I am 12 weeks post-op (rny). I am brand new to this forum and just wondering if there are any other peeps out there who may have had surgery around the time I did? Just wondering what your experience has been to this point. Of course I have questions, but don't want to bore anyone, lol. For the record, I am down 51 lbs overall, 40 of those post-op. Thus far everything has gone fairly smoothly, though I constantly worry if I will or maybe already have, stretched my pouch...

Currently waiting for gastric bypass procedure , I have an appointment in September which will involve me having a comprehensive medical inc seeing the Anethetist , weigh myself meet the nurse , surgeon , blood tests and psychiatric evaluation . Does any one know roughly the time between going to this evaluation and the operation itself as still have not received a surgery date yet and thought there might be a time frame that can't be exceeded between the evaluation and actual surgery inc pre op diet . As circumstances and body may change ... A less complicated way of explaining what I mean is that all the results from the evaluation made on me could become invalid or w…

We're submitting to insurance either today or tomorrow! The coordinator thought we'd have a better chance of approval if it was submitted as an original surgery (different insurance company than my first band and rebanding) than as a revision, so I had to jump through a few hoops (slightly fast-tracked). Hopefully, will hear back relatively quickly!

I had gastric bypass on July 13th so I am 2 weeks post surgery. Recovery is going well. Strictly following surgeons orders. Have had some emotional times but guess that's normal. Have had great support from friends but some strange interactions with family members. My 4 year old niece has a bday this week. I have spent each bday with her. Tonight my sister ( her mom) told me that she is worried that her bday activity would be too much walking for me and that they were planning on going to lunch and they wouldn't want me to feel uncomfortable. Feel totally excluded and sad..... Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am 3 weeks post op and have been @ a stall for 2 weeks. I know stalls happen and I am trying to stay positive but i am finding it hard to. I mean why did I even go through this whole ordeal if I am not seeing a decrease in weight or measurements. I am following my plans and have not cheated. I don't know what else to do. Uugghhhhh. I need help.

I am having so many different emotions lately. In a week I meet with my dietician the in September I'll take my last class which is surgery prep, hospital time & post op. After that class I will schedule with the surgeon. If he gives the all clear then everything will be sent to my insurance then we wait if approved schedule surgery. All of that has been going through my head. I've done the omg omg os this real...I look at non plus size & I wanna be excited but instead I wanna cry. Is anyone else a ball of emotions?

hello! I weigh 220 right now and had my band removed 12 months ago. I want the sleeve but afraid of the acid reflux that I've heard may accompany it. It was awful with the band. However, I did lose 45 lbs but have regained 15 lbs back. was anyone else a light weight for RNY?

It’s for members who have had Gastric Bypass Surgery and have seen results already. Being a part of the campaign is easy. Just post a short video of yourself telling your Gastric Bypass Surgery story and post it on This Time It Counts (the instructions are on the page). I'm getting ready to have my surgery in the fall and have done extensive research (for more than 4 years now). I came across a book that I feel has been the best pre/post surgery book. For us food addicts/bing eaters, and those of us who think this surgery will be our 'magic pill' this has truly helped me make the best decision....'Practical Advice for Life Maintence after Bariatric Surgery" by Pamela Harrelson. Her story and journey is a reality check and has truly helped me. It's only available in eReader print and it's only 5.99$. She also has a forum on this site as well. I highly suggest this read...super easy read, great ideas, and puts the future into perspective!!

Today is my one year anniversary of my GB, I'm down 152lbs (33 male 6"1') although everyone congratulates me on my great "accomplishments", I don't feel very happy or different and this is disappointing because, I thought weight was holding me back in life, yes, it may have partly been that but it's become inherently clear that I have much work to do.

Well, I am now 2 days post op. When I awoke after surgery, I was in a lot more pain and discomfort than I had expected. I definitely had "buyer's remorse". But today is a much better day. I haven't had trouble getting food or water down, although of course I get full easily! I took a shower and have been walking around. Still have tummy tenderness but it is manageable.

I'm due to have my surgery in August 5th 2015. And oddly enough I am worried about having port issues. I have heard stories about people port sticking out, or it being painful when touched. Has anyone experienced any of issues. I'm getting my surgery through True Results with Dr Marsden. I've heard he's really great. If there's any of his patients or patients ot True Results that can give me their experiences I would love to hear from you.

I'm almost 4 months post op. I've been following the diet, I'm excercising, I feel great. So my hair has started falling and I expected it. However, I guess I didn't think my other hair on my body would fall too. Is it just me, should I be worried?! This is so strange as I don't have much body hair to begin with. Anyone else?!

Starting my second journey with weight loss surgery. Had a lap band done several years ago which was not successful. My brother, two good friends and my daughter have all had gastric bypass and have been successful, so I decided that I needed to do something about my own weight so that I can do things with my grandkids (such as ride roller coasters!) before they're too old to want to do things with their grandma - plus be around for future major events in their lives. I've seen the doctor and the dietician, and will see the director of the bariatric program this week. If we can get it approved, I have a two week window to schedule the surgery for in October...otherwi…

July 30th was my 1 yr anniversary for my gastric bypass surgery. For the last two days I'm having really bad chest pains under my breast bone and through my back to my should. It's not gas. I went to the dr today he thinks it's my barrettes esophagus he wants me to see my GI dr on Monday. He also put me on clear liquids till then. The pain kept me up all night last night I'm afraid the same will happen tonight too. It's a consistent pain that sometimes gets intense. Today they did echocardiogram, chest X-ray and blood work. So my heart was good. Has anyone ever experienced this?

A recent study appears to show that "sleep-disordered breathing" accelerates the onset of "mild cognitive impairment" by at least 11 years. http://acsh.org/2015/04/study-shows-that-snorers-vulnerable-to-earlier-cognitive-decline-why/ Before Bariatric surgery, my wife said I snored so much that it would keep her awake all night long. This condition went on for years. But within a few weeks after my RNY the snoring stopped. Sometimes I would wake up in the middle of the night and find my wife standing over me. I was sleeping so quietly that she was trying to figure out if I was still alive. It is good to know that the loss of this condition (snoring) has a ripple e…

My dad who doesn't know anything about gastric bypass puts in his two cents from time to time. I'm pre op but telling my husband that I need to try some Isopure or GenePro powder. Dad was saying that protein powder can affect the kidneys. Is there a problem with using them? Like I said I'm pre op but practicing getting in my 64 ounces of water in and my kidneys seem to work, I pee all the time. Don't want to mess them up with protein. I drink protein shakes now and don't have a problem with them. I'd like to get some flavorless protein to put in my water. After surgery I want to hit the gym and build muscle, that means more protein than just 60-80 g per day.

OK just had my first food dream - at least that I woke up and remembered. It was potato chips! All kinds of chips! Not just the really good salty kind but there were really spicy ones and even chocolate covered ones! And they tasted oh so good! ???? And my first thought (in my dream) was "oh no! Now I know I can still eat potato chips and them go down easily, I may slide back into that habit!". Haha! Good to know the habit changing thoughts of surgery has creeped in to my subconscious!

I have a question.....Sometimes I can not eat what I have already eaten I don't know why but earlier today I was hungry and warmed up some soup and then could only eat a few bites and ended up throwing it up, yesterday I was able to have the whole bowl, I know I didn't eat it too fast and not much chewing was involved because it was mostly broth. Some days I just can't eat what I did the week before IS THIS JUST ME.....

Ok, so I weigh every morning. I have a routine. I shower, do my make up and blow dry my hair. Then I immediately get on the scale. Well this morning was like every other. I get on the scale and look down. The loudest scream I have ever screamed in my life flew out of my mouth. I am weighing 239 lbs. everyone came running my son with a broom because he thought the way I screamed there was a rodent in the house! I am officially down 85 lbs. oh wow!! I so psyched up. It's been 14 years since I weighed so little!!

There are some very nice people in a private fb group, we all have or are having surgery in July so we all support each other. It's a small group but always welcoming others that are having surgery in July 2015. Just message me your FB email and I will invite you. This is a private group on FB so no one your friends with will even know your in it or see posts no matter how your privacy setting are set. There are other groups for other months as well and I can refer you to the person who can add you to any group, but I can add to July.

Tomorrow I will be 2 wks post op and I still am having a lot of pain on the lower left side. This morning after riding bikes with my kids to school when I got back home I was in tears from the pain. The bike ride was 2 miles round trip and I had my 1 year old and 5 year old in a bicycle trailer that my bike pulls. Am I just pushing myself to far and causing the pain myself?

The latest research shows obesity beginning to decline in the U.S including children. The greatest change seems to have been a decrease in soda and sugar-sweetened beverage consumption by children — down by 79 daily calories between 2004 and 2012. Unfortunately, calories from Desserts went up by 20 in that period, while those from fruits and vegetables increased by only 16. Overall, their daily intake dropped by about 185 calories. http://acsh.org/2015/07/data-suggest-were-seeing-a-real-decrease-in-americans-calorie-consumption/

Has anyone found they needed to change jobs after WLS? I am 2.5 weeks post-op and returned to work Friday. I am asst manager at a convenient store which also has pizza and subs. I feel I'm going to have a hard time staying away from the food once I am back to full diet. The smells the past 2 days has been difficult. I'm thinking if I'm going to be successful in this journey I need less temptation. I love my job and the people I work with. But this journey is more important.

So I'm always cold since surgery. That I am dealing with by buying every hoodie and sweater I can find. The other thing I noticed is little things like bumping my toe or scratching myself is painful. I'm not talking a minute or so, it can be a whole day. I burned myself putting something in the oven one day and it hurt for 3 days. It didn't even leave a mark that is how minor it was. I'm worried it's more but I don't even know how to approach this or with who. I know the rheumatology dr that I was referred to for having inflammatory markers blew it off as nothing, but I keep worrying there is more. Anyone else experiencing this?

I'm just over 3 months post-op (RNY). Had one NASTY gout attack a few weeks after surgery, and I understand this is not uncommon. I get in approximately 80 oz of water a day. This morning I woke up and the right side of my foot has a flare up. Since we cannot take any NSAIDs, are there any OTC medications recommended for this? Don't want to have to go on a prescription if I don't have to, since this is not a common occurrence for me.

When I originally got the denial from an insurance representative on July 14th, at around 4:00 p.m. CST time, I was advised to contact my bariatric office for more details on how to appeal. I had called my bariatric insurance coordinator, Lisa, at around 4:45pm whom have reviewed the information with her supervisor who then advised me based on the denial I have to go through once a week meetings for 3 months with a licensed psychotherapist, psychiatrist, or psychologist. That was it. That was the end of the conversation. I slept on it, and came back with questions on the morning of Wednesday, July 15th. I called the next day and asked the following questions. If I can h…

I'm 10 days out, still in the full liquids stage, but I can drink a 32 ounce Powerade in about 20 minutes. I can knock down a 10 ounce Greek yogurt in 5 minutes, with no trouble at all. All this talk on these forums about people struggling to even drink a protein shake, and I could almost chug mine. I'm a little worried, that the surgeon made my pouch too big? Or should I just shut up and be happy about it? I'm not having problems with hunger and I am content on the 5 to 700 calories I'm eating a day. I'm averaging 80 to 90 grams of protein a day.

I'm looking for tips on how you all get in Protein - particularly how you get to a goal of 70-80g a day. I am supposed to eat 3 meals a day, no snacking. I'm in soft foods now but eventually those three meals should be solid, dense food. I also am supposed to aim for 1 Protein shake a day. I can't see how, with the small amount I can eat at meals, that I can get 80 grams in... Unless I *just* eat protein rich foods and nothing else, which doesn't sound that appealing. Before surgery, I barely ate meat. Now, I feel like that has to be 95% of my diet!
