Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums

Gastric bypass (RNY) support. Ask about the procedure, dumping syndrome, the bypass diet, nutrition, weight loss, and complications.

  1. Sorry, not able to change the title from pre op to post op... I had gastric bypass surgery on January 8, 2015 I had my first post op appointment with my surgeon this afternoon. My Dr may be good but he has terrible bedside manner. He was asking questions that he should have already know the answers too and he waived off my concerns as if they were nothing. Asking questions on bariatric pal is so much easier and I get better answers. So, here goes... 1. I'm throwing up at least once a day after my meal. is that normal? 2. How am i supposed to track my Protein when I'm throwing it up? These were my big questions and he basically shrugged them off and said i'd be f…

Next month will be my last appointment before the doctor and I schedule my surgery. At this point I don't have fear of the surgical procedure, but I have fear of what I will look and be like after. I've always been the big guy, and I feel some fear of being smaller almost as if I don't deserve to lose the weight. Has anyone else had this type of aneixty? Or is it just a stupid irrational Fear I have?

I just created an account with this site, and mostly because I have just made two of the biggest changes in my life. I lived in Columbus Ga my entire life and on Feb. 18th 2014 I had Gastric Bypass. Everything was going great, until May 2014 my husband of almost 10 years and in the military and stationed in Fort Benning GA for 11 years received the orders that I dredded and knew would come. PCS orders. I was leaving the place I was born and raised and more importantly just had major surgery and was going to need the biggest support system for at least the first year. We moved, thank God, only 6 hours away to Fort Campbell KY in July 2014. I thankfully was able to continue…

  8. Hello everyone, I've heard that you will lose slower once you convert to RNY from the band. Mine was removed several months ago and I really don't want to lose too fast b/c I only have around 50 lbs to lose. How was it for those of you that had RNY later in two steps or even in one step. Was the weight loss slower? Thanks~

For the last 18 years I have been involved in a 12 step program. I have used food as my vice/substitution. Once I have surgery in a few months, what will I have left? That question keeps going on in my head. Hopefully, just maybe, I will become a exercise junky. Anyone else suffer from any addiction?

Hello everyone! I just wanted to pop in and introduce myself! If you care to know more about me or put a face to the name please go to my profile and click on "My Story" and "Gallery". I am excited (and terrified ) to be here. I hope we can help support each other on our journey towards greater health. I am a prayer so anytime you need some, let me know! As those who are super sized we have a certain set of challenges that we will experience, as we go through the process of weight loss surgery, regardless of which type we have. All together now, we CAN do this!

I know they say that constipation is something that goes along with gastric bypass surgery. I have to take three Colace capsules a day and also use Benefiber just to keep from getting too "stopped up". Does this ever go away? I had my surgery on 9/30/14. I still can't get in enough Protein plus add veggies to my diet. Mostly it's just protein right now.

  13. Hi, My surgery was on Jan.5 this year. I had to be convertered from sleeve to gastric because of complications with acid and hernia. I am most scared of stretching out my pouch by eating to much. So mostly have been doing liquids and Protein shakes. I need help in learning how many calories I need to consume at any given meal or day, how much food at one time, how is the best way to keep from stretching it out and not gaining weight back. I am doing between 400 and 500 calories a day according to my fitness pal. I really need someone to mentor me on the day to day adjustments and support. Thank you very much, Caryn

Has anyone else had this problem? I have my surgery booked for this Saturday. I'm worried about them not being able to get an IV in or something.

Over the next couple days my lips, tongue and inside mouth are itchy, tinglely and a little swollen. Has anyone else experienced this? I haven't eaten or done anything differently, or had any kind of changes in my meds. I'm wondering if it's a Vitamin B issue?

I am very interested in getting Gastric Bypass surgery but lately I have been slipping back into my bad habits again. I am a food addict. I have been having so many cravings and been binge eating and feeling horribly guilty about it. I lost 10 pounds last month but have gained 5 pounds back. I need to go to the gym and get my head back into the game. I just wanted to write this down here because I know many of you can relate.

Don't you want to slap someone when they say this regarding our WLS?? There is NOTHING easy about what we have done. Not only have we had our guts rearranged but eating, as we knew it for our entire life, has changed. We have made the ultimate sacrifice and will continue to do so for continued success. I have had people tell me this, and the others tell me they could never do what I have done because they are not ready to give up the old way of eating. We still have to count our calories, get exercise, make wise choices etc. I have a sister that I finally told about 7 months out. She has just lost 30 lbs, and commented to me that she "did it the old fashioned way". GRR…

I live at home with them and my son. We stay here to help out with my mom.... Anyway I'm really scared that her episodes might hinder my recovery. She yells and is violent, it's hard enough being here in regular conditions but adding WLS to it has me scared. I plan on having everything out and easily assessable but I'm just scared and nervous. I don't have many friends and the ones I do are not able to visit me or help me out. I'm used to dealing with things on my own I just wish I didn't have too. S…

I'm not really that fearful of the surgery itself. I'm worried about: The surgery not "working"--I don't feel full, eat through my pouch, don't lose enough weight The drinking only apart from food. I can't imagine eating without a sip of Water. Excited for: Being able to walk into a normal store and buy clothes off the rack Being able to walk without huffing and puffing

Just a quick note to all my fellow March surgery buddies. This year has gone by so quickly. It seems like just yesterday we were all consoling each other with first going thru the pre-surgical process, the never ending appointments, the waiting for approval, the pre-surgical liquid diets, protein shakes, pains, post-surgical food issues, ect...... We're mostly 9 months in and I for one have had such a great year. I feel awesome and have had no real complications to complain about. I've come to terms with food and my emotion, they are no longer dependent on each other which is a huge milestone. If I'm sad, happy, nervous or whatever I've learned how to work thru it, …

  39. I'm seriously considering RNY. I've now had a band that is 5 years old, unfilled and useless. My BMI is 55. I'm in a bad place. My husband is reluctant to see me go through the "diets", "life changes", "surgery" again. He saw me through the band surgery and two separate surgeries for total knee replacements, He doesn't want me to have WLS again because it completely disrupts his/our order of things. He also saw me eventually give up on the South Beach diet that my surgeon puts his patient's on. Does he have a point as far as my food addiction goes? Hi all, On tuesday I'll be 5 weeks post op. I was doing really great and lost about 17 pounds from my surgery on 12/16 till New Years. Since the 1st, I have gained two pounds. I'm still not eating that much, and I'm walking around, taking my Vitamins, and trying to drink as much Water as I can. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Could I be eating too little? Any suggestions to help me get out from this stall will be appreciated. I'm feeling pretty unmotivated - this was such a big decision to do this surgery, and I'm worried that I made a mistake by choosing to do it.

  47. Started by SnowDaisy,

If I get my bypass it will be done as an "open" operation. This will not be up for debate because my surgeon prefers this method saying it is safer. According to his credentials, he can do laparoscopic but insists on open......(sigh!) So can I ask you guys if any of you have had "open", why it was done and how much it hurt? I wonder if this one long cut is going to be more painful than several little ones. Xxx
