I'm about 2 1/2 months out and have a love/hate relationship with food. I have cravings, love the smell of food, but it all tastes horrible. I'm slowly developing aversions to foods I loved and could tolerate. I'm down to eating a little Peanut Butter, broccoli cheese Soup from panera, munchee cheese, and refried Beans. So many foods don't set well anymore, especially meats. I'm not even up to 4 ounces a meal. I'm so exhausted and weak and I know I need a lot more Protein, but I can't hardly tolerate food. Any suggestions? I used to love cottage cheese and tuna, but the thought of eating them one more time makes me nauseous.

I had the Bypass surgery in June, since then I haven't had any problems with eating little bits of sugar, now it makes me really tired and feel like I'm going to pass out. I've never been diabetic and my blood sugar is usually about 80 or so fasting. Is it possible I'm now diabetic or is this normal?

I had RNY on 11/9 and today was my first post op visit. I've only lost 1.9 pounds! I have done everything I can (exercise, protein intake, water) and this is what I get? The Doctor isn't concerned but it's disheartening to see such a small number considering all that I've given up. Very discouraged right now.

Hello I finally got my surgical date it's about time I did my second round of six-month appointments the nutritionist meetings everything I was told that I needed other appointments to finish my six-month schedule of appointments but that wasn't true they made a mistake and I had to make unnecessary appointments from the dietitian for them look at the records that already had been completed. I was given December 18th!!!! Yeahhhh finally after two failed lap bands i can't wait to get the bypass!!!! Hopefully at 52 years old I will heal properly and be able to go to work quick as I'm the only provider in my house. Husband has cancer and can't work and two of my youngest in …

My first post here, just wanted to see if anyone else's surgeon told them the same thing as me. I had my surgery Friday and I'm still having pain in the bigger incision area. My surgeon today told me that he cut through the muscle in the area and it's still healing. I understand that, but my mom said her muscle was never cut through for her bypass. Anyone else talk to their surgeon about this? I'm just going to assume there are a few techniques on how this is done.

Surgery week is here! My surgery is Wednesday, November 18th. I've got most of my stuff packed. I am packing for the hospital and the weekend after as I am staying with a friend at her apartment that has an elevator! My kitchen is cleaned out except for post-surgery items. I have the rest of today and the morning tomorrow to work and then two weeks+ off for recovery. One more trip to the pharmacy to refill prescriptions and get a few things and I'm ready. This journey started when I was put on my first diet at the age of 6 because I wasn't thin. (I wasn't fat either, but I wasn't thin.) I've never been thin, but its only been the last 10-15 years that I've really…

My wife is 10 months post op surgery and she has absolutely no energy, she is getting a vitamin b12 shot every two weeks, all of her blood test came back great even though she is not taking any vitamins, the only thing that was low was her vitamin D, my theory is she is not eating enough protein in a day, she normally eats nothing until dinner then dinner is next to nothing, she has lost 175 pounds from 353 to 181. Doing great in that scheme of things, light to no exercise. I'm guessing if she ate more during the day, did at least 15 mins of exercise and took a vitamin D pill it may help?? Any other suggestions? Thanks!!

There was an interesting study done by Dr. Guenther Boden of the Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia and colleagues recently. They confined six normal-weight men to hospital beds for a week, encouraging them to stuff themselves with food — to the tune of 6,000 calories per day. Their objective was to investigate the genesis of obesity-associated insulin resistance. This study seemed to show that increased oxidative stress was related to acute obesity onset. And the researchers suggested that a Protein, the GLUT4 glucose transporter, was affected by the excess of reactive oxygen species. This protein is produced by fat cells after insulin stimulation, an…

Hello everyone, im new to this forum and i was wondering did any of you only had 75 or 80 pounds to lose? Do you think RNY was the best option? I was originally going to have gastric sleeve surgery since I didn't have to lose much weight and was a safer option surgery wise but now my doctor says no i have to go with RNY because my Gerd is pretty bad plus i have gastritis. Sorry just a little scared since i see more complications with RNY and i see people getting bony skinny which i dont want, i just want to be on a healthy weight. Thank you in advance for your responses

I'm 8 weeks out from rny surgery and everything has been smooth sailing on my journey so far, but I tell you what after I exercise I want to cry or rip heads off! All I'm doing is walking for 2 min then do planks or squats or wall squats for a minute and do this for 40 min. How long will this last?

  17. Hi!! Thought I would post and hopefully reassure others considering a band to bypass. I have been banned twice. First failed due to slippage, and this one I have chosen to have removed due to disappointing weight loss results. At first banding I was 220 pounds, lost 22, removed band and put all back on plus an additional 26. Rebanded 5 years ago at 246, lost about 50 then put back on about 25 during and after pregnancy. With this band I felt like I was constantly choking on my food, but never really full. In the end after several fills I was consuming a lot of saucy slider foods.. and the indigestion pain has been terrible. Not cool. Today prior to the band removal…

So I went for my bypass revision today and when I woke up, I was told that they had to remove the band and abort the bypass surgery. It couldn't be done because the band eroded by stomach and my organs were swollen and smashed together. I can try again in three months. Anyone else have this issue? I feel so defeated and hurt. I've had nothing but problems with this band It's the worst decision I've ever made. I'm so emotional end just upset right now.

I'm 3 days post op my surgery was Wednesday November 11 and I'm having such a hard time getting in enough liquids and proteins. I am doing pretty good just sipping on water but anything that has a strong flavor (broths, popsicles, protein shakes) I'm having such a hard time consuming. I have the pro stat citrus protein supplement I purchased before surgery and it is just way to strong now. Can anyone give me some tips on getting in more liquid and protein in something a little more appetizing?

First day back! Surgery was the 10th. They brought me back around 7:30 am for the procedure. Everything was good until they wheeled me up to the room. I started walking right away like they explained. I was so nauseous but I pushed myself. Ended up with a pca pump with morphine. Pain was at a good level. Walked again then felt a wave of nausea out of now where. Ended up vomiting about 60 cc of blood then 30 cc in front of the surgeon. They sent me back down for an endoscopy. They had cauterize a few areas. Ended up with two blood transfusions but overall I feel great now. Walking daily is a big help.

I have suddenly developed diarrhoea and I'm not sure why?...my last meal was chicken and salad and I've tolerated that well before ... Since then I've gone back to my protein shakes to give my stomach a rest .... Has anyone else been through a similar experience? If it doesn't get better in a couple of days I'm going to see my doctor .

I've had my band re-filled, and unfilled a couple of times. I'm just so tight all of the time. It's completely empty and it sucks. I throw up in my sleep. So... Time to re- focus for holiday temptations and make sure old habits don't creep back in. Probably time to hit the Gym even harder as well .

It is November 2015. This means that all the readers of this group have been out for one year! For me, I find this to be miraculous. I've lost 110 pounds from Oct 28. Absolutely everything is different. One of the big things I have done for myself is to find a therapist who deals with body issues. She deals with weight loss women and kids and anorexia. Before surgery, I had gone about 15 years without looking in the mirror. Amy (new therapist) has me looking in the mirror for 5 minutes a day. Believe me, 5 minutes is a long time! 31. Where to begin? In 2010 I was 340 and miserable, felt as though I was standing on a cliff hanging on by my toes. I decided to check into bypass surgery as I had a friend who had been successful with it. My insurance covered a local dr and clinic. Well, this is where things went wrong! The Dr. was interested in treating me with the tenants newest, safest, fasted and longest lasting, easiest way to lose weight - the lap band. As many patients would do, I got behind the Dr. and was all in, gastric bypass was left in the dirt. So I went through all the meetings, the appointments, the counseling etc, then it was liquid Pre Op diet and a loss of 25 pounds through that, surgery …

He did point out that I needed to drink a min. Of 64 oz of Water a day. How does everyone else get in that much water in a day? I also need to increase my Protein to 60 grams a day. Help, I'm struggling getting all of the requirements in. They did move me to stage 3. That's a plus. However, no rice, bread or Pasta. My next appointment isn't until Dec 8th. Thanks for listening.

I've fought with my primary care provider who was not supportive of my decision (through talks I heard that she was denied the surgery because she did not meet requirements and takes it out on her patients, which is so wrong ????), appointments take forever to plan because, well, they do (I've been at this for a year now because of shortage of docs at the military hospital where I am getting surgery done), and because there is one bariatric nurse that handles the patient's appointments for the surgery clinic and plans surgeries, she is an EXTREME…

I tried eating a yogurt Sunday afternoon and shortly thereafter I could barely stand up straight. Called my surgeon and he suggested I go to the ER since it was bugging me for so long. I went, had blood work and a CT scan-- everything was normal. Doc wrote it off to menstrual cramps; but I know my body and know that I never get crippling cramps.
