I'm 7 1/2 weeks post op and down 35 pounds and 13 1/2 inches. Unfortunately, I'm stuck at the 35 pounds. I'm proud I've lost that much and can't wait to lose more but I'm having a major problem. I can hardly walk and just about any form of exercise is out of the question. My knees have been bothering me for a few years now. I was told a few years ago it was mild arthritis and was given the cushioning gel injections. The injections helped a little but that's when my knees were only semi painful. When I moved, my new Dr. Told me I didn't have arthritis and if I just lost the weight, my knees would be fine. Two years later, my knees are screaming in pain, instead of going to…

Can anyone tell me if they had an NG tube in their nose to remove whatever bile or fluids would be dripping into the stomach? I was told I would get an NG tube for only 24 hours but this kind of freaked me out since I did not ever hear of anyone saying they had one? I also wanted to know if nausea is something you have daily? I understand it's the stomach and all the rerouting so it doesn't surprise me but does it go away and when? I couldn't imagine living with nausea everyday of my life any answers would be great!

Hey still waiting for a date for surgery , it have been a long process over a year and a 1/2 but am just feeling down about my weight and apart from the numerous medical problems that go with it , it really gets to me the way people judge FAT people I never really brought in to this belief before but it's true not everyone but the majority of 'normal' people out there literally hate us fat people and look down on us. Self confidence is at all time low atm ... Any positive stories or comments ???...???....

I don't know if this is old news or not but I found a new portable food that is perfect for us! It's a StarKist tuna packet that I buy at Walmart for $1 a piece and comes in a variety of flavors including hickory smoked, sweet and spicy, lemon pepper and my personal favorite - herb and garlic. They range from 16-19g of Protein and 90-110 calories a packet. They definitely cure hunger pains but won't fill you up to the brim. I love these as a mid-day snack straight out of the bag or accompanying something for lunch. I personally like the herb and garlic the best because it isn't dry and I don't feel the need to add anything to it, unlike the sweet and spicy which is pr…

I'm only 6 1/2 weeks post op and the scale isn't budging since I lost 35 pounds. I'm mildly concerned but highly frustrated. Any ideas on how to jump start weight loss again? I want to exercise so badly but I can't right now. Both of my knees are badly arthritic, my left knee is the worst. I can barely walk without insane pain and constantly feeling like both kneecaps are just floating around. I started using my T.E.N.S. Unit last night in the hopes that it will help. Only time will tell. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

A recent study found that women who had lost weight via bariatric surgery did not seem to suffer undue negative effects during pregnancy — and nor did their infants. Refer to: http://acsh.org/2015/02/bariatric-surgery-associated-improved-pregnancy-outcomes/

I am 10 days post op and I am still very bloated. This feeling won't go away. It is making it very difficult for me to get much liquid intake whether it be protein or just clear liquid. I have mostly just been sipping water. I am a diabetic and my blood glucose has been running very low because I can't get any carb intake which would normally come from the protein shakes. I feel full all the time. I am miserable. Anyone have any advice?

Hey guys, I am a foodie. Seriously me and food go way back. Now I have to develop a new relationship with it. Putting me on a liquid or puree diet is the same as a 5 year sentence in the House of Correction. LBVS. I took my diet suggestions very literally limiting myself to Jello, broth, cottage cheese, and other bland foods. Then I went on Pinterest and searched recipes for each diet stage. I found great stuff that opened so many possibilities!! I found a mock lasagna, chili dog recipe and even some great protein ideas! Just thought I would share! You can follow me @yachicaguy

I have never participated in a support group because my surgery was 12 years ago. In fact, the pre-op was simply him drawing what was supposed to be a stomach on a manila folder, circled a small portion and said "this will be the size of your stomach...are you ok with this?" I am here for anybody who has questions, etc....I've lived it and I'm a success story.

I am 11 days post RNY. I know that I am mildly dehydrated but I'm having difficulty with getting my fluids. I am craving salt, specifically pickles. I have put a slice in my mouth and just sucked the juice off and spit the pickle out. I know this probably isn't very good for my healing pouch, but I am seriously in need of salt.

Hey all. My name is Kiki. Im fairly new to this forum and have been mostly reading posts and gathering much needed information. I want to learn as much as i can about people who have had revison surgery, especially those with band to bypass. In 2007, i was in a terrible car accident and was bleeding internally. My spleen was hemorrhaging blood into my liver. They had to put a stint to stop the bleeding and it worked. In 2012, i made a decision to have WLS. After my first consultation with my Dr, i told him i was interested in gastric bypass and he thought that was the best choice for my weight at the time. I told him all my history and about the accident and he said he…

I've seen this subject somewhere else before but I can't find it, perhaps it was on another WLS site. I'm concerned about how much weight I should lose. My personal goal is 165 because of the BMI for someone 5'10". Is this too much? I still have 17 pounds to go but my bones are starting to show. When I told my physical therapist I had that much more to lose he asked me where I plan to lose it. I'm thinking about changing my personal goal because of this and my sister's statement to the same effect. I am to close to meeting two more goals to stop now. I have one more pound to meet my surgeons goal and I have one more pound after that to say I lost one hundred pounds, tha…

So long story short. I had been banded nov 2009, lost 60 pds and summer of 2010 got pregnant. Had son 2011, got my fills put back in. Well just a few months ago I started to throw up more and more. Went to new doctor and did the nasty chalk stuff, found out that I have a hiatal hernia and that my band is also tight. I'am having an endoscopy done on Thurs. and doctor said we will go from there. He is opting for bypass for me. So what is the time frame for those that have had by pass done.

Hey this is my first time posting on anything like this.. Just trying to find out as much as I can about this process to stop my mind wondering. Currently I have seen bariatric nurse and dietician. I had a sleep study in December and due to some miscommunication I missed the follow up appt which I now have on Wednesday. They have told me that I need to be under a cpap for at least 6 weeks before the anaesthesiologist will do anything. My dietician gave me the pre op diet and told me how much they want me to lose before surgery ; not to follow the pre op diet till they tell me to though. Have to go for an endoscopy and providing all is well I should be getting an …

Hi my name is Bobby, this is my first post and I guess it's because I'm a bit confused and need answers. I had gastric bypass surgery on Jan. 23, 2015 and my weight was 361. In the first 11 days I lost 27 lbs. After that I lost 10 more lbs. when I weighed in 11 days later. Since then (6 days) I've only managed to lose 1 lb. Totaling 38 lbs. I understand that is great to lose nearly 40 lbs. In a month but I guess I'm confused because so many people have spoke about losing a ton of weight in the first couple months and I'm eating very little. At the most a quarter cup of food 3 times a day and I'm so full. Is my body in starvation mode? I know 5 years ago I weighed 410 lbs.…

Hello, everyone! My name is Caroline, and I just got a RnY Gastric Bypass on 2/10. I have had a few annoyances after surgery, but none greater than a terrible, nagging, sharp pain in my left shoulder! In the hospital, one of my nurses told me it was probably gas from the surgery, and that I need to walk as much as I can to help it go away. Well I have walked several hours a day- a surprising feat considering I'm from New England and we have been covered with snow and single digit temps this past week. I have noticed that the shoulder pain goes away if I walk for an extended period of time, or if I lay absolutely still on my back. When I change positions, or…

Hello ppl. I'm 22. Soon to be 23. And I'll be having Roux En Y surgery next Tuesday on January 13, 2015. When I first was represented with the opportunity to have bariatric surgery, I was opposed to it. I felt like "oh plz I'm young, I have time. I'll be ok. I have room for mistakes." So then I gained and gained and gained. Didn't even bother checking on my health because i was embarassed because i didn't want my doctor to keep shaking get head at my Bill of health. By the time I joined the weight loss program at St. Vincent Hospital back in April of 2014, I was almost 600lbs. And in denial. But after talking to the team I'd see weekly, I started taking things more serio…

Hey guys, I'm nearly 1 month out now, and I've lost 26 pounds which I'm really over the moon with. I am really struggling with energy though, and am not exercising. I don't know if this is normal?! What exercise were you doing a month out? Is this a mental block on me with the energy, or should I be getting more calories in? I have 3 meals a day, a yogurt in morning, a Soup at lunch and something puréed at dinner, plus a Protein shake.

Hey! My surgery is Feb 25 and it's getting here faster and faster. This has been a 2 year journey for me, so I am excited and nervous. My question/advise is this: I have been at my job for 3 years now. I love my job it's in finance management. I have excelled and moved up pretty quickly and my boss has asked me to apply for a lend/internship within my department for the next 6 months. I would spend half of my week learning new things and possibly a promotion at the end of it. Well my surgery is kind of at the beginning of this whole new position and my boss knows I will be out of work for 2-3 weeks and is cool with it. The problem is that it will put more pressur…

I've finally decided to dive in and take this journey head on. I've literally just begun. I finally have insurance and plan to take advantage of it. I did not have a doctor, so I hunted one down who was accepting new patients and I meet him tomorrow. I'm a bit worried considering I've never been tested for comorbidities or any other health issues, so I am going to speak with him about testing for diabetes, possible thyroid issues, high blood pressure, etc. Considering my BMI is already above 40, my insurance wouldn't require any comorbidities, but it would still be nice to know... Anyway, It would be great to have some pointers, or to see some stories of how you …

OK, three months post-surgery and I am noticing i'm losing hair at a bit of a faster rate than normal. So far, it's not too bad, and I'm working on the exercise and Protein, eating Gelatin, and in general trying to support good hair growth. But I AM noticing lots of hair breakage. I mean, seriously - I may not be going bald from hair loss, but I'm going crazy with breakage. Any ideas on how to prevent breakage? If it helps, I use Pantene most of the time. Once or twice a month I'll use Neutrogena.

Warning - delicate female topic! Ok, I'm three months out and have these really stange pains. The closest thing I can compare them to are menstrual cramps although I haven't had a period in over 10 years. It cramps in my uterus area and sometimes radiates on down through my vaginal area. Sorry if TMI, just wondering if anyone else has had such sensations. They are not unbearable but bothersome!

Almost had a full blown panic attack when I got on the scale this morning. I've lost 120 lbs. I am 17 months post op and for the last few months my weight has been stable. I normally fluctuate from 162-164, which I think is mostly water weight. Two weeks ago I started doing crossfit and got on the scale today expecting to be on the lower end of my flux or even slightly lower. Instead I weighed in at 165.4. I know it's not much, but it's got my anxiety through the roof right now. My husband doesn't really get it and thinks I'm nuts about freaking out about a pound. Needed to get this off my chance to someone that can relate to the fear of gain. I'm just so confused by how …

With so many things going on in her life, she felt it was essential that she allow someone else to continue the program. Tasha has forwarded me the pen pal email list and I will be using that to send out emails.
