I'm young (19) and going through the surgical weight loss program in Bangor at EMMC. (I have one last dietician appointment, a sleep study & then I'm meeting the surgeon!) I'm just looking for someone/multiple someones to relate to. I have no support system, my family doesn't understand how hard of a process this all is.

  3. On another forum I posted that I was banded in 2007. For me, it was a nightmare.....either too tight or too loose and my doc couldn't get a handle on it. It was taken out, port and all, in October 2014 after months of being awakened in the middle of the night with vomit forcefully coming out of my nose...... Since then, believe it or not I have gained back almost 60 pounds! I have new insurance which is Blue Shield of California. After a consult with my surgeon on a Monday a few weeks ago, I decided to revise to RNY. I asked her about the sleeve and she said she will not revise to a sleeve, ever, due to scar tissue as she believes there is a greater chance for leakage. …

  4. Hi. I'm Deb from N. Carolina. I started this whole process back in August after a visit to my regular doctor. After way too many years of yo-yo dieting and never getting the job done, it's all caught up to me. Now I'm heavier than I've ever been, my BP is on the rise and so is my cholesterol. My arthritis is terrible in my knees and ankles. I retired a couple years ago and I hate it because I can't do any of the things my husband and I talked about doing at this time in our lives. It's time to move forward..... My surgery is scheduled for Nov.11th. I'm excited and scared at the same time. I'm hoping that others that are getting ready to have their surgery in No…

It feels like I should be dropping lbs faster. Have I messed up my surgery somehow? I know everyone is different, but I am really depressed that it isn't coming off quicker.

After a trip to the ER on March 29th and being diagnosed with a severe bladder infection (a lot of blood in the urine and low abdominal pain), I've spent the last two and a half weeks wondering why, after a week of antibiotics, I was still in pain. It turns out, I never had a bladder infection. I have a very large kidney stone trying to pass with another one still in the kidney. The Urologist seems to think that this is all being caused by my Gastric Bypass.(I'm 18 weeks out) I did some research and it as it seems there are some studies out that back this up. Has any one else been having problems with kidney stones? Or am I just the lucky one?

Literally, numerous times today I have actually gotten anxiety that perhaps I made the wrong decision... Knowing fully I cannot go back! If anyone else is or has had these feelings, I would appreciate your insight as to if you agree, don't agree and what led you to understand why you calmed yourself out of this emotional moment. I know the medical reasons why I chose GB... Just feeling a little sad. Much appreciated ????

Pain around my port removal site is very severe and shoots through my back. I am alternating liquid Tylenol 3 and liquid hydrocodone with Tylenol. I am running out of meds already. I am using a pillow to abdomen, walking around the house, gas x, alternate sitting up and lying down, tolerating liquids okay (except moms broth of homemade soup which was too fatty.) Can …

I had my RNY on March 16, even though I am on solid foods I do enjoy an Atkins EAS Protein Shake daily as a protein booster (chocolate yum). Anyway, I will be traveling to Venice/Greece in May and am wondering if I should pack a 2 weeks worth of shakes ( a lot of weight in suitcase ) or try to find a place in Venice that sells them. I can't imagine being able to find them there. Any suggestions, or has anyone seen them in Italy/ Greece stores.

Hi Everybody - I am almost three months and 80 pounds out and have an unusual question. I feel like I have lost my taste for food. I am sampling a lot of the food I used to love and they all taste blah. I eat my Protein but do not really enjoy it. Last night we celebrated St Pat's day and had one bite of the corned beef - where as before I would have eaten the whole thing. Has anybody else experianced this?

Hi, I had RNY on 1/29/15. To date I've lost 33 lbs. My SW was 390. I was told that I could have 45g of Protein because anything higher and I wouldn't lose any weight. I was also told not to count my carbs and calories just yet. I should be losing 3-5 lbs a week according to my NUT. I'm not doing that. I did the first 5 weeks. Should I be limiting my carbs and counting calories? Will this help to lose? I walk at least a mile a day.

I am seeking a mentor (can be local - I live in Cleveland, but doesn't have to be). A bit about me: I am 29, married with no kids, and work as a social worker. I enjoy a variety of sports, music, tv shows, etc. and cannot wait to begin a new active lifestyle! I am also active in church and with my sorority's alumnae group and am in school working on a Master's in Public Health. I am recovered from binge eating disorder and continue to receive support for it. PS Sorry this was written like a personals ad...LOL.

Despite the 4.5 bags of fluid I have had since Friday I am still dehydrated because I cannot eat or drink anything. I have not ate in 2 days. I can't even do clear liquids. Water even makes me sick. Going in for a scope in the morning. Hope I get some more rest at some point tonight. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hello everyone my name is Kiasha I am 25, happily married for 3 years, and planning to have an RNY done as soon as possible. Its a decision I have thought long and hard about for 3 years. I tried losing weight on my own and it just isn't working. I have PCOS, Papilledema, and Pseudotumor cerebri all which I have been repeatedly told would get better with weight loss. I am ready to make a permanent change in my life. I am hoping the surgery will make it possible for me to have a baby and most of all just be healthy. I look forward to getting to know everyone and providing/receiving as much support as possible.

I just wanted to hear from others who have lost over 100 pounds. I wanted advice about how to get a better handle on your hair falling out and what exercises you recommend to help minimize loose skin. What age are you while going thru this and what did you do or notice that you feel others should know? I am 31 years old and I want to lose 120 pounds. What would be your biggest must do to someone who fears all those things but know that the end result is better than the small stuff?

I had the RNY in 2004 and lost 157 pounds. After a baby and ten years I had gained back 80 pounds. Thus past year I have been in and out of the hospital with internal bleeding and serious intestinal and stomach issues. Ulcers up and down and peptic disease that was not going away with medicine. A new surgeon (not my original) decided I needed emergency surgery after I collapsed in February from internal bleeding once again. He took out a foot and a half of my small intestines and 80% of my stomach. Unlike my original RNY he completely removed the infected intestine and stomach from my body. While I didn't have the surgery to loose weight again obviously it is to be expect…
