I had gb on 12/14 then a revision to repair a leak 12/20. I've been feeling pretty well but there are some days where I can't stomach my Protein shakes and overall don't feel well. It's like a yuck feeling vs I need to go to the E.R. Is that normal? Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi. I had gastric bypass on 12/21 and my pouch can hold about 1 Greek yoghurt or 8 oz of liquified pea soup. Or even 2-4 oz cottage cheese. I find drinking water is hard, but warm herbal tea is okay. I can drink 12 oz in about 20 minutes. How about you?

Hi everyone, I'm 2 wks post-op (RNY) and was wondering when others started to see a significant drop in their blood pressures? I was under the impression that most people's bp goes to normal levels with 48 hrs of the surgery but mine hasn't budged!

I had surgery on October 19th and surprisingly by the grace of God I think I have been doing extremely well except- my two capsules I was told ahead of time the b50 was nasty and had a horrible taste. How do u take it. It taste horrible like really really bad how can I get it down supposedly too early to swallow capsule and the digestion breakdown hoopla but I need help with that one mainly My instructions for that Vitamin was to unscrew the capsule and mix in a drink or something and take like a shot. It's horrible and unbearable Secondly- prevacid capsule is to be open as well and mixed with but the little pebble balls don't dissolve. I can't do the texture An…

I'm 2 wks postop (gastric bypass) and am wondering if the constant painful bloating and burping will ever end? It doesn't feel like the gas from the surgery- it seems to be inside my digestive tract. I'm careful to avoid all dairy products so it can't be lactose intolerance. And I'm careful to avoid Splenda and sugar alcohols. I haven't been able to tolerate Protein drinks so am just trying to eat high protein foods (about 2 tbsp split pea Soup & 1 egg a day) plus drinking lots of Water. I am up and down all day (due to contracting pneumonia, I don't have the energy yet to "exercise" per se). I'm eating gas-X strips like they were Christmas candy. But both se…

I had surgery mid December and lost 30 pounds within the first 2.5 weeks. In the last week my weight has stayed the same or gone up a 1/2 pound. I know everyone speaks of stalls, but I was really hoping it would not happen to me. I am so scared that I will not lose any more weight and its getting frustrated that I am eating very little and following the plan but the scale is not moving. I know I need to get more protein in because I really detest all of the protein supplement options. But I have been drinking at least 1 protein shake a day. I am not hungry so I have to force myself to drink the shakes. If I add in the second protein shake will that really be the differenc…

I'm getting a little nervous here... not going to lie! Band came out on 11/24- I'm just able to pick up my 2 year old in the past couple of days... Christmas and then BAM, surgery. So today begins my 1 week pre-op diet. My surgeon has us on liquids, Protein shakes and small healthy Snacks like greek yogurt or sugar free Jello and 1 modest meal (small portion of protein, very plain, and veggies). So not the worst. At least it allows some wiggle room for having a little Christmas dinner... my FIL's beef wellington is amazing! Had Nutrition class last week, and I stocked up on Vitamins and a new pretty Water bottle (it helps). One of the things they mentioned is h…

Hello All, I am new to the group. I have gone through all of my appointments and classes, just trying to lose 6 more lbs before they will give me a surgery date. Hopefully I will get a date by next week. Anyhow, after reading a few posts I am concerned with how many people said they did not lose significant weight early on. With everything I have read it sounds as though the beginning is when you have your biggest losses. Has this been the case for you? Or are you struggling still to lose weight? Thanks in advance!

We have all these storms moving in and I find myself leaning more towards Soups and casseroles which can be very rich and fattening. Since I am a vegetarian (my family is not) and I am a from scratch fanatic (I only buy canned Beans and peas nothing boxed or frozen) I have been making my own recipes. This is today's. It is a white bean and cabbage crockpot Soup with leeks and other goodness Since I will be eating it for a few days I added it to myfitnesspal You could add broth but it would up the sodium I plan on seasoning to taste as I slow cook it over the next 10 hours. I just added Water for now. I add tofu to each bowl for more Proteins. I cut it…

I have about 30 lbs to go and since the holidays I'm averaging no less than 1000 calories a day. I eat my half cup meals, 1/2 hour later I'm hungry again. And testing sweets during the holidays showed me I CAN EAT SWEETS : (( I'm scared... im always hungry now it seems and I'm exceeding my 700-900 calories a day no matter what I do. Protein and water is fine amd I am losing still slowly now, but why am I not ever really full anymore??

I am almost 2 weeks post-op and have developed stomach cramping after every meal and sip of water or bite of food. I had a soft poached egg yesterday and it lay real heavy in my tummy. This morning I started with cramps. Drinking water made it a bit better, but then it came back. I am back on liquids. This has me scared. Any thoughts on this?

I am three months post op and am just getting over a stomach bug with vomiting and diarrhea. It seems I can barely eat anything now, I fill up super fast and stay full for a really long time to the point that I am eating half of what I used to. Has anyone else had this for a few days afterwards? Is it normal? Is it almost like a pouch reset because I couldn't eat for a day and a half? (I am pushing fluids, just curious about food). Update - had my 3 mo post op appt and I am doing fine. I was told it can take a few extra days to get back to normal eating compared to before I had gastric bypass.

Hi, I'm having VSG surgery on January 13th. One of my big concerns is concerning hair loss. Any Black women with natural hair who have experienced this who can offer tips or suggestions? I'm on the fence of two extremes and just doing another big chop and starting fresh or getting a weave, and seeing what I can salvage from a protective style. Any suggestions would be appreciated....

I'm trying to figure out what made me so sick. I made protein balls tonight and tried one. Let's just say I will remember NYE 2015! Painful stuck feeling and lots of spitting or throwing up. Here are the ingredients: honey, oats, chia seeds, peanut butter, protein powder plus a little water mixed in. Any thoughts?

I am almost 3 years post-op and just recently starting having problems with taking my Zoloft. At first I thought the pill was too large so I split it in half, which seemed to work. However I've now started having severe reflux pain immediately after taking the pill. A doctor sent me for an upper GI where they found a hiatel hernia, but this shouldn't be causing the pain. I am being told now to get scoped. I found a thread on the lap band forum where several patients from that surgery are experiencing the pain as well, but the cause they identified (bacteria from the colon coming up through their stomach to the pouch) wouldn't explain this for gastric bypass patients.…

I'm just now able to eat pureed food. Now that I'm able to "eat" I'm learning to feel the pressure in my chest telling me to stop eating. It's hard to feel that sometimes then I overeat and it feels aweful!!!!! So my question is, did y'all feel this way and have a hard time knowing when to stop eating? It's only happened twice but my gosh It's awful. Btw I had gastric bypass.

Hello everyone. This is my first post. I had gastric bypass on December 22,2015. I'm at the two week mark tomorrow. My highest weight was 265. Weight at time of surgery 242. And current weight is 227. My question is...does anyone find that they are constantly hungry? My body doesn't tell me I'm hungry, so I know it's all mental. I'm mentally hungry all the time and I hate it. Did anyone else struggle with this and if so what did you do to stop the cravings of food. I'm so happy with this decision I've made, I know it is a step in the right direction, however I find that I'm also just unhappy that I can't eat. I'm sure I sound like such a complainer, but I really wan…

I had rny bypass surgery a year and a half ago and I had a couple questions. First - other than the sutures in the small bowel and proximal stomach is there any reason I would have had actual surgical clips left in me - and not been told about it? Second I just had to have a ct scan done with contrast and my proximal stomach shows as highly prominent and measuring 9.6 x 6 cm. the er doctor at first thought this might be normal from a recent surgery but my surgery is far from recent so they weren't sure what to think...

Hi, all! I have been lurking for a few months now but this is my first thread. I need advice and love from people that are going through or have gone through the same struggle. But first, let me back up... I am 24 years old and have been struggling with weight issues/various eating disorder issues since I was 13. My highest weight was around 275. On the day of my surgery (December 22nd) I was 263. I woke up from surgery in tons of pain. I was prescribed Tardil (?) but that was not cutting it. They ended up putting me on Dulaudid which did the trick. I did lots of walking but ultimately felt very, very sore. I felt Constantly extremely thirsty and bloated at the same tim…

Hi, I am about 13 weeks out and been having bad dizziness off and on. I have not been to make any correlations as to the cause. I just moved, got new insurance and am waiting to see my new primary care dr next Friday, new ins does not cover wls!!!!! I did manage to get old ins to cover a visit to a surgeon here in my new turn and had him do labs which are fairly normal. I think I will need to educate my new pcp. Anyone else have dizziness? What was the cause?? I get about 60g protein a day and do a decent job with water. Not taking any meds.

Hi All, I had a band removed and gastric bypass performed on Dec. 16th. During surgery the spleen was nicked and had to be removed. So instead of the 5 little cuts, I have 4 little cuts and one REALLY big one. The staples came out today (don't ask) and I am healing nicely. I was wondering if anyone else has a similar story and what your healing progress is like. How much exercise can you do? How much are you eating, etc.? Cheers

Does anyone here went through the same?? What can I possibly do to make my family not want to kill me? ???? like eating what...?? Sorry for the bad English!

I am 2.5 weeks post-op, and down a total of 34lbs (including 2 week pre-op liquids). I am just curious when your highest periods of loss occurred, and how long the rapid loss will keep up? I only have an additional 34 to lose to be at my personal goal, then another 15 to be at my Dr.'s goal for me. I would love the loss to keep up like it has been, but won't mind too terribly if it slows down soon either. I just would like to know what to expect!

For the first year after surgery and my surgeon would tell me that my deficiencies Would fix themselves within 18 months of having the surgery . I Started seeing a blood specialist and he laughed. He said my numbers needed serious intervention. I get weekly Iron and they keep printing out my labs but NO ONE EXPLAINS THEM TO ME! Like they can't be bothered. Drives me mad! Any medical field people in the house? Here is my latest .

A couple of new reports in JAMA Surgery shed some light on the impact of bariatric surgery on remission of Type 2 diabetes. One report focused on data from about 570 people who had undergone some type of bariatric surgery between 2005 and 2012, who also had Type 2 diabetes (T2DM). All had started with a BMI of 35 or more (morbid obesity — standard eligibility for such surgery). These folks were matched with diabetic patients who had not had surgery (1880 people), but were otherwise similar in terms of age when the operated people had surgery, sex and BMI. The main focus of the study was the extent to which T2DM remission occurred, and whether the level of hemoglobin A…

My name is Sharon. I will start out by saying I never really had a weight problem till my early 40's and then it was only 20 pounds or so. Well, I am now 60 and have developed diabetes, heart disease, sleep apnea, bad knees and I also have 4 or 5 bad discs in my back. My BMI is 37 and with all my comorbitities I do qualify for a bypass..I say bypass because that is the only surgery my insurance will pay for. My cardiologist and my neurosurgeon both agree that I should have the surgery..I cannot exercise or even walk much because of my back pain. Also, any exercise that gets my heart rate past 100 causes angina. My pcp says I just need to diet....gee why didn't I think…
