Why can't I eat rice?

I am 5 weeks post-op. I have been in the soft foods phase for a week now. I am curious as to why I can't have rice or pasta?? The only starch I can have is potatoes and I'm not much of a potato eater. Does anyone know why rice and pasta are prohibited??

Thanks! Yeah I think I'll skip the rice and pasta for now. I don't want to get sick.
