Since Friday morning (after I ate) I've had abdominal pain, close to my belly button. Now every time I eat, I start hurting. It's not terrible pain but it's there. Could it be that food is stuck in my pouch? Has anyone experienced this? Or does anyone have any idea what it could be? Help!

What is/was your goal weight?? I'm 6' tall and I've been overweight my entire life. I have no concept of what looks 'good' on my body at a healthy weight and my surgeon has not set a goal weight. At my pre-op appointment, they asked me what MY goal weight was, and I just said 'under 200 lbs.' But I know that's still overweight in terms of BMI. What are your experiences regarding your body at different sizes? I know everyone is different, but I'd love to get some thoughts from different people!

Hi all, I'm very interested in gastric but I turn 40 in April and have a BMI over 50 so I'm a really big man. However I'm a big chicken when it comes to going under and pain. Additionally I'm concerned with the skin issue I will have afterwards. Any guys out there that are over six feet had a BMI over 50 pre op who can give me some idea of what to expect and give me pointers on what to expect?

Hi everyone! My surgery is next week and I'm super excited. I'm not nervous at all as far as the operation goes--the journey afterward, now that's another story (I had a brain tumor removed 11/27/13, so this operation is menial to me, no offense) I'm just worried about excess skin and eating the wrong things at the wrong times. Any support would be appreciated. Guys or girls ???? Xo Tiff

I'm 9 days post op and have had no problem getting 64 oz of fluids down, broth, jello or two potein shakes per day. I don't have to take sips, I can drink 8 oz of Isopure in about 15 minutes and not feel full. I've read post after post from others that can't get enough fluids in and feel full after tiny sips. I called my Nut yesterday to ask her if this was normal and she said yes this was the goal. What do you all think?

I am beyond excited right now!! I just finished the last of my "homework" yesterday with lab work and had an appointment coming up this week to determine what comes next... thinking that's when they'd submit for insurance approval and then I'd have an eternity to wait and see if it went through. IMAGINE my surprise when I get a call today and they said that not only had they already submitted for approval, but it was approved and I have my date set for 2 WEEKS!!!! March 15th, baby! That's one wonderful birthday present to myself (March 7th!) I'M WALKING ON CLOUDS IN SUNSHINE UNDER A RAINBOW!!!!

Hi everyone! I am 4 weeks post-op. Going to my stage 3 class on Tuesday to begin solid food (with several stipulations) however I am always nauseous with the pureed food. It doesn't matter what it is. If I eat more than a tablespoon I am sick. Has this happened to anyone else and if so did it get better?

Hello RNYers! After initial consultation with my surgeon, he highly recommended that I pursue gastric bypass rather than sleeve given my high starting BMI. I had gone into the meeting set on the sleeve; needless to say, I am now looking at RNY as I trust his medical opinion and evaluation of my health. I am curious about those of you who have had RNY, specifically your starting weight/BMI and your progress to date. So...I invite those of you who feel comfortable to share your before and after RNY pics and progress. Thanks to you all! Dev

Lenny Vartanian, PhD., from the Psychology Department of the University of New South Wales in Australia and her colleagues recently analyzed the effect of stress on overeating by placing Cookies in a cluttered/clean kitchen and watching the results. According to a study involving 101 women at Cornell’s food and Brand Lab, researchers showed that when those with heightened stress levels were placed in a noisy, messy kitchen — think scattered newspapers, a stacked sink of dirty dishes, relentless telephone ringing — and they were asked to wait patiently for another person, they ate more. In fact, these women ate twice as many of the cookies left out for them as did their e…

So tonight I was working on my taxes. (FYI- for those that donate your too big clothes, you need to keep really a detailed record of what you donate, when and get receipts!) I remember right after surgery last spring struggling with the idea of getting rid of my winter clothes since they'd be too big by winter. It was impossible to wrap my head around. Now it's heading to spring again, I looked through my closet and drawers and realized there is not a single item in there from 'before'. Not a shirt, bra or even a panty-- everything is new. (Or like new-- I do thrift stores at times). I was a size 26, and am starting in on 14 now. And again, its hard to wrap my head ar…

Too funny to not pass on to others that take Protein shakes Gwyneth Paltrow drinks 1 shake every AM that costs $200.00/ea So glad I am not that exotic. I thought regular protein powders were costly. SERVES 1 ● 1 cup almond milk ● 1 tablespoon almond butter ● 1 teaspoon coconut oil ● 2 tablespoons vanilla mushroom Protein powder ● 1 teaspoon hair, Brain Dust to combat mental fogginess, Goodnight Dust when sleep has been evasive, Sex Dust, for, you know, and Spirit Dust to get that extrasensory perception going. ● pinch Himalayan sea salt ● pinch vanilla powder (optional)

So this Saturday is my one year surgiversary and tomorrow is my 1 year appointment with my doctor and I have been looking forward to this appointment for a few weeks now, then I saw my profile on here and it seems as if I lost most my weight in the first 5 months of surgery and only 10 lbs in the last 7. I stopped weighing myself because I would drop 10 lbs in a week and then not lose anything for weeks so instead of weighing weekly I would only weigh monthly last month I weighed myself and I had only lost 5 lbs from the month before and then I saw on here the weight I had posted and I have barely lost anything. I hate the scale and always have and I noticed quickly that …

Hooray 5 days post-op feeling so much better. Off pain medications. So I don't know if this is normal? I have only been getting 1-20z of liquid every hour? That is all I can get in? Is that too little? If more than that I feel a pressure in my chest the next hour and I can't do the next hour. Sorry I am a newbie to the post-op side and I have been reading so many different things on what you should be able to intake including my handouts. Thanks for the help. 2oz it was supposed to say.

I had surgery 12/7 and since then I have lost 36 pounds. I feel like I should have lost more by now. I also feel like I've been stuck at this current weight for ever! I've made an appointment with my NUT and have started keeping a food diary again but I just feel like I am doing something wrong. I could defiantly do more on the exercise front and with it starting to warm up more I'm adding more activity to my life I just feel like I'm missing something. What is the normal weight loss for 14 weeks post op?

My RNY was Feb 16. The first thing I noticed was how my sense of smell was greatly heightened. I hate it. I can smell ANYONE'S breath within a few yards of me, and it is horrible. It truly and literally churns my stomach and gives me the heaves. My taste buds have changed as well, and Water tastes yucky. I have tried Propel plain with electrolytes, Polar, and am about to try Fiji. I do like Propel Grape for a flavor, but sometimes I want just plain old water. Crystal Light seems too heavy on taste now. I am also having troubles with Protein. I get nauseous still while drinking. I still only have 1 ounce every 15 minutes. My surgeon suggested GENEPRO, which has 30 grams…

Hi! I will reverse my almost 20 year old VBG/Gastroplasty on October 6th to RNY. The VBG has´nt worked in ages and I was diagnosed with a broken staple line earlier this year. but it´s probably been like that for a very long time before that. I fell really motivated and have started the pre op liquid diet . I have so far lost 20 pounds which is great and above the target set by the surgeon.. I´ve seen a lot of threads on Lap-band ot RNY but few on my specific operation. Is there anyone out there who knows what to expect? Any specific problems that are common when converting from VBG to RNY or just the same as with the lap-band? Any input highly appreciated! Th…

I'm 8 days post op and feel like I can't get control of my head hunger. It's going to drive me mad! Is this something that just naturally fades or will it constantly be a problem? I all of a sudden drool over everything and get emotional watching my kids and husband eating dinner. I expected head hunger to rear it's head occasionally but its been constant and feels like torture. Looking for encouragement, advice, and tips to deal with this...i had this surgery to help break my addiction to unhealthy food and overeating, I am committed and do not regret it at all... My name is Cheshire, I have been dealing with PCOS since I was about 16 diagnosed with it in 2008. I have been trying to naturally or with diet and exercise to get rid of the almost 150lbs of weight that the doctor says I need to lose to become healthy. After a lot of time and reserach, my husband and I have decided that weight loss surgery is something we need to consider. So here I am going through the pysch visit, doing the sleep study test(tonight until wedensday) and my first visit with the nutrionist next week. I have a surgery date scheduled for Feb8,2016. Was wondering if anyone out there has a similiar story or a surgery date in Feb as well. Can't really talk a…

A recent study was conducted by Dr. Jos Runhaar of the Erasmus MC, Department of General Practice, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and colleagues. These researchers examined the records of 353 overweight or obese women (BMI ≥ 27 m/kg2), a subset of participants in the PROOF study (Prevention of Knee Osteoarthritis in Overweight Females), which was designed to examine the preventive efficacy of diet and exercise and glucosamine sulphate supplementation on the incidence of knee osteoarthritis. On average, the participants in this subgoup were 56 years old, and had BMIs of 33 kgm/m2. They compared the arthritis incidence in women who met a goal of losing either 5 kgm (about 11…

So I'm in the last stages of getting ready for this surgery, all requirements have been fulfilled, and I'm waiting for my doc to send everything to the insurance company (I hate to bug my support girl, so I'm waiting until Wednesday to call to see if it's been sent to insurance LOL) I work in an office. I have a sit/stand desk, so I can adjust my position throughout the day if I want/need to. I also have a pretty flexible position, so if I need to go lie down, or leave early I know that I can. I do administrative work, so there's no lifting, and we have an elevator to use. Bathroom isn't too far from my office, and my office isn't too far from the elevator. I'm really…

My surgeon wanted me to be checked for a hiatal hernia before surgery, as I've had issues with throwing up after eating for the past few decades. Well, yes, I do have a hiatal hernia. I also have esophagitis (from long-term GERD) and moderately severe gastritis. I'm thinking that the surgery should help to eliminate/reduce those issues, and have explained that to my Mom, also reminding her that I am doing this for ME, as esophagitis is known to lead to esophageal cancer, which no one wants. She, of course, did the whole "well, if you hadn't eaten so much for all these years" thing, and my response was "well, that's in the past, and we can't do anything about the past…

You guys! I'm one week away from having surgery! I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed! Does anyone have any advice? What should I stock in my house for the week back? What have you all found that was helpful for transitioning back to work? What did you bring to the hospital? I feel like I've been studying for months but now that it's so close, my mind is going blank! HELP!!! Also OMG I'M SO EXCITED!!!! :) :)

Ok so I just had my nutritional evaluation, scheduled my psychological evaluation and have class tonight. The more time that goes by, the more I keep finding myself thinking I can't wait to be skinny! I can't wait to wear all of the cute shorts and outfits that I've always loved but we're too big to wear! I'm very excited because at this moment I am more sure than ever that I want this surgery. Has anyone else had that aha moment where they put something on after surgery that they never thought they'd be able to wear? I bet it feels great. I can't wait to be skinny. Until then I will continue to work out and do my best with my diet but hopefully I won't chicken out before…

I was just wondering what type of exercise everyone has been doing after surgery? When I go to classes that don't really mention real exercise or what I imagine exercise to be. They just say things like during commercials walk around your house, or while your watching TV these are some things you can do. These comments to me are extremely degrading and make me feel as though these nurses think all overweight people do is sit on the couch and watch TV. I am getting gastric bypass because I genuinely cannot loose weight. I use my elliptical 3-5 days a week and I take spin classes twice a week but I can't loose weight. I've lost inches but as far as pounds maybe 5. I current…
