If anyone needs a bariatric surgeon in Jacksonville, please give Dr. Sharma a chance. He took over the old office of Dr. Cywes. The number is the same, 904-399-4004. Dr. Sharma really listens to you has awesome bedside manners. FYI, Jody is there too!!

I am 5 weeks post-op. I have been in the soft foods phase for a week now. I am curious as to why I can't have rice or pasta?? The only starch I can have is potatoes and I'm not much of a potato eater. Does anyone know why rice and pasta are prohibited??

I am having one of those days that my mind and body is a mess. I met with my nut last week who said that I should be eating more. I was at 700 a day (2 months out) she said I have to eat 1200 now. I do get all my Protein and Water in. I had a big stall 4 weeks out for 3 weeks and since then I have only lost 4 pounds. The last few days though, I've been putting on nearly a pound a day and I'm absolutely stressing out. I feel all bloated and just want to cry I don't know if this is normal - it seems unnatural to put on weight, but I'm also thinking how will I lose weight on 1200 calories a day!?

Today I pooped on my own without the need of milk of magnesia for the first time in 8 days. I was at the store and was wondering what that feeling was I was in my bowels. I know I've had that feeling before but had to reach back into my memory bank to figure out what it was. My surgery was 3/16/15, and I was wondering if I was ever going to poop on my own again! For those of you who have been pooping on your own since surgery you don't have any idea what a milestone this is. For those of you who have not pooped yet on own, your day will come!!!! I promise!

So just went in on Monday for the results of my band issue and submitted my revision to Gastric and just found out that it got approved. So next step is I go in on Monday and we set surgery date. Im so excited

I've been pretty quietly going through the motions toward getting approved for my RNY. My insurance approved, my PCP approved, and my surgeon has gone ahead and scheduled me for April 6th. So far, only my parents, boyfriend and about 4 of my friends know what I've been up to. I'm feeling a little bit apprehensive about letting too many people know what I'm doing. For one, I'm afraid of being judged. People seem to have this misconception that WLS is the "easy way" to lose weight (I used to be one of them). I'm also afraid that people will try to talk me out of it. Whenever I talk about everything with my mom she says "Well if you're still sure this is what you wann…

I Messed Up. I felt crappy this morning and decided NOT to go to work. I did take my girlfriend to work and while driving I became hungry. I had a craving for hashbrowns, Del Taco hashbrowns. I went thru the drive thru and picked them up. Huge mistake, giant mistake. I ate three on the drive home and then it hit, that nauseous feeling. I barely made it off the freeway before I tossed my Cookies. What in god's name possessed me to buy them, was it force of habit or sheer stupidity, maybe even both? I should never have bought them in the first place. I keep getting these cravings for something in particular and then kick myself in the but when I get sick shortly afterwar…

Hi there, I had my surgery (Roux en Y gastric bypass) on October 29, 2014 with Dr. George Fielding in NYC at NYU Tisch. I had a bunch of pre-op medical issues that made me decide to get my lap band removed (5 years and no results) and converted to a gastric bypass. I am having a very hard time post-op with things such as: - taking supplements - dumping syndrome - following nutrition guidelines - severe GI symptoms (nausea, pain, spasms, etc.) - extreme fatigue and difficulty functioning I have seen my surgeon several times post op as well as the bariatric nutritionist they have on board. They've given some guidance but not addressed all the issues adequa…

Hi! I had my RNY on 9/22. HW: 268, CW: 208 Goal Weight: 165 5'10 Just wondering how your weight loss journey is going. I don't remember how much weight I lost before surgery, but I think I've lost 55 pounds since surgery. I've had a few stalls that lasted a month, lost some more, stalled some more. To be honest I wasn't sticking to the rules. Now that I am tracking, measuring, exercising, I'm losing again. I'd love to hear how you are all doing.

Backstory: I was first banded in 2007, then had to have it replaced in 2011 with a different surgeon because of a massive slip. I didn't qualify for conversion to another type of surgery at that point, but since I've gained more weight since then, I'm trying to convert to RNY now. I've moved across the country, though, so I can't use the surgeon I used for the replacement band. The first surgeon I checked out down here, I liked personally, but didn't like the "surgery mill" feel that his office had, and that he wanted me to do all the work of referring myself to other specialists and making appointments (radiologist for an upper GI series, nutritionist, etc.). Th…

Hello, I am 6 weeks out and have lost 52 pounds (that includes weightloss from preoperative diet too). My problem is after eating 3 or 4 bites of protein, I have an overwhelming feeling of fullness. I can't even attempt to eat the vegetables as I'm supposed to. My protein level was 13 and should be at least 17. I drink 2 protein shakes a day 30gm each. Not sure what else to do.

I am 5 days post op and once I finally had a BM (after pain medconstipation), since then all BM's have been very runny and smell horrific. Is this due to liquid diet and maybe internal surgery clean out? Is this normal? I don't see this addressed anywhere. Sorry for the topic, but I would like to know.

My surgery is 5 days away and I am very excited but also nervous. I feel like I have so much info from the initial classes, meetings, appointments, and pre-op counseling. I have been trying to re-read all my literature (it's a huge folder of papers now) but I honestly feel like I am going to forget something or do something wrong. I have tried to buy everything I will need after surgery...products, meds, and foods. I have been making my list of what to pack for the hospital but even not totally sure with all of that!

I'm not sure if I'm posting to the right area, but I'm new to the community. I had my bypass surgery in January of 2014 and have had great results so far. I sure wish I would've found a support group before now because I've had a million questions that I would have loved to have answered over the last year. I'm looking forward to the rest of this amazing journey and to having some support along the way now

As a result of my RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery, I have been taking large amounts of Citrical Calcium supplements. So this requirement might be worth discussion and review. The following article looks at the effect of Calcium Supplements and the increased risks of heart attacks. http://acsh.org/2015/03/should-postmenopausal-women-take-calcium-supplements/

I am wondering if anyone else has had complications with stricture and then any sort of tear? It was at the bottom of my esophagus. I had just had a stricture procedure and had a 2 hour drive. I ate a very small amount of KFC mashed potatoes. I was 8 weeks post-op at the time. When I get the stricture I also get run down so I had a cough. A half hour from home I stopped for cough drops and when I got out of the car I got a huge pain and it moved from the right side up my shoulder and then to my left shoulder. I thought I was gonna die. I got home and laid down drank the white cocktail they gave me. Started to feel a little better so I went to vote and came home and took a…

So after being so disappointed with my insurance company denying my revision surgery, i got some much needed support from my advocate. She reassured me that we would find a way to get it approved. She also had me write a plea letter and has sent out all the information needed for appeal. I am praying that the decision is overturned and that ill be having surgery soon. The pain from this band is sometimes more than i can take and i struggle with it everyday. For now, i will try to continue to look on the bright side and know that this fight is not over yet!

I had the lapband 5 years ago it slipped at some point had surgery to fix it, about 6 months ago I had surgery to remove it. My surgeon didn't do revisions in one surgery she liked to allow your insides to heal... I've ballooned back to my starting weight. I am looking into doing gastric bypass but so very scared of complications that could arise I know surgery is always a risk but already having 3 surgeries due to the Crapband, I am worried about all the scar tissue or issues that could arise... I have an almost 2 year old that I need to be here for =( please tell me someone else has had multiple surgeries and came out fine and still is fine!

Well I gave up on the group page. I could not figure it out. You could not access if from the phone app. It just wasn't working out for me or the other 27 people who were members. So I am starting this thread. I know there is already an April 2014 post op thread but it's a variety of people. While I totally support everyone having any kind of WLS, our experiences are not the same. Bariatric Pal has 3 sections for that very reason. I'm a perfect example. When I started on this board I used the Sleeve boards because I had every intention of having that procedure. When it changed, I jumped over here to the Bypass surgery forums. So I just wanted to make sure ou…

I can't believe after almost 9 months since that first initial meeting....all this time spent in doctor's offices, money spent on co-pays and saving up for this surgery, arranging time off work for my husband and myself, arranging the kids care plus rides to school for them once my husband goes back to work, packing and cleaning the house hard core to preparation and the DAY IS FINALLY HERE! I am doing really well on the liver shrink diet and I am down 10 lbs. in the 9 days so far....today is the Clear liquids only I am not worried about handling it but I do have bad stomach pains that the only thing that will cure it is drinking milk. Luckily I have only had to drink m…

Is this normal? My surgery is Monday. The last week I am sad and crying over everything. I'm going through a divorce too so that doesn't help. The ONLY 2 people that know are my ex-husband and boyfriend of 2 years. I'm now regretting telling them. I don't want anyone to go with me to the hospital. I want to just go and be alone. I'm hoping I am just having pre-op jitters or something. Anyone else experience this?

I'm becoming very frustrated and wondering if I have some kind of metabolic issue. I'm 5 1/2 weeks Post op and I find that on days that I don't exercise I gain 1 pound. I am following all of my nutritionist's guidelines (and what I've learned on here). I am aiming for 60 grams of Protein per day and only eat carbs that come in my low fat, no sugar added greek yogurt (I eat Dannon light and fit which only has 80 calories per day). I eat three small meals and stick to around 300-500 calories per day. I am losing, I try to exercise daily for an hour, but in reality it generally ends up being 3 days a week. I know that I need to be better about that. However, I weigh 274 and…

I understand that there are a lot of changes that come with bypass surgery, but one thing I've been wondering about is: does your GI system feel different? Now that everything has been rerouted, do you physically feel differently as the food is moving through your body? I know my body pretty well and how food moves through it. I just wonder if anyone was surprised by overall changes in their digestive system now that the stomach has been detached.

I am about 16 days post op and I been having a couple weird reactions. First my belly has been itching all over. Pretty much since right after I came home. I noticed that I'm starting to break out on my belly. Second when I take my first drink of water or whatever I get this pain and discomfort in my upper abdomen. It usually lasts about a minute. As long as I keep drinking it kind of subsides. If I wait a while in between drinks if occurs all over again. I don't understand why this is happening?? I haven't had my first post op doctors appointment yet. It's on Friday so in the meantime I was wondering if anyone has experienced any of these symptoms?

I am 17 days post op and have not be able to enjoy my new life. I have had dizziness and bed spins for 2 weeks, nausea and vomiting any time I try to eat anything other than liquid or very mashed foods. Massive headaches too. My doctors say the dizziness should go away soon since I came off htn meds however it's been two weeks. The flat spins are almost unmanageable. I am also have increased pain on my left side where they did most of the manipulation for my surgery. There were several instances in the hospital where I had extreme pain when I rolled on my left side and they think I might have pulled apart a couple of my internal sutures on my muscle. Anyone else…
