my family made yummy noises and ate my favorite things. It didn't bother me before this stall but now I'm miserable. I exercise 6 times a week...35 minutes on the treadmill at 3.2-3.5 and then lift light weights for 15 minutes. I don't know what to do. I just cracked into my kids candy for the first time...tiny bites of butter…

I struggle with how I see myself in the mirror. I never saw myself being as big as I actually had become, and now that I am losing I am having a hard time seeing the changes from that. The "before "pic is really just earlier in the process and taken in December. I began my preop exercise and diet on 11/23/15. I lost 29lbs on my own before having gastric bypass on 4/4. I am down 40lbs now. At my heaviest I was 274, in the before pictures I was likely around 261. I currently am 235. At first I didn't really notice the difference but I am now starting to the more I look at it. It may not be much, but it is the least I have weighed in 3 years, when I got down to 223 before…

I don't know where to start. I'm 12 days post op and I don't know if I made the right decision to have surgery. Could I have just buckled down and lost the weight on my own? Are the mood swings, irritation, and all worth it? I just feel kind of hopeless right now and all the people around me just seem to tell me "oh it's a process and it'll get better" but all I can think is...what have I done? Maybe it's too early to feel that way but I have always been a super upbeat and positive person, even though I'm overweight. I just don't want to have changed my favorite part of myself by trying to lose weight this way. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had a roux-en-Y gastric bypass done in 2012 and am currently in hospital suffering from acute nerve pain, in my groin and legs and also tingling in my feet. I have had a CT scan, ultrasound and MRI and so far they cannot find a cause. My research has brought me to peripheral neuropathy or polyneuropathy, apparently in the USA this is common after weight loss surgery, particularly RNY. Has anyone has anything like this happen to them? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My surgery just got delayed by 3 months and I'm really having a hard time dealing with it. I need to hear stories about people that had a really long preop process (like almost a year of continually weighing in and going to support groups) and made it through and got the surgery and are now getting healthy and losing that weight!! Thanks

Hi Group, I was wondering how soon after surgery were you all able to exercise? I have a bum knee that needs to be replaced, but it seems as though walking in the preferred method of exercise. I literally cannot walk for any extended period of time. I love doing Water aerobics and don't know how quickly I'll be able to get back in thew water. What has worked for you all? I appreciate your feedback!

So I know I am getting my bypass revision, found out last Friday. The three weeks before I was going to the seminar and nutrition classes and support groups and doctors appointment and getting poked with needles, you know all that pre-op qualification stuff. Now I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs and waiting, waiting for a sleep study, waiting for the upper GI and pre-op appointment. I have to just wait weeks and while I am lucky to know that I am getting my revision I feel like I need to be helping along the process. I know I'm just bitchin but I'm impatient lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm five weeks out from surgery and I started having dark stools (black), loose and solid, with no pain. I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue. I did have internal bleeding after my first surgery and I had emergency surgery the next day to drain 600ml of blood from my abdomen, but nothing since then. Hi all, I'm posting this for a friend of mine who had RNY surgery about two weeks ago. I can tell she is getting frustrated because her blood sugars are still high and she is still on medication. She keeps hearing these stories of people who went into instant remission and I think that was what she expected. I've been on this site enough to know that everyone is different and I am sure there are people out there who have had a similar experience so I'm hoping to be able to share some of those stories with her. Did anyone have a similar situation where their diabetes took longer to go into remission? I really appreciate any stories you can share. She is feeling now like…

So my surgery is Monday morning and I'm looking for my post op vitamins. I've read all the threads with some great info but I have a problem with one common ingredient that I'm allergic to. Saccharine and all of its derivatives. It's so frustrating because not only are there no chewable or liquid vitamins without artificial sweeteners but all of the so-called "healthy, sugar free snacks" that I am allowed to have on my liquid diet have the same thing. So I'm thinking I'll just crush all of the vitamins but I'm curious if anyone knows of a brand that is all natural? I don't care if it tastes like #%*¥, I just want to stay healthy and get my nutrients. Or has anyone …

Hi all I'm in the UK. I had a gastric band in 2009. I did lose weight but had constant vomiting, reflux, heartburn, etc. Only when it was too tight did I manage to get to nearly my goal weight. I have had it checked under x-ray to rule out complications. I have around 11 kilos to go. According to NHS guidelines I am overweight. However, my BMI is 26 and no-one in the UK will touch me. There are a few places outside the UK that offer the sleeve but I can see from this forum that people are starting to need revision from this. The bypass is the gold standard and this is what I would aim for. To undergo the cost, worry and hassle of a second bariatric surgery means I want t…

I am having real bad pain still near my left most incision site. Surgeon says it's because of interior stitches between this incision and my muscle wall. Stitches are thru a nerve on this wall. He states they are disintegrating stitches with about a 6 week life. I am more or less curious if anyone else has had this. I haven't found any posts about it. This pain makes just about any amount of movement painful. I can't stand for long because my belly fat apron tugs at this incision site as well. Bending over is impossible. Sitting straight up or forward is impossible. The pain is at the incision site with tenderness directly above and below it and pulling pain between it a…

I am a day away from being 3 weeks post op. My Dr told me to try soft food and if they tolerate well I can try to bring in a different food ever 3 days.. I tested positive for the H. polyrid and I am on antibiotics for that. I really don't have an urge to eat. On a typical day in the morning I may have a Protein shake or oatmeal. lunch someone told me to try Wendy's chili. So I have. I may have a can of tuna. And at night I don't eat anything. Please move my post if I am not in the right place. I had gastric bypass in 8/2012. I fasted to a weight of 275 and in the next three months I dropped to 246. I lost my health insurance at that time and couldn't go to the doc anymore. I never lost anymore after the 246. I stayed there until the weight started quickly come back on. I never felt like I had restriction and I ate like I didn't. I ate a lot of slider foods. (My Father also died the same year and I was in another state isolated from my family. I should also tell you that I hurt my back in 2009 and I had trouble walking - one of the reasons I had the surgery) There's so much to believe that there was s…

Recent research seems to point to Electro-Stimulation with Exercise as optimizing caloric burn. I am not much of a fan of exercise for exercise sake. Seems like a waste of my precious time. I tend to rely of the physical exercise of manual labor. It seems more productive to me. For example I was out this morning cutting up some large trees that had fallen over my road. But for those who are exercise enthusiasts, I thought I would provide a glimpse of some of the latest research. I guess I would also like to ask the question, has anyone in the WLS community actual done this type of exercise? Weight-conscience Americans are always looking for ways to increase thei…

hi all, I'm about 5 weeks pre-op for gastric sleeve and am really looking for a mentor. This is a big step for me and I like to be as prepared as possible, since I'm sure nothing will prepare me for the real deal. I'm struggling with the program offered by the bariatric group doing my surgery--I really feel like there is not enough support offered. Hey all! I was banded Dec 2010 and lost 160lb (350-190) making it to my goal weight ( I'm 6'1.5"). Had to have my band removed in Feb of 2015 and the surgeon who took it out said he wouldn't qualify me for a sleeve because he didn't think I needed it. Well a year and a lot of stressors later I gain almost 79lbs back and my new surgeon has approved me for a bypass due to reflux and my shown propensity to regain the weight. I have an upper GI (May 6th) and a sleep study (April 23) to do and I will know my surgery date! I am so nervous but finally ready to have something permanent to help me with the life I deserve for me and my family. Can't wait to share my continued jour…

Hey y'all! I was banded 1/2009 and for the first two years, lost about 65 pounds. I could never get the fills in the green zone- too tight or too loose. I threw up 3 times a day for 4 years. Not throw up but the regurgitation(sorry for tmi) Basically, I lost all my weight by starving and working out like I was the next contestant on Biggest Loser, except there weren't cameras or Jillian Michaels screaming at me. I had a band slip in 2011- while on a cruise... First cruise I didn't gain weight on but was miserable. Once back home, all Fluid was taken out and I played the guessing game for a few more years. I then gained all the weight I had lost due to my band e…

I was curious if any of you post op people have had problems drinking this particular shake. A FB group I just joined was saying it was the wrong type of Protein & suggested it can cause dumping. Yet Kaiser's bariatric pgm highly recommends it. Just curious if this is just a certain group bashing other drinks in order to sell their's or if it's truly not the best option. Thanks. I need some advice from some bariatric veterans out there...I am almost 4 weeks out and worry that I'm already doing this wrong. I've been following my NUT's instructions, and am on the soft food stage (scrambled eggs, purees, tuna, yogurt, etc). She told me to continue doing the Protein shakes (60-80g daily) and incorporate two or three 2-4 tbsp meals in addition to this. She did not mention the amount of calories I should be getting daily. Well. I worry because it's already about 400 with the Protein Shakes (sometimes more if I use almond or skim milk), and then adding the small meals per day I am nearing 700 calories daily, and a lot of things I've read and heard is…

Had surgery on Feb 15. I've been to the docs every week and each week they say I need more calories and Protein. Also because I'm a man and that the scale doesn't read my weight loss accurately not sure what to make of my 30lbs weight loss ( haven't even stated excessive yet). I currently do two shakes with 40 - 60 grams of protein each day and eat up to 1900 calories a day as prescribed. Since my surgery I have only had 1 dumping experience which consisted of weakness and dizziness and feeling warm, it lasted a day. Besides that I haven't really had any gage to let me know if I'm eating to much. I try to restrict my self to portions recommended by the nutritionist. Howe…
