  1. Started by Daisee68,

So dr decided I need to get CT scan to check for internal hernia and / or gallbladder issues following a severe pain incident last week. I just made the appt and i have to drink 32 oz of "dye" before the scan. They usually ask you to come an hour early but said to come 1 1/2 hours early. I am assured the liquid is quite thin (not like the barium junk I had to do pre-op). Anyone have any experience with this and can soothe my fears of getting this in? I am 8 weeks post-op today and when I am intentionally trying, I can get 16 oz of water down in an hour. Just not sure I can do 32 oz....

Well i made it. My surgery was on Jan 28th. Beginning weight before all this was 512 lbs. Day of surgery my weight was 486lbs. Surgery took about an hr and a half. Waking up after surgery was painful. I felt this pressure under my breastbone, very uncomfortable. That night i felt nauseous and started spitting up blood. I was like that until early next morning. I finally felt like i let it all out and that uncomfortable pressure was gone for the most part. The nurse contacted my Dr but he said it was normal. I hsdn't heard any body mention that in any of the topics. I was kinda freakin out. The next day i felt better. Still in a bit of pain and couldn't drink very much but…

Well.....I have become lactose intolerant. I tried to deny it but I can't anymore. So...I need suggestions for non dairy protein. I used cheeses and cottage cheese for a lot of my protein aside from meat. Now I feel lost. Milk is in most everything. Thank you.

What did your protein, carbs, fats, and calories look like around this time? Mine: 650-800 cal 70-90 protein 50 or less carbs and 40 or less fat grams. I have been stalled for over a week and very frustrated!! 33 down.

  12. It has been a long 6 months. I have had many issues that required additional surgery including having my gallbladder removed. I continue to have stomach pain and discomfort after I eat. I am battling constant dehydration due to constant diarrhea. I have been hospitalized once to get IV fluids. Now I am told that I might be creating too much bile now that my gallbladder (and it's ability to regulate it) is gone. Not sure how to correct this issue. I have also stalled for 2 months. I am looking for a dietician that specializes in bariatrics and those who have had a RNY. What I have received from my hospital team is basically copied papers. I want a real shopping list …

Hello! I have 3 weeks to go and then I will finish my 3 mo required nutritional counseling. My dr said I will likely have my surgery the end if Sept or first part of Oct. At first my husband was all for it and excited as I was. The past few days he has been telling me that he doesn't want me to have the surgery. He said today that I should just stick with the diet and exercise and I will loose weight that way. I reminded him that I have lost weight but it always comes back plus some. He said he is just nervous about such a drastic surgery. Any ideas to help put his mind at ease? I am excited and ready to go for it!

Hello! My name is Abby, and I'm 23. My surgery date is August 17th... only a week away now. o.o I'm so glad I found this forum, because most people I've talked to are much older than me and are in a completely different stage in their lives, so it's hard to relate to each other outside of the surgery. But I would love to make new friends with you guys here, as I don't know many people who have had this surgery or plan to have it and are also my age. Are any of you still in college? What does your family think of your decision? Your friends? How many people have you told about your surgery plans, and have they reacted well or badly? I look forward to meeting all of you …

  16. I knew I would have some hair loss but I was not prepared for how much I have very long hair and it used to be very thick now just long, I was wondering if I cut it will it grow back as long as it is now, my Dr. says the thickness will come back but maybe not as much as before but I am wondering about the length I have always had long hair......I cut it short once but did not like it and it took what seemed forever to grow back so now I am afraid that it won't grow back at all,any advice will help thank you all very much I have learned so much in the few weeks that I have joined this support group.

A recent study compares the effectiveness of two types of bariatric surgery — laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding vs laparoscopic gastric bypass. The investigators concluded that the bypass surgery, although having a greater risk of short-term complications and long-term hospitalizations, also resulted in much greater weight loss as well as a lower risk of subsequent interventions. http://acsh.org/2014/11/study-compares-effectiveness-two-types-bariatric-surgery/

  18. My band-to-bypass surgery is on Monday, August 24th. I've been working on getting my clearances done. I've gotten my labs done, my cardiology clearance, and had my initial appointment with my PCP. Today, all that was left was my pulmonology clearance appointment this morning, and then meet with the PCP again tomorrow to get everything together and have him do the official medical clearance. And guess what? The pulmonologist decided she wants me to do a sleep study, even though I have zero symptoms of sleep apnea and she even said that she didn't think I had it. And of course, the place that does the sleep studies couldn't get me an appointment until the 20th. THE 2…

  19. I dislike so many of the Protein choices (like eggs, Peanut Butter, etc) and couldn't wait until I could incorporate things I love, like chicken, turkey, tuna, but since having the surgery I don't like the texture of certain foods. At all. I force myself to eat them because protein intake really does contribute to weight loss...but discouraged by the fact the little I did like, just doesn't do it for me anymore. Has anyone else ever had this experience? if so, what did you do to combat it?

  20. I had this surgery, not only to lose weight, but to combat diabetes (supposedly type II). I've lost a total of 45 pounds (I had the surgery 3/23/15). Initially I had minor improvement with my A1C and was feeling hopeful that I'd be off of meds within the next couple of months. My endicrinologist (sp),dropped the bomb on me and told me I "may" have other underlying issues and I am back to 5 shots per day. Low doses, but still back where I started. Trying not to let it get me down. But it's hard not to feel some kind of way about it. Anyone else have these kind of issues?

I have been weighing option for surgery for a long time now. I'm one to do a LOT of research before making any decisions although I knew I would do a bypass surgery of some sort. Did anyone else weight heavily on the sleeve vs RNY before making a final decision? I have surgery this fall and I have to make a final decision by the end of Aug. It's so hard to wait!! Spent the last two years in treatment for food addiction, had my required three month supervised diet in addition to that and was all set mentally for an August 20 surgery! Unfortunately, my hematologist keeps wanting to run tests ( 6 weeks of testing now), and we won't know the results in time for me to do a two week prep for surgery. ???? Then my sister and my father are both heading out of town. Both have asked me not to have surgery until they are back. Dad won't be back until September 12!! I know it's only an additional month but it seems like forever. I had wanted a good three months of my new life before the pressures of the holidays.

Unfortunately, I feel very alone in this journey with no one to talk to. I'm the type of person who loves to talk through things but don't have close friends. My mother thinks it's a big mistake and that I should be able to lose the 100+ lbs "on my own" (as if I hadn't been trying and failing at that for the last ten years!) and my husband all but said he thinks I won't be successful after surgery. 34. I am worried because my dietician told me to drink liquids 2 weeks prior to surgery. Well, my gastric sleeve is scheduled for Tuesday and I slipped a little bit and ate solid foods due to extreme craving during that time of the month. I apologize if this is too much info but I am really worried. Should I ask my surgeon to reschedule?

I finally got approved today for my band-to-RNY revision, with a peer-to-peer appeal after a few denials. Now I get to wait to see what my surgery date is! The coordinator didn't want to give me a set date yet (waiting on medical clearances and such), but I'm going to see if I can talk them into giving me one, since I've got to buy a ticket for my mom to come and stay with me and I have to request leave from work.

I've been married to my husband for almost 19 years. All those years my weight has climbed. He is someone who can eat everything at any time of the day and not have any issues. In the beginning of this process he was adamantly against this. He went so far as to tell me if I went through with this he would divorce me. Since then he kind of came around and was trying to be supportive. I have 2 more months pre-op and he told me today he thinks it's ridiculous and the lazy way out. If I could lost 50 pounds in 4 months why can't I just lose it that way and not risk my life and be lazy and take the easy way out. He doesn't understand what a day in my 400+ lb life.…

Throughout my life when profound events happen, my eyes seem to become recalibrated. When my wife became pregnant, whenever we went shopping, we would see every pregnant lady in the store. When we had a newborn baby, our sights locked onto every baby we came across. They just stood out among the crowd. Now that I have lost a lot of weight, my wife and I automatically notice every overweight person that crosses our path. Does anyone else notice this? It sort of brings home the point that there is an obesity epidemic in our society.

Inbal Golomb and colleagues from Bellinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, Israel. examined data from 443 patients who underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) between 2006 and 2013; the surgery on all the patients was performed by the same team of surgeons. Compared to initial levels, the researchers found that one year after surgery, patients had complete remission of type 2 diabetes (51 percent), hypertension (46 percent), hypercholesterolemia (40 percent), and hypertriglyceridemia (72 percent). However, by 5 years following surgery, these remission rates were 20, 46, 26, and 72 percent respectively. Many of the patients with type 2 diabetes (65 percent at one year and…

I am 22 days post op. Getting ready to go to work next week. I'm incorporating more puréed foods every day. I am craving pizza - any suggestions? I've been doing really well as far as keeping everything down and following guidelines. My only problem is I don't want ANYTHING. Not water, not protein shakes, not food. So I'm forcing myself to drink & eat. They want me to focus on the puréed foods and limit my protein shakes to 1 per day. I think I can do that. My pain question is that I was doing pretty well with my pain for about 10 days. Now all of a sudden, I am experiencing BAD pain in my right side, where my drain was, and where my skin is pulled tighter…
