I am 11 weeks post op, and I know we have hair loss, but mine is falling out like crazy! I take 10,000 mcg of Biotin daily and all my other Vitamins. I try not to blow dry it or use the straightener. It is everywhere!!My surgeon says it's normal and will stop, but when?? I'm afraid I'll have nothing left. What are your experiences, any ideas on what I can do to help my hair.

No, I'm not having a heart attack. I went to my GP today for a checkup and all is well. Tonight after I ate I started to develope pain across my left shoulder. It's like an ache...not shooting. I'm 4 months out. I'm hydrated and get all my Protein and Vitamins in. All my bloodwork came back showing no deficiencies. My Iron is actually a little on the high side and I haven't taken any supplements. Has anyone else experienced this type of pain?

This maybe a really irrelevant question but did people wear makeup going to the hospital? My nurse said no dark nail polish, no creams/lotions or powders after taking the hibiclens shower the night before and morning of......forgot to ask if I can wear eyeliner? People must be thinking If this is all I have to worry about....lol

  8. "When are you going to stop losing weight?" I don't know, when are you going to stop asking? "You're getting too skinny!" If you're implying I have an eating disorder, I don't. I'm SO happy with my progress, being healthy and smaller feels amazing, but I'm getting frustrated with the constant questions and comments about how I look now. I understand that I've never been skinny therefore its almost foreign to others how I look now, but sometimes I cant handle it. Why is it easier to make these comments now that I'm thinner but NO ONE ever asked me if I planned to lose a few pounds when I was morbidly obese. I can see now why a lot of thin people can have so many bo…

  9. I am having my psych evaluation early next month. I have spent a year deciding this is the right direction for me, I am confident in my choice, I'm just not sure I can convice someone I don't know of that. I am not concerned about a test, if that is what is done, for me its more my ability to convey to the other person that I know what I'm talking about. I blame this on years of shielding myself from others due to being so heavy. Tell me, how did your psych eval go? I am so worried I'm somehow going to flunk out of it! I have done my research, Im thinking about taking in my printouts of what I have. Writing down my diet and exercise plans up until surgery, show what I…

I'm 6 days post-op and was wondering what people are taking for iron. I was told to take 20ml of liquid palafer and that seems like so much as 1 bottle will only last me 5 days.

  13. I am pre-op, probably going to have RNY. I have read a lot about how having WLS increases your risk of having gallstones and needing to remove the galbladder. I had my galbladder removed in 2004. Is there anyone here who already had their galbladder removed before they had WLS? Did it affect anything? I think I already have my own little version of dumping syndrome....I have diarrhea all the time. Maybe I have IBS? My tummy is upset by pretty much everything I eat, sometimes it's quite painful. I have noticed that if I suddenly go on a diet I have bright yellow bile diarrhea for a few days until my body gets used to making less bile. I guess this is something I will discu…

Obviously I cannot do it on my own that is why I am opting for surgery but the surgeons office does not seem very helpful in helping to lose weight before surgery just telling me i need to. I have actually gained 8 pounds since the consult.

  19. A recent study shows a linkage between deficiencies in Vitamin D and increased rheumatoid arthritis. The study group was small - only 97 patients. Overall the study found that: severely deficient patients had slightly longer (rheumatoid arthritis) disease duration (8.8 years versus 5.8 years), more hypertension (60.9 percent versus 49 percent), and osteoporosis (20.3 percent versus 8.7 percent). So for bariatric patients, get the exercise (and exposure to sunshine) and take the Vitamin D supplements to minimize rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension and osteoporosis. http://www.everydayhealth.com/news/link-between-vitamin-d-deficiency-ra/?ncid=txtlnkusaolp00000058

Won't get weighed again until March 26th when I go back for my 1 month appt. I eat very little and have notice some changes already. Thanks

I was banded in 2001. Like many others I started out doing great and lost right at 100 lbs. Then the honeymoon period was over and I started gaining weight. I was exercising regularly but I was noticing I could eat more then I should be able to eat. I would go for a fill and get restriction but it would only last for a few hours. Come to find out I have a leak in the band somewhere and my doctor wants to go in and repair the leak. I have decided to go another route and get a mini gastric bypass. I am tired of having to go and get fills since I live almost 2 hours from my doctor, I am tired of every time I fly I get pulled aside because they see the band in the scanner, I …

This is even if I drink slowly and don't overdo it (I think) Also, when do the dizzies get better? When does the hairy tongue go away? And what is best liquid diet thing to blend unflavored Protein powder in please? I tried cream of chicken Soup and it tasted horrible! Thanks in advance

He put .5 cc in today and talked about a revision. Just have a few questions for those who have been through a band to GBP revision. 1. How long were you in the hospital? 2. How long were you off work? 3. Do you feel the GBP is working better for you? 4. Any regrets? Thanks in advance for any advise and input!

I am still trying to decide which procedure to get. I have Diabetes so am leaning towards the Bypass since it has better resolution of Diabetes. But Bypass has a greater chance of complications then the Sleeve. Also I am worried that if my blood sugar goes low from my insulin injections that I can't take glucose tablets to correct for this. Any advice on which surgery is better for an insulin dependent diabetic?

My question is basically for those that have been through the liquid diet part of the RNY surgery. I was told that the liquid diet is basically Protein shakes. So I have picked up some Premier Protein drinks. I have both chocolate and strawberry & cream. I have to be on this 2 weeks before, and 2 weeks after my surgery. I was wondering about other liquids like V8 Splash Diet. Drinking plenty of Water has never been a real problem for me. So what would you suggest to break it up, so I am not drinking 4 shakes every day. I did buy a Ninja blender to make smoothies. I have been experimenting with that, and ESA Protein powder. Mainly Greek Yogurt based smoothies.

The Pre-Op diet is this something that everyone has to do, cause I seen the majority of the post say they had to do it, but I also seen a few said their surgeon didn't require the pre-op liquid diet? I don't mind doing it, cause I am sure it's very helpful to lose as much as possible. Also the surgeon at the seminar I went to their office require it, says losing the extra weight makes it easier to see the liver during surgery, any and all feed back is welcome... I'm exactly 4 months out today, I have lost around 60 lbs. i have had a few complications. Most recently I had a scope done , I think it was called an EGD, and they found I have an ulcer. I was having trouble keeping food down, I thought I was eating too fast. I'm a little frustrated. Plus I feel I haven't lost any weight for a few weeks. And I'm having some constipation problems.
