Is there a list of companies that send out free samples? I saw one this past week and failed to write down where it was so I could go back to it. :-( I am not sure which site I saw it at.

I had Gastric Bypass 12/18/14. I have a question about pain meds. I had Total Knee Replacement in June, Thumb CMC Arthroplasty with Tendon Transfer in July, yesterday Gallbladder surgery and on Wednesday I will be have the same hand surgery but on my right hand. I am having a terrible time with pain meds. Most of them are not working for me. Could my Gastric Bypass be the cause? The meds either do not work or wear off very quickly.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give advice regarding how having WLS affected your kids? I have a 3yo girl and 5mo old boy. I'm having gastric bypass later this month. I wonder about what to tell my 3yo. I wonder about how they will handle the surgery itself and not seeing them for 2+ days. I wonder about how the first few weeks will affect them as they watch me recover from surgery and the changes I will be going through. And I wonder about how this will affect them down the road psychologically, watching me eat different from everyone else and hearing me talk about it as they grow up. Any advice from those who have gone through this with young kids would be…

I had my RNY on June 23rd and am in a terrible state. The surgery went ok but I ran into complications a few days later and no doctors seemed to take my pain seriously. I suffer from horrible anxiety attacks that can cause my tolerance level to take a downward dive. But after a full day in the ER, 3 days of mind numbing pain and then a follow up appointment it was determined that I needed emergency surgery to repair a hernia. The hernia was initially the size of a dime and grew to over a plum in the course of a few days post op. Post second surgery in under a week I was sent home. Now my anxiety is so bad I can't sleep, function or care for myself or family. Has anyone …

So in short, my story is: Lap band in 2005; gastric sleeve in 2008 and LAST surgery, Bypass scheduled for 9/14/15. Been pretty tough on myself because of the past but still forging forward. Life is short, I don't want to have regrets with anything - so here's to finally working at it. would love a mentor. thank you

I'm pre-op with my consultation scheduled for the 15th. Is anyone nursing after having the RNY? Were you nursing when you had the surgery? I have a very good supply, so I'm okay with a decrease. My baby is almost 11 months old.

Hello guys! Today is my one month surgery anniversary. I waited all week to step on the scale because I was excited to see what it would say on the one month mark. I got up this morning and went into the bathroom to weigh myself... and was quickly disappointed. Only three pounds lost in a week and a half. Since surgery on August 18th, I've lost 17 pounds. That's 17 pounds in over 4 weeks. I know there's nothing wrong with me, I know I'm doing everything completely by the book, I know that a lot of people lose slowly at first, and that stressing about it is silly. I know my body is still healing and I knew before going into surgery that losing this slowly or even slow…

We have all asked ourselves this question, why can't I loose the weight on my own? I think different things contribute to the whys, but for most of us it's because we are hungry all the time, food is everywhere, we like stuff that isn't good for us, we are busy, and food taste good! It's hard to resist foods we want, WLS doesn't give you that choice for a while, if you eat to much or bad it comes back up! You can fill up on very little with WLS. Eat to much fat or sugar and you'll be sick. Food is still everywhere but you start noticing that you can probably find something good for your WLS tummy just about everywhere also. I'm only a little over 3 months out and I'…

So my surgery is in 2 weeks. When I started the process I was 257. I am now about 240ish. So my clothes are already getting big. How long after surgery did people wait to stop shopping? Money is super tight for me right now and I don't want to buy things just to have them not fit shortly after. I'm thinking I will be living in sweat pants for awhile.

So I'm a pretty regular exerciser. And I recently started my two week liquid diet. My calorie intake is about 600-800 a day. And I think it's finally starting to get to me. I feel really weak and tired and it's only been a couple days. Should I cut back on the exercise until after surgery or should I keep trying? Will I get use to this? Or is it going to get worse? I hate the idea of not working so im curious as to what other people did???

In two days I will be given the green light to start introducing "soft" Proteins into my diet. While I am over the moon about not having to suck down broth and can actually put some substance passed my lips, I am freaked about taking on too much too soon. I have read SEVERAL articles, journals, personal stories and all seem to differ slightly in how "soft proteins" are defined. On my resource sheet my doctor describes soft Protein as flaky white fish, moist chicken, ground turkey, thin slice lunch meats but other information suggests those items must be pureed. As in blended to paste. Not only does that make my stomach turn but I don't think I could eat meat in paste…

I usually have my esophagus stretched about every 5 to 7 years and am probably about due for it. I'm scheduled for the bypass on October 29th. Should I get it done b4 my surgery? I'm not really experiencing much problem swallowing unless I eat too large bites of steak or chicken. What is your thoughts?

I am just so grateful for this surgery, my wanting to take charge of my life in the 1st place and my surgical team, and of course my amazing husband who has made this so easy on me! I will be 1 year out Oct 21st, down 113 lbs so far. No more diabetes, high blood pressure, acid reflux, fatty liver, edena, fibro myalgia, daily chronic pain, self loathing, and that feeling of dread. I also no longer take 17 meds, instead I take 3 and all my Vitamins every day! My self worth, self image and love of life has replaced the exact opposites! I now want to share my zest for life, enthusiasm of wls and success with both pressure and post open peers. I talk to my surgeon tom…

Once I was approved for bypass last month my weight dropped like a rock, no matter what I eat! My band will be removed and I am suppose to have the RNY. My pre-op class is next week, my pre-op Dr. consultation in 2 weeks. My weight is strangely dropping, I have no idea why - I have purposely tried not to lose weight because my bmi was around a 38. now it is around a 35 (unless my scale is wrong!) I have been unable to lose weight for years and now it is coming off without me trying. Great if I wasn't looking forward to the surgery. Bad because i want the surgery. Has anyone ever been denied after they were approved? Like on the day of surgery? I'm really bothere…

Well my scale started moving again and this morning I officially hit 100 lbs from my hw. I'm so excited, I can't believe surgery was less than 5 short months ago. I still would like to lose more, but I am so happy. Next milestone goal is 125 lbs and I want to lose that by the end of the year. That will put me in onderland.

Hello All, I opted to have the lap band 6 years ago b/c I was too afraid to have the RNY surgery. At that time I weighed 250 lbs. I was also afraid of becoming too thin if I had that surgery. I had the failed band removed 1 year ago. Now I weigh 218 and still need help with my weight as well as diabetes and HBP. My insurance is NOW approving the sleeve, but One of the reasons for having the band removed is due to severe acid reflux (HORRIBLE). I know hind sight is 20/20, and my new surgeon believe that I will not become too thin even now. I know that It's my health that I need to focus on and I do. I know that RNY is the right surgery for me and that I can't rid my di…

This weekend I have been kind of emotional. It's finally seems real. I was at my oldest sons football game Friday night and I almost teared up. It just hit me, before the end of the season I will be able to sit more comfortably in the bleachers, dress in cuter clothes and be able to jump up faster when a big play happens. He is a senior and on senior night in November, when the senior players and parents are on the field being introduced, I won't feel so embarassed with the way I look. I am going to extend my life to watch all 5 of my kids grow up and watch them get married and have kids of their own. I lost both of my parents within 3 years of each other both in teir six…

I am over 13 years out from my 2002 surgery date and I have slipped back into terrible habits. I have gained back 50 of the 100+ pounds I lost in the first year. I'm starting to research Chris Powell's carb cycling and wanted to know if anyone else has tried this tactic after gastric bypass. I know some people who have had the lap band have been successful, but I feel like with our volume limitations, I don't know if it is practical.

I have lost 80 lbs. since my surgery in June 2015. I've been working out an hour a day, every day. I watch everything I eat like a hawk. I've been losing really well, but now I see to be at a stall that is lingering into a 3rd week. I am barely cracking 2 lbs. lost per week. Has anyone else had this kind of slow down during the same time period?

I've been on meds for depression since I was 21. I'm now 56, and have suffered with several bouts of major depression episodes. I'm stable on my psych meds now, and have been stable for about two years. I'm worried this will affect the effectiveness of the meds or that the surgery will cause a major depression episode. I've been told exercise is very effective after surgery and will help with depression. I just hope I remain stable. I plan to discuss with my psych before surgery, just wondering about some of your experiences.

Hi everyone! Question for you. Let me preface this by saying I have contacted my dr. office and will follow up accordingly. I'm 1 month post op from band to GP revision. Two mornings ago I stretched in a weird way, and felt a popping or tearing under my left ribcage. It hurt and it's still sore. I called my doctors office in a panic and she said "how do you feel"? Hahaa! I actually feel fine. No fever or nausea. I'm eating just fine, still getting in my fluids in but it's just sore like I've been working out. She said it was probably scar tissue but watch for hemorrhaging in my bm's. (Yah that will be in 3 days! Sorry.. Lol) Just wondering if anyone has had somethi…

Hello all, So after all my questioning if this was the right thing to do, I went through with surgery on the 10th. And I must say, I feel pretty good about my choice. However, this gas will not pass! I've tried walking, laying down, heating pads and the list goes on. I was able to pass gas once yesterday but not since then. Any advice on how to help get rid of this rumbling tummy?

I am finally advanced to the purée stage and none too soon! I was getting so tired of liquids. It's not that I'm hungry, but just that I was bored with the small rotation of full liquids. So far by recommendations I have tried blenderized Wendy's chili, just 2oz and Taco Bell pintos & cheese. When these were first recommended to me I was a little shocked, but having looked up nutrition values, they aren't too bad. Not only that, but they taste AMAZING! This is what my taste buds have been missing!! So far I am doing well with no bad reactions from the step up. I'm really hoping that having some real food Eli's my energy levels too.

If anyone read any of my other post, you know that I've have been having severe stomach pains and nausea and vomiting (dry heaving, actually, because there is nothing in my stomach), since my RNY on August 24. The first week after surgery was great, when I was on just Clear liquids but, when I started with purees - forget it it- I was in so much agony. I've been in the er 5 times in the past 2 weeks. ct scan looks great, they say. But one ultrasound showed some sludge in my gallbladder. They did a second ultra sound on Thursday and said there was quite a bit of sludge and some stones. So, Monday morning I will have my gallbladder removed. I'm kind of scared. Now that I am…

Hi everybody, I am 35 years old and I have my band to bypass surgery scheduled for September 5th. I had the Lapband surgery done in 8/2009 and had decent luck with it until the band stopped holding the fills. So I am excited but very nervous for my upcoming surgery. I am on day 3 of 14 liquid diet. Any suggestions on helping get through the next two weeks? Also any help with getting over this nervous feeling? Thank you everybody

Well, my one year surgiversary was yesterday... and it passed with no one saying anything. Granted not a lot of people know, but my partner... daughter... mother etc... not a word. I've lost over 150 lbs in this last year... and nothing. Hurt my feelings... and I can't say it to anyone, so saying it here... *sigh* makes me sad...

I'm 10 days post op and I have had nothing but regret this whole time. I was in so much pain after the surgery and I'm still hurting now. I can't sleep and am tired all the time. I have lost 14 pounds and I'm happy about that. But my mindset right now is just regret so much so that I keep looking up reversals!!!! It's craziness! My husband is super supportive and helps me feel better but everyday the same feeling keeps creeping back in. I hope this will pass soon. Another issue I'm going through is mourning food. I know this for my health and I keep telling myself that. I'm afraid I'll never be able to enjoy any of my favorite foods again. I don't want to go hog wild on t…

My surgery is this Friday, Sept. 11. I've been having this sort of waking dream, and I thought I'd share it with you all. I'm at a waterpark, and standing at the top of a huge waterslide. I've been climbing the stairs up to this slide for a long time, and there are just a few people in front of me. Then it'll be my turn. There's a slight breeze against my cheek, and as I look around I can see for miles around, a beautiful view. I feel kinda dizzy, and a bit scared, and a lot excited. I wonder what the ride will be like. I see a huge group of people at the bottom of the slide, all with smiles and jumping up and down. I can hear them, they are cheering me on,…

Hey wonderful people! I just got back from the doctor's office, where I have been getting weighed since surgery almost exactly three weeks ago so I could have an accurate reading. I've lost 15 pounds since the day of surgery, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't kind of sad and frustrated. I know that this is a perfectly normal amount to have lost in three weeks, and that it's ridiculous to worry or be bothered that it isn't more. However, that doesn't really make me feel better about it. Sigh. Anyway, the main question I have for you guys is about calories. I've read that my focus is Protein, Water, and taking my Vitamins and supplements. But I'm wondering if I'm get…

I am scheduled to have surgery on Oct 7. Still waiting to hear from my insurance. I'm getting nervous because I didn't have to join a local support group or anything. So, I turned to social media to try to make some friends who have experience with wls. I've seen people that appear to have found amazing connections on social media and I feel like I'm hashtagging everything but getting response. Anyone else struggling to find connects out there? I have made my final decision to have the sleeve surgery. I am anxious but really hopeful and praying that this will be the final thing that actually works after a lifetime of trying to lose weight! I'm hoping to have the surgery in November. I might have left it a little late. However I was just wondering what you all had to do in preparation for the surgery? What did your surgeons require that you do before you could have the surgery? I know that I probably have to have a nutrition evaluation and training session, psych evaluation, medical testing, information sessions. What else? How long did everything take you. If I get started now do you think I can get everything…

I'm still on my clear liquids post-op until I see the surgeon for my follow up on Tuesday. For dinner tonight I had vegetable broth and added some old bay. Being born in MD, old bay is good on a lot of stuff! It was so good, and satisfying, like having crab soup...well without the crab, or vegetables, or anything else. But it was definitely better than plain old broth!

I have my last nut apt Wed and then my stuff will be submitted to insurance. My bmi was 40.1 so they told me not to loose any weight. I weighed myself this morning and I am 3 lbs heavier. Should I reschedule my apt until I drop those pounds? I dont want to be denyed. The surgery cord did not say not to gain, just not to loose but I have read here that some people have been denyed for a gain.

I am just curious.... Is there anyone in this forum in which the RNY surgery didn't work for them. Meaning not much weight or any weight was lost. I am entering my third on Tuesday and I hit a stall on week two. I haven't lost any weight for a week now even though I have amped my activity levels. Walking more and being more active . Met with nutritionist this past week over concerns of not losing and she told me it was normal. However I am still worried that this might not work because I have been keeping up with protein and water intake as instructed and have been doing moderate exercise and not one pound has been lost. So far I have only lost 17 pounds in three weeks.

I just learned that Medicare will pay for a tummy tuck and a boob job. I had no idea. There is a really good plastic surgeon who said he'd give me a good deal on doing my face if he did the tummy and the boobs. I am very happy. really just letting you know.
