I had my surgery Mar. 18th. It was an open revision from an old horizontal stomach stapling to RNY. I feel really great today. I had a couple of days of depression, but I wasn't getting much sleep and i think that made it feel worse. Once I slept, I felt so good! My incision is a little sore, but other all is well. i'm alternating between nectar Fuzzy Naval (watered down a little), and Protein drinks made the triple x method by Bariatric Foodie. I add a little sugar free pudding mix to the Protein powder and milk, blend it well, add ice, and blend it really well again. I put some in a small cup, and put the rest in the refrigerator, and eat it a little at a time. I bough…

Anyone having this? My doctor has no idea. I'm 3 months post op. I'm having severe cramping sometimes associated with vomiting. It seems to happen everytime I have stool in my colon, about every two-three days. It is always always in the morning and I can't associate with any food I eat. I have irritable bowel syndrome. My biggest fear is this is my life now. I have had my gall bladder checked and it's fine.

Hi Guys, I had RNY bypass conversion from a non-functioning band on the 27th March and so just starting week two of my fluids diet and getting a bit fed up with soups and milkshakes but have learnt that if I let my fluids drop too much I have problems. Have one wound that's not healing too well, but saw the walk-in centre nurse yesterday who cleaned it and gave me new dressings and I'll see the practice nurse tomorrow hopefully. Otherwise doing okay, have been out a few times, get tired quickly but working on building up my daily step count and once I'm below 150kg I can start using my WiiFit again which I'm looking forward to. Have a good group of friends around …

I planned all along for the sleeve surgery. I did not want to re-route my intestines. I fear the malabsorption issues because of increased risk of osteoporosis. Articles indicate Calcium is leeched from your bones even with supplemental calcium. I have early stage (osteopenia) and watched my mom sitting in a nursing home as her spinal disks collapsed from it, and my Aunt started on Fosomax 20 years ago. I also have some arthritis starting and wanted the option of NSAIDS. And after suffering with IBS in my 30s I fear the effect of altering the digestive tract. However I and now diagnosed (after years of GERD) with Barretts esophagus and my surgeon has not answered whe…

This is probably a good question for the lady veterans out there. Call me vain if you must but I am really worried about what losing a lot of weight over a short time will do to my face. You know every big girl has heard it, what a pretty face, well I don't want to suddenly be smaller with a wrinkled or sagging face? Any tips or products that you could suggest would be greatly appreciated . Thanks Ladies!

I am sure this is somewhere else too, but I haven't located it so I thought I would start a new one. I had a counseling appointment today and one of the things we talked about is understanding my reasons for doing this surgery. (I am still pre-op.) Not just the generic reasons - smaller clothes, healthier, etc., but really achievable and measurable reasons. My counselor said I need to solidify these so that that when I want to give in to that head hunger, I have something to combat it with. So here are my top few for now: 1) Functional "cure" of diabetes / off metformin 2) Never over a weight limit again - attic ladder, swim park slides, chairs! 3) Able to to…

I have been diabetic since I was 18 (I'm now 41) and on a pump for over 15 years. I had a lap band put in 7 years ago and when I got pregnant I had them take out the fluid. Now "my baby" is 4! I went to get a fill and my doctor pretty much insisted that I should get an RnY, that it would add years to my life without diabetic complications. What have other people experienced? I'm a little bit worried about my blood sugar dropping after the surgery and not being able to eat to bring my sugar level up again. I'm not sure why that bugs me so much other than it feels horrible when your brain is screaming for sugar and you can't eat fast enough. I'd love to hear from others ho…

Got my date, 6/8/15!!! I'm a teacher so summer works best. I am 28 years young but have had bad diabetes since I was 18. The band worked at first, lost 80lbs from my highest weight...but I hate it now. Gained almost all weight back and didn't help my diabetes like I was promised. Was looking at the sleeve revision but my Dr recommended RNY instead...I am hoping RNY helps. Anyone else diabetic with some encouraging words?

I just went to an oreintation this morning and I am just wondering for those of you who have had RNY what kind of things you can/cannot eat? I am terrified of dumping syndrome, so I think thaty would be a good way to stay on track. But what do you do on a rare lazy night when you don't have any food in the fridge and the family just wants take-out or to order a pizza? How do you handle those kinds of situations? Will I just have to man-up and make myself a chicken breast or something? That's totally do-able, but I'm just curious. I just want to go into this knowing exactly what I can expect for my post-op life.

Hey everyone, I was wondering what does everyone consider the best protein shakes to be? I'm a little over a year out of RnY but I still have problems getting enough protein through food alone so I tend to use protein shakes on days when I'm not close to hitting the 90 grams my doctor recommends. I'm getting really burnt out on the ones that I've been using and would love some advice/ other options.

So today I purchased my first bathing suit in over 20 years. Not because I wanted to but for my son. Wow I just stared at myself and felt really great. I am so much smaller but still wear big clothes all the time and tend to forget I'm not that person anymore. I have a long way to go but am hopeful this summer I can actually wear shorts. These legs haven't seen sun in forever!!! it just gives me so much motivation. I still have soooo much to go but am hopeful I can someday be comfortable in my own skin and see myself correctly.

Good Morning from not so sunny Poole. I am month 2 with Weigh Ahead on my journey for gastric op. Mixed feelings as my weight has gone on due to needing bilateral hip replacement , which they won't do whilst my bottom is this size. I have dieted before and I had to do lots of exercise before to keep it off, since becoming less active it has gone back on. I met a lovely lady in Bournemouth Hosp Tues and I hope your op went well x She recommended this site to me. I am a sugar at night time eater. Not a fried food freak , rarely drink but cake and chocolate are my downfall. Thanks for reading.

Well I'm three weeks from RNY surgery and have hit a stall. Down 18 pounds and the scale sits for a week at the same exact weight no matter what I do. I walked 3 miles yesterday rode the bike 3 miles and did strengthening exercises I am drinking what I'm supposed to, getting in my protein and the scale still doesn't move. I'm so depressed I don't know what to do

I am 29, I had by-pass about a year ago and have since gotten married, and started college again. I also have two daughters, 6 and 8, and work a full time job as a nurse's assistant. Since the holidays my alcohol consumption has increased dramatically and I am worried that I am becoming an alcoholic. I do not want to fail at this weight loss and I have too much going for me to ruin it with an alcohol addiction. Please I need some reassurance and encouragement to get through this difficult time. Thanks!

I am struggling really bad. I had my surgery February 23rd and lost 30 pounds almost immediately. Now it's gotten harder because my body feels normal again and I feel as if I can eat what the rest of my family eats. My family needs to be dieting and exercising but they are not. I'm underage and still live at home with my parents so it's only natural for me to not buy groceries and I'm sorry but I don't know how to cook foods for myself. My parents keep saying they will start a diet so I think things will get better but they never do. And now they won't listen to me when I try to tell them that they are hindering me. I asked my parents to listen to me and they said that wh…

So all I will have left is the wellness assessment at the hospital then I get my surgery date. This has all happened in the last 30 days. I thought I was ready but now I'm wondering if it's to quick. Anyone else have cold feet??

Hey still waiting for a date for surgery , it have been a long process over a year and a 1/2 but am just feeling down about my weight and apart from the numerous medical problems that go with it , it really gets to me the way people judge FAT people I never really brought in to this belief before but it's true not everyone but the majority of 'normal' people out there literally hate us fat people and look down on us. Self confidence is at all time low atm ... Any positive stories or comments ???...???....

Overall this not been bad at all. I had my sleeve March 9th and and down 17 lbs and feeling great. Two nights in the hospital, the worst part of pain was the location where they removed the portion of the stomach. Other sites were barely sore. Came home and only tok pain med one more day. I'm up to a mile 3 days a week on the treadmill. For those posting about what to bring to the hospital, Pillow for the ride home and stretch pants. I took everything everyone suggested and didn't use any of it, including the pjs. It's easier to get up and move as well as go to the bathroom in the hospital gown. Pjs would have hit right where the incisions were. I'm trying to to…

Hi. I need help. My NUT gave me a dessert recipe for fat free ricotta with raspberries and honey to make for easter. I didn't look at the ingredients until today. It calls for 8 low calorie low carb gourmet cookies. Has anyone bought these and if so do you have a brand you like? I want to get them while I am shopping today if possible. Thanks!

Thursday was the first day on my next phase of soft foods. For breakfast I had one scrambled egg. Snack of string cheese. For lunch (around 3) one tablespoon of canned chicken shredded with a touch of mayo. Dinner (around 6:30) one tablespoon of ground beef with gravy. I had 12 cups of liquids throughout the day. I did not have a BM all day-but I did each of the 3 prior days. I woke up Friday so uncomfortable. I felt constipated/stuffed. I had a fruit cup for breakfast on Friday. I know this was not protein but I thought the fiber would help me go. It did-2x and I started to feel better. I took some MOM too. For lunch I had peanut butter off the spoon. I pushed even mo…

Help! In January my insurance (Aetna) declined my pre-authorization for the surgery because I had gained a few pounds (on and off, 5 at the most) during the 6 month diet monitoring period. They told me I would have to start my 6 month diet monitoring over again and resubmit. My 3rd appt for the second 6 month monitoring period is coming up and I'm up in weight from last month. I have been sick and not able to stay on top of the dieting and exercising recently. I am feeling better now and have started with the diet and am joining a gym tomorrow, but I fear it might be too late. I started this process last June and I am losing hope that this will ever happen. Has anyone …

Hi! I had my RNY on March 24th. I spent two nights in the hospital and now im home and on minimal pain medication. I went on a walk around my neighborhood so I think I am healing nicely. I am starting to really want food. Not that I am hungry but I would love something with texture. Broth and jello only go so far. I look forward to my puréed diet starting next week. I am already down 11 lbs!!

To recap, had band out in October after loads of complications in 8 years and now RNY is scheduled for Monday at 7:30 am....Whoo Hoo! My surgeon only requires 3 day liquids prior so I started today....so far so good! I'm hungry but when I hear others saying they have to do weeks at a time on their liquid pre-op, I don't dare complain ???? I'm feeling pretty on my game as I pre-made 8 meals for my son today and froze them and got everything ready for myself when I come home....I've got the premier Protein shakes in the fridge, bottles of Isopure that everyone spoke about, unflavored Protein powder, all the bariatric Vitamins (Barimelt brand)..... a new Ninja high power…

I'm not one to promote products, really, but I see so many posts about folks not being able to get their surgeon's recommended daily Protein intake that I thought I'd toss a couple of options out there that are really helping me. I'm approaching 5 months post RNY, and still get the vast majority of my protein from whey isolate shakes. My surgeon doesn't necessarily have an issue with it, and I realize that at my point in this journey I should be getting more protein from food than shakes, but I simply can't tolerate meat of any kind, and the thought of eating an egg in any form makes me want to gag Anyhow, I've been searching for a break from the Premier Protein bandw…

I'm hoping someone here may have a clue since my doctor and I are stumped. I had gastric bypass surgery in 2012. For 8 years before that I'd been using a Nuva Ring to help regulate my periods. They had been heavy and irregular. It worked great. Then after my weight loss it stopped working. My periods became irregular and heavy again and it got to the point where I was having one every two weeks (with them sometimes lasting for two weeks at a time)! My doctor switched me to Seasonique. That was an epic failure. It was 10 times worse. My periods were so heavy and the cramping was so bad that it made me feel physically sick. And once it lasted for almost 3 weeks. So we swit…

I may soon begin facilitating a small group for bariatric patients. I am looking for suggestions and input as to what you are looking for in a small group. I have run and been a part of support groups in the past. One of the biggest problems is having 10 people in the group and getting through only 2 in terms of getting a turn to share what's on your mind. To resolve this I am proposing utilizing a 5 minute timer and going through the entire group. Then opening things up for discussion. I know it may seem callous but everyone should have a chance to share. That time to share can make a world of difference to a person. What is your opinion? Have any suggestions? Thanks …

I thought I'd move us over to this side where we can share stories, weight loss, concerns and just be generally supportive! So, I'm 4 days post-op and feeling really good. I was really sick post-op days 1&2 due to intestinal swelling and barium sitting in my pouch (relatively uncommon complication) but once I finally got rid the barium, things changed dramatically. Very little pain. I can lay flat on my side with a flat pillow supporting my stomach. Went for a 20 minute slow walk with my 6-year old today. No problem with protein shakes or broth. No nausea at all. I know many of our pre-oppers are nervous about life post-op so I wanted to encourage you! How's everyo…

I am so excited! I finally have everything scheduled that I need ringer approved for surgery. All appointments will be done by April 10th. It seems so far away from now. I have some questions though. I have a psych eval and I'm wondering if having depression and anxiety wood be a reason for the psych not to clear me. I have a therapist and I'm on medicine for it. I just want to know if I should lie about it so I can make sure I'm approved. Did anyone do fmla to get time off for surgery? If you did hoe difficult was the process? Right now I only have 40 hours of paid time off to use. Does this surgery qualify for fmla? Thanks for reading! I love the support we give each o…
