So next wednesday we are having a Christmas party at work. I have been going back and forth in my mind trying to decide if I should eat the food that will be provided or bring my own. I am worried that the food provided may not be appropriate and if it was I won't be able to eat much of it and my co-workers may wonder why. If I bring my own I of course will be able to eat it and be comfortable but then won't be enjoying the festivities as others will. The dinner actually is the main focus as it is a Christmas dinner provided by my workplace. What would you do? I am torn!!

I'm about six days away from my surgery. Scheduled 12/7. I've been on the preop liquid diet for over a week now and I am hating it. My stomach is no longer hungry but my head is like we need steak! I've tried adding more protein, having more of the allowed foods and drinking water. I hate soups and honestly the thought of eating a soup right now makes me even more nauseous. How do I get past this part? I know it's worth it and I know it is working but it's sooooo hard! Does anyone have any suggestions for other foods for this preop phase? I'm so close and don't want to fail now, but I am slightly bored and nauseated from the few choices I have right now!

Hi I'm an Aussie and going through the pre op stage with doctors appointments etc. I've chosen Gastric Bypass because I'm hopeless at controlling my sugar addiction. I can sustain a non sugar diet for a period of time, but then sooner or later my willpower breaks....and I'm heavier then ever before... ( a familiar story..I'm sure). I understand the bypass is just a tool; but how effective is it in controlling sugar cravings. I'm sooooo prepared to do the hard work but I'm concerned my bad habits will deter my best intentions I would appreciate any feed back

Other than the expected pain from surgery.... I feel awesome! Band came out 2 days ago. I've had ZERO heartburn since. I ate mashed potatoes and gravy and a few bites of very tender turkey. I didn't throw up. Holy crap I freaking hated that band! Now to heal and get ready for bypass on 12/29. What's the pre-op diet like for bypass? liquid for how long?

Hey everyone, I'm new to the process, just recently met with the surgeon and have started the check off process to meet all of the requirements of both the office and my insurance company for gastric bypass. I have to start a 24 week weight management program, and to be honest, they are giving me more grief about starting than the surgeon's office! Once I can finally get started with them, I have 24 weeks minimum until I can qualify for a surgery date. I work as a nurse, so while the office typically recommends 10 days off, I'm going to need more when the time comes. I'm not sure how to go about letting management know, how much time should I give them in advance ? Our s…

Any band to bypass revisions with high starting bmi and slow weight loss ever make it to goal? If so, It would comfort me to hear it. Currently only down 60lbs since revision surgery four months ago. I'm 110 pounds down since pre lapband in 2007....but I still have over 75 lbs to go to make into onederland. Would ideally like to get 110 more lbs off to get to a normal bmi. Is this possible? I'm in a terrible stall/plateau/hellish nightmare...and havent lost anything in over three weeks. I know I need to improve on my Water intake. My Protein, exercise, suppliments, and calories are all ok though. Pre lapband I was about 387 lbs back in 2007. Currently 275 (fou…

This is the start of my 4th week post surgery. So far, so good in most cases. I've had some ups and some downs. One thing that has bothered me and can't figure out is "why is my OLD stomach growling and gurgling so much?" It's not a problem that I need to seek medical care for, but it defiantly is annoying. Anyone else have this and find a cure or does it eventually go away?

Hello everyone I wanted to know what apps you're using for logging you're food? I haven't tried my fitness pal because I've read how it doesn't match with our low caloric intake. I've tried Baritastic and Peachtree Bariatrics ( even though I'm not a patient it's a great tool for any bariatric patient). I just not a huge fan because of their measuring for serving sizes or portions. Has anyone tried anything else?

Hi All, I will be having gastric bypass late August to early September per my surgeon.. I already have a Disney World vacation planned and paid for in November. So that should put me 9-10 weeks out from surgery.I would like to know if anyone else has gone that soon after their surgery? Also, were you able to ride the rides just fine? I LOVE rides/roller coasters and will be sad if I can't ride.. We did get the FREE dining plan and I know there is no way I could ever eat as much food as that plan offers, but oh well. lol If you have any tips for me that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

So... I'm overweight. I am no longer obese. It's so weird. I have been obese for over half my life. To see that "overweight" BMI was sort of a shock to me. It's weird how the little things surprise me so much. Like the other day I bought a medium shirt. A freaking Medium. I always buy XL. Or how I fit more comfortably in the bathtub. Or wearing boots outside of my jeans. Or.... well there are so many. I just love life today

So, my surgery was Oct. 26, 2015. Prep and postoperative total weight loss was fast and a lot! 45 pounds to be exact. Then November 11th I hit a dead stall. In fact I gained 3 pounds in 3 days. So I need some advice. Here is what I am starting Monday, November 30th. 1. I joined Planet Fitness and am going to go 3 to 4 times a week. 2. I'm thinking of going back to all liquid diet for 3 days to jumpstart, though I'm afraid that will sap my energy even more 3. Going to listen to fellow wls patients advice and ideas of what you have done and what not to do. I thank you all in advance! How open were/are you on social media about your surgery? I don't feel ashamed for my choice, but I do know many people view WLS as "an easy way out." I just don't feel like defending anything, but, on the same note, want to inspire others I know that are fighting a losing (gaining) battle with their weight. So far, I think my plan is to wait until the day or surgery, then "come out", so to speak. Most of My family knows and very close friends I talk to daily. The first time I told anyone outside of my inner circle, I got the judgey looks and was told it wasn't necessary and to just eat right and exercise (trainer at the gym).

Had surgery on 11/16 and, all things considered, am feeling fan-frickin-tastic. This app/forum has been a phenomenal resource for me and I truly believe that reading about the pain really helped me understand and prepare for it. Anyway, now that I'm only a couple days out and clearly an ~*expert*~ (feel free to laugh here) these are my stray observations: - There is something living in the lower left side of my tummy. I feel it stabbing, clawing, and itching me from the inside out. It gets its kicks by pulling out a little feather and tickling me until I want to roll on the floor for release, not unlike my dog. I fully expect a little alien head to pop out that clus…

  29. Hi, everyone! I'm just starting this whole journey, currently awaiting my first big seminar (six-hours long!) newbie at my bariatric center. I'm 31, married, one kiddo, and live in Iowa City. Without going into my big long backstory (you can see that on my profile), I need to jump right into my question: How did you break the news to your family / friends / co-workers? Pretty much no one in my life is overweight, and if they are -- they definitely aren't dealing with their issues. My father especially is a very fit man (always has been), and it's hard for him to understand my issues. We don't talk too much about it. I've brought up from time to time that I'm in the…

Yesterday I was on my first doctor’s visit after the surgery (5 weeks out). I am living in Poland and had my surgery here. In Poland post op medical support is not very much advanced. On this forum I have noticed that most of you have set weight goals. So being very well educated by you I have asked my doctor: How much of my weight should I loose after my surgery? He scrapped his head and said: It depends, its individual matter, usually people are losing 70% of their excess weight. What in my case give me the goal of about 27 BMI. But of course there are individuals who can reach completely proper BMI factor. I just wonder how was it in your case? Did you Dr set the …

I'm trying to not let it get to me. I had my RNY on 10/12. By the end of my 2nd week, I'd lost 14 lbs post op, 5 lbs pre op....a total of 19 lbs. On my 3rd week, I lost 1 lb... A total of 20 lbs. I've had no weight loss in 2 weeks. My fiance and I weigh in on Mondays. If this upcoming Monday I have no weight loss again, it'll be 3 weeks with no weight loss. This is so frustrating. Also, I should mention I'm only asking because I got an OK from my doctor to be able to drink on a special occasion: my birthday, just would like some ideas, thank you in advance ! -How fast does alcohol hit you, and how much does it take before you feel it? -How long do you feel the effects for ? -Is it over fast, if so, do you drink more ? -What kind of drinks do you have ? -Any cocktail suggestions that don't make you dump ?

  38. My name is Shannon. I'm 44, married, with 3 sons. I had gastric bypass on 9/23/15..it will be 3 weeks tomorrow. As I am physically getting better, I'm emotionally getting worse. It is so hard to imagine not being able to eat my favorite foods again. I hate seeing food commercials, restaurants, or thinking about chocolate. I started this journey, 2 weeks pre-op at 253 pounds and today, I weighed 215.6. I'm happy about the weight loss but I'm so depressed about not eating. Any encouragement or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
