Band was unfilled and, turns out, has slipped. I got my insurance approval, for revision, on Thursday and will be getting my surgery date on Monday! I'm so excited and scared! I love reading everyone's stories and realizing I am not alone! I was a self pay band back in 2006 and now weigh about 40 lbs more than when I was banded. I am currently trying to get insurance to cover revision to gastric bypass. I'm scared I will fail with this surgery too! What was the biggest difference you noticed after getting bypass?

I am having a difficult time with nausea. I had my RNY on Feb. 16th. Wednesday was a good day, and I added some V8 juice to my diet. Slowly, 1 Oz at a time. By 9pm, I was in the bathroom, vomiting and very sick. I called my surgeon yesterday, and he asked that I come right in. He "smelled" dehydration from my lungs, and was a bit concerned when he felt my belly around the incisions. He was a bit surprised at how tender I still was. So, he had me wheeled over to the ER for IV fluids and a CT scan. It came back normal, which is great. Today, I started with just cold Water to drink for a few hours, then had a sugar free popsicle. For lunch, I had 3oz of bariatric pal crea…

  7. I am 40 years old and am having RNY in the next couple of months. I have PCOS and auto immune Thyroid disease. I am very excited for surgery as I want to look how I feel inside (does that make sense?) and also regain my health. I am 5'5 and 242lbs. I am wondering if it is normal to be worried about losing too much weight? For vanity purposes I do not want to have loose skin etc. I have a good muscle tone so I feel like I will be fine. I know the health benefits far out weigh anything else however, it is a concern. Any help is appreciated! Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hi everyone, I have my tentative surgery date for rny on 3/22/16. I am still waiting to hear back from insurance as to whether or not I have been approved, so that's why I still say "tentative." As the date gets closer, everything starts to feel more real and one thing that has really been helping me is watching vlogs on youtube from other people who have gone on the same journey. This website/forum as well as the vlogs have been inspiring, giving me hope/support, and definitely making me feel like I am not alone. I was thinking about starting my own vlog to document the journey. I figured, maybe it would help others who are considering making the same choice like it ha…

Hey! Are you having bypass in February? We are starting a closed/secret group on Facebook and would LOVE to have you join us. 2 years ago I had a sleeve done, but due to complications they are revising me from sleeve to bypass. I had an AMAZING group on Facebook that all had the same surgery that month. We were going through the same things whether it was venting one day, sharing milestones, and made lasting friendships! Since it's a secret group there is some hoops to go through to get added (sorry, Facebook makes it harder) The good thing is that it's completely secret meaning none of your friends can know see posts or ever know you're in it This makes it a safe pl…

I had my RNY on December 14, 2015. So far, I have lost 40lbs. I am in the process of slowing introducing new foods and it has been a challenge. The foods that I think we'll make me sick don't and the foods I should be eating I can't. Tonight, I tried something new and I have some serious nausea going on. I've only vomited three times since surgery. However, I still have trouble getting in protein and drinking enough water. I can only drink half a protein shake in one hour. If I try to drink any more than half, I get sick. My question is will I feel normal and what is the average time frame?

The only difference is I feel tired. I will confess I ate two ritz crackers the other night Bc I felt so nauseous. What am I doing wrong?! Could my pouch Be open? Is it beneficial to restart my phases again? I feel horrible for eating the crackers.

  20. I have always had a positive mentality towards how my body looks. Literally if society was more accommodating towards fat people, and great clothes were available in larger sizes I wouldn't mind remaining as fat as I am for the rest of my life. However, since the moment the Dr. gave me my surgery date how I see my body completely changed. I am suddenly very aware of how fat I am, and I became very self conscious. i can't wait to change this body. Overnight it stopped feeling like my body, and more like some buildup that will eventually heal and go back to normal. Did any1 else pass through this? does any1 feel this way now? Thanks

Ok, I really need to know if anyone has experienced any enhanced senses since their surgery. I know this sounds odd, but my sense of smell has gone up dramatically. It began right away! On this past Wednesday, the day after my RNY, I was taken for the upper GI test, where you drink that yucky Fluid while they take pictures to be sure everything is working. The radiologist whom I worked with was a very nice guy, but to me his aftershave was quite strong. Also, when my wheelchair was sitting in the hallway as I waited to be taken back up to my room, I could smell people's lunches in the closed staff room. The woman who returned me to my room reeked of Bath & Body Works…

Including a complex ovarian cyst that I am seeing an Oncologist about this coming Thursday. Additionally, I have become borderline if not actually, anorexic. I have been told by my surgeon (threatened in a polite way) to get back to 140. I am 5 ft 4 and currently weigh 119. I was 234 at surgery time. I was down to 113 back in December. Then fluctuated between 113 and 116. Then up to 119 since being admitted to the hospital. I am at the bottom of my BMI. Anyway, I was admitted via the ER for abdom…

I'm 2 months part op and I did have stricture and had my esophagus dilated last week (from less than 3cm-16cm) Anyway I'm eating and drinking now and have been doing well. However, tonight I couldn't keep my dinner down. I ordered chicken picotta and asparagus...ate a few bites and was full then 2 hrs later ended up throwing up. So my question is, is it normal to have a "bad" day (not keeping food down) every once and a while? Since my surgery nothing has been "normal" so I wanted to ask those of y'all who are having a "normal" recovery if this happens to you?

  26. Hello All, I had surgery on Monday, 2/22. Everything went well. My only "ugh" about the whole thing is the gas build up in my abdomen, chest, shoulders, and neck. While in the hospital I did just about 10,000 steps between the day of surgery and the next day to keep the gas moving (I brought my Fitbit). Now I am home and still pacing our hallways but I cannot get comfortable. How long should I expect these gas pains to last?

Hi everyone! Does anyone else experience a high tolerance for alcohol after gastric bypass? I have a completely difference tolerance now than before surgery. I don't get drunk (not a bad thing). I can feel just a tiny bit tipsy for a very short period of time - maybe 20 minutes and then goes away. I even put it to the test this past week on our annual all-inclusive trip to the Caribbean when rum punch was flowing freely all day. Not that I need to be drinking and wanting to get drunk, but sometimes that relaxing fun feeling would be fine. Even my surgeon was stumped and said this is the first he's heard of a high tolerance as it's usually the opposite. So...j…

I'm incredibly active - on days I don't work I usually walk or run 5 miles plus strength training. I have a very active job so even on days that I work I get a minimum of 10,000 steps, though usually it's closer to 20,000. Once I did 34,000! Currently I eat between 1000 - 1200 calories and get about 105 - 115 grams of protein a day. I definitely feel like I get hungry much quicker and stay full for far less time. I am looking to have my banding revised to bypass in next couple months. When I was in shape, about 4 years ago, I used to love long distance road biking, 60 to 100 miles per day. I did have bad days due to my vertical banding, but overall found a sport I really enjoyed. I would like to do this again, after I lose my extra weight, but wondered if anyone that had bypass does the same and have any issues with eating or nutrition they have had. Or do I just plan on keeping my rides to much shorter distances? Thanks

  35. So I was reading a post of mine from a few months back. Generally the post was about my ongoing battle with depression and body image problems. Unfortunately I'm still going through these issues, and they were there long before my surgery, therefore they're not going anywhere unless I take action. Moving on from that, I've noticed that I have refrained from being active. This not only helped me physically, but mentally as well. I'm sure some of you may have already seen this before for those who haven't you may find this interesting ...... it's an explanation on why our body has weight loss stalls: The Inevitable Stall By Diana C. A "stall" a few weeks after surgery is not uncommon, and here's why. Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs. of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when a patient is not getting in enough food, the body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. Th…

However, when I tried a teeny bit of yogurt, I had heartburn for 3 hours. I have to crush up my Nexium and anxiety medicine, and the taste literally makes me heave when mixed with water or Crystal Light. So that's why I tried the yogurt.
