Hello! I thought I would introduce myself to the group. My name is Hanna and I'm 23. I am at the beginning stage of surgery. Just mailed in my paperwork. I live in st charles mo. I have blue cross blue shield of Illinois so If anyone has any tips for them I'm all ears. I've tried this process before in the diet stage and always got sidetracked. But this year I am motivated to get the surgery and be healthy. Looking for friends to chat with who understand the struggle of this process. Thank you for listening! Can't wait to make some friends

Over a month ago I had severe pain. My surgeon's nurse gave me an appointment for a month later. My regular doc sent me to the ER for a CT in case it was divemetriculousis (sp) or the appendix. Then he sent to for an ultra sound. Everything was negative. He put me on an antibiotic that didn't do anything. Three days later my wound started to seep. Again I called my surgeon but his nurse said since I was coming up on my 2 mo. visit she didn't give me an appointment. My regular doc took a culture swab. My surgeon is 500 miles round trip; I went for the 2 mo. checkup but didn't see the surgeon. I saw the gastroentronogitst (sp), and team coordinator, The gastro wasn…

Hi! I had gastric bypass on May 26--so three weeks out now. I am really surprised how much pain I am still in. I had two surgeries previously--one on my knee even!--and I don't remember true pain for so long. And I'm not TOO big a baby--I tried to walk myself to the recovery suite after my last baby only a year ago! (Man did I get in trouble with the nurses!) I'm beginning to worry that I'm not just an outlier but that something is wrong. Anyone else feel very badly this far out?

Hey everyone, I could really use some prayers. I'm 15 days post op and yesterday I was directly admitted to the hospital by my surgeon. I hadn't been able to drink anything except 20 oz of fluid in four days. It was determined I have pancreatitis and I narrowing/ thickening of tissue where my pouch and small intestine meet. This isn't good because at 2 weeks out they can't fix it. I am on IV fluids until Saturday and then will be getting a picc line and will get fluids and tpn at home until I'm 4-6 weeks out and this can be fixed. Has anyone had a picc? What can I expect. 12. So I am 10 weeks out and just after I eat I am doubled over in pain. In addition I also get pain on my right side. This is progressively gotten worse. I then developed both right side and left side flank pain which was traveling to my pelvic area. My pain got so bad I headed to the ER for some relief. My surgeon was consulted and the thought might be gallbladder related. After a cat scan with contrast, it was inconclusive. Two other thoughts were kidney stones (negative) and/or having a separate ulcer. I left about in the same was as I arrived. They put me on a Rx that may help, if I have an ulcer. Now I am going to have a "hide a scan" ???). Does anyone have / had …

Hi everyone! ???? I'm new here and I'm really enjoying reading the posts. They are very helpful. I had the band in June of 2005. I lost 106 pounds and was doing great for years until 2010 when my band slipped. I had the band replaced and it slipped again so I had it removed. Anyways I've just had gastric bypass surgery on 5/5/15. I'm 6 weeks out and I've lost 36 pounds since pre op diet started on 4/24. I had a weight stall a few weeks back for 12 days then I lost a few pounds and now I'm at a stall again for the past 5 days. Also I don't feel full. Is anyone else dealing with the same thing in the beginning of their journey? Help please!

Are we aloud to use Gas-X chewables while we're in the hospital or will it clash with the Doc ordered meds and/or mess with the natural release of the gas? Also, to the women, I know no make up or jewelry, but can I polish my toenails? Fingers?

Was banded in May of 2011, I lost a total of 10LBS yep that was it, never been happy with it. Visited my Doctor recently who suggested that I go for the Gastric Bypass and have the band removed. After speaking with him I decided to do some research and I found his site and I really like it, real people going through the same things as me. I really enjoy reading what everyone has to say and it has helped me make my decision to go for the Gastric Bypass. I'm at the beginning stages of approval, but thankfully my insurance doesn't really require much for me to have the revision. Agggh! So, today I will complete my last pre-surgical insurance requirement. Prayerfully I will be approved. But now comes all the self doubt in: "Am I making the right decision".... "I wont be able to eat many things".... "Will I have the self control to stick to my nutritional guidelines to be successful".... "Will this procedure really be effective"... "This is an addiction, an addiction to food, can and will I be able to do this"... "or am I trying to talk myself out of it"... Your feedback, insight and experience's are appreciated.

For the past couple of weeks I've been getting hunger headaches like my body is back to normal. I'm starving. I ate a hard boiled egg this morning and was able to eat a whole one, then I just ate 2 hotdogs, no bun. Just cut them into small pieces with mustard and ate every bit. I'm scared to call my surgeon because he may think that I purposely over eat and I really don't. If I go to long between meals I get a minor headache and I feel physically hungry. I remember feeling like this before surgery. I'm 6 weeks post op by the way. Surgery date was 4/8/15.

The workouts are a combination of weight lifting and or cardio. I am maintaining my weight but not losing. I eat 1375 cals a day only cause it was recommended to increase my food intake from 1200 cals cause I may be in starvation mode I was nervous about increasing my cals cause I fear gaining weight but I'm desperate to reach my goal weight of 150lbs.

While I am not having to use my insulin now and I am happy about that, I am super disappointed that I am not losing this soon out. My clothes fit the same also. I'm feeling that I may have made a mistake. Any other stories or thoughts like this?

I have not told any of these people about my RNY and do not plan to (I am also leaving this job in a few weeks). I don't know how to handle this. I had my initial nutrition consultation with my surgeon's nurse and coordinator today, and she thinks that my insurance SHOULD approve me for a revision/conversion from lap-band to RNY with only a letter of medical necessity from my PCP, a psych eval, and the nutrition consult, instead of having to jump through all the hoops again for approval. Now whether the insurance will agree with her, we'll just have to wait and see, lol. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. If everything gets approved, hopefully I'll be having surgery around the beginning of June. If not, it could be several more months, since I'd have to do 90 days of dietitia…

That's right... A healthy market with serve yourself foods that you pay for by weight. Put a table spoon of two high protein foods and a teaspoon of chick peas ( plenty for us right) In the past lunch was at least $7 at this high end market but I put it up on the scale to pay and the cashier said "1.68... Is that enough lunch for you dear?" I knew it was plenty and loved my new found weighing food advantage! We " losers" make out like bandits with this type of market! I encourage you all to find one of these near you if you have to eat out sometimes for lunch at work - fun, healthy and economical????

This past weekend my niece came to visit. We haven't seen each other in 18 months and she's never been to the great state of Colorado. I chose to go out to eat. We shared most meals. I had my first bites of white bread, the size of which what would equate to one of my past single bites. Over four days I had spinach artichoke dip, a tator tot, one and a half steak fries, …
