I have been very careful to stay away from caffeine and any and all NSAIDs, and all the other no-no's. I had some dental work done and was prescribed Norco (rather than ibuprofen) for the pain. What I found was that within 15 minutes of taking half of a dose, I was doubled over with intense pain in my pouch. The pain lasts for about 30 minutes and then goes away. I talked to my doctor about it and they did an ultrasound and didn't see anything to be alarmed by. She said she couldn't understand why Norco would cause me pain because it's what she prescribes to all her Bariatric patients and I am the only one who had problems. She prescribed me Tramadol as a replacement....…

I will be two weeks out from surgery tomorrow. So far, food hasn't been too much of a challenge for me. However, perhaps in part from the surgery but also in part because of the season I am always cold so really wanting a lot of Hot drinks. Since pumpkin spice lattes are out of the question (obviously!... but darn... I do regret not having one before surgery) and I am ready for a change from my herbal tea stash (mostly peppermint, chamomile, and a few herbal blends) I thought I would see if the hive mind has any ideas for sugar free and caffeine free hot beverages. Thanks in advance!

Oct. 26th is my day! I'm scared, I'm excited, I'm nervous, I'm happy, I'm emotional and I am so looking forward to waking up after surgery. I'm probably overly prepared, but better that than having surprises right? The bypass worries me less than the removal of the failed lap band. I keep having a recurrent dream that I wake up from surgery and all that was done was remove the lap band. Anyway, I hope and pray this is the answer to all my prayers of getting helth again for myself and my family. My father died when he was my age, and I don't want my son to have to live without his Dad too, and my Grandkids as well. So the hard part of the journey for me I think is nearly o…

Hi All, Well I'm back on the boards again and have an appointment for Bypass in December. I started this journey in 2006 with a LapBand in TJ,Mx. I moved to Tucson, AZ later that year and found that no medical center would accept me as a regular patient. I found a doc that was doing a private practice in weight loss who agreed to work with me, however it seemed I could never make it past 8 weeks without major swelling that called for a re-adjustment...and starting over with an unfill. After a few years of this I just couldn't afford the 300$ weekly visits as I went back to university, so I unfilled it in 2010 and there it sat. Now I am through university and am livin…

One of the reasons why I had RNY gastric bypass surgery was because I had Type II Diabetes. I am 28 months post-op. My diabetes went into remission the day I left the hospital 2 days after surgery and has remained in remission ever since. A recent study implies that controlling blood-sugar levels may help prevent dementia offering hope to patients with diabetes that keeping glucose levels in check might reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and other types of cognitive impairments. http://www.foxnews.com/health/2015/09/16/controlling-blood-sugar-may-help-prevent-dementia-study-finds/ So there may be another side benefit that I never thought of.

Finally got the call today that I'm approved! Surgery is scheduled for 11/17. I'm so excited. My nerves of waiting for the insurance are gone. But now the real nerves are setting in. It's amazing to think next year at this time I'll be a completely different person.

Good day. I'm new around. It's been one month since i underwent a mini gastric bypass. I used to suffer from cellulitis every 3 months prior to the op. Now one month after the op, im again with cellulitis issues with my right leg, fever and vomiting. I wonder is vomiting will cause complications to the surgery inside and that is my stomach. If anyone can help. Grateful.

I had the revision from lap band to gastric bypass 2 days ago. To the great surprise to my doctors,I was up and walking and passing the mandatory fluids so I only needed one night in the hospital. I'm just on clear liquids but so far so good. Originally (11 years ago) the lap band worked for me and I lost about 100 pounds but when I had my gall bladder removed the band had flipped and it was replaced. The new band never worked for me. I constantly needed adjustments and fills. Over the last 5 years I gained back 55 pounds. My esophagus is enflamed. I have been dehydrated for years because I could not tolerate water. I had difficulty taking any medications becaus…

So I'm 10 weeks post-op from bypass, and two weeks post-op from gallbladder removal. Before the gallbladder came out, I had trouble with nausea and dry heaves. Surgery was supposed to clear that up, and did - for one glorious day. Then the dry heaves came back worse than before. Nausea's not bad though. My surgeon said it's due to the ulcer they discovered during a post-bypass EGD. I'm on Carafate now, as of yesterday. He said it could take weeks to heal, but in the meantime I get so weakened by these dry heaving spells, I'm shaking all the time! Usually it seems to be caused by gas - every time I take even a sip of Water, I dry heave uncontrollably. And the dry heaving g…

I had my surgery 9/30/14 and am down 126 pounds. Went from 330 to 204, size 26 to 16 (ish). Amazing! I feel healthier and more confident in myself... then there is the dreaded but. But I feel like I havent done enough, lost enough. .. changed enough. I have been struggling with these last 4 pounds to get to 200 for MONTHS. I havent budged.on the scale and I'm not losing inches. I just feel like it's all stopped and that I'll never get to goal. (Doctor gave me a goal of 170/180 but personally I would want to try for 150/160 - I'm only 5ft 2in, so thats still on the chunky side). Its so hard because I try to listen to my body while at the same time maintaining portion co…

Good Day people. Is it normal that I cannot eat and not willing to eat one month after op? The nutritionist gave me a chart about the time and what to eat..but i cannot follow the chart. I can take only twice the protein and cannot eat all the meals prescribed. I do feel very weak but i just cannot eat. Is it normal? Am i going to be able to eat a bit more afterwards without feeling nausea?

Still waiting for my surgeon to send the recommendation letter so I can get my insurance to approve my surgery. I'm really starting to freak out that this is never going to happen and this has all been just a big giant elaborate joke on gullible stupid me! I've been done with my end since October 5th and it still isn't done. I know(I think) that it should be done either today or tomorrow at the latest, but OH.MY..GOD!!!! Do they not know how freaking important this is to me?!?!?!?!? It feels like each day I wait is another wasted day that I could have had back with my kids in a healthier body down the road!

I'm two weeks post op and struggling so much with what and at what intervals to eat during the course of a day. I find myself not desiring any of the puree foods and also not being hungry most of the day. I am scared that I am doing all of this wrong and fear that after such a big step I am failing to do my bit to meet the procedure half way. Can anyone suggest alternatives?

After bariatric surgery, exercise is recommended for most patients. Generally 30 minutes per day is the recommended amount. But several patients exceed these goals. How might this additional exercise affect their health? A recent study by the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center et. al. analyzed responses from 12 large studies involving 370,460 men and women about their exercise habits. They found that those that followed their 30 minutes per day regimen specified by the American Heart Association (AHA), showed a slight decrease in heart failure (compared to those who did not exercise at all) but those who doubled and quadruple the amount of exercises had…

So, a picture can be worth a thousand words. A friend of mine, also a bariatric patient sent me this image. Seeing the size of the bulk of the person in relation to the frame that has to carry it all was quite an epiphany for me. Though our weight becomes a threat to our health and well being, the size of our skeletal framework to carry the load does not change. Viewing this made me ache all over. Just another powerful affirmation of why so many of us need WLS to improve our health and well being.

Hi Everyone! One of the Many things I didn't like about the band was that I never experienced what I would call a "satisfied belly" feel. I would stop when no longer hungry of I'd vomit. My RNY is two weeks from Mo day and I'm wondering......unlike the band, do you feel full/satisfied as one would feel without the band or what is the sensation like after RNY? Thanks! Marieze

So the other day, I called my bariatric counselor to ask if I could have egg whites, poached for Breakfast. I told her "I usually have one egg and three egg whites poached for my breakfast." I have normal cholesterol levels I'm a diabetic that has worked tremendously hard to keep my A1C at normal levels. I had to gain 15 pounds to meet my insurance company's requirements for RNY, which was a killer after a year of fighting to lose and keep off sixty pounds. I need to lose more, and haven't been able to do so. My main purpose for this surgery is in the hope of resolving my diabetes (strong, strong family history, even with normal weight relatives). I have been heavy all …

Hello everyone! I'm almost 6 weeks post op from band to bypass and I work 12 hour shifts from 19:00-07:00. I used to take Vyvanse pre-surgery to help me focus and stay awake. I don't want to start on it again. My dilemma is that I'm not supposed to have caffeine and I'm dying. Yes dying. Any suggestions? Wondering if I'm ok to have a little bit on the 3 full nights that I work. I don't drink coffee. I would just use the Water enhancers. Anyone done this or should I just suck it up? I sleep pretty well in the day and I can take a couple of breaks at night where I go for a walk. I'm a 911 or a 000 dispatch supervisor (depending on where you live) and I can't afford…

Can the board use another question on this? -) I did a search on the board and found countless discussions on Vitamins. So, forgive me for bringing it up again. However, there's so much conflicting info and polar opposite opinions seemingly among doctors and members here! Can someone just give it to me plain and simple, just the "truth," haha. Seriously, I thought I'd give it one last try and ask again before plunking down my money. I asked my dietician and she failed to mention a Multivitamin or possibly B12. She did recommend Bariatric Advantage Chewy Bites 500 mg CA and 500 IU vit D. She sez it's the best available. I'm hesitant after what I've read here about B…

Please I need advice..... I am about 4 weeks out. I do not see a big weight difference i have lost only including the Fluid gained in hospital 24 lbs, if i drink 80 oz a day and do 60 grams Protein I seem to gain weight. is this normal. I feel my eyeballs are floating. it is so hard to drink so much a day including my Protein drinks and eat 1 been or 1 vegetable a day per say my nutritionist. If I eat it is 2-3 spoon full of either a bean (for fiber/Protein) mixed California mix for a vegetable or some Greek yogurt. this id what my nutritionist has me doing. my calories are still under 500 a day. I'm anxious to get the band out due to problems I've had with it in the past four years and looking forward to the bypass to help with the weight. I do find that a few well meaning friends and family are not very supportive.

I never hear anyone talk about the pain you feel when you eat solid food. I'm wondering I am the only one experiencing this? The pain is excruciating, it'll take me to my knees! I'm unable to function, barely able to handle it at all and it will last for 2-4 hours. When I was able to eat solid food, the first thing I tried was soup with veggies so soft they melted in your mouth. I had two teaspoonfuls and before I took my third I felt this really hard knot forming from my stomach to my throat, my back teeth started ringing and shooting pain. It hurt so bad I could barely get to my bed to lay down! It lasted 3 hrs. I figured I ate to fast. The next day, I tried again, the…

Anyone willing to be a buddy? I'm 27 yrs old, from WI, 5'7" BMI around 40. My main questions revolve around vitamins, shakes, liquids, food, etc. My surgeon's plan is pureed from day 2, but the focus is liquid, protein = 64 ounces. Hi all, well this is my first post. I am due to have Gastric Bypass in two days. I have been ok leading up to this point, but the nerves are starting to kick in, especially when I think of my kids and anything happening to me. Like everyone here, I have battled with my weight all my life. I did manage to lose the weight on my own through diet and exercise twice. The fist time I lost about 50kg (110 pounds) and then I put it all back on again. a couple years later I lost 65kg (140 pounds) and slowly put it all back on again. About three years ago (after a lot of convincing by my doctor) I had Lap-Band. It did not work. I lost a little bit of weight and then just stalle…

I'm down almost 10lbs in 2 weeks!! And I don't know what to do! Any body been through this once they reached goal and if so how do you make it stop???

What am I doing? I start my liquid diet tomorrow. So what do I do for supper? I go out with my BFF and we share some appetizers and I have a mudslide. Because they are things I probably won't have again. I totally went crazy. Now the regret sets in. I have to lose 10-15 lbs in the next 14 days to have my surgery from lap band gone terribly wrong to RNY. Why would I sabotage that for some queso and liquor? I mean really. What a bad choice!!!

I had my band and port removed on 8/10 and ever since then, I am FREEZING cold!!!! I have no earthly clue as to why! I turned off all of the fans and enjoy going outside in the hot humid 89 degree weather....in my fleece bathrobe because my body thinks it nice outside! I can tell you, that is not me. Usually I am turning the thermostat to 70, tuning ceiling fans and room fans on to stay cool. What in the world is wrong with me? My husband and son are suffering because I am so cold. I often have to get in a hot shower to get warm! Anyone else experience this aft…
