I'm a little more than two weeks out and the nausea has just not hit me. I also feel the worst at night. I wake up feeling sick and really lightheaded. I'm worried about taking in too less of calories. I'm struggling with protein the past couple days. I can't get down a protein shake in a day. I'm just worried. I have no energy. Is this normal?

I just got the call this morning that my insurance approved my bypass surgery! Woohoo!! It only took one day (less than 24 hours) to hear back from them after my request for auth was submitted. I'm scheduled for May 24th, which is apparently the surgeons first available date. I was really hoping for sooner since I've already been waiting and working for 6 months +. I'm wondering if a 2 month wait time after insurance approval until surgery date is normal. I guess I had thought that it would be much sooner. Maybe I'm just being impatient, but I am more than ready. There is another reputable bariatric practice in the area, would it be totally lousy to shop around this…

  3. My surgery is May 13, i know it's still far away but I am starting get ready because my schedule is so busy and would like to stock op on few things I will need after surgery at home. Could you please share what was useful to have in the hospital and at home first couple of weeks after surgery, food wise, Protein wise, for comfort heating pads or anything else. Also question, I've read somewhere that after bypass you are not allowed to drink through a straw or chew gum... Is this true? If so why is that? I don't mean initially after surgery, it actually talked about ever... Thanks everyone!

Two months ago I started having a Protein shake for Breakfast since the NUT said that you should find one you like before surgery. Currently I'm using Fitmiss... but I'm wondering if anyone else uses it? I know I'm one of those people that are skeptical when things are cheap. A container of it is only like $28 (lasts 30 days). I'm wondering if it's cheaper because it's not that good? I used to drink Isopure low carb whey, but I was also working out twice a day and did lose almost 80 pounds. It's what my body builder friends recommended, but since I'm currently not weight lifting would it still be a good Protein powder? I mix my protein with Soy Milk.

Let me preface this by saying 1. Yes I do measure everything - EVERY THING. 2. I am only 1wk post op 3. My Dr. Saw me on day 5 and moved me up to pureed food bc I am handling my liquids so well. Now that is out of the way - I am not feeling "fullness" or I don't think I am...I am supposed to eat 1.5oz pureed Protein and then till I'm comfortable ... I am able to eat 5oz pureed without any I'll effects....6 usually makes me feels a little tightness behind my belly button which may just be gas pains but I always stop at 4/5 oz. I'm worried because I know "numbness" can cause you not to feel full and I am worried about expanding my pouch. I am able to drink & e…

I am only 10 days post op, NUT has me on the third week of my diet plan already which means I can have more variety in my food & I am a great cook so I know there are endless opportunities but I can't eat much so in order to get all of my Protein I am basically eating meat. I'm tired of meat .....I'm tired of Protein shakes. I have to get in 90-113 grams of protein but all I want is some vegetables... Kale, spinach, roasted carrots something else!!!! I know how important protein is but if I get all my protein from shakes I'm too full for anything else and if I get it from meat same thing. does anyone have suggestions for vegan or vegetarian protein sources ???? …

I am now 5 days Post-op band to bypass. I was banded 3 years ago and did great the first year. Then the stomach flu hit me and I got stuck to the point where I couldn't swallow my own saliva and had to rush back to the ED for emergency unfill. My band was never the same after that. I had always had pain in my left shoulder, like most of us had due to the gas build upon only difference was mine lasted until I had the band removed. After my doctor and I tried everything to help, we couldn't fix it. Many trips to the ED later, my doc said it needs to come out. So I started the process all over again and this time I decided to be revised to bypass. When I woke up from surgery…

Hi all, I had my 8 week visit with the Dietician today and have been progressed onto 'normal foods'. Yayyy! I've lost 12.5kg (28 lb) since my Op & feel good. She was happy with my weight loss, but slightly concerned how quickly I'm losing and queried whether I have been eating enough. I assured her that I have and don't let myself get too hungry. I've only been walking 2-3 times a week and she doesn't recommend upping the ante just yet as I'm still recovering. She said I can try toast, crispbread, soft drink & I alcohol (keeping in mind it will affect me more). I also told her how I've eaten chocolate and wasn't scolded- just told it's a 'sometimes food…

  13. I have been using unsweetened soy milk for my Protein shakes (I'm 6 days post-op), but today I used skim lactaid milk instead, and added 12 oz of milk to thin down my shake as I'm a little low on fluids today. I managed to drink it in just under and hour, and it wasn't until just now when I put it in myfitnesspal that I realized 12 oz of lactaid milk is 18 grams of sugar. That seems like a lot, but I feel totally fine? I wasn't intending to 'test' whether I'd get dumping syndrome or not until I was WELL along in my recovery, but this was an accident. How much sugar does it take those of you who dump to start feeling the symptoms? I'm not sure how I feel about this, tb…

Just wondering if anyone has had one? I am 7 weeks post op, and have had non-stop tummy issues. My surgeon ordered an immediate endoscopy for tomorrow morning to see if that's my problem. I'm told that if that is, indeed, what's going on, they can fix it and I'll feel a lot better. I am hoping that is what's wrong, just to bring an end to my 24-hour constant feeling of fullness and nausea. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

  15. I'm two and a half weeks post op. Woke up this morning with some high pain. A lot of burping, and can barely get some Water down without some of it trying to come back up and causes a ton of pain. What do I do? I literally can't even consider my soft food, or my Protein drinks since the water is coming back up. It's the weekend so the doctors office is closed unless I went to the ER

My surgery was supposed to be today. After completing 2 weeks liquid pre-op and feeling prepared mentally, physically and spending hours preparing to miss work for 2 weeks, I got a call yesterday that my surgeon is sick and needed to cancel. Now, I'm no dummy....I know I don't want a sick surgeon. But today I'm feeling sorry for myself. I'm rescheduled for 3/29. I can be off liquids for a week and then back on. 22. I've been getting lots of compliments, and it humorous to me to see how they've evolved. They have progressed like this: (The double take-- no words, just looking twice cause something seems different.) You look like you're losing weight. You're slimming down You look great You're getting skinny Your face looks so slim You're getting too skinny Careful, you don't want your face to get too skinny You're withering away! I guess 'skin and bones' is coming next. Doesn't bother me, but listing them out shows how this slowly turns into passive- aggressive 'advice' when others feel enough is enough.

I know this will eventually slow down as weeks and months pass, so my plan is too keep myself determined by setting rewards for myself for every milestone I hit. I am 4 days post-op now and down 10 lbs already, in another 10 lbs I will officially drop a size and I plan on clearing out my closet of everything that doesn't fit me and treat myself to 1 new item. Hi all, I had GB on Feb 10th & have lost around 9 kilos since. I'm realising despite the loss, I'm really not contributing much. I barely exercise, I don't measure my portions anymore, I don't journal anything (I wasn't told to by any of my team), I'm able to gulp liquids down & I succumbed to chocolate & a smalllll bit of cheesecake. I'm worried this is all going to eventually bite me on the ass. I have been feeling emotionally out of sorts lately, so perhaps that's a factor. I also don't want to train too hard & lose weight so quickly that my skin suffers. I know that I should walk every day, but my head says why bother, I'll lose weight anyway…

For those that are post-op have any of you experienced a B1 Thiamine deficiency? I found out that I am a few weeks ago after the front of my body being numb from my shins to my chest, which started two months ago. I've been taking Thiamine injections for a few weeks now and slowly getting better. It's very frustrating though. Just wanted to see if there was anyone else that has dealt with this and could share their story. Thank you.

I had my gastric bypass this past Monday for medical reasons. The biggest issue was Barrett's Esophagus Disease, HBP, sleep apnea and I could definitely use the weight loss. The surgeon also operated on a hyatal hernia which has caused me extreme discomfort in my diaphragm, back and shoulder. I get winded if I walk or even talk to much. I almost regret having the hernia repair done. I'm really worried that the weight is coming off but I'm not able to meet the 30 minutes of exercise my surgeon wants me doing each day. Just wondering if anyone else had both surgeries at once and what the outcome was.

  31. So I'm 3 weeks out from GBP RNY and I'm physically feeling great. I can get all my liquids and Proteins no problem, I'm incorporating the pureed foods in just fine. I'm getting a lot of walking in, have even tried a little tennis (although I don't know if I'm quite ready for that yet). But overall I feel physically good. The problem is my fat girl brain.
